I dont know what to think about Line 6. I see concepts that they come up with that are crazy good, and then I'm disappointed in the delivery. Not every time... but often enough for it to make me wonder who they are as a company.
On a brighter side, they deserve a TON of credit. They have definitely driven the industry in directions that did not exist prior to them. Also, their modulation stuff is high quality and reasonable priced.
Overall, I'm just waiting...waiting..waiting for them to drop that final piece into place which will put them on my radar as a serious tone delivery platform.

little late but i gotta say i feel the same way..... always amazed at these demos n the players but the units themselves, for me, would never be for the stage.....
And this unit comes with a great guitarist able to play in any style... Impressive, most impressive.... Line 6 has taught you well.....I see you've constructed the new emulation unit, indeed you are powerful as the Digital revolution has foreseen..... Join me and together we can rule as a Line 6 unit and a player! Yes the temptation is there! These units are just constantly so impressive. I mean the Boss SE 50 that I bought 1991 still has features that are impressive to me, so what would it be with the processing power of this unit? Perhaps the gaggling old emperor was right, It is your dessssttiinnnyyy....
Is it better than the podhd? I love what line 6 is doing with technology but I returned mine two days after i got it. It can do great old school tones but then again i have tons of old gear that can do that. The hd high gain models sound brittle and overly digital.

I'm definitely sold on Paul Hindmarsh as a fantastic guitar player, but not the Variax Standard. I think the quality is definitely a step backwards from the JTVs. You can tell at a glance that it's just a Yamaha Pacifica with the Variax bridge and electronics.
As far as the palm muting issue that they've had since the first Variax......If Line 6 could somehow incorporate something like the Roland pickup into this, I think the palm muting stuff would work so much better.

how come there is no lag when he is switching between patches but there is on every other firehawk fx pedal i have one and there is a definite lag and in the forums everyone else with one has a lag but this guy doesnt. i suppose when you are trying to sell something it is not good practice to show the faults

I'll review it for ya,Horrible palm muting(under heavy distortion),12 string sounds are a warble digital nightmare,and only really works well if you use 11's,(dont know many rock players who do)But the acoustics sound good...How do I know? cause I have one and it sits and collects dust...Hope that helps..

Yes I did,theres really no way around it.11's and having to deal with the palm muting issue or dont play it.So I choose the latter.

Compared to the JTV the yamaha is a chunk of drift wood, its really bad what they have done to the Variax ,
good for demo and rehearsels. I just hate digital amps
It's only a matter of time before no-one will be able to tell the difference, ( I can't any more and am selling all my valve amps)I can see a time in the next 10-15 years where digital amps/units far outsell the valve equivalents, I remember a time when people where sceptical of CD as a medium for music, some claimed it sounded digital and harsh, how many people rock a vinyl turntable nowadays?
if you can't tell the difference you don't care and aren't listening anymore. the power amp section is where the magic happens. good pa good tone but you can never replace tube guitar amps and cabinets.

it's versatile but I can't hear anything great about the overall sound.
