Hi Spencer! Is it possible not to remember how to do mixed voice by stopping practicing? :( I stopped practicing in this quarantine and now i have issues with my mix. Now im struggling with my high notes. :( hope you are okay ♥ !!! (Sorry for my english i am from mexico.
Hi Angela, mix voice is a coordination that most of us have to train into our body. So when you stop training, your voice may lose conditioning and eventually you may forget some of the muscle memory involved. Were you studying and practicing how to sing mix voice before this?
I'm a girl, and even with a mixed voice I can only hit a C5 which seems really low compared to other high notes female singers can hit. Is it possible to increase my vocal range to the point where I can hit like a G5 or am I screwed
I don’t know your voice so I can’t comment, but all my female students (even those with the deepest voices) vocalize at least up to G5. Most much higher. Can you sing in head voice?
stephanie felycia Yes they can 😊 What do you find is happening right now in your middle to upper range? Does you voice get thin, weak and airy? Or does it get louder and heavy?
I would have to hear you to know for sure, but if you are getting louder on your higher notes, you could be bringing up too much chest voice and getting too heavy. For right now, focus on trying to keep all the notes in your exercises the same volume or even allow your higher notes to be softer temporarily. This can give your mix voice the chance to develop.
I'm a 13 year old girl who in sop 1 but I can't seem to sing for very long at high notes and get that ringing in my head and lightheadedness after a while that should happen if I do it properly. I also think I'm using my throat to sing because it usually gets sore pretty fast. Do you have any advice on what I should do? I also enjoy your videos a lot!
Hi Anika, if your voice is getting sore quickly when you sing, you should get help from a vocal coach. It's not something you want to ignore if you plan to be singing a lot in the years to come. If you don't already have a vocal coach, you can book a 20-min trial lesson with my associate at my studio here: www.spencerwelch.com/ko-trial-lesson Or you can sign up for my new program SINGING IGNITION where I listen to your recorded voice and open up a singing program personalized for you: www.singingignition.com I'm glad you're enjoying my videos! :)
Hello can you help me i can sing high notes but like only with my threat voice, and like every time i try to sing in my head voice it comes as a falsetto what should i do
Unfortunately, I can't determine what might be happening in your voice without hearing you and working with you in a lesson. Otherwise, I would just be guessing. You are welcome to book a lesson with me: www.spencerwelch.com/lessons/book-now/ Or you can book a trial lesson with my studio here: www.spencerwelch.com/ko-vocal-studio Or you can join my program SINGING IGNITION where you can upload a recording of your voice, and I will design a singing program for you: www.singingignition.com
i really needed this, i do have a mix, however i can only really sing upto a C#5 in my mix if i try going even a semitone higher i automatically flip into head voice or crack. my head voice lacks support, however the tone is decent upto G#5. i would really like to mix upto a F5. my vocal type is somewhere between a lower sitting saprano and a high sitting mezzo, my lows have support down to G3 with decent tonality down to F3. is there something you would suggest so that i can mix higher?
Since everyone is different, there could be a few different reasons why this is happening. I'd have to hear you and work with you in a lesson to know how to guide you. If you're interested in more personalized training, you can book a lesson with me here: www.spencerwelch.com/lessons/book-now/
@@SpencerWelchVocalStudio oh, yes. I can do the tongue trills. Sometimes I do both the tongue and lip together becausd the tongue seems to help the lip trill work.
Because I can't hear you and don't know your voice, I can't say if you're doing something wrong. It is common for head voice to sound a little like falsetto at first when it is weak and undeveloped, but perhaps there are things you could do to improve your high notes to make them clearer. If you would like to get personal guidance about your voice, you can book a 20-min trial lesson at my studio here: www.spencerwelch.com/ko-trial-lesson Or you can sign up for my new program SINGING IGNITION where I listen to your recorded voice and choose a singing program personalized for you: www.singingignition.com
@@SpencerWelchVocalStudio Thank you for the quick response, maybe it's because my head voice is not developed enough, when I first started doing your exercises, lower notes sounded like falsetto to me, but now they sound like my natural voice
Thank you so much for this workout. I still haven’t mastered my mix voice like I want too. With the exercises I can do it, but when singing an actual song and I start to go higher it just looses the sound and texture and goes light and weaker. Not the same voice. My range seems to have dropped over the years and I am struggling to hit high notes like I use too. Me and my husband sing with out three children in a southern gospel group and I can tell I just can’t reach my part like I use to and it is very discouraging. I am 60 years old and we don’t get to get together to practice as much since they all got married, like we did when they were kids and was with us all the time. Is there another vocal workout for women that could help me get my range back?
I can't say for sure what's going on in your voice without working with you in a lesson, but it sounds like your higher notes are getting lost because your chest voice is getting weaker. Are your lower notes sounding full and clear similar to your speaking voice? Or are your lower notes strong, but then your voice breaks or flips into that light, breathy sound for the higher notes?
Spencer Welch Vocal Studio my lower notes are strong and clear with full control. But my higher notes flip and go weak. I am really working to develop my mixed voice to help me with this. But just can’t reach the notes and keep the high notes sounding as full and strong as my low notes.
Oh ok, I understand. That's a great question. A vocal exercise is like a weight at the gym. Using it doesn't guarantee that you will get stronger. Unless you use it correctly. So sing along with these exercises, but also pay attention to how you sing them. If you don't mind saying, what are you trying to improve in your voice?
I'd have to hear you and work with you in a lesson to see what's going on. There can be many reasons why this can happen, from technical approach to vocal health issues. Feel free to book a lesson with me here: www.spencerwelch.com/lessons/book-now/ Or if budget is a concern, you can book a 20-minute trial lesson with my associate teacher for only $15: www.spencerwelch.com/ko-trial-lesson
Of course, you can do what you want, but unless you're a true alto (which is pretty rare) your high range is probably limited because you don't spend enough time up in your head voice and mix voice. Most women are some kind of soprano, but if they only develop their chest voice, they are only using 1/3 of their voice. Of course, I would have to hear you and work with you to know for sure, but my suggestion would be to try singing along with this video and drop out whenever it gets far too high. Then come back in when it comes back into your range. But first, push yourself just a little to attempt notes that you usually don't sing in songs. The only way to grow is to take yourself out of your comfort zone.
Hey, thanks for your answer. I am an alto, yes. Don't know, how low I can sing, but lower than a D3. I tried the female exercises, but I had to quit at the beginning of that 2nd passage and get again into it, when it becomes lower. I know I have to train my upper voice, but ... uuuhhh that hurted today, cause I have to keep my mouth closed :-)
Ah I see. Well, definitely don't do anything that will hurt your voice. There is a way to develop your upper range that shouldn't irritate the vocal cords. If you have a heavier voice, you might want to work on this under the tutelage of an experienced voice teacher so they can tailor your workout to the exercises and the keys that you need. Like I mentioned before the authentic alto voice type is quite rare (I've taught only 11 in 25 years!) but whatever your voice type is, if you can sing down to a D3 and lower, you have some nice thickness in the voice. It's important to learn how to stretch and thin that out in your upper registers to balance out and fully develop your voice :)
I started to practise with a vocal coach when I was 15, I sang in many bands, in a choir and I started now again after a break of two years. Feels like I am a newbee, and I think though I'm 43 years old, I have so much more to learn about my instrument :-) So thanks for your support.

Hi Spencer! Is it possible not to remember how to do mixed voice by stopping practicing? :( I stopped practicing in this quarantine and now i have issues with my mix. Now im struggling with my high notes. :(
hope you are okay ♥ !!! (Sorry for my english i am from mexico.
Hi Angela, mix voice is a coordination that most of us have to train into our body. So when you stop training, your voice may lose conditioning and eventually you may forget some of the muscle memory involved. Were you studying and practicing how to sing mix voice before this?
This was so helpful! Thank you! :-)
I'm so glad!
This is awesome!
Nice💙..Thank you♡
My pleasure! What would you like to improve in your voice?
Hi, I just started using these vocal exercises and I want to know, how many times a day would you recommend that I do these warmups?
I recommend you do it once per day 4-6 days per week. If you want to do it more, split it up and do it once in the morning and once later in the day.
Thank you so much for that! This is a great workout for my voice!!!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it. What style of music do you sing?
@@SpencerWelchVocalStudio I sing pop songs and I also love musicals. ☺️
Spencer, i don't have my mixed voice yet, can these exercises build my mix voice? or do these only strengthen the existing mixed voice?
stephanie felycia Yes they can 😊 What do you find is happening right now in your middle to upper range? Does you voice get thin, weak and airy? Or does it get louder and heavy?
@@SpencerWelchVocalStudio my voice gets loud but i'm not sure if it's thin/heavy.. it just breaks easily
@@SpencerWelchVocalStudio for now im keeping my high notes soft. Thank u sm for your advice sir. God bless u
If you don't already have a vocal coach, you can book a 20-min trial lesson with my associate at my studio here:

I thoroughly enjoyed this😅
i really needed this, i do have a mix, however i can only really sing upto a C#5 in my mix if i try going even a semitone higher i automatically flip into head voice or crack. my head voice lacks support, however the tone is decent upto G#5. i would really like to mix upto a F5. my vocal type is somewhere between a lower sitting saprano and a high sitting mezzo, my lows have support down to G3 with decent tonality down to F3. is there something you would suggest so that i can mix higher?
Since everyone is different, there could be a few different reasons why this is happening. I'd have to hear you and work with you in a lesson to know how to guide you. If you're interested in more personalized training, you can book a lesson with me here:
www.spencerwelch.com/lessons/book-now/
I have a hard time doing the lip trills. It might be because I have braces.
I have students that couldn't do lip trills while they had braces. Are you able to do a tongue trill?
@@SpencerWelchVocalStudio oh, yes. I can do the tongue trills. Sometimes I do both the tongue and lip together becausd the tongue seems to help the lip trill work.
Bea-polar Bear Great, then use the tongue trill or both together!
My head voice in the high notes sounds like falsetto, i'm doing something wrong?
Because I can't hear you and don't know your voice, I can't say if you're doing something wrong. It is common for head voice to sound a little like falsetto at first when it is weak and undeveloped, but perhaps there are things you could do to improve your high notes to make them clearer.

@@SpencerWelchVocalStudio Thank you for the quick response, maybe it's because my head voice is not developed enough, when I first started doing your exercises, lower notes sounded like falsetto to me, but now they sound like my natural voice
Ah ok, yes, that's definitely one of the possibilities

Many many thanks! What are you working on vocally?
Am I gonna get better at singing just using this vocal exercise?
That's a great question. A vocal exercise is like a weight at the gym. Using it doesn't guarantee that you will get stronger. Unless you use it correctly. So sing along with these exercises, but also pay attention to how you sing them.

There are transitions in the voice so I'm referring to the second one
Hi. Thank you very much for taking the time to answer. I'm finding the exercises very helpful indeed.
Still feel like I’m flipping from a strong chest to light head voice rather then a gradual mix🙄🙄

this hurts my voice and I notice a lot of phlegm in my throat as I'm doing these exercises, is that normal?
You should never pain when singing so you probably are doing it wrong
Uuuhhh, for me as a woman this is much too high :-o Mind if I do the exercises for guys? :-)
