Crys, take this from a woman in her 60's who had healthy hair but in early 30's started experiencing a spot in the same area and I thought it was due to hairstyling damage. It never grew back and had gotten bigger at times then grew in slightly with me thinking there was hope. Take this advice, they always say to see a dermatologist as soon as you notice a spot so they can assess it. Please do yourself a favor and find a Black Female dermatologist and have her give you a diagnosis. I tried at times to use certain oils and everything and some of those would actually cause shedding in the area when I combed it to check out the new growth, with me having my hope broken and then trying new techniques. I hope dearly it will grow back for you because your hair is beautiful but PLEASE SEE A DERMATOLOGIST ASAP.

Your going natural story hit home for me. I was told the same...my hair was too nappy, it's not the right texture, you're going to be ugly, your hair is too dry and not shiny. Almost 3 years later I look at my self in the mirror and think, I'm so pretty with this hair. I NEVER thought that with relaxed hair!!!!! It makes me tear up too 😊

I have been natural for three years now, and I feel the same as you. It’s a dream come true. Now that I am finally natural after wanting to do this my entire life, I could care less what other people think. My mom is still learning to love her hair and she mentioned that she doesn’t like the look of fros/twist out/etc. I’ve had friends say these things about their hair while I’m wearing the same style. I don’t get bothered by their opinions. I love the way my hair looks, and nothing can stop that feeling. At the same time, I do understand where those people are coming from with learning to love their hair.

I agree with you sis. Texturism is toxic and debilitating! I’ve seen several women here on UA-cam with tightly coiled kinky hair. They’re rocking it and it’s beautiful. No one discriminates against someone for the size of their feet or the length of their nails so why make an issue regarding our hair type. Coils are beautiful tool!!! We’ve got to continue to love ourselves and our coils or curls regardless of the shape or texture. I love you sis. Please keep us posted on that bald spot. 🤗👍🏽❤️

To add on to what Crystal said about keeping her hair hydrated: the reason why she and other people who have straight hair don’t feel the need to rehydrate or remoisturize is because of the sebum that is naturally secreted by our scalp. Everyone’s scalp secretes sebum (an oily substance) regardless of hair texture or curl pattern. When the hair is in a straight state the sebum is able to travel freely to the lengths of the hair leaving it naturally lubricated and moisturized whereas curly hair has more twists and turns that make it hard for the sebum to travel, thus needing additional moisture on the hair strands. This is also the reason why people with straight hair get greasy hair, the oil is being produced and traveling down the strand and over saturating it with the oils causing it to be weighed down.

its so refreshing to hear someone with low porosity hair themselves speak on how backwards the loc method seems😂 i have high porosity hair and its never made sense for me or my hair, but usually those with a lower porosity seem to swear by it.
there actually are some oils that are considered to have “moisturizing” properties (olive oil for example) so the only theory i have behind the LOC method is maybe for someone with a nearly closed hair cuticle would use the oil (which has possibly smaller molecules) before a cream or leave-in (maybe having slightly bigger molecules) to help open up the cuticle beforehand to make it easier for the cream to absorb.
im no scientist or hair specialist so idk how true that is😂😂 but it makes a little bit of sense in my head

I feel the same way. A lot of content creators are stepping away and pursuing other niches because these hair care brands (especially BLACK brands) aren’t respecting the huge influence creators have on their businesses. Let’s bfr, if it weren’t for content creators, these companies wouldn’t be where they are today (financially/marketing). 👀

I’m a straightening natural as well. I also love rocking curls ( wash & go, twist out, crown braids, flat twist)
I didn’t understand why so many women started relaxing again because 15 years ago I use to get relaxers my hair was I guess considered healthy relaxed ( I only got them 3-4 times a year tho)
But now if I want my hair straight, silk press it is..
and my curl pattern comes back to life every time. I totally respect other people decisions / journey in relation to hair care. I just wish some women who are on the fence about relaxers who find different stylist for the look they want to achieve as a natural. I literally have 3 stylist in Houston ( silk press , braider, twist outs stylist) like all could do all the stylist but I love to go to people who also specialize in certain looks as well. Each stylist always say my hair so healthy, thick and long.
I just love the how flexible my hair is .. when I explain my experience people always say “ it’s your hair texture” which always this. I disagree because it depends on the time we spend on our hair care.

    • @shanikacorb
      @shanikacorb Рік тому +1

@@AT-zl6dk exactly. Genetics and texture only get us to a certain point. After that, it's up to us to maintain and treat with love care and attention. When we do that we will have long lasting health and versatility. I love the idea of having multiple stylists for the various looks. It's very smart. And you know your always getting the best results.

I had heat damage and I let it grow out instead of cutting all my hair off and then trimmed it as it grew out and did styles to cover the heat damage up like flexi rods , Bantu knots and using perm rods on my ends when I did my twist outs 32:40

It for sure can feel disheartening when we endure setbacks with our hair. Trying my hand at those boho goddess braids/twists left me with some deep breakage at my crown (it was 100 percent my fault with the takedown), but I've been nursing that area and it's growing in lovely 😍
The natural hair community has definitely taken a turn with confining people to certain lanes. I don't watch nearly as much hair content except for mainly style inspo these days when my hair is super dirty and I'm too lazy to wash it 😅😅😅
And yes I adore your lifestyle content❤ can't wait to see how you and Raven Elyse collaborate #manifesting ❤❤

I appreciate you so much for stepping outside of hair content because honestly, I was getting tired of seeing the same hair videos every week. There’s only a handful of styles you can do on natural hair and it was becoming repetitive and boring.
When you changed your content to more lifestyle content, you did it at the perfect time because it allowed other creators to do the same but also I love watching your evolution into the women you want to become. Like you mentioned, creating more lifestyle content allowed you to still be you in the everyday things you love but also allowed you to step into other niches and partner with companies outside of hair (skincare, body care, fashion, home decor, etc).
I enjoy watching the growth and evolution of Crystal. Keep going sis, I’m enjoying the ride. Love you 😘👏🏾🫶🏾🙏🏾💜🤗💯

I recently started watching you and it's because of things I related to. I've struggled with my skin and those are the vlogs that caught my attention. I've even implemented some of your favorites and I see a difference. I got teary listening to you talk about when you started and the naysayers. I had so many of those in my life and the addition of low self-esteem didn't help. I'm so much better now and I've learned to just believe in myself and go for it regardless of others opinions, including family. It makes me proud to hear you speak of pushing through!
Also I remember when I went natural in 2007 or 8, can't remember, my Aunt said to me at a dinner for Thanksgiving, I have two words for you "Dark and Lovely " I wish back then I had the nerve to respond to her, RIP Aunt Dot. Now if I'm blessed to be a Mom ill teach my children the beauty of their natural hair and let them make the choice.

Try a Burgandy rinse before making the permanent change... I am with you on the LCO / currently being pushed on the community as LOC.. For all of us old school patrons of the salon can attest that the stylist 99% of the time sprayed our hair with oil sheen after the service (hence sealing in moisture) and finalizing the service with hairspray.

I look at being natural as being versatile because we have the beautiful option of wearing it in our curly/coily state or straighten it out. I hate having the distinction of natural hair and straight natural because it is all natural as long as there is no chemical's in it. Being natural means you can do so many things to your hair. We as a community put ourselves in a box by saying what we are specially. Being natural you can where your hair in so many different styles. Even if you do a twist outs, braid outs, braids, anything. It all depends on how you style your hair. You can do different style's with twist outs. You can do different styles with braids. You can do different styles with straight hair. Ppl say wearing your hair in its natural state is repetitive. Having straight hair can be repetitive also. It all depends on your vision of how you want to style your hair. That's the real beauty of our natural hair. We have sooooooo many style options to wear our hair straight or curly/coily. We are blessed to have our type of hair because we can wear it curly/coily whenever we desire. That is our strength. That is our beauty. It's the health of the hair that is our enemy. We have to make sure that we are properly taking care of not only the hair shaft but also the scalp. You can have a good hair day or a bad hair day in it's straight state or in it's curly/coily state. Hair does what it want to do no matter what type of hair you have. Everyone and I mean EVERYONE has to do something to their hair to make it look it's best. Even the straightest hair. Everyone use some type of hair products. I mean EVERYONE in order to make your hair look good. We have to stop allowing ppl to put us in a box and learn to understand and love our hair. I see so many blk women with long hair. Actual long hair not extensions than ever because they are properly taking care of their hair. That is it. That is all in a nut shell. Our community need to learn how to love themselves in their natural state. Ppl will talk about you even if you have everything that they feel is ideal, but they will still find something bad to talk about you. We have to start with self love. We have to realize that we are beautiful. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Living for other ppl will keep you stressed out and that will eventually make you sick and silently unalive you. It's deep. Love you CurllieCrys 💗

So for me, I Wash, Deep Condition every 2 weeks. Use scalp conditioner, hair pomade and just keep my hair braided or twisted with DevaCurl or Shea Moisture Products!!! I use black magic hair food on my teen daughter’s scalp. Her scalp get extra dry , and to maintain a healthy scalp some of us need hair grease! Yes, I said it! I still use the leave in conditioner, but greasing het scalp is a priority every 2-3 days. There is no build up too, a light coat of oil on her hair . Her hair is should length and it’s been natural for the past 9 years (she is 19). A few times a year she will get a silk press also. I taught her how to maintain her curly coily hair & protect it when she goes to bed. Everyone’s journey & product needs are different, find your niche! 😊❤️

I stopped putting myself in a box as well. I just do whatever I want in the most healthiest way. People are super scared of heat because of previous heat damage but most people get heat damage because of improper practices or pressing it over and over after the initial style. Once you learn how to press your hair or get someone who is knowledgeable to do it for you, you don't have to be scared of heat anymore.

Can you recommend a safe for your hair dye. Isn’t coloring bad for your hair? BTW you have taught me so much about natural hair!! What do you think about It’s a 10 products?

Girl, you should probably go to a dermatologist/trichologist to get an assessment and to see if treatments (shots) directly into your scalp will treat and rectify your bald spot.

😮Girl that's what I thought about gel... But I did not have a leave in for my wash and go this week, or even a Rinse out conditioner that would work well with the gel I wanted to use, and I want to try a gels for my wash and go's, so I said 😅we just gonna do a ONLY GEL wash and go....... And GGirrlll I was shocked I used the (long aid curl activator gel) and she was giving what she needed to give, she was bouncy she was soft she was fluffy she was defined there was volume, and as of today I am currently on day three of this wash and go and apparently this was the type of product you use on its own And it really was amazing.
So yeah I would love to see you try it out in a video and it is more of a soft hold gel, but the only thing is that gets a little tacky after it dries but if you just put some oil on your hair it'll help counteract that.

I like the look of locs, but I don't think I'd ever do it either. It just seems so limiting as a style.

I stopped going to those African braiding salons a long time ago! They are brutal with how rough they are and uncaring when they braid our hair! My scalp used to be on fire and bumps popping out of my scalp and forehead! Plus they would price gouge, tell you one price for a style and the day you showed up for appointments, would add $30-$40. Those brutal braids will pull your hair out, especially the edges and crown!

Sis I have a question? I'm Blessed to be 60+😉, I don't have thick hair, but my hair isn't exactly thin , I have a lot of hair it's just fine, and it eats moisture like water, do you think I should try this brand?

A recommendation is you can create a separate channel for vlogs, beauty only. And live this channel for hair videos generally. 😊😊

I think too its the fact that EVERYONE wants to be a lifestyle influencer. I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong at all , it just seems like everyone wants us to walk around with them & watch whats going on with their day. Its nice to watch sometimes but repetitive, especially when its certain luxury item hauls and the economy right now isn’t allowing everyone to do so.
