    LoL! When my Force Recon dad came back from Nam - I trained in Combat Judo in my front yard in the Mojave desert
    Rocks and dirt cactus, and rocks.
    That saved my life in a Motorcycle accident as I just performed a Judo front roll never hitting my head.

    I once tripped stepping up a kerb in downtown Sydney because I was yakking and not paying attention.
    As I fell forward, I automatically pushed forward with my foot and managed to roll forward and stand up in one go. This was years after I practiced shuai jiao at uni.
    Glad It was somehow still there and saved me from just falling and smashing my face on the pavement.
    It really impressed my nieces to see a middle-aged dude somersaulting and rolling out in the street. I heard them whisper, "He moves like a stuntman." My brother told them I was just showing off. LOL

      The breakfalls are life saving! Saved me from breaking my neck when i fell off the top of a fence . Landed on my eyebrow and rolled out into a full run.

    Look at "Luta Marajoara". And also "Luta Livre Esportiva". Also "Huka Huka", "Aipenkuit", "Idjassu" and "Tarraca". Wrestling styles from Brazil.
    - "Tarraca" is from the brazilian state of Maranhao and was incorporated in Capoeira takedowns, throws and trips.
    - "Luta Marajoara" is from the same region where the Gracies are from, the state of Para, in the brazilian Amazon.
    - "Luta Livre Esportiva" is from Rio de Janeiro and had a rilvary with the Gracies Jiu Jitsu in the "Vale Tudo" era.
    - "Huka Huka", "Idjassu" and "Aipenkuit" have competitions in the indignous olympics games in Brazil.

    I witnessed Shorinji Kempo in a traditional dojo inside a temple in Yamaguchi and they were drilling throws in a hard wooden floor 😮

    Chokhe or Choke jacket wrestling from Khorosan, Iran. This probably comes from that. You get sheep/goat as a prize. Pretty sure Molaei came from that sport

    I think when it some to cloth wrestling these are toughest as they work with less safer environment.
    Also, I love you analysis. Hope you do some other wrestling/grappling as well like the Vikings etc. These less discussed cultured in terms of martial arts.

    Ukemi prevented my being deceased, or paralysed, as a teen; having been doing Judo since about age 6; aged 14, I experienced a 40+ fall at school, onto solid hard ground; (during an ambulance strike no less!), 3 lumbar vertebrae cracked across, but compacted together. All down to well practised ukemi!!

      @@scarred10 not true. We spar and do randori. We also throw on hardwood floors. So, you can imagine what's going through my head when I see the BJJ guys talk trash on us and then take out the big fluffy mat, lol.

      People also need to realize Jigoro Kano did not invent those throws for Judo(1882, Olympic sport 1964). They originally came from Budo or should I say Kobudo-which is much, much older and was used in real combat(Think Samurai).

    • @scarred10
      @scarred10 2 місяці тому

      @@Ragingmarmot they didnt come from budo anyway,it was bujitsu since budo are the modern Japanese arts that stress a way of life like karatedo, kendo,aikido and judo.koryu arts train by kata,there has never been any emphasis on sparring and most do none at all.If you have a video of any koryu sparring with contact,lets see it ?

    • @Ragingmarmot

      @@scarred10 Kobudo is not modern. It literally means "The Old Martial Ways". Love your statement and question. If it ain't on youtube, it isn't real. LOL. Another "expert" who has no idea what he is talking about.

    Funny how the raw, dirty Tajik wrestler did a much safer Uchi Mata Makikomi that was much easier on uke than the guy from the very clean Kodokan video.

    The weight of Tori landing on top of you with uchimata maki Komi is a bit risky as well. VERY effective in self defense situation. Uke will feel that fall…

    Obviously it was eliminated in favor of catch as catch can and then freestyle, but i would be interested on any information on it.

    Kurash?

    • @anvark.1441
      @anvark.1441 2 місяці тому +3

      Yeah, I also thought it was Kurash. But basically when Uzbek guys go to Tajikistan to wrestle, in Uzbek they call it Kurash, and the same time in Tajik they call it Gushti. I am Uzbek and in Uzbek “Kurash” means to wrestle or overcomming your struggles. I would assume that in Tajik “Gushti” has similar meaning.

  • @henryc7548
    @henryc7548 2 місяці тому +2

    When I look at the wrestling, it looks a lot less like Tajik wrestling and judo developed the same canon of techniques, and more like Judo technques (through judo and sambo) became predominant in the sport by soviet introduction.

    • @TheDevourerOfPancake
      @TheDevourerOfPancake 2 місяці тому

      Do you understand the Tajikistan is filled with living breathing humans who can think for themselves? The entire canon of 'Judo' techniques were developed before humans set foot on the island of Japan. Thinking that these hapless savages need the cultured Japanese to teach them how to do basic body movements is a delusional amount of cultural supremacy.
