This is our second K-Classic. We had our first one for many years, so when we had to replace it, we wanted nothing else but this exact ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf model. We use it for about three people everyday in the morning. The taste and quick brew is one of the reasons we like it so much. There are so many choices of brands of coffee that we would grab what was on sale and test the different brands from there. I would definitely recommend trying different brands of coffee to find the ones you like the most because there are brands that quite frankly taste horrible.
My Moccamaster has been used for 18 years every day. Three or four jugs have broken. One time the water tank has been replaced. That's it. Works like new.
I got the polished silver KBG741AO and love it. Beans are my own roast in a Gene Cafe and water is re mineralized RO. Very consistent and good. Rancilio Rocky does the grind set @ med/coarse about 58 on the scale. Coffee flavor is superb every time. I am going to get rid of my Espresso gear. This is how coffee should taste.
I received my machine a week ago and have been using it every day. Sometimes twice a day! I noticed something that seems like a design flaw. When the machine is at its normal operating temperature (which is very not), the plastic reservoir lid deforms to where it no longer sits flat on the water reservoir. I believe this has to do with the very close proximity of the plastic lid to the 9-hole water outlet arm. Once the machine cools this plastic lids then returns to its normal shape, where it can then rest flat on the water reservoir. This "heat/deform" and "cool/reform" of this plastic lid does not seem like it was designed into the machine. I was wondering if you have noticed this as well?
So basically, if you want to stir or let it bloom, you could just remove the carafe for a bit with either this or the thermal auto version? And never run the risk of overflow you have with the manual by neglecting to open the drip stop? Right?
I had my old Mocchamaster for over 7 years, loved it, perfect temperature coffee. I bought a new MM Select and the first thing I noticed, the coffee is not as hot, and then after less than a year it has stopped brewing coffee. Power is on, heat plate is on, the water does not flow through the coffee basket. I am so disappointed!
Nice presentation! Though you state "glass", why do they use a plastic filter holder? Won't that impact the flavor after it passes through the paper filter?
I never understood why someone would want to sneak a cup when preparing a pot of coffee because that will throw off the balance of the pot and depending on how soon they sneak the cup it could be very very strong
Have you tried leaving the pot on the warmer for a while to see if it burns the coffee like some do? Do you know the standard warmer temps vs this one?
Hi Gail, I have a question for you. I’ve noticed that some of the Technivorm Moccamaster machines say “clubman” on them. Some have them, some don’t. The KBG model I have does not say “clubman,” others do. Do you know what, if any, differences there are? I am thinking about purchasing another Technivorm Moccamaster machine for my office, but I want one without the “clubman” logo. I think it cheapens the look of the machine. Anyways, just wondering as I have not been able to find any information on it
I just got the KGB but didn’t realize like you said, doesn’t have the slide adjuster on the grounds basket. Did I screw up by not getting the adjustable basket model?
Depends what you prefer. I was reading (and making up my mind on which I wanted, accordingly) how both models differ. And it seems to be down to what you think you will use it for. If you regularly expect to make half pots, the manual adjustment is a wise choice because you can slow down the dripping (set to half open) so that you have more saturation and extraction of the flavours as it goes down. This allows half pots to taste just as good as a full pot (I'm not sure how much more time it would take to complete on half open though, I don't have the machine yet) . The KBG model is more for people who want to start right away tasting while it's still brewing. Problem is it does not guarantee you have the full flavour before it's fully done. If you find the taste of a full pot to be great, then it's not a mistake at all that you went with the KBG, especially if the price is similar. :)
Thank you so much for your reply. I don’t have this machine (yet). My husband and I make coffee and pastries once a month in our village (we have a Rocket and offer lovely espressos etc) but are often asked for french press or filter coffee, and wondered if this machine could offer both, rather than buying half a dozen french presses. Many thanks and much love xx
No. I am sure you noticed that a french press does not use a filter. That plays a significant role in making a french press what it is. Filters in drip coffees take out the oils that make french press coffee taste the way it tastes. Soaking it in the basket before having it go through a filter will no doubt give you a stronger pot of coffee. However, it would not give you french press coffee.
