    Thank you, Miss Catherine. I'm a single male. I love home cooking but like it quick. So I adapt your recipes to my Instant Pot. The ground beef stroganoff was beyond belief. Next I'm doing your tuna noodle casserole since I've learned the pasta to liquid ratio in the IP. Then, I'm going to try these potatoes. Thank you for all the fun, and for the wonderful deliciousness. 🙂

    I love homemade au gratin potatoes.
    When I was first married we could not afford a lot so I put hamburger and either au gratin or scalped potatoes together as a meal.
    And we had so much left overs for lunch on the weekend, or weeknight that was always fun to make.
    And I use to make this upside down Barry cake that was so easy and cheep.
    We had a mulberry tree in the backyard.
    So I'd pick them for an hour and my husband loved my cooking.
    Good food we can't go wrong on at all with our family.
    And it was so much better the exspenceve fast food.
    God bless you all and I sure enjoyed this ❤️.
    Can't wait to see the next episode.

      Recipes like Catherine’s have been on southern tables for years and are our comfort foods. I enjoy watching Catherine for several reasons: She always has a smile when she greets her audience, unlike some YT cooks she doesn’t scream. She always uses a calm voice while showing the viewers how to make the dish, her recipes are not complicated and do not require exotic foods or spices, she presents herself on camera as though she has trained professionally (perhaps she has), she gives options for foods in the recipe that her family does not like, and she includes her husband in tasting the food. I could go on and on-can you tell that I enjoy her show?

I first tasted it when my new neighbours moved to ontario from PEI I would go next door and I smelled the mom making this incredible dish then she gave me some being 🇯🇲 in 🇨🇦 this blew me away begged mom to make it and she'd say that is for white people 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 well I told my mom I'm white on Thursdays from now on 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. I am in my late 70s and I enjoy watching your show. The majority of recipes you make, I have been using for years, but I enjoy watching your technique and have learned from some of your hints and utensils. As a young bride many years ago, I bought a Betty Crocker Cooking for Two cookbook. As I prepared dishes, my husband would tell me liked it ,but if I added this or that or omitted something, he would like it better. For almost sixty years, I developed family favorites by listening to suggestions. BTW, when Emeril was first introduced on the Food Network, I would try some of his dishes, which my husband did NOT like. He would tell people that I was a good cook until I started watching the Food Network. One day he saw me watching Paula Deen. He said, “She is making the same recipes that you made for years. Please quit watching the Food Network and start cooking the way you used to.” I did, and the entire family was happy.

    It’s kind of funny cause I make scalloped/au gratin potatoes exactly how my mother did…which is not like how anything I’ve ever seen in a YT video, or cookbook…they taste good to me, cause that’s what I grew up on. There was no rue. She sliced the potatoes, sliced the onions, grated some cheese (if we had some, if not, it was without cheese, which I think is the difference between scalloped and au gratin) and then she would layer the potatoes, onions and cheese, in a greased baking dish, and then lightly sprinkle flour over it, then put in little chunks of butter all over, a little salt and pepper…lather, rinse, repeat. Then she would pour milk (2% is always what she bought) until the casserole dish was full, cover it with foil, and bake. I make it the same way…my husband and step-son don’t care for it because the flour and the cheese sort of glom up in separate sections…to me, it tastes just like its supposed to, lol. From watching many videos, including yours, I can see the benefit of a roux…and…I’ll try it…but, it’s hard to break the tradition of one of your favorite comfort foods, that was always a treat, and make it the same way. I think it tastes great…if I put it on UA-cam, people would probably be screaming…make a roux!!!!!! Lol…hubby can make them his own way if he wants…but he did make me his most excellent pot roast tonight, so, I will give the ‘how you really make au gratin potatoes recipe’ a try, see if he likes them (and me, too…but even tho my mom’s are a little weird, they taste fantastic). Yours looks excellent. Your family is so lucky to have such a great cook!

    • @CatherinesPlates
      @CatherinesPlates  3 роки тому +2

      Thank you so much for sharing a memory. It's funny but some people will only cook things one way and will fight tooth and nail against anything different. I'm trying to show different ways for different recipes. So there is nothing wrong with the way you make them.

    • @mollymollie6048
      @mollymollie6048 3 роки тому

      @@CatherinesPlates I agree! I actually do like to learn new things and new ways of making food, like your hamburger gravy (which was excellent) and that I never would have thought of. I will fight tooth and nail that my mother’s Chestnut Stuffing for Thanksgiving is the best stuffing ever, and I make it every year…I’ll die on that battlefield, lol! I am very open to trying new stuff, but sometimes, you just want that weird comfort food from when you were a kid, and that’s ok. I love how you always give great recipes with substitution ideas (or just leave it out) and that is a fantastic teaching skill. Give people a model to follow, then, let them get creative with their own cooking and change things up a bit to fit their pallete, or experiment. That’s the fantastic thing that I love about cooking, is how creative you can be. Love your channel, so glad I found you! Keep cooking! ☺️

    I make scalloped potatoes a lot, but I haven't done augratin. I will definitely try yours. How do you make scalloped ones? I just want to compare either mine! Thank you!

      Scalloped potatoes would be with no cheese. Make the roux just don't add the cheese. Thanks for watching.

      @@CatherinesPlates thanks. I usually do the scalloped with the milk, flour, etc., and I just add a little bit of grated cheese. You can't even taste it. So, that's the difference in the two ways. I'll be making your augratin very soon.
