Painting Walls with a Paint Sprayer

- Three months ago we moved into this small rental house, and I have painted every wall with the Home Right Finish Max Super paint sprayer. This video shares about the process I use to quickly and easily paint a room in just an hour.
Here is the direct link to the sprayer I use: amzn.to/2gD578a
I've been sharing regularly on my Instagram Stories (@livefreemiranda) about painting, moving, and settling into our rental house. I was surprised so many people have never painted a wall. For years I painted with a roller, and since discovering the sprayer I won't go back! It sprays so evenly, nicely, and quickly!
I'm a totally amateur painter, DIY-er, and know that there are lots of ways to approach this project. This video is meant for beginners and new sprayer users who want to learn some basics and hear a detailed explanation of the process.
Happy Painting!
I have the same sprayer and love it! You are very informative about the product and your tactics. Saves so much paint! I don't want to be one of those "haters" but just wanted to give you a few tips that I learned over the year of spraying my whole house. So the tiger-stripes that you're getting is why it takes a lot longer. If you use the roller (+) and (-) switch, and maybe try the different fan tips, start from spraying a practice piece about 10" away and slowly add material until you can keep painting with 1/3 overlap with zero tiger-stripes and also not so much that it splatters on the sides. If its splattering then slightly thinning maybe 10% will help tremendously! Also, definitely purchase those $.99 test spouts where you pour in your paint and count how many seconds it takes to drain. Then you will be spraying the perfect viscosity and won't have to make several passes. One I got mine dialed in I just did 1 coat with 1/3 overlap and I like the super white and when sprayed on previous white it was a breeze. Took 10 minutes to paint a room compared to an hour! Hope I don't sound negative, just want you to love your machine even more! Keep up the awesome work and attitude! God bless.
Thank you so much for this video my wife and I just purchased our first house and we wanted to explore paint spraying BRAVO thanks again!!
Proffessional Painter here, the reason you don't ever "Spray walls" the way you did is because it leaves no texture. When we do use guns to shoot walls we also have a guy followup with a roller right behind us (while its wet) so the wall gets the roller texture. Why absolutely give the walls texture? Because sooner or later there will be repairs/touchups/etc. You can't make those go unnoticed if there's zero texture on the wall. Not only that, a pro would never use a pot gun to spray walls...
Thank you for this video. You have some people on here that are just nasty, can't spell and have to comment on your talking 'TOO' much, ( that is a spelling lesson for one of you), and / or think we want to see their profile pic that says, ' I just got out of bed and this is what a duck looks like!' They forget that they don't have to watch this video if they don't want to hear your explanation on how this is done. Yet, they'll be the first ones asking how to do this or that or never figure it out at all. I appreciate everything you covered and I will be purchasing this paint sprayer with little to no questions as you covered it all. Thank you, great video!
Hey this was a really good, simple how-to video.
Read thru the other comments. Wow...incredible. There are lots of judgmental, hateful and sarcastic people out there. Either watch or don't watch. I clicked on the names of judgemental commenters and they don't make any videos.
You keep going and do your videos, your way!
Great personality. Not sure if its the camera, but I can see some flashing on the walls. Flat paint has a propensity toward flashing. This likely because the HomeRight is an HVLP sprayer, which is better suited for cabinets and furniture where you want a fine finish and are spraying a thinner product. For walls and ceilings an airless sprayer would work better because it puts out a higher volume of paint and affords greater coverage. I've used both in my DIY adventures and found this to be true.
Good video, encouraging and helpful. I love the white room.
I liked your style and gave me a feeling that spraying wouldn/t be magic or too difficult for me as a home owner to do. thank you, I would like to see a video of the actuall spraying, especially in the corner how to avoid overdspray.
Helpful but I'm thinking at that pace - rolling it might be faster or even.
A bandana does not remove paint fumes! When painting indoors, always use a high-quality respirator (not a dust mask). Also, as others have said, you are painting too close to the wall--you should be at least 6" to 12" from the wall, with 50% or more overlap on each pass to prevent the banding you experienced.
Question, at 7:24 it shows you putting the suction tube on. Shouldn't that be twisted on the other way, meaning 180° from the way you did it so that when you're tilting the gun downwards like you would do for most projects, that it sucks up paint and not air? Thanks for the video, how's the paint gun holding up.
You need to back roll that for sure! It is not even at all.
Run water through it till it's clear then take it apart and clean it like you do.
I have been investigating how to paint the inside of my house and what to use...even spoke to the people that make the sprayer you use on the video. I think this was an excellent video and just ignore those that think you talk to much...how would you explain why you were doing what you were doing..or help us beginners. Excellent video...and very informative. Those that say to use another sprayer down below ignore the fact that this spray is high volume, low pressure making in easier on beginners and to control volume on painting. I am going to subscribe.
Hey thank you Blair!
You should spray about 12/14 inches from the wall that way you wouldn’t get that striping effect
Also a much quicker and easier way would be to use a shield instead of all that taping and brushing the edges
Seriously I could spray out that room in 15 min and less for the 2nd coat.
Mind you I use a pressure pot as opposed to electric/airless !!!
I have never spray painted before & my whole house needs painted (due to mobility i haven't done it)
Is this easy enough to do as a total novice & can it be done in sections ok without looking blotchy etc.
Any suggestions on cheap ones for personal use & tips please.
Steve Walsh where could you buy a shield? Are there different shields for different paint guns?
I'm about to paint my bedroom for the first time using latex semigloss. Dimensions are approximately 18'(W)x15'(L)x10'(H). What is a paint shield? I'm not looking forward to all of the taping.
sir can i use air less sprayer for latex paint ( concrete walls paints ) ?
Thanks for all the insight. I appreciate the time you took to make this video and to share all your experience about this subject. 😊
Thank you for explaining how to use the vertical and horizontal knob,it was very confusing for me.
How many times did you have to fill the container before the room was done?
Thanks for taking the time out to share I don't normally comment but I enjoyed you video and it's was helpdul.😀
I'm so glad! Thank you for the kind comment!
Great video! Thanks for taking the time to do this.
I love this sprayer, but for furniture pieces or cabinets etc. For an extra $200, you can get a great DIY level Graco for this type of application.
Presumably if your nozzle is horizontal you motion should be vertical. For quicker and even coverage.
You're right! The motion + nozzle are opposites.
Does it leave a lot of overspray on the floor when painting walls or ceiling? Just wonder, because you didn't mask window ( frame & glass) when painting..?
Great job! I will be buying that sprayer...
Looks great !!! Bright and clean !
You did an amazing job!! My house is that same ugly yellow color. I just got a paint sprayer, I am so excited to start spraying 💩...
Thank you so much for your helpful video! Lots of very good info. It helped me a lot.
9:00 before the paint starts...for about a 30 seconds...good luck.
One of the best reviews on these $100 amazon motor on sprayer spray guns. Rollers and brushes are always messy. Hope to get more efficiency. Thanks!
Good to see a well used sprayer. Didn't really see why you needed to cut in. Isn't that why we use the sprayer? To avoid the tedious cutting in?
not sure why you would use a brush if you are spraying in which you would normally mask off.
Thank you! Great tips!
Miranda...I subscribed and made comment about your channel...it convinced me to buy the same sprayer...but sure wish you would do a video doing a ceiling.....
Any tips on painting a ceiling please
Hey, Regardless of the outcome your bright happy excited exuberant presentation makes me want to see your finished work and definitely believe youI After watching you the dread of paining an entire (interior) of a house not so dreaded! or :) About to start paining a house with a new Wagner airless sprayer, so your video really helped! Great video presents and presentation! Thanks for sharing!
Amazing! Thank you! Good luck on your painting. It can be pretty fun!
That's so hot how fired up you are about painting that room! Love the prep too get it chick!!!
I go to Paint life TV for a lot of my Tips and Tricks this guy is a Professional Painter LOTS of EXPERIENCE over a Decade.
Awesome video! Thank you for posting and explaining how the air painter works. Subscribed.
1:43 wow!!! she’s flexible!!!
You people are....... Thanks Miranda for share
Wow, you painted that room fast! Thank you for sharing your experience with the paint sprayer. The bedroom looks great with a fresh coat of paint!
Feels so good!
Excellent but I would use a roller with a little paint on it to even out the spray .
great vid miranda. not sure it was covered but how's cleanup if you plan on using a couple different colors for different rooms? can you use the same paint sprayer canister? if so how can you clean out the old paint?
Thanks for sharing your painting experience. Can you say why you preferred the red nozzle, and what are the other nozzle options and how they work? Bless you!
God of the Bible Speaks it's not the nozzle, it's the spray tip that is important.... Different tips spray different spray pattern
Is that better than using paint roller?
You don’t add water to thin the colour?
Tip for the future: ALWAYS remove the plates on the switches and outlets, and then MASK off the switch and outlet . Why? because at some point the switch will eventually fail and need to be replaced. When the plates is "painted on" removing them without damaging the paint is almost impossible. Also, if you ever decide to change the plates, the new choice MUST be larger than the original plate, otherwise you will see the "ols" paint around the switch plate. ..And as an electrical engineer I guarantee that it is a bad idea to spray paint into an electrical outlet.
Have you had any issues with the paint sprayer spraying out a weird, grainy look texture? Or does it seem to have a nice smooth finish?
Using the paint lid as a pot doesn't seem like a good idea at all. It carries a tiny amount of paint, has nowhere to hold it and leaves your main paint uncovered. If you're cutting in, get an empty can or dedicated plastic paint pot, load your brush half up with paint, knock off the outside excess and just pull the paint out from the middle of your brush to give a nice line. Half the time you won't even need to tape first. Also a mask or respirator is probably a good idea when you're spraying, the furniture has more protection than your lungs. It would have been nice to see how quick the sprayer was compared to rolling or a comparison of the finish.
Great video. Just what I was looking for and really well explained. Ignore the moaners.
Great job! Good pointers, keep up good work. Cant find how to’s like this from a ‘regular’ person (vs commercial businesses). They provide good info, but i need to know what us ‘regular’ folks, who seldom paint, need to be aware of.
how you check the thickness of the paint.?
Very great video , very positive and brilliant,
surely I subscribed 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Nice job. ☺
Do you use more paint with a sprayer?
Stellar video! Thanks!!
So cute and bubbly! Thanks
After you spray back roll and see the difference
Thanks for all the details covering every step of your workflow!
Nice video. Very informative. Thank you!
Very good video. Thank you for all the great info!!! Let the haters hate I bet not a damn one has any good videos or subscribers at all. Keep it goin!!!
Thanks for the insight! Your video will help painting our walls easier!
Nice job

How do You paint to the top of the walls, do You use a step ladder
How do You paint the ceiling
Great help. Thanks for taking the time. Good tips
Nice job!
Good video! Thank you
How can i buy this spray in India
Good, but use Graco Truecoat. Time & labour both will be saved.
Thanks so much for this helpful timely video! The hardest part is starting ... now I know how to proceed with my project! 👍🏽🤗 ... p.s. I personally loved your music & you talking through the process! Keep doing what you love 💗 & appreciate you taking the time to share! 😀
Thank you! I totally am a talker...and that is also how I personally love to learn!
Miranda, it was fun to meet you today at Cub Skills at Day Camp! I am still a little "star struck" haha. Thanks for all your videos!!
Nice to meet you, too!
can you tell me how much price are..
Would have been more helpful if you used a darker paint so we could have seen how effective the coverage
Thanks sis this was very helpful, I have a major paint job coming up!!!
this was great! thanks!
Could roll and cut in faster than that machine and that brush is useless ........and with less cover up.....that machine is for trim, I have one....and get a real brush, those throw aways dont hold enough paint......
I understand this is for diy......painting is pretty straight forward.....but rolling and cutting in is faster for this application and your still cutting in anyway......
Need help, I'm looking to spray my daughters bedroom but she wants glitter walls, anybody know of a spray gun that's good with dry flake glitter,,
i really needed this thank you 🤗💖
Suggestion: next time, please show more of the room as you speak so the work is the actual focal point. You might want to get a tripod for your phone or camera so the viewers can see well. Great job though!
10:20 If that's 10 to 15 inches I am a Donkey Kong and Super Mario altogether.
great video thank you
Great video 👍
It seems your nozzle is about 4 inches from the wall, not 12 to 18 inches.
Thanks for your video! I just finished paint/spraying my bathroom cabinets with the Homeright sprayer, but this one you mention is a different version. I'm guessing I can't just buy a new nozzle to go on my fine finish Homeright sprayer. Darn!
thanks, it helped alot
Thank you
Perfect amount of talking and instructional demonstration. Good job!
What’s with the loud music? Is it really necessary?
With a sprayer you should be able to finish a room in 10 - 15 minutes
to much talk and less action
Ana Mendez, and more action?
wow
Don't try this at home....so wrong on so many levels.
I have had amazing results using this sprayer on many projects! My rooms look great, DIY painted kitchen cabinets are incredible, and I am excited to continue using this simple sprayer for my work around home.
Care to elaborate a bit?
Try a professional sprayer it's much faster and more efficient and powerful. You can rent them at a home improvement store.
I have considered that, however this is so great for a beginner and small, simple jobs, and I love owning it so I can use it whenever I need to!
Is a professional sprayer ok for a beginner like me?
Thanks, a great tutorial: Alfred - Australia.
What paint did you say your using
Emerald Interior Latex from Sherwin Williams
Great video work! Be careful when painting receptacles and light switches. Don’t want to see you get hurt!😉
She should have her own show!
You should get that room finished by 2019
This lady doesn’t know about over spray. She should have masked (covered up) EVERYTHING that she didn’t want paint on!!!!! Doors windows and ceiling.
She would be much much better off using a paint roller.
Actually a paint roller is much faster.
I hope her landlord received a deposit large enough to repaint and repair the damage she has done.
Number one thing you do is get your landlord’s permission to repaint.
