  • Back in the Black mountains Wild camping again this week with ‪@Linleys‬
    This time we set our sights on a camp on the mountain peak, at the highest point.
    and yes, I nearly fell off the mountain!
    A beautiful day in the Brecon Beacons turned into a rough night, with wind and rain hammering the tents as well as the bitterly cold wind.
    I really enjoyed this one!
    Links
    Some of the gear I used was sourced from Colin at outdoorgearess...
    Channels of folks we met along the way ‪@PaulMessner‬ and ‪@holmesaway‬

      @greekf I've not had the vents open much to he honest, I tend to forget they're there. I've not had any condensation issues though. I think the mesh inner helps with keeping it away.

    1) You cant build this tent if you dont have solid ground like here. If you dont use pins, you are *ucked.
    2) You cant make a good tension so if there is a wind, its *ucking noisy.
    I wanted to burn it and jump off the cliff when building it on top of Piton Des Naiges.
    If you like noise, stupid long setup and a chance, you will not be able to build it at all, this one is for you.

    How did you manage to get a hole in your Akto?

    • @CampLifeBushcraft
      @CampLifeBushcraft  10 місяців тому

      I originally bought it 3rd hand. I believe it's 10 years old at least.
      The material has frayed where the little hood meets the fly and it tore open on a windy camp during the summer. It's a tiny hole, but water can get in.

    Beautiful views up there, away from the crowds…..apart from Paul🤗. 🇦🇺 A spot of colder weather would be nice over here😊⛺️🏔️. Had to get out my XL DD tarp the other day, the waterproof coating had gone all sticky & welded itself together😡. When I got it opened out there were spots & patches where there was no waterproofing 😑. I’ve never used bug spray near it either😑. I’ll get some silicone waterproofing spray and treat it but I’m not overly happy…….

    Beautiful! ...and looked a bit challenging in places! Really enjoyed watching the sheer delight of the cake and custard. I've never bothered taking dessert along on a camp but I think Warren's slowly winning me over to the merits of that.
    Was that late October? (Guessing from when you said sunset was.) The weather seemed very wintery in places! I've been trying to think where to go for my next camp, and would love to get back to the Brecon Beacons (haven't camped there since I was a teenager) but have to admit although the first half of your video really encouraged me, the second half gave me pause for thought! Maybe I should wait until spring now...

    • @CampLifeBushcraft
      @CampLifeBushcraft  10 місяців тому +1

      The pudding routine Warren has developed is such a welcome treat after a hard day and fighting the cold. it does wonders for the mental state.
      It was the week before the clocks changed.. and it was cold in the wind, especially so once we'd lost the sun.
      South Wales is lovely, but very changeable in terms of weather. even in the summer it can be miserable up high.
      full wet gear and cold weather gear is a must, all year in my opinion.
      During the winter though it can be very challenging. But it's so beautiful!
      Thank you for sitting through it. And for the mention in your 1000k video. Nice of you : )
