That USA looks like an amateur job to me. Somebody probably saw the Custom Shop version, got a regular Explorer, and customized it themselves. The older serial doesn't mean much if it didn't leave Gibson that way, it was probably just stock for a while before it got the cheese treatment.
I agree, that doesn't really look like a Gibson production. Looks more like something I could do in a weekend, whereas the first one that showed up truly looks professionally done
The “USA” holes are drilled with a forstner bit. That home woodshop stuff, not Gibson. In they’re using CNC already for the body, they would use a flat end mill to make those holes and then the pointed bit wouldn’t show.
I remember seeing this lying around during production when I worked at Gibson. I totally forgot about this thing till just now and it looks just as bad as i remember it back then.
The Chet is a basically a budget version. Made in Korea or Indonesia. The idea was to do entry level versions, originally they came with a headphone amp and book. Could get a similar Zakk guitars at the same time.
The natural custom les paul looks like a guitar belonging to a jazz guy that used to come into the shop I worked at years ago. I'm not sure if it is the same one but I remember it was a custom that he stripped, I remember it had black hardware and a trapeze. I don't specifically remember it having a p-90 though. I'm going to send this to a friend and former colleague to see if he remembers it. I think his might have had a black pickguard on it too. If it's not the same guitar, these two players have very similar taste in ways to butcher a Les Paul custom xD
Love the Zodiac LP ( it'd be cool if they made a ' Zodiac Killer ' LP ' with the cipher code symbols for the inlays ! ), both the Silverburst Customs are beauty-full ... + Thanks Trogly !

Cool guitars tonight. I liked how the USA Swiss cheese model has a few holes that didn't go all the way through, but they needed to sand those semi holes. All of the Adam Jones models flooded the supply of the silverburst. I think the Queen bee Epiphone was just released as well. That vintage custom shop one you showed was really cool.

It educates, informs and makes great viewing. It will also reinforce your reputation for integrity as a seller. Unfortunately it will not increase your popularity with the scammers and charlatans 🤭

I would assume that buying & documenting guitars on a daily show must be more of a challenge now since the resale market has softened. Without a massive credit line and willingness to take risks in a soft market, I guess that the guitars that have been documented need to be sold to make room for new guitars for cash flow. IMHO, Trogly has an interesting show and provides a valuable resource to determine if the guitars he documents would be worth buying.
