Strawberries, weeding, dead heading, Summer maintenance in the cottage garden

  • This week, I had to tackle some messy beds and do some weeding. Also, my first strawberries have ripened! Summer is certainly bursting in the cottage garden this week. I planted a Peony, tried to rescue an Astilbe and did lots of satisfying cleaning up.

Hello - one of your adopted grannies here. US-Florida.
Some of us viewers, a bit older, decided to adopt you as our Catherine grand daughter.
We're so proud of you and your accomplishments.
Your garden is really growing this year, sun flowers and strawberries are huge.
I'm from an area in Florida where they have many strawberry fields, they're beautiful when flowered then fruiting. Plant City, Florida has a Strawberry Festival every year after harvest, parade, celebrations, country fair, concerts and the famous strawberry shortcakes.

Catherine, dear sweet girl! I got my book two minutes ago! I was afraid to open the cover because I so wanted to see your name written there. I knew that wasn’t possible because I ordered it in January and how could I get your autograph. Like I say….you take my breath away! There it was! All pretty in gold! Thank you be on words! it meant the world to me. Now I’m going to sit and look at your book. Thank you for making an old lady happy.❤️👵🏻

I just mowed my 1.75 acre yard. Picked up sticks, and two beers someone lost on the road. Lol hot, no thanks. Fed the birds seed, suet cakes and bird jelly. Fresh water in their bath. Drinking cherry lemonaid and listening to the doves. Ive cleaned out my fridge but have the dishes soaking while i enjoy birdsongs...Happy 4th everyone!!

Good evening, Oh i so look forward to your Sunday gardening vlogs. They bring me such joy. Could you please do a checky little vlog of you in the summer evenings attending your garden. Just a little walk around whilst your watering your plants at the end of the evening. It'll look so lovely with the twinkly lights of your summer house as well. Great video and have a great new week. x

Gardening tip to make watering easy and make your seating area a minimal work space…Buy a second garden hose. Attach it to the spigot, run the hose down the side of the house and behind your pots and then along the fence… move your reel and hose more centrally located in the yard. Turn on the hose when you need to water, no need to move your chairs!! 💖🪴🌸🌻

I have heard that painting stones to resemble strawberries, and then placing them among the plants early in the season, the birds then peck at the stones. Once the berries ripen the birds the assume they are stones and leave them alone. "Yee Haw" from Texas.

A relaxing garden video . Lovely.
I do think you need to get a dustpan and brush and some gardening gloves. Some plants you could get allergic to and if there is a bee or a wasp in the flowers when you are trimming them the wasp might sting you.
You should ask your brother to come over and help you move your pots .
When you moved the pots around In front of the greenhouse then showed us , it looked like you placed Blondie in the picture at the end .

Astilbies do well for us in the pacific northwest. I've always thought of them as more of a shade loving plant. It does look like the leaves are a little sunburned. That might explain why it does well as it comes up in the cool spring and then as the sun gets more intense, it struggles. I'm not much of a gardener but that's my 2 cents worth. Love to eat freshly picked strawberries from the garden. Well we enjoy all our fresh veggies also. Your garden is beautiful. Your new new chair is fitting in the greenhouse. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
