Hey Jirard! Are any long taking games in the completion process? If not may I recommend Hitman 3 with the content of Hitman 2, and 2016 taken into it? It would take long, be partially frustrating with challenges like the „king of the castle“ challenge on the isle of sgail, but be also a ton of fun with the highest replayability I‘ve seen in a game. Just a game to considerate, when wanting to complete another giant of the stealth genre.
@SuperGoldstar127 different team; the devs for the games I mentioned and X3 was Minakuchi Engineering, while II was made by Japan System House (now known as Biox).
The X series was created to bring completion to the average player, and I still get uncomfortable trying to figure out how to deal with X3. I also don't understand why no one has hacked X3 just to be more like X4, where you can trade the optional parts back and forth. Just being able to collect each item makes it leagues better.
Isn't that what the Zero Project is? It's been a while since I looked at it but, it does A LOT in terms of making Zero playable. Really, it's the only way to play X3 IMO if you're gonna play it.

Mega man X3 might be one of the most perfectly fine game I’ve ever played. It’s level design? It’s fine not amazing not bad it works some parts are pretty well designed others are annoying so it’s just sort of fine. The character designs? A few stand out but most are just fine. The story? Well it’s fine it works it’s told well enough. The new ideas like zero, the ride armors, and the chips? Well they are cool additions but they weren’t executed all that great so they are just fine. Not saying the games bad I do enjoy it but its just kind of fine.
I remember renting X3 after coming from owning X and I was freaking blown away especially when you could play as Zero. Him and his theme song was so fucking badass
X3 is favorite X game, back in the day being in a small town in Ohio it was actually impossible to find, and was always rented out at our one video store.
This game is my enemy. Bad design with needing particular items to progress with the new armor and ride on armor mechanics which totally ruined rewarding players going out their way, defying death, and thinking outside the box to reach them. Sigma’s palace is also a long play through and you have to sit down the entire play time just to beat it. You cannot save it after beating a palace and must start from the beginning if you turn your console off. Who has time for that in this day and age
I, too, missed out on X3 initially, it became something of a legend amongst my friends back in early high school, since none of us had even seen a copy of the game. We'd all rented X2 from the local video store, and most of us owned copies of X4, but none of us ever found X3. Imagine our surprise when emulation became more commonplace, and we finally got to try out this nigh-mythical game only to discover it kinda sucked...
X3 I think suffered with in my opinion levels ranging from way to long to way to bland. The weapons are fun though and so are the boss fights. The microchips are dumb and so are some of the upgrades but this game is still very solid.
The levels are fine, but the enemy placements and how they work are deliberately meant to slow the player down for sure, and the damage output they give is classic Minakuchi Engineering bullshit.
I agree with the level design.. There are sections for ride armor use that should have been longer.. Makimg the collecting and usefullness of them more rewarding. The charged shot should have had more implementations to make it go off while jumping more satisfying.. A lot of enemies are staged tanks and dont feel satisfying to beat if they reapear with just a few steps to the left.. There is no reward in taking so long to beat something if it reapears in an instance.. Pacing is another problem it suffers with.. The special weapons should let you cruise through levels at a steady pace but unfortunately only the triad thunder (sanda) lets you do so.. The spining blade is ok but is no storm tornado or bubble splash.. Zero should have been able to collect the power ups exept the capsules of course but i personally feel he should have been able to fight bosses and get unique dialog from it like bit and bite.. Any who the chip system really needs work as well.. Overall i really love this game the same way i love X6.. I like bad games because they make me think how to have the better most benefiting outcome through my actions..

Just feel like shooting this comment out into the void. X3 was and still is my favorite of the snes games. I will say it was the first MMX game I played and my mind was blown as a kid getting the upgrades and stuff after being used to the regular mega man games on nes. Besides that nostalgia that I get from this game I think there are other reasons that make this game so good. Of course being able to play as Zero is awesome! Even if it does have that dumb death mechanic. Playing as him in the opening level was awesome! Bit and Byte were badasses! The return of Vile. The completely underrated music. The best looking of the first three x armors. The gold armor! Air dashing and even two air dashes with the gold armor or enhancement chip. The different ride armors. I personally liked the bosses and enjoyed the variety of the levels. Overall I can understand a little bit as to why this one gets a bit of a bad rap but to me it’s the best of the first 3 x games. Feels like it just has a little bit more than the first 2. Anyway this post most likely will never be seen but feels good telling the void how badass x3!
I actually just finished a replay in Legacy Collection; I never realized just how open ended it is with different powerup and ending options. Also be sure to play the Zero Project romhack, which makes Zero fully playable and upgrade-able, as well as other features and improvements.
Seems like most people don't like X3 but it's one of my favorites. I like the little touches like being able to kill bosses for alternative castle fights, the z saber, and having Zero available to blast through a section of a stage.
I wouldn’t say “most” people, I’m sure some people don’t approve of the new changes made but everything that made the first two games awesome is still here and accounted for
Did you even mention the unlockable Ride Armors? ...because I don't blame you at all. That's such a cool concept with a lot of potential that just goes NOWHERE. It feels more like a complication to completing rather than a cool upgrade. Getting a flying ride armor isn't like "oh my god i can fly and fuck shit up", it's "ok i gotta remember to click the 'flying ride armor' button on the designated ride armor panel when it's time to get [power up that requires flying]". This game just put in a lot of extra _stuff_ but it doesn't feel like there's a lot of extra _impact._
This guy sums up how I feel about this game exactly. It’s a good game that I’ve enjoyed that’s worth playing at least once, but it came with disappointments compared to the first two X games. Also, the music overall was slightly underwhelming. Still a fun game though!
Highly reccomend the Zero Project mod for Mega Man X3. Let's you play as Zero or X whenever you want, even letting Zero gain armor parts and heart tanks, making X and Zero equals. Makes the game an 11/10
one thing i can really appreciate about these reviews is the consistency of the scores and the feedback. By the end of the video, you already know what Jirard's rating will be. That takes some quality script writing and delivery.
this video is so smart and witty, from the title to the actual cutaways, some which shadow the actual game problems and turn them into a joke. Love it!
Yeah, this game have some odd game design choices. I have the SNES version and back in the day I got it like for 30€ from the used game bin at the local appliance store.
"These games aren't known for their story." EXCUSE YOU? SO YOU'RE JUST GONNA DO GREEN BIKER DUDE DIRTY LIKE THAT? Imagine snubbing the best character in the series of his storied background. Ride on, GBD! Ride on!
For me, X3 was the least enjoyable of the SNES trilogy because of the music (the instrumentation compared to X and X2 sounded very off, like badly pitched versions of the samples, and the melodies themselves were boring and generic) and relatively uninspired level design. It was further compounded the moment I first saw the TAS playthrough of all three SNES MMX games simultaneously with the same controller inputs.
Can confirm. I already liked X8 before but after playing X7 for the first time and then following it up with X8 it's definitely a good breath of fresh air. Even if some of the stages are still a bit bullshit
8 was a new beginning. Lumine was a worthy successor to Sigma, and I would love to see a follow up. 8 was a massive improvement over 7, and even 6 and 5. A few new ideas were introduced, and I like being able to select or turn off the navigators. Alas, we’ll probably never get X-9
I must've missed some drama ... who was the dufus? that wasn't the guy who forced New Game Plus to be a thing, is it? I don't remember him looking like a caveman, but also, I only found the Completionist about 2 weeks before that shit hit the fan
I never saw getting the Z-Saber as part of completion because it forced you into a worse ending than keeping Zero around. Yes, it's a minor change in the ending dialogue and you don't see both X and Zero running through the credits at the end, but to me, that felt way more important than bait like a "bonus weapon" as much as the Z-Buster was a bonus weapon in X1.
I recently got the X Legacy Collection, and I’m currently on X3. I COMPLETELY agree with everything you’re saying here, but I’m surprised you never mentioned how ARTIFICIALLY BRUTAL the difficulty is with what an OBSCENE amount of damage the enemies and projectiles deal! Like why does touching ONE enemy take away OVER HALF of X’s default health?!
That title is brilliant. I saw it before I was able to get around to watching it and thought, "Oh, that's cool. He must really have enjoyed it". Then as I was getting ready to watch it I remembered how Zero was implemented.
I looooved x 1 and 2.....3 just never vibed with me. They stages felt empty, like this game was just never planned out as well as the others. I'm so glad you made this vid🙌
Awesome video. Worth mentioning though that there is a romhack of X3 that allows for zero to be playable at all times with bosses rebalanced to compensate and some minor story tweaks. Well worth playing the once
Funny thing about this game is. Whenever I played it. I used the hack where Zero doesn't perma-die. Though, it lowers his health to something closer to X's. It also let him use the boss weapons X got. It actually made the game a lot more tolerable difficulty-wise. Since you could actually use the two in tandem. It was like having two healthbars (in these levels where enemies hit like freight trains). Ironically, Zero started out as the best character in that hack, but it ends with X being the best for sure.... Kinda reflects X's arc perfectly.
My intro into mega man was the OG mega man x my friend owned. I was obsessed with Zero too and when you got to play as him and get his sword as a secret weapon I was in heaven. I skipped x2 so x3 was my favorite in the series. I know it’s straight up nostalgia for me but I will always love x3 the most.
I've personally completed mega man X3 myself and I can definitely understand people's problems with it. In hindsight I actually do enjoy this game because I do love seeing Vile put back in the mega man x storyline but it does take multiple playthroughs with regards to my personal completionist attitude when it comes to completing and permanently retiring this game. You played it and you got it completed and it wasn't that much of a time sink and as long as you got a little bit of fun out of it, that is all that truly matters.
Haa! As soon as you started talking about the game i had a "rush" of memories about being So much happier when X4 came out because i had Been wanting to play as Zero forever and X3 was Not the opportunity i had hoped for. I also forgot that X3 came out on SNES and PlayStation, my friend and i had only seen it for PlayStation. Thank You "The Completionist" for reviving some of my old memories 👍
This is my favorite of the originals... the tracks are among the best for my tastes and playing as Zero was amazing.. especially if you finished X2 with Zero saved.. I also felt it was the most challenging of all the X games (not as bad as any of the original x games pre 7, or to say this is a super hard game or anything). The chips were so tempting but the gold armor is where it’s at.
My biggest complaint with X3 is the extreme difficulty curve. At the beginning of the game you're getting 2 shotted and dying constantly and it feels impossible to make any real headway, but when you finally break through that wall, the game eventually becomes way too easy.
I love all mmx series too. But definitely recommend playing the three zero project rom hack for mmx3. Playing the whole thing as zero is like the only reason I play mmx3 now lol
So happy I ran across Mega Man X3 - Zero Project. Allows Zero to be fully playable. Great review. Your prospective mostly matches my thoughts on the game too.
Like others have said, there's a rom hack called Megaman X3 Zero Project that fixed every single issue with the game, even some of the controls are more responsive, and makes it way more fun to collect everything. Originally it was intended to just make Zero actually playable, but it became a much bigger project with the time. I wasn't too fond of X3 either, but after playing that rom hack it became one of my favorite X games ever, up there with X1 and X4. Check it out, you'll love it!
I played this game about a year ago now, and I've already forgotten most of this game, lol. I remember not liking it as much as the first two, Zero being only "kinda" playable was kind of annoying, I hated the chip system and the way they play into getting the Ultimate Armor, wasn't a fan of the Final Boss having such a small hitbox. I did like Vile's theme though, easily the best part about the game. Nonetheless, I always enjoy seeing you complete the Mega Man games. They're always some of the most entertaining videos you make. As always, looking forward to the next Completionist, and the next NG+.
I completely understand the complaints about this game across the board. I do have nostalgia goggles when I play it still to this day but I appreciate everything this game brought to the formula. Things like a resurrected Vile and different bosses based on the optional bosses beat and such. Gold armour, pink chips, and Zero's beam saber were cool additions. Also all the main bosses having a kind of rage mode near the end of the fight was a nice change up. I remeber it being more difficult then the previous X games too. This is still my second favorite of the X games. X1 is still king
With all the secret little things in X3 I always figured that the game was designed to encourage trying all sorts of things, encouraging exploration and trying different combinations even more than in the previous X games. I mean in order to get the saber you have to defeat Vile with his weakness in the warehouse confrontation. Doing this destroys him completely and he doesn’t get away, and in his place is the dragonfly robot. The same is also true of the mini boss fights Bit and Byte, if you manage to defeat both of them with their boss weaknesses they are also destroyed without coming back as an amalgamation boss in the first Dr. Doppler fortress level. The same is also true of the enhancement chips you can explore and find the particular one you want to use. (when I first played this game before finding out about the ultra chip I went for the one that allowed you to air Dash twice this was essential to me when fighting Sigma. The other thing is that the odd thing is that if you play the game without getting the Z saber, you don’t get the canonical ending of the game, The funny thing is you actually get what seems to be a better ending that means there will be no sequels because zero shows up and hits sigma with an antivirus program on his sword which completely destroys sigma. But that only leads to questions of how he survived for X4. Meaning that the ending where Dr. Doppler sacrifices himself is the actual canonical ending of the series. So I think that X3 was more of trying to come up with other ways to encourage both replayability and exploration of different facets of the game.
@@toaster_rtx1829 Yes, but X4 and X5 still did not match X1 and X2. The graphics was the only thing that made those 2 games unique. X4 and X5 ost was not great and the bosses were not memorable. The devs thought that better graphics was the answer when truly the game was never in need of a graphics upgrade. It needed better boss mechanics, level design and a nice OST like X1 and X2. Thats why in my opinion after X3 it was all down hill from there.
X3 was my first megaman ever, i didn't even know there was an other version of megaman growing up, the original one, i just loved the X games and i remember being puzzled of why Megaman looked like a kid instead of an adult in marvel vs capcom when I played it with my brother. I also remember the anime scenes introducing every boss in the pax version, this is a very nostalgic game for me
I played it as a kid still own my cart and I like it a lot. I thought the chip system gave it more replayability cause I was excited when I discovered it. I remember finding the empty room where the gold armor was and having to figure out what to do to get the capsule to appear. It was during a play through where I decided to get everything but the pink capsules for an extra challenge since some of them made the game easier. Shit my pants when I found it. I played it so much I would beat all the levels with zero and bosses with x. Imagine my surprise when he didn't warp away when I approached the boss door thinking it would swap automatically like in every other level.
It's not just you fam. I did get the chance to play this one as a lad, and it felt just as unsatisfactory then as it does now. But I still replay it as often as the other two cause I love me some megamans.
I can promise you your opinions on X3 are 100% valid despite nostalgia for the first two games because I have no nostalgia for the X games but when I played them recently on the MMX legacy collection X3 was the most frustrating and boring and didn’t stick out all that much.

...because I don't blame you at all.
My favorite bosses and weapons are from mega man x3 except for the mega buster upgrade. I totally get the issues people have against this game.
Got to agree. This is the weakest of the original SNES trilogy.
Makes the game an 11/10
I am going through an X phase...again... and was wondering (yesterday) when you were going to do X3! Here it is! Great timing and awesome channel!
one thing i can really appreciate about these reviews is the consistency of the scores and the feedback. By the end of the video, you already know what Jirard's rating will be. That takes some quality script writing and delivery.
I had it February 96'
I wish I would've kept it...
Its so valuable now...
THE SOUNDTRACK IS 🥇
this video is so smart and witty, from the title to the actual cutaways, some which shadow the actual game problems and turn them into a joke. Love it!
these videos get me through my week man. much love to Jirard and the crew
Ride on!
That might be the most disappointed "finish it" I've ever heard from The Completionist
Seriously, this whole episode was a drag, it’s still a great game but that episode was just so downtrodden
I feel like ive never given the X series enough love, then again my favorites will always be the Legends games
8 is actually really good. Especially after 7.
Definitely a huge improvement
Can confirm. I already liked X8 before but after playing X7 for the first time and then following it up with X8 it's definitely a good breath of fresh air. Even if some of the stages are still a bit bullshit
@@RayShadow278 it’s not perfect, but still a good time, not to mention probably the only catchy elevator music in existence😏
@@gohantanaka let’s not give up hope
I was just waiting for the introduction of the surprise guest to be a loud yell of “Bears!”
Please don’t ever reconcile with that dufus.
I must've missed some drama ... who was the dufus? that wasn't the guy who forced New Game Plus to be a thing, is it? I don't remember him looking like a caveman, but also, I only found the Completionist about 2 weeks before that shit hit the fan
@@ideitbawxproductions1880 we don’t talk about him🤫
I never saw getting the Z-Saber as part of completion because it forced you into a worse ending than keeping Zero around. Yes, it's a minor change in the ending dialogue and you don't see both X and Zero running through the credits at the end, but to me, that felt way more important than bait like a "bonus weapon" as much as the Z-Buster was a bonus weapon in X1.
Oh shit. It took way too long for me to get the play on words in the title.
Then as I was getting ready to watch it I remembered how Zero was implemented.
i get the hate for Megaman X6 and X7, but why do people dislike X8? I think its amazing. Maybe not as X4 or X5 but i still loved it
People suck too hard at it, you’re right though, it’s great
I personally think x3 is the worst of the original Megaman x trilogy.
But all things considered it’s still a pretty good game.
I looooved x 1 and 2.....3 just never vibed with me. They stages felt empty, like this game was just never planned out as well as the others. I'm so glad you made this vid🙌
Number one best thing about Mega Man X3? The ending theme and credits. Man, those songs are amazing!
Wow, I thought this video was 5 years ago until I saw it was 1 day ago.. Good Content👍👍
Ugh x3 one of the worst i would say its down at the bottom of the list with 6 and 7
My intro into mega man was the OG mega man x my friend owned. I was obsessed with Zero too and when you got to play as him and get his sword as a secret weapon I was in heaven. I skipped x2 so x3 was my favorite in the series. I know it’s straight up nostalgia for me but I will always love x3 the most.
"Megaman X3 has Zero Problems"
Then why is he criticizing the game so much?
*Realization*
Ahhh the ringtone! I love Community!
I always thought the Hyper Chip was an homage to Ghouls n Ghosts, the gold armor.
5:53 Oh wow, I've never thought of that. When I see others doing it, they usually use Strike Chain (or whatever Sponge's weapon's name was)
I dont think I've seen Jirard recently, so the salt and pepper beard threw me for a loop. It looks great tho
Haven't played any X game more than the first one, and I still love x3 a lot. Unlocking zeros saber is so amazing.
Hilariously, just as Jirard finished mentionin that the guest star wasn't going to be a deeply unsatisfying metaphor for the game, I got an ad.
Idk man X3 was a let down. It was all down hill from there. Still it was fun to play though.
What are you talking about? X4 and X5 are after this
@@toaster_rtx1829 Yes, but X4 and X5 still did not match X1 and X2.
What about X4?
@@Ragnarok1881 I have no clue what your on about. X4 is on par with X1 and 2, arguably better than X2.
@@toaster_rtx1829 I completely agree
All my memories of this game came from me playing it on my windows me computer. Yes the game released on pc and had the cool intro cutscenes too
That Wild Arms battle music toward the end!!
I just started playing this game for the first time yesterday. Perfect timing!
I just started playing Megaman for the first time 2 days ago.
Finished Link To The Past just a week ago.
Damn those games are better than I expected.
It's not just you fam. I did get the chance to play this one as a lad, and it felt just as unsatisfactory then as it does now. But I still replay it as often as the other two cause I love me some megamans.
I used password to get all sub tanks and hearts then started playing . The grind for them is stupid annoying
It's sad to say but this game is WAY better with all the Rom hacks that came out for it
I know, right? You can even play with Black Zero against all bosses!😁
I can promise you your opinions on X3 are 100% valid despite nostalgia for the first two games because I have no nostalgia for the X games but when I played them recently on the MMX legacy collection X3 was the most frustrating and boring and didn’t stick out all that much.
