33:35 - Conclusion
I was manager at a large music store when these came. It was a really fun time to be selling Gibson! Now the news some collectors probably don't want to hear, I saw Gibson's shipping numbers on every model and popular models weren't limited to 400 they shipped over 1,500 of the reverse "V". Some of the models that weren't selling ( the money bass for one) had a run as small as 200 so the "limited run" was limited to how many they could sell. I know people will argue about this, I'm only passing on what I saw.
Week #45, the missing one was slotted to be the Joan Jett Melody Maker. There were some contract things that needed to be sorted out, but the JJMM was released on its own later on.
I believe you are indeed correct.
@@Maniak206 it would seem it was planned but they ran into issues and didn’t have a “Plan B” ready.
@@Maniak206
Was
No, this is not accurate. We would have never put Joan's guitar into a limited run like this. It was always intended for Joan's MM to stand on its own. It would have been an insult otherwise.
This is the series that got me into Gibson. Just a 17 year old boy, completely awestruck by the brand
Yeah Gibson rules
Yes but there are more rulers the one you can afford just hook it up to nice stompbox and a old from a real school pa tube amp,and dont you dare to stop! Hi5
As a bass player, I appreciate the inclusion of the basses here. Thanks.
What basses do you play? I’m a bass player as well 👍🏻

These “history” lessons are great.
Right! Totally dig this channel man.
Bravo, Austin! This was clearly the result of a LOT of hard work. Terrifically informative, and thoroughly entertaining! Many thanks 👊🙂

Austin is in His House 🏠 of Great Guitars
Trogly’s in the HOUSE!
Welcome Ramiro!!
Greetings Ramiro
Enjoy your bronze medal. You made the podium today. Well done.
Cool show.i dig the fireburst
Thank you for this.
I bought a New Century X-plorer with the carbon fiber pickguard back in 2008 from Best Buy when they had their instruments section. I remember they had this marked as a standard explorer so it was just under $1000. Didnt realize at the time how limited it was.
Is that guitar a black 2007 #36 with a "carbon" top?
I read that the Week #45 guitar was pulled and turned into the Joan Jett signature model Melody Maker?
Now that you mention it - I do vaguely remember that story too
Very interesting episode
I love that fireburst 🔥🔥😍😍
Trogly's in the HOUSE!!!

I enjoy your videos as I am a Les Paul User Myself, Thanks For The Videos Keep Them Coming.
Great content!
Oh boy. This is going to be a good one
You got that right
Yup. Good to see you brother.
It should be noted that GOTW #9 Les Paul Supreme Autumn Burst was specified with a flamed/figured Ebony Fingerboard.
To date this is the only guitar I've ever seen with Figured Ebony.
I did mean to throw that in there, but forgot
@@Trog Have you ever seen Figured Ebony on another Gibson?
Just an FYI, my all-time favorite is week #28 LP Classic Custom. Some day I will own a Custom R4.
Austin, Thank You again for producing this episode, this was really fantastic.
@@hkguitar1984 yeah, you can find it, but it’s not something desired so usually not promoted. You want ebony to be as black as possible. That’s why Taylor gets away with putting ebony in a lot of stuff, they use ebony with the brown streaks.
@@qwertpoiuy430 I understand about the streaked Ebony. The one photo I saw of the GOTW #9 had a jet black ebony fingerboard with jet black flame that was only visible when the light or viewing angle changed.
It was amazing looking.
Back to what you said about the streaked ebony, I'm not really a fan.
I did see a Gibson M2M with a blond ebony fingerboard that was so light it looked like a maple fingerboard!
I look at and read about guitars constantly, I need to get a real life! LOL
@@hkguitar1984 I just saw a few pictures, and I will say I am surprised.
I’ve had multiple ebony guitars, both Gibson and not gibson, and the Gibson ebony is completely smooth, shaved to an almost MOP feel. It seems like the ebony on this one is not as polished, allowing for it to have more wood figuring. I also saw them advertised as curly ebony, so I am at a loss at what they meant. But I can tell you for sure that it is a beauty, I love guitars with no inlays. It allows to show that ebony board even more
I'd love a collection of all of them.
Hey man how are you doing, backpack’s a little bit better today. Thanks for caring!
I've always thought that'd be a cool idea too. Guitar of the Month would be a lot easier to pull off though!
@@Trog guitar history lessons?
@@gieljannoe6404 Good to hear. Back aches and tooth aches, both can be debilitating!
So far so good today. Every episode I Trogly's has me wanting another guitar!
I have the golden goose. Week #41, Nashville LP Junior. Bought used in 2008 from Ishibashi Japan. Had it shipped to Beijing where I was living at the time. It was my first Gibson after being a long time Fender guy. I still have the guitar but rarely take it out of the case because I'm afraid of strumming those prairie flowers off the pick guard! Other than a little bit of wear on one of the flowers it's mint.
Thank you Austin for a fantastic video! Your knowledge of Gibson guitars is unparalleled! You obviously put a lot of work into this presentation! Thanks again!
Definitely have to go with that #43 Explorer because of how much it resembles that Allen Collins Custom. The AC custom goes for $15,000+ whenever they DO get listed for sale, so that GOTW model is absolutely a “close enough” steal.
I don't coment much but I think I should do it more to let you guys know how much we enjoy your channel. I know this is no cake walk and you spend lots of your free time putting it together. I think it's pretty cool that I can see guitars that I would never see outherwise. Again thank you for all your efforts and the kind and considerate way you do this channel. Rock on Brother!
This was a great video..Gibson history and if someone doesn’t tell it it will be gone forever..Thanks Trogley.
Great vid! I was researching about #6 and tried to use wayback machine but had a hard time. This makes it a lot easier.
#37 is a funny one. On top of being a tune-o-matic/stopbar setup, it has the 'incorrect' pickguard when compared to an actual 67 Special - by 67 they were all batwings. As Reissue, this guitar is a big fail (historically speaking). It looks very nice though.
As for the 61 RI Satin, they also made some later in 2012 or so.
Yeah though it looks like the Faded in the guitar of the week have gloss Headstock veneers where the 2012 Fadeds have a satin headstock veneer. The 2012s have more colors though and I think a baked maple fretboard if I am not mistaken, but could be very well rosewood boards.
Thanks Trogly now I know my RD is GOTW #48 always wonderd what week it was 👍👏
This is a great Trogly episode
We Troglodytes desperately need something similar done for 2004! I just bought a 2004 Les Paul Standard Limited in Amber which apparently they made 275 of. There’s so much conflicting info on whether these were just made for GC or not, some have GC on the serial though most do not (mine is a lower serial and yet has not GC on it) , and the list goes on. The classic antique headstock and ebony fretboard sold me on it and was the first year of the burst bucker pros as I recall. Gibson apparently sold so many they just kept on making them and stopped handwriting the out of 275 on the back of the headstock. Definitely a cool period for Gibson and need clarity!!!
Oh man, that black Les Paul Classic Custom is absolutely the LP I would get. Beauty in simplicity
HECK YEAH
I own a Week #25, and you are correct - compared to the other GOTW this is at the bottom of the barrel as far as resale goes BUT have You ever played one?? Whomever decided to pair a P90 with a Ceramic T500 was a GENIUS. The tones from crystal cleans to heavy rock are amazing. My wife bought mine about 10 yrs ago for $700 with Gibson OHSC and all the case candy - Today I see them selling for about $1,400. Doesn't matter - it was gift from my wife, and I wouldn't sell it. And as I said LOVE THE TONE!!
The 61 SG and Zebra wood Firebird caught my eye.
J Mascis toured with a Reverse V for a year or so thats how I found out about them. I still think they are one of the coolest Gibson guitars out there.
I own the #36 Explorer since 2008. They advertised them with "carbon fiber" body pickguard but in reality it is not, it's just transparent plastic with something painted on the back that emulates the carbon fiber. Very disapointed when I found out, but still one of my favorites!
It’s probably a vinyl carbon fiber print sticker behind the clear pick guard..Looks cool though.
The Tom Morgan Art is probably my favorite just for the fact that it reminds me of the album cover to "Songs In The Key Of Life".
I own one, pics don’t do it justice. Plays like a dream and turns heads every time I open the case
The Nashville double cut has haunted me for years. I need that in my life.
That zebra wood thunderbird was my favorite for sure.
Awesome video, really enjoyed seeing the complete lineup, as for my favorite, there is just no way to pick just one. I loved several of them! Thanks for taking the time to put this all together for us! 👍
My favorite is the custom SG with two pickups. Also love the fire burst LP
I have the week 6 Ebony SG. I love it and it looks amazing in person.
Wow, I can't even imagine how much work went into this. This was great, Austin !
My favorite was #4, the Explorer Pro Sunburst.
#5, which you call lavaburst, reminds me of the cover of Stevie Wonder's "Songs in the Key of Life." Love it.
A lot of good info here. Thanks for the effort you put into this!
My guy is uploading so fast I can't keep up with him
That’s the best part of this channel. We get a daily dose of guitar information
+1
Just got an awesome 2005 Epiphone custom shop SG today! I love it so much. Traded an Ibanez RG for it. Dude wanted the RG so bad he drove an hr in a snow storm here in Ohio. I'm sure glad he did. What a trooper!
Awesome rundown, really enjoyable
The amount of history in this episode is amazing! This should have been sponsored by Gibson! Maybe they will work with you and make it a feature on their socials?
17:35 I love the finish on that!!!🤩
Incredible, thank you so much for taking the time to chronicle the series. Man, that's a lot of research and hard work. Bravo!
Awesome video, so many cool and interesting guitars!! For my $$ the two Black Beauty Classic Customs are the cream of this crop!
I have one of the Jazz White SGs - it was my first Gibson. I'd definitely call it a New Century variant - it has the exact same specs including the 490/498 pickups. Just a different finish and pickguard (I love that goofy pickguard, but I can see how some may not like it). The satin white finish is really nice as far as feel goes, and my heavily modded Flying V will be getting the same finish eventually.
But that was the guitar that started my love affair with low-end Gibsons.
Reverse flying V’s can be so comfortable you could sleep with it , but it’s not the comfort everyone is worried about , it’s the look of it. It’s an arrow more than a reverse Flying V , and it’s ugly. That’s just my opinion on it anyway. They could be cheaper than an IYV guitar and I wouldn’t buy one LOL. That’s the Amazon guitar everyone thinks says IVY LOL.
👍👍👍✌️✌️✌️
They live on because of the contraversy…. Mission accomplished
Most disgusting guitar ever. Followed by anything with ESP flag inlays 🤮
Yeah part of the allure of playing guitar is they look cool and therefore make you cooler the reverse Vs are not cool. I agree ugly . If the neck pick up position does something incredibly special keep the thing in the studio lol . I do like the headstock on it though .
Well the rev V sits like a classical guitar quite perfect and less wrist, underarm friction
FANTASTIC Episode Trogly!!
on number 48, it really looked like the photo was black & white or grayscale. seeing it in the case where there was other colors, I finally realized it wasn't. that said, it's an amazing color scheme. it could easily be used as a b&w/grayscale item in a movie or some such, where everything else is in color--like a character from an old movie/show steps into "the real world" - kind of like pleasantville
Nice job on this video, it was very cool to see all of those and hear about them.
The gold top or double cold top custom is already amazing but a gold top supreme?!‽! Thats crazy awesome. Especially gold with a customer appointments like the Gold hardware with the black plastics looks so much better to me than normal gold tops with the Chrome and cream color. Think it could use just a tiny bit more black like maybe black out the knobs and keep the rest of the hardware gold so black pickup rooms and black knobs would be so dope on that I love it
Nice job with this one! I have a week 7 midnight blue Money Bass and I love it, but they do have a very dodgy truss rod and I have to hope mine doesn't move much now as it's no longer adjustable without being replaced. The T-Bird+ pickups in it (and other Les Paul and ES-335 basses) are really hot but they do sound really big though a good bass tube amp.
This is great work! Thank you for documenting this.
Excellent work Trogly!
Thanks Trogly, another fantastic video. Great information as usual!!!
The black LP with P-90s was nice, looked like it could rip!!!🤘🎸
Love your channel man! I saw your other video and your collection is absolutely beautiful! These are some beautiful guitars you're showing us pictures of as well!
I love how you go through all the specs and take the guitars apart to show us the guts of them on your normal videos. Cool videos man! I'm a fan for sure!

I love that autumn burst les
This is a perfect example of why I love this channel, great information on the things I love, thanks.
Great forensic work!!!
You are making me a Gibson historian.
Just starting the video super stoked!
I own week #34 Antique Vintage Sunburst LP Standard. Love the resonant sound. Feels great. My #1.
Beautiful guitars and I would love to own them all.
Week #33 is my baby. Still mint, not selling it. I got it from Guitar Center in Hollywood, CA. For my birthday in 2008. It was the last one they had and negotiated a good price cut. Very happy with it.
So happy you put this vid together.
This was great and very informative. Thanks
I love the Les Paul Classic Antique Fireburst. The colors are awesome❣
You got to admire Troglys singular focus an every little differnt detail about Each Gibson! There needs to be a stratocaster channel like this channel! His information has brought me to appreciate the Blueberry burst Gibson!
And a Telecaster one.
Bro I follow you almost daily for almost a year now and have always respected your take on guitars and also industry insights pour from you and I hope everyone catches the information because it's what forms the industry we all love...I may have commented before but generally I have a CPL guys I regularly chat with that are also great channels but usually just consume content...lol..just wanted to tell you that I'm pretty sure this is my favorite so far from your channel... incredible research and hands on information... world class channel presented in world class manner...awesome job man...you will continue to survive my periodic channel purges...🤘😜🎸🎶🔥
23:40 I love this
I currently own week#33 lp classic antique. I bought it as a back up classic. Thank God I barely used it. Thank you Austin for educating us on this series
great Video, My favorite is week 2 the LP Classic in Antique Fire Burst. The FireBurst on the SG Base was awesome as well. If they put that on a regular SG I would buy it.
Amazing knowledge flexing! Loved it
Holy smoke, this video must have been a huge amount of work. Thanks for bringing us so much quality content. And yes, I love that SG bass from the beginning.
Excellent video!!👍🏻
To this day I still want a week #16 LP, week #47 explorer (a friend of mine has one and he won't sell it xD) and a week #48 RD (I just love silverbursts). Recently one week 16 popped up on reverb but got sold right away.
Also, I still have my week #40 silverburst V which I got for like $850 about 10 years ago. It's absolutely gorgeous and it has the chunkiest neck on any Gibson that I've ever played or owned and it's quite heavy for being a V, it's even heavier than my thunderhorse explorer. I only changed the pickups for ones with chrome covers and the knobs for chrome ones, but man, such a nice guitar.
Great video! Thank you
3 pup black beauty custom classic is really cool too
The two I liked best were the aged white LP and the white LP jr with the cool pick guard. Great video Trogly!
out of alllll those guitars, the allen collin explorer, 84’ explorer, and the silver burst rd are my favorite and definitely the ones i feel you should find and review!
Cool video. Lots of interesting guitars.
Thanks Trogly. This video was usefull when I was reseaching about #36 The Explorer, I got it for a nice price. Thank you!
love this series! got the maple bird and then traded a lp classic for the zebra one..both satin finishes really nice.. wood is amazing in both of them..banjo tuners kinda junky tho. i also manage to wrangle a mahghany explorer pro from that year..tho finish on mine is more of a lighter burnt orange..the smaller body really makes it easy for a dude my stature to rock out lol. def one best sounding fiddles ive got. one my students had a burl maple top exp pro round the same time wow that was sweet..i guess those came out the following year maybe?
the fact that so many of these guitars came with ebony fretboards is a tremendous selling point. change the pickups, change the hardware, but an sg standard, explorer, and rd silver burst with ebony fretboard? get me in.
It would be great a video on the guitars of the month of 2008, I really loved the LP-295!
I’m very fortunate enough to have the #28 Les Paul Classic Custom, but it came with double humbuckers instead of P-90’s which I’ve found was an option and not a modification. It is the best out of the few GOTW’s I’ve been fortunate enough to play. Awesome video man!
My explorer pro is probably one of the best metal machines ever created, smart scale, low weight, not over punched in bass frequency like other explorers but amazing medium ranges. I'm really love it!
Truly remarkable work
I had been waiting for this video for years, thanks Austin, great job :)
I still have here with me the #37 (‘67 SG Special), exchanged at the time for a ‘79 “The SG”... I don’t know if it was a deal or nonsense that thought about it, but I still love this particular Reissue model a little revisited :)
A friend of mine instead managed to get the #41 (Nashville LP Junior) really very interesting, fabulous ebony keyboard, but unfortunately a very delicate finish... He ruined after a very short time and my friend, dissatisfied, sold it... I regret not having bought it back from him!!!
My unfulfilled dream though was #8 (LP Antique Deluxe), it will remain forever a dream :)
I really loved the finish on the Les Paul Classic, also I'm digging the headstock with the crown logo.
🎸👍🎸
Very interesting video. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I have the cherry explorer pro, week 13. Plays and sounds awesome along with being very comfortable as well.
I bought the week 42 Ace Les Paul off you. Love it!
Very good. Now can we also do the same thing with "Guitar of the Month". A few of those are some of my favorites, ever!
