@@johnlawrence2757 True. I was expecting just a little bit more of a dynamic ending. An octave higher. That aside, he is still one of my top favorite singers.
If you like him singing this song, look for him for other songs he sang and taped from this Melbourne, Australia concert. You will not be disappointed. I really miss him. I have listened to him since around 1960 and have just about all of his albums and records. He always has been my favorite and will be until the day I die.
Simply majestic, the incomparable, unequalled, beautiful voice of the magnificent Mr. Roy Orbison ! The Lovely Linda and I were blessed to see/hear Roy sing his heart out at Lulu's Roadhouse, here in town. He was spine-tinglingly awesome! I was fortune enough to get a close-up photograph, which I cherish amongst my treasures.
I am 71 and have been a fan forever. I was lucky to see him perform at the peak of his success back in the day on a number of occasions. I never tire of listening to him. Got most of his recordings that I have collected over the years on vinyl the best medium ever.
No idea he did this version ever existed and have others have tried. This is absolutely the best and dam close to the original. My Christmas was just made on 12-25-2024. Thank you so much. Love and miss you Roy.
Roy is generally regarded as one of the best male singers ever, having said that, this is not one of his best performances, he doesn’t sing it as well as Art Garfunkle.
I am a country music fan but there are certain artists from my growing up that I really like and still listen to and Roy Orbison is one of them. He's in a class all by himself!
Another song covered by Roy Orbison which once again shows just what a wonderfully beautiful voice he had. I love watching the many videos that people have put in the time and effort to post on UA-cam. As much as I enjoy watching the video's and listening to his records it still makes me so sad that we lost Roy at such a young age. Three of the greats in the music world I was able to see live in Concert but passed away way to young were Roy Orbison, which was twice in the late 70's and Janis Joplin in Jan.of 1970. Also saw Elvis in 1975. I feel so privileged and lucky to have seen these three Icons and Legends live in Concert.
I have been to where he was born Vernon Texas grew up in WInk and where he died , only one place to go where he is buried in Hollywood. Without doubt the finest songsmith of his and any generation.
Até o Elvis reconheceu. E em vida se rendeu a Roy orbison reconhecendo-o como um grande cantor e uma das vozes mais bonitas. Elvis colocou Roy onde ele devia estar nas alturas.
Plus the awesome Johnny Cash. He covered this song with Fiona Apple, on the American Recordings series. I saw Cash in concert many times here in England.
Beautiful this is first time I've heard him do this song He has been my favorite singer since early 60's Brought tears to my eyes I was lucky enough to hear him live a couple times
Just heard this for the first time and he has sung it sublimely, just as well as Art, if not better. His subtle little changes from the original make it sound even better than the original. I’m not sure which is better, but this version simply, has Roy’s ownership on it. It is a classic version, as good as any Simon&Garfunkle version. This is simply eclectic.
I’m a huge Roy Orbison fan, however I can’t agree with you that he does better than Art Garfunkel singing this song. Garfunkel singing this is one of the best vocals in the history of music.
@ Art didn’t have autotune when they recorded this song. Don’t get me wrong, I put Roy Orbison on top as a male vocalist, I just feel Art is untouchable on this song.
what a great tribute to paul simon for roy to do this song he is a great artist too him and art started busking in London and the rest is history roy was a real gentleman none better
His rendition lends a more simpler understanding of the song to me. Because, the overpowering beauty and grandeur of the Simon and Garfunkel Original has far more intricacies and complexities, and stimulates the emotions of the era and the times, along with the almost mystical beauty and lore of the harmonious depths of the voices and innocence of a young Simon and Garfunkel. The Original can never be surpassed. It stands on its own. However, I can be so overwhelmed and swept up into the emotion of the original version as an experience, that I never actually realized the lyrical simplicity as expressed in this Orbison cover. This version allows me to hear the song without all the emotional background of my youth growing up and the memories and feelings associated with the song and holding the album cover and gazing at the vinyl record on my stereo turntable, the nuns in my school auditorium being awed by its depth and it being sung in choir. The song defined the times and the sentiments of the era. Simon and Garfunkel were the great minstrels of the 60’s and 70’s. It can never be duplicated or surpassed. Art Garfunkel’s version in Central Park was absolutely sublime and one felt literally slain and left vulnerable and open by its soul-piercing sense of mercy being bestowed in the lyrics of love and benediction between two human souls, one being temporarily deficient, being held and uplifted by a stronger mentor.
Saw him in NYC right before he passed. He was as brilliant then as ever. This is one of the greatest songs ever written, covered brilliantly, but Roy just absolutely nailed it!! He was so so good.
it's simply....the best are gone people....the best.....hurts to listen to this, especially when u know these people put there hearts in this music.....rip Roy....Thanx for your music....I was in elementary school when it came over the intercom that he had passed away.....so sadddd
I saw Roy 3 times in the mid-80s. Twice was at a place in DC called the Bayou. The club was in Georgetown. It held about 400 people. I was so close I could have touched Roy. When I think of those two shows I start to tingle. Harmonic brilliance and I was there. I'm so glad Roy became a Wilbury and got to taste the admiration he deserved.
I had no idea the Big "O" had covered this song. I've heard the Elvis cover and Jeeez, that was awesome! This version though blows that into oblivion - even Elvis admitted Roy was the King of Rock'n'Roll - this proves it! Absolutely amazingly awesome!!!!
Although Elvis really didn't admit to the big O being the king, he has been known as the soul of rock n roll, or the blue angel of rock n roll. He DID admit that Roy had the best voice ever and would never share a stage or sing his songs out of respect for his friend ✌🏼️ God bless
The funny thing is that Elvis never claimed to be king of anything, much less give the crown to any other artist .Orbison and Elvis have their own vocal style ,not better not worse, just different .
+Juan Carlos Cabrera Menendez What do you know pal? Elvis called Roy "the greatest singer that ever lived." Hell he's more of a king than you can dream about. Keep your mouth shut without knowledge.
I love S&G but this is SPECIAL!! He pays tribute to them both by singing this!! The greatest lyricists coupled with the greatest baritone with multi octave range........ sorry for not better describing....
I'm 80, and I never heard him sing this before. Thanks, Lu!!!!
Amazing
Not at his best though, is he!

Roy Orbisson had one of the best voices , even today not many ‘singers’ can come near him for his vocal purity and range .
Elvis Presley once said that Roy Orbison was the best singer in the world.
I am almost 67 and never heard him sing this before! Thanks, Lu! From Rio de Janeiro, Brazil!!
74.5 now. Big big Roy fan. Never heard him sing this!

Everything he sings is so beautiful…..that tone in his voice is just wow!🙏👌😎
the best rendition of this song ive ever heard
Try listening to Elvis's version it might change your mind.
Average cover.
Spot on, a full step flat is not acceptable, karaoke performance!
Roy could sing Happy Birthday & it would be beautiful... R.I.P.
The people that put thumbs down to this great singer have no pulse !
the backing band and the arrangement are poor and his performance suffers as a result
WOW-a 75 year old man just cried.
how many singers had an orchestra behind them instead if blaring whatever you want to call it this man is just pure class
WOW!!!!!!!! FIRST TIME I HEAR THIS VERSION BY ROY!!!! WONDERFUL!!!!
The most amazing artist of all time a voice that never grows old a voice beyond all voices Thank you Roy Orbison ♥️🕊♥️

Andreas Beckers Elvis passed Roy by far but Roy was good !!
Paul Simon must have been very proud to know Roy covered this...fantastic voice!
Beautiful!!!!!!!!!
Art Garfunkel. Is not the only one to do justice to this song.
Thank you.
I had no idea Roy covered this and I wonder why I never heard him perform it before -- his voice and this song belong together.

I’m a huge Roy fan & never heard him sing this song; great post; thanx!
Great performance that proves what a singular voice Art Garfunkel has. Great as Roy Ornison is, this is tribute level compared to the real thing.
i believe every word Roy sings.
I love Roy Orbison songs and his voice ....good interpretation ! Cheers from Lisbon 🇵🇹
Even Elvis said Roy had a better voice than him. (Roy had a full 4 octave range) He makes this difficult song look easy.
Wow! I’ve loved Roy’s singing for a long time. This was outstanding!
Wow thought i had listen to all his singing. He did a good job
I miss this guy terribly
