    Cool! I was in the audience for this presentation. It was cool and I promptly purchased a Variax Jame Tyler model after seeing what it could do.

    I wondered when this was going to happen. Cool. I own 2 Line 6 various and, as a slide player, they are invaluable. Not having to deal with acoustic guitars feeding back is brilliant too.

    Hi there Is it possible to use it to live write guitar tabs into guitar tabs format (recognizing each string as played) with real notes length and pauses into Logic Pro X 10.4 as if it was a proper MIDI guitar ?

    • @tronlady1
      @tronlady1 2 роки тому +1

      Its not a MIDI guitar dude. Try the MIDI GUITAR app

    I have one (same colour as this) and it plays great....the magnetic pickups sound better than the Variax strat! After a bit of a proper set-up the guitar plays really great.
    I'm not a huge fan of the Variax stuff, but the actual guitar is really good...except the tram system. As good as useless as a playable trem system.

  • @devbig01
    @devbig01 8 років тому +1

    This guitar is a step backwards into old technology as far as tremolo design goes.
    1) String Trees are always a disaster when it comes to keeping a tremolo in tune.
    2) The old style “6 screw design” on the trem plate not only increases friction affecting tuning stability, but has no ability to “up pull”.
    3) For tremelos without a locking nut, locking tuners is an absolute must. No locking tuners here.
    The JT Viriax guitars have the right design that makes for a good tremolo system. Like Music Man, PRS, Fender (Stratocaster Deluxe) etc., these Variax guitars use:
    a) Dual pole piece design which reduces friction, improves feel, and allow “up pull” (Exception on the Fender Stratocaster Deluxe).
    b) Locking tuners eliminating winding of the strings around the tuning pegs.
    I think many guitarists, including myself, will see this tremolo design as going backwards. Overall, I think that it’s disappointing that Yamaha is so stagnant in their guitar designs......and, offers no more creativity than this for their first showing especially considering the fact that it is being paired with Line 6/Variax technology, one of the most creative out there.
    So, what does this guitar offer really? I think it would have made more sense strategically to make a 399.00 Variax out of pine that could be used seed the market to cultivate future buyers.

    • @AlexisGitarre
      @AlexisGitarre 7 років тому

      Number one and number two are bullshit.
      I repair around 200 guitars a year and string trees are absolutely no disaster and affect the tuning stability not at all if properly set up and good quality ones used.
      The trem is not an issue, if you really have problems buy the screws with grooves from goeldo. they are like mini versions of the bolts of floyd roses or other 2 point trems. If the goeldo screws are properly set you have an absolutely tuning stable trem at the cost of 4 bucks.
      Since I use the göldo I prefer 6 point trems over 2 point.

      @@AlexisGitarre Number 1 is not BS. I don't know about the Variax (but I'm buying one today) I have had 3 Ibanez AZ guitars from TQM1 to premium. They all have problems with string tree and tremolo. Luckily you can just drop the string tree on those guitars. Maybe you are not that sensitive to pitch as this is not a HUGE problem, but it IS a problem.....

      Yes, I did watch the video but he didn't say anything about octaves, he said you can use different tuning, like drop D, etc. Never mentioned you can go as low as an octave(remember drop D tuning you're only one key lower..Thanks anyway!

    Just bought Variax standard mainly for acoustic models and Im very disappointed especialy with 12 strings. It doesnt sound smooth and natural at all. It has some kind of high pitched tone to it that sounds like some cheap synth lead sound. The only way to not hear this is removing +12pitch in workbench, but I guess this pitched sound is the idea behind 12string emulation. I use Variax with Pod x3live via digital cable and directly to pc. Have tried many tone setups in x3 including no amp at all and acoustic still sound nothing like in sound presentations on yt. Anyone can help? Im upgrading fx to Helix floor shortly. D'you think it may help?

    • @jjjjcccc494
      @jjjjcccc494 6 років тому

      jgmusic81 I have no idea whether it will help your Variax tone, but the Helix is overflowing with amazing sounds. Try the Helix (not the legacy) rotary speaker. The legacy rotary ain't bad, but the Helix rotary blows away anything else I've tried. Wonderful, full bass response! I think you will love the Helix.

    • @vubear

      The impulse response capability of the helix will change your life. It's a massive step up.

    I bought this new right out of the box, and returned it four days later. The high E string wasn't accepting the signal, so it stayed on E and didn't convert when using different tuning or different tones. Is it too much to ask that a guitar be tested before leaving the factory?

  • @Jenk2k

    Saw this guy shredding his medley, sounded great in person. Wish the recording engineer wasn't clipping the converters.

  • @Czyszy

    I noticed that in the demos, nobody does regular strumming on the acoustic variax models. Only picked/fingerpicked stuff. Now I think I know why that is. (it sounds bad)

    • @y007p3
      @y007p3 6 років тому

      Czyszy Incorrect, the acoustic models are the best thing about the Variax. The Dobro in particular is pretty stellar. They do however sometimes benefit from using a different touch.

    The acustic sounds,need a kick in the arse,a compressor or an aural exiter,will do the job,and prefably acoustic amplifier,and then tones really come to life.

    $800 guitar. I get wanting to make a "more affordable" Variax, but when the JTV is only a little bit more, I don't see the point. The Standard looks like a step down in most regards, cutting corners on hardware and construction, but the drop in quality doesn't match the drop in price. Not worth it, I'd rather just get a JTV.
    edit: Great demo/presentation though.

      Now it's just over £300. Like all technology if you are prepared to wait, prices will fall like a stone. I think the latest price is great value.

    The amount of tonal options is nice, but there are better choices for the technology this offers.

      I find the Standard to be pretty sexy. They've done everything right except the missing belly contour. I really like the headstock. Looks way better then the yamaha headstock and I always liked the more modern look of the Pacifica body shape. I'm buying on today especially because the neck is extremely comfy and is really close to my MusicMan. The Tyler necks suck because they are WAY to thick.

    An embarrassingly awful piece of crap , tried four for stock and every one had flaws and bad workmanship , all returned as I couldn't sell this trash to customers . two had broken battery holders from new due to assembly , JTV was the best of the kind .

    • @waynemiller6070

      Yeah, I bought 2 JTV 89F. first had bad floyd. 2nd had bad floyd. first one went back to store. Second one went to line 6 and the put on a new trem for me. But quality control sucks. Shouldn't have to fart around for three and a half months to get a brand new guitar that's worth a hoot. Especially at the $1200-1300 level.
