crankysports Exactly! I know myself have wondered what they each sounded like. You hate to buy one, put it on and its not what you wanted. Definitely a good video!
I had the old cherry bomb on my straight 250 6 cylinder it sound great on my 1947 Chevy coupe stylemaster. Then i took them off and put a very quiet mufflers where you can't even hear the car on. I like it that way so the neighbor's don't hear me coming and going. Before they would hear me starting my car at 5 am and coming home at 9 pm. I liked it in my younger year's now I want a quiet sound
@@tuckerlegg7236 I've ran long tube headers with 3 inch pipe with no muffler all the way back to tail pipes and it did sound alright but you need back pressure if it's a daily driver if it's a 1/4 or 1/8 mile car straight pipe is the way to go but dailys need to have back pressure to run good

You know, I still have the Cherry Bomb window stickers that came with them..as came with all performance parts at that time period! Great video!!
That saved me the trouble of not knowing what type of muffler sounds the best ! I like the vortex muffler !! Sounds like a truck and a high performance car at the same time awesome !
I like the sound of the vortex . I'm going to install one on my folks 2007 chevy Silverado 1500 4.8 factory Y into single pipe on my channel . some people dont know but it takes 500 to 1000 miles to break in a muffler with packing in a dialy driver . Great video 😎🔧🏁
Good comparisons & they sound great, On my Silverado 1500 302 I decided to connect from the cat with a flex connector to a cherry bomb to a small 90° drop connection to a resonator tip dumped out in front of rear wheel. Ditch the U pipes under your truck & hook one of those up as a straight exhaust, the difference will amaze you. Thanks for the video.
I've been using the Cherry bomb glass pack and a Corvette radiator cap to outrun the police here in Detroit for over 20 years. I know I go down Gratiot almost every night all the way to the floorboard
This was a very thorough muffler test & was not boring at all . The gentleman went about his work as if it were a piece of cake . Very informing video . For those of us who are very particular about the sound our vehicles' make may go through 4 or 5 systems before being satisfied . A low V8 mellow sound at highway speeds is a very pleasing experience .Too bad you don't drive a V8 Ford , they have the best sounding engine of all the 8 cylinder vehicles made and an ( H ) makes them sound even better . Good job my friend , well done !!
You did a really great job on demonstrating the Cherry Bomb mufflers my choice would be between the glass pack in the turbo really hard to choose but my very favorite part of the video are the words you said at the very end "GOD BLESS" I wish more people would keep God in their lives and express their love for him more
They sound even better with short or no tail pipes. I spent A LOT of money learning this... I'd put them behind the Axel with a short pipe or a exhaust tip with muffler close to the end of the pipe as possible. It can make a major difference, if you gotta have tail pipes, the larger in diameter as possible helps. But still short, or turn downs or turn outs, even just a tip like a 3" by 12" long to a 4" by 18" tip after the muffler. It will sound awsome.. Great video... Something like this could have saved me a load of money years ago. I spent near $1000 on cat back systems , listening to other ppl. Mostly muffler shops. One put 2" tailpipes on my dual 2.5" exhaust! And for what they charged it should have been 2.5-3", I got pissed and cut it off! With flow masters, it sounded great! The tail pipes made the flow masters sound like glass packs!!! But with no tails, it sounded awesome!! Expensive lessons!! Atleast I was taught something!!! Great video...
I used the Vortex on my Challenger 3.6 engine. It had a good deep sound and opened up good at full throttle. I have a couple of videos on UA-cam running them. One a top speed run and the other a drive off and drive by sound.
I though, there is no way I'm watching an 18 minute video on muffler tone, when every other UA-cam video records sound at the tailpipe and spends 5 minutes talking up a 150 muffler that sounds the same on camera as some 15 dollar cherry bomb. You nailed all the right test and conditions, best exhaust review I've seen hands down. Turbo sounded best to me because of the mellow tone and got aggressive when you ripped on it. Great job man!
In my opinion, any Chevy sounds good with a Cherry bomb. I remember having a cherry bomb glasspack and high flow cat on my 94 Chevy Cavalier with the 2.2 liter. It sounded awesome.. Great job on this video. Keep up on the good work.
Extreme: Our dream Glasspack: Pulled over for straight pipes; need something Turbo: When we can't find the right flowmasters Salute: When we can't find the Vortex Vortex: When we want noise but our wife is going through menapause
Back in 80's in my mudding days, I always had 2 cherry bomb glasspacks on my truck.😁 Now that I'm older, I'd have to go with the single cherry bomb turbo😔...lol
I had 3"collector type cherry bombs on my 70 ss nova 4speed with headers.so it was headers and the header mufflers that's all car also had bigblock springs out front . wouldn't have it any other way
The old school "Thrush" canister mufflers were the best. Sound better than all those demonstrated. In my own personal opinion. Would love to have a set or 3. Haven't seen them around in a long time.
I like the Vortex best on your test. I just did something similar with my 5.6 Titan. Bought it stock and really wanted to hear it so I cut the muffler out and welded a straight pipe in its place. Sounded great! Then I replaced the headers with some catless longtubes and there goes any chance of driving this thing anywhere! It was so ridiculously loud that I went to the closest auto parts store and grabbed a Flowmaster 44 off the shelf just to make it drive-able. It was still too loud and had a very loud "poppy" sound right between 1800-2100 RPM. I got rid of that with a blow through resonator (pretty much a glass pack) and it was still too darn loud. The drone from the Flowmaster was deafening and I needed something better. Just installed a Magnaflow 3 chamber and now its perfect. Catless headers join into one pipe on passenger side then the resonator then the Magnaflow. Sounds beefy still but my headaches are gone! Thanks for the video!
I've got the Cherry bomb VORTEX installed in my 2001 YUKON and sounds awesome, not too loud at idle but kinda loud at around 2000 rpm that it triggers car alarms lol.
Okay, so based on what I heard here, the muffler sounds, I went and bought a Cherry Bomb Vortex 3 in / 3 out from Summit. Along with the muffler I purchased a new Dynomax intermediate pipe and tailpipe. A pair of Summit 14" long 3" turndowns finished off my order. One turndown was used at the end of the tailpipe and the exit length was perfect. The other turndown was sacrificed to make up the short straight run from the rear of the muffler to the tailpipe. I already had replaced the exhaust downpipe last year when the cats started rattling around like they had rocks in them. So basically a 3" OEM exhaust. It sounds great. This is on a 2003 Tahoe with the 5.3 Flex motor. No droning at all, just sounds healthy. Thanks for doing a realistic comparasion. Forgot to mention got the stainless clamps to join the pipes.
@@TheDaninator Yes thanks again for doing the video. I also have an 86' Ramcharger with a 360/4bbl at. I ran 2 1/2" downpipes to a 2 into 1 Magnaflow "Y" that goes into a 3" Thrush Welded muffler and exits in an OEM 3" diesel tailpipe. WAY TOO LOUD! The Tahoe has a nice deep rumble at idle and off idle, then sounds really good giving it some pedal. I am 60 and grew up with the muscle car scene and had always liked the sound. My wife has, of all things, since you have one, an 02" TrailBlazer that is pretty sharp, LTZ package and all. It has a straight 6 in it and I was wondering how it would sound with one of the Cherry Bomb Vortex mufflers and removing that garbage can sized resonator at the bumper. Any thoughts?

The early 90's sounded way better, had a 91 silverado with the 5.7. The 5.3 doesn't sound as good, and cherry bomb doesn't sound nearly as good as what you can get either. I ran a 3" pipe with no cat and a red hots flowtech glasspack. Sounded absolutely badass! Ran the exit pipe at a 45° angle about a foot or so before the back tire, and the glasspack right in between the tailpipe and the y-pipe. Also if your looking for a badass glasspack, check out the purple hornies that flowtech sells, they have a great sound.
Thanks for making this video. It was the first video I watched and the one I referred to when I bought the glass pack for my truck. Installed it today and it sounds beautiful
I like the way the Extreme and Vortex sounds. I don’t care for turbo or straight through designs. Always loved the deep tone and crack of a chambered exhausts
I did Cherry Bomb glass packs on my '57 Chevy 2 dr hardtop when I was a kid. In 2 weeks they burnt out and were LOUD. Got me picked up by the Hwy Patrol. Extreme is nice sounding as well as the Vortex.
Like the video idea of showing each perspective of driving by, idle and interior sound. You’re not just putting the camera in front of the exhaust and revving it up. 🤙
Thank you for Doing this comparison and the Work involved. I just made an appointment to have a pair of the Vortex installed on my 454 Camaro in a couple weeks . The ones on there now sound like baloney farts . Great Video, into included . Many thanks
Glad I found this video. Building my 78 silverado and wanted to get the extream muffler but was on edge. This video put my doubts to rest. I think the extream will be perfect for my 350
I agree with Tim Michaels. Vortex & Extreme.......well around 15-16 years ago a buddy of mine "Steve" had a 98 Cobra with a vortech blower. one day he had a baffle fail in one of the 2 chamber flowmasters on the car. well he was close to a part store and they had the old school cherry-bomb glass pack for $12.00. he shows up and his car sound so mean and different than what we ever heard. that combination of one flowmaster and one glass pack to this day was the best sounding 4.6L I've ever heard. His car remained this way for the next 8 years till he sold it. ............RIP Steve"Sweet Pete"Peters
Excellent video. Appreciate your time and analysis with these mufflers especially with the hill acceleration. I wish we could see more muffler comparisons but that could get pricey. Great intro as well.
This is a great carguy video! Well thought out video and just what guys and gals want to hear! Thanks for your efforts and this video. Damned spell checker! Cherry Bombs, Purple Hornies, some of the greatest mufflers on 50-60s cars.
Which Cherry Bomb sounds best on the Silverusto? A. Glasspack B. Extreme C. Turbo D. Vortex Check these out on my Yukon too: ua-cam.com/video/FCR-v090xWA/v-deo.html
I feel like the glasspack sounds the best on the throttle harder, but it gives off almost a popping noise on idle which I don’t like. I like the extreme it sounds the best to me. My glasspack sounds really good on a nice cold morning start up 😌
I like the vortex the best for over all idle, acceleration and cab noise. Personally though I would choose the glass pack because it is probably the best for its price. Great video because it compares them under the same conditions. I always wondered what the thrush rattler would sound like in case you want to do a video on it.
I've been running cherry bombs for years nothing beats the original. They have a very mellow tone and once they break in they Crackle. I had a pair of them on my 51 Ford F1 pickup with a Chevy small block in it and ran tailpipes all the way back to the rear bumper, I've done the same on my standard cab 8 foot bed 1991 Chevy 1500 running app pair of Sanderson shorty headers dual catalytic converters and duel cherry bombs with tail pipes all the way back to the bumper, man what a sweet sound! Don't like the sound of those turbo style mufflers they sound hollow and gutless.
Thanks for the time you spent to do the video, really informative and helpful , I’m one of those guys who’s trying to find the perfect sound on a muffler. I have a Nissan Titan 5.6 V8 and I have a Flowmaster super 44 but its all rusted already and it’s time to replace. I’m looking for a Loud and Deep sound for my truck. I agree with you the cherry bomb Vortex has a aggressive deep sound. Thanks again for the Vid

Like the video idea of showing each perspective of driving by, idle and interior sound. You’re not just putting the camera in front of the exhaust and revving it up. 🤙
THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT EFFORT!
Thank you for Doing this comparison and the Work involved. I just made an appointment to have a pair of the Vortex installed on my 454 Camaro in a couple weeks . The ones on there now sound like baloney farts . Great Video, into included . Many thanks
I agree with you. The Vortex is the best sounding one. Excellent presentation. I truly appreciate your video. Thank you!
No cats, Flowmasters, and dual tailpipes would be best but I think the glasspack and extreme sound best in this video.
If you leave the glasspacks on, I'd reccomend 3 inch tips coming out of a y pipes. Looks and sounds sexy. Gives it a little extra growl.
Glass Pack - Yes
Extreme - Yes
Turbo - No
Vortex - Yes
Glad I found this video. Building my 78 silverado and wanted to get the extream muffler but was on edge. This video put my doubts to rest. I think the extream will be perfect for my 350
I appreciate your time and effort you put into this video! I'm definitely for the Vortex as well :) might even go out and get me one of those!
Great choice!
I got a 27 inch thrush glass pack 2 years back and its beast on my 5.3
The Extreme sounds just like the Flowmaster Super10s on my wife’s F-150.
I have the same truck and i did a muffler delete.. just cut off muffler put strait piece of pipe in place. Very happy with the results
Should have just done straight pipe just for the heck of it. I’d like to see a decibel meter beside the output and in the cab as well. Cool video!
That's awesome!
Tough call between the glasspack and vortex for me.
Great video. My personal favorite is he Cherry Bomb Extreme sound on your truck. Just awesome. Made the truck sound powerful.
Excellent video. Appreciate your time and analysis with these mufflers especially with the hill acceleration. I wish we could see more muffler comparisons but that could get pricey. Great intro as well.
I had no idea Cherry Bomb made more than 1 exhaust I have had the originals and sounded awesome. Awesome video I like the extremes best
im a cherry bomb fan so it was very hard for me to decide between the extream and glasspack but went with the glasspack
Extreme C. Turbo D. Vortex
Check these out on my Yukon too: ua-cam.com/video/FCR-v090xWA/v-deo.html
The Daninator A for sure man. Like hearing that 5.3 roar.
I feel like the glasspack sounds the best on the throttle harder, but it gives off almost a popping noise on idle which I don’t like. I like the extreme it sounds the best to me. My glasspack sounds really good on a nice cold morning start up 😌
Matt Jones I ain’t gonna lie, it crossed my mind
I like the vortex the best for over all idle, acceleration and cab noise. Personally though I would choose the glass pack because it is probably the best for its price. Great video because it compares them under the same conditions. I always wondered what the thrush rattler would sound like in case you want to do a video on it.
Gary Owens I could have gotten those, but decided on these four.
I wanna hear what happens when you put flow pattern mufflers on backward.
By far the best UA-cam vids ever
this video is music to my ears
Thanks man! Share the music with your friends! Lol
For me too
This is a great video and I appreciate you going through all the trouble to demonstrate these mufflers. Thank you
Charles Potts my pleasure, thanks for watching!
I've got the long red cherry bomb on my 92 Toyota pickup 2,4 and my 97 Integra b18b1 and they sound sooo much better then other glass packs. GO CHERRY BOMB!!
Vortex was the winner for me. The others sounded way too quiet sadly. The Vortex has the deep growl that sounds sweet in my opinion.
I want to hear this on an old high compression engine with the old firing order. Thank you for your time and effort putting this together tho. It was alot more helpful than the cute sound effects cherry bomb has posted on there sight.
