Oh gosh! You saved me! I just put Gator Hide on a children’s desk and streaks are all over the top😩. I did everything you said NOT to do. Your channel is my New Best Channel 🥰. I turn 71 Tuesday and this is the best birthday present I can ever hope for! Thanks so much!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Great tips. Here is another tip that others might find useful regarding working with gatorhide: practice / test on a scrap piece. Preferably multiple times before moving to your final piece. Gatorhide has zero forgiveness and can very, very easily ruin a finish if you don't know exactly what you're doing with it. We love Dixie belle but have found Fusion Tough Coat to be a superior product in terms of ease of application and workability.
Thanks for the tips! I wondering how on earth I was going to tell my elderly parents they couldn't use their kitchen for 30 days while the gator hide cured. You saved me from that hassle! Thanks!
I usually wait at least a few days to a week before placing anything on top of a piece of furniture painted and sealed with Gator Hide. You can put items on the dressing table after waiting a few days to a week; however, I recommend not sliding items across the table top. Remember, the finish is still a little fragile and can easily scratch until it has completely cured.
@@heidykatheryn8279 You’re welcome!😊 To fix the drip, wait until it’s dry, then use vey fine sandpaper (I like 320 grit) to sand out the drip before applying your next coat of Gator Hide.
In my experience, I have only had Gator Hide yellow on light colored paint when the tannins (oils) from the wood comes to the surface or when the piece wasn’t cleaned well. To prevent the tannins from bleeding through, use a stain blocking primer (I like Dixie Belle BOSS) after cleaning thoroughly (I use Dixie Belle White Lightning cleaner). Tip - always rinse with clear water after cleaning. If your Gator Hide has yellowed, scuff sand, apply a stain blocking primer, then repaint and seal again with Gator Hide.
@@creatingatclassiccottageThank you. I did clean very well I also did 3coats of dixie bell paint let dry overnight before applying the gatorhide. This was to be a Christmas gift but I'm not sure I can get it finished in time starting over. The only thing I didn't do was prime so I'll try that. Thanks again
You’re welcome. The primer should make a difference. If you use Dixie Belle BOSS to prime, be sure to follow the dry time instructions on the jar as it needs to dry overnight for best results. Also, keep in mind that full cure time is 30 days after applying the last product. Gentle use is fine before the 30 days, but heavy use is best after it’s fully cured. I hope this helps. Have a wonderful Christmas!

I’m aware it will fully cure in 30 days however if it’s a dressing table, can I put things on top of it before the 30 days?

Hello, thank you for answering my question, I just did my first coat of gator hide and I found a drip that it’s almost dry, what can I do to fix it?

Oh, and more more thought. When applying Gator Hide, thin, even coats are much better than thick coats.
