my robens small dreamer held up over 12 years and 500 nights, massive thunderstorms, hail, snow, was drowned in huge puddles, everything. Never leaked. I bought for 120€ in 2010, excellent quality. I wonder why Robens tents get so less credit compared to other big brands, they have some excellent tents, all with great build quality.
So ive bought it, as it was out of stock through the link i looked around and got it for about £250, its now even available for about £225 as its being cleared because the new 2025 model is coming out. Its 99% the same but a light grey looking colour. I bought it because i wanted a tent that had the strength of a 4 season tent just incase i get caught out but the comfort of a ln airy 3 season. So for me this is a true 4 seasons use tent, especially as 90% of the time ill use it in the spring, summer autumn but in places that could get breezy. Great video as ever.
I've had the Robens Starlight 1 for a number of years, had it out in winds varying from 85 to 90mph on the side of a hill, my friends tent collapsed in the wind and after the inner had been removed from the starlight, it literally became a life saver that night. You can't go wrong with any of the Robens kit, in many respects it can and does outshine the more expensive tents ... The only area that really does need more attention is the pegs.
The internal guy lines (if there's more than 2), are most likely for pitching the inner only in good weather and no hurricane conditions. Nice looking tent even with the quirks. Good review fella. 👍
I just picked up another Decathlon MT900 (based off the MSR Elixir 2) for a multi-month bikepack, but am suddenly starting to think this Sprinter could be the tent of all our affordable dreams? Great to see people still pushing design ideas and coming up with the gold.
Just a note of caution - when manufacturers produce these spectacular wind figures, they test the ideal wind direction. When tunnels are hit from the sides, they don't perform as well. Having said that, it's probably pretty respectable - it's just that it wouldn't cope with the extreme winds claimed.
If you watch later in the video you'll see i find out about the inner guy lines. It's so you can set it up inner only in the summer months. And yes side on isn't ideal for a tunnel tent it needs to be head on into the wind.
I Just bought a Robens Nordic Lynx 4. Looks a great tent for a winter base camp. Tested to 155kph. Incidentally, the highest re order windspeeds in the UK was 173mph in 1986 in the Cairngorms

I had the Chaser 2 tent from Robens. I bought it entirely due to their 200kph wind test claims and the third night using it it failed on me in moderate wind (50kph perhaps). Retailer eventually gave me a replacement. I asked Robens for advice on making a strong pitch should I get caught out in strong wind again, using longer pegs, adding more guy lines etc... They're answer was "using the tent in high wind voids the warranty" and refused to comment on my queries or give any advice beyond that. Given I bought it because of their boastful wind test claims, I've now sent it back for a refund. I don't think I will be selling my fjallraven endurance 2 for this one but tbh the Robin's is priced well enough to perhaps buy to try if nothing else, who knows it might be a pleasant surprise.

However, as a bloke the wrong side of fifty I tend to sense who seems trustworthy when watching, the fact that you don't start your vids with "WASSUP UA-cam?" has always been in your favour! Great review but too pricy for me and every time I check the X-Mid price it seems to be a little cheaper. I have absolutely no intention of being on Dartmoor in 120mph winds, but Royal Navy PLX 38 years ago taught me that Dartmoor can be your friend, but sometimes it hates you!
🤣 cheers buddy. At the end of the day without real reviews we'd struggle to know what was good and what wasn't. As I said, otherwise it's just adverts. No one ever wrote in to parkers car guide and said they'd given a good review cos they were said for it but in this day and age of the keyboard warrior any Tom dick or Harry can chuck their two pennies worth in and generally without any real knowledge on the subject. I believe that there will be a few uk suppliers of the x mid soon so keep an eye out 👌👍
200kph wind test 😂😂😂, give over for gods sake.. only some of the 5season extreme exhibition tents will withstand 200kph. I had a Robens tent that were apparently rated to 120kph yet its poles failed at about 60kph whilst pitched perfectly....
Robens don't test their tents in controlled conditions in a wind tunnel. - they do it in a field with what looks like a paraglider motor and a guy holding a wind speed meter. There is no way that tent would withstand 125 mph, it would be shredded. An Expedition Super Quasar, double-poled and half buried in snow might survive, but not much else. ua-cam.com/video/FT4GL2a-OV4/v-deo.html
@russ1747 is a wonderful tunnel real world though? Tested from one angle and indoors? At the end of the day we all measure the wind outdoors with an anenometer the same as they do 🤷🏼♂️
@@NoviceWildCamper Proper wind tunnel tests have the tent on a platform and rotate it. Very few manufacturers do them. The Robens test is not generating a uniform wind on the tent and is not measuring it accurately. You can't stay on your feet above 60 mph and at 125 mph you can't even crawl and are liable to get blown along the ground.
@russ1747 they don't all use a rotating tunnel though. Decathlon do but nordisk don't for example yet show their figures and because it's nordisk no one questions them. At the end of the day I can only report what the manufacturer state without creating 100mph wind to test myself.
How can you class this as a review? Used once on Shartmoor and you give it an honest review, dont make me laugh. Try using the tent for many months in many different weather conditions especially winter. There is no way this tent is surviving over 100mph. This tent isnt even in the same league as a Hilleberg Nammatj.
Alright hilly fan boy 🤣 it's called a review cos I go over the features and actually use it. What you're thinking of is a video titled 'long term review' which you've clearly not seen anywhere on this video. Same as every other 'none long term reivew' out there. So wind it in eh.
@@NoviceWildCamperhis channel can’t be failing if he’s only just started it you sausage everyone has to start somewhere You are the definition of a tosser You going to try that tent in 120mph winds then because I’d absolutely love to see that
Did you even watch the video? If you did then you're just coming across as a bitter and twisted knob tbh... Or you're either blind, deaf or stupid. Maybe all 3, it's hard to tell when reading your comment. Believe it or not but Mike doesn't have the power to control the weather and make it pour down at the snap of his fingers. He was loaned the tent for one day only. He passed on all the information about the tent very clearly and professionally. And 99% of the people commenting have said how great the review is... The only one complaining is you! Says it all. Why can't someone do an honest review from Dartmoor? No reason at all, it's just more stupidity showing through. What evidence do you have that "there's no way" it will survive "over 100mph"? I'll tell you, NONE! As usual people who shout loudest have the least important thing to say. If you don't like the channel then don't watch, but once again there's the stupidity shining through.

I believe that there will be a few uk suppliers of the x mid soon so keep an eye out 👌👍
@@NoviceWildCamper Valley and Peak retailer seems to stock the x-mid at a reasonable price. worth checking out!
200kph wind test 😂😂😂, give over for gods sake.. only some of the 5season extreme exhibition tents will withstand 200kph. I had a Robens tent that were apparently rated to 120kph yet its poles failed at about 60kph whilst pitched perfectly....
Don't shoot the messenger buddy. Go moan at robens

Ah I see the link now, you and your boyfriend Tom ganging up on me cos you're channel is failing 😂 sad really.
@@NoviceWildCamperhis channel can’t be failing if he’s only just started it you sausage everyone has to start somewhere
You are the definition of a tosser
You going to try that tent in 120mph winds then because I’d absolutely love to see that
Did you even watch the video?
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
funy u are umber 2 that got it from him .cant find ay who made review with it i winther time (:
They only brought it out this summer so no doubt there may be a review after winter.
