Why can't it be the starting point? As a Democrat I don't buy what he's selling. I'm sorry, there is no excuse not to pass the border bill as presented. It's a starting point. Something is better than nothing. Seriously. Eat the piece of cake and stop being a whiner about not getting to eat the whole thing. Really disappointed in Mr. Padilla. Numbers may be down at the border, but that's not an excuse not to do a single thing to improve the situation. Very disappointed.

It was considered bipartisan because members of the GOP sent demands that were added to it. They still voted no because Trump wants it as a campaign issue.

Border crossings hit a record high (at the time) in 2019 under Donald Trump. It gets worse every year. Republicans are uninterested in fixing this issue because then they would have nothing to complain about.

Because the vast majority of the GOP in office is still beholden to Trump. He's said repeatedly now that he didn't want them to vote for it because he wanted it to campaign on. If it goes through he has nothing.

The late senator Ted Kennedy, drafted many of these bills, and he told the American people that if his immigration bill was enacted into law, we would no longer need amnesty in our immigration problem would be solved.
