I was manager at a large music store when these came. It was a really fun time to be selling Gibson! Now the news some collectors probably don't want to hear, I saw Gibson's shipping numbers on every model and popular models weren't limited to 400 they shipped over 1,500 of the reverse "V". Some of the models that weren't selling ( the money bass for one) had a run as small as 200 so the "limited run" was limited to how many they could sell. I know people will argue about this, I'm only passing on what I saw.
I bought a New Century X-plorer with the carbon fiber pickguard back in 2008 from Best Buy when they had their instruments section. I remember they had this marked as a standard explorer so it was just under $1000. Didnt realize at the time how limited it was.
I have the golden goose. Week #41, Nashville LP Junior. Bought used in 2008 from Ishibashi Japan. Had it shipped to Beijing where I was living at the time. It was my first Gibson after being a long time Fender guy. I still have the guitar but rarely take it out of the case because I'm afraid of strumming those prairie flowers off the pick guard! Other than a little bit of wear on one of the flowers it's mint.
It should be noted that GOTW #9 Les Paul Supreme Autumn Burst was specified with a flamed/figured Ebony Fingerboard. To date this is the only guitar I've ever seen with Figured Ebony.

I own the #36 Explorer since 2008. They advertised them with "carbon fiber" body pickguard but in reality it is not, it's just transparent plastic with something painted on the back that emulates the carbon fiber. Very disapointed when I found out, but still one of my favorites!
I own a Week #25, and you are correct - compared to the other GOTW this is at the bottom of the barrel as far as resale goes BUT have You ever played one?? Whomever decided to pair a P90 with a Ceramic T500 was a GENIUS. The tones from crystal cleans to heavy rock are amazing. And as I said LOVE THE TONE!!
Definitely have to go with that #43 Explorer because of how much it resembles that Allen Collins Custom. The AC custom goes for $15,000+ whenever they DO get listed for sale, so that GOTW model is absolutely a “close enough” steal.
Great vid! I was researching about #6 and tried to use wayback machine but had a hard time. This makes it a lot easier. #37 is a funny one. On top of being a tune-o-matic/stopbar setup, it has the 'incorrect' pickguard when compared to an actual 67 Special - by 67 they were all batwings. As Reissue, this guitar is a big fail (historically speaking). It looks very nice though. As for the 61 RI Satin, they also made some later in 2012 or so.
Yeah though it looks like the Faded in the guitar of the week have gloss Headstock veneers where the 2012 Fadeds have a satin headstock veneer. The 2012s have more colors though and I think a baked maple fretboard if I am not mistaken, but could be very well rosewood boards.

We Troglodytes desperately need something similar done for 2004! I just bought a 2004 Les Paul Standard Limited in Amber which apparently they made 275 of. There’s so much conflicting info on whether these were just made for GC or not, some have GC on the serial though most do not (mine is a lower serial and yet has not GC on it) , and the list goes on. The classic antique headstock and ebony fretboard sold me on it and was the first year of the burst bucker pros as I recall. Gibson apparently sold so many they just kept on making them and stopped handwriting the out of 275 on the back of the headstock. Definitely a cool period for Gibson and need clarity!!!
I have one of the Jazz White SGs - it was my first Gibson. I'd definitely call it a New Century variant - it has the exact same specs including the 490/498 pickups. Just a different finish and pickguard (I love that goofy pickguard, but I can see how some may not like it). The satin white finish is really nice as far as feel goes, and my heavily modded Flying V will be getting the same finish eventually. But that was the guitar that started my love affair with low-end Gibsons.

Just got an awesome 2005 Epiphone custom shop SG today! I love it so much. Traded an Ibanez RG for it. Dude wanted the RG so bad he drove an hr in a snow storm here in Ohio. I'm sure glad he did. What a trooper!
The gold top or double cold top custom is already amazing but a gold top supreme?!‽! Thats crazy awesome. Especially gold with a customer appointments like the Gold hardware with the black plastics looks so much better to me than normal gold tops with the Chrome and cream color. Think it could use just a tiny bit more black like maybe black out the knobs and keep the rest of the hardware gold so black pickup rooms and black knobs would be so dope on that I love it
on number 48, it really looked like the photo was black & white or grayscale. seeing it in the case where there was other colors, I finally realized it wasn't. that said, it's an amazing color scheme. it could easily be used as a b&w/grayscale item in a movie or some such, where everything else is in color--like a character from an old movie/show steps into "the real world" - kind of like pleasantville
Thanks for doing this video - as a "regular" Classic Antique owner, it bugs me when you see them for sale claiming to be GOTW models when they're not, and I can't always get to the right snapshot of the 2007 Gibson website on the web archive that has the right pages on it.
I’m very fortunate enough to have the #28 Les Paul Classic Custom, but it came with double humbuckers instead of P-90’s which I’ve found was an option and not a modification. It is the best out of the few GOTW’s I’ve been fortunate enough to play. Awesome video man!
Week #33 is my baby. Still mint, not selling it. I got it from Guitar Center in Hollywood, CA. For my birthday in 2008. It was the last one they had and negotiated a good price cut. Very happy with it.
Reverse flying V’s can be so comfortable you could sleep with it , but it’s not the comfort everyone is worried about , it’s the look of it. It’s an arrow more than a reverse Flying V , and it’s ugly. That’s just my opinion on it anyway. They could be cheaper than an IYV guitar and I wouldn’t buy one LOL. That’s the Amazon guitar everyone thinks says IVY LOL. 👍👍👍✌️✌️✌️
Yeah part of the allure of playing guitar is they look cool and therefore make you cooler the reverse Vs are not cool. I agree ugly . If the neck pick up position does something incredibly special keep the thing in the studio lol . I do like the headstock on it though .
I love the LP Classic Antique . You think they'll ever do a reissue?is that gold binding on that 61 reissue SG or just heavily aged yellowed . Love a good trip burst and that antique is awsome. Knew one person who had a reverse Flying V. He loved it. I always thought that Gibson should've also reversed the headstock to kind of emulate the X wing fighter. I like the last one . I believe you called it a RD. Kind of has the explorer vibe but carved down a d different look.
Anyone know what date in 07 these started? I'd like to find one around my son's B-Day that was on 01/07/08, based on what i've seen that looks to be week 34??
Nice job with this one! I have a week 7 midnight blue Money Bass and I love it, but they do have a very dodgy truss rod and I have to hope mine doesn't move much now as it's no longer adjustable without being replaced. The T-Bird+ pickups in it (and other Les Paul and ES-335 basses) are really hot but they do sound really big though a good bass tube amp.
out of alllll those guitars, the allen collin explorer, 84’ explorer, and the silver burst rd are my favorite and definitely the ones i feel you should find and review!
I had been waiting for this video for years, thanks Austin, great job :) I still have here with me the #37 (‘67 SG Special), exchanged at the time for a ‘79 “The SG”... I don’t know if it was a deal or nonsense that thought about it, but I still love this particular Reissue model a little revisited :) A friend of mine instead managed to get the #41 (Nashville LP Junior) really very interesting, fabulous ebony keyboard, but unfortunately a very delicate finish... He ruined after a very short time and my friend, dissatisfied, sold it... I regret not having bought it back from him!!! My unfulfilled dream though was #8 (LP Antique Deluxe), it will remain forever a dream :)
great Video, My favorite is week 2 the LP Classic in Antique Fire Burst. The FireBurst on the SG Base was awesome as well. If they put that on a regular SG I would buy it.
I was so ecstatic to buy the RD when it came out from musicians friend. However it weighed a ton and due to a work related injury I had to get rid of it a few years later. It came with dirty fingers pickups which were absolutely horrible. All low end, and not very clear. I ended up swapping them out for 57 classics and it became my main live guitar for 5 years. I have tried to look for another since having back surgery and they're now selling for over 4k on reverb! Really kicking myself for that one.
I had a week 14 les paul. It was a good paul. Kind of a slim neck not to heavy all around a great guitar. But they have went up in value over the years. I purchased mine fore 1400$ several years ago but there more like 2200$ and up just depending on what the seller is asking. Brought back memories seeing those pictures again. Thanks Austin
Love your channel man! I saw your other video and your collection is absolutely beautiful! These are some beautiful guitars you're showing us pictures of as well! I love how you go through all the specs and take the guitars apart to show us the guts of them on your normal videos. Cool videos man! I'm a fan for sure! -Stephen

love this series! got the maple bird and then traded a lp classic for the zebra one..both satin finishes really nice.. wood is amazing in both of them..banjo tuners kinda junky tho. i also manage to wrangle a mahghany explorer pro from that year..tho finish on mine is more of a lighter burnt orange..the smaller body really makes it easy for a dude my stature to rock out lol. def one best sounding fiddles ive got. one my students had a burl maple top exp pro round the same time wow that was sweet..i guess those came out the following year maybe?
I have the SG week #10,and the RD week# 47.I was kind of bummed that they re-issued the RD about a year later. I really wanted the zebra wood Firewood.

on number 48, it really looked like the photo was black & white or grayscale. seeing it in the case where there was other colors, I finally realized it wasn't. that said, it's an amazing color scheme. it could easily be used as a b&w/grayscale item in a movie or some such, where everything else is in color--like a character from an old movie/show steps into "the real world" - kind of like pleasantville
I love the Les Paul Classic Antique Fireburst. The colors are awesome❣
Thanks Trogly, another fantastic video. Great information as usual!!!
The black LP with P-90s was nice, looked like it could rip!!!🤘🎸
Awesome video, so many cool and interesting guitars!! For my $$ the two Black Beauty Classic Customs are the cream of this crop!
Thanks for doing this video - as a "regular" Classic Antique owner, it bugs me when you see them for sale claiming to be GOTW models when they're not, and I can't always get to the right snapshot of the 2007 Gibson website on the web archive that has the right pages on it.
I love that autumn burst les
I’m very fortunate enough to have the #28 Les Paul Classic Custom, but it came with double humbuckers instead of P-90’s which I’ve found was an option and not a modification. It is the best out of the few GOTW’s I’ve been fortunate enough to play. Awesome video man!
Week #33 is my baby. Still mint, not selling it. I got it from Guitar Center in Hollywood, CA. For my birthday in 2008. It was the last one they had and negotiated a good price cut. Very happy with it.
FANTASTIC Episode Trogly!!
👍👍👍✌️✌️✌️
They live on because of the contraversy…. Mission accomplished
Yeah part of the allure of playing guitar is they look cool and therefore make you cooler the reverse Vs are not cool. I agree ugly . If the neck pick up position does something incredibly special keep the thing in the studio lol . I do like the headstock on it though .
Well the rev V sits like a classical guitar quite perfect and less wrist, underarm friction
23:40 I love this
I love the LP Classic Antique .
The reason I've never been much of an explorer fan is all that real estate. Maybe I'd like the pro if I tried it.
Anyone know what date in 07 these started? I'd like to find one around my son's B-Day that was on 01/07/08, based on what i've seen that looks to be week 34??
The two I liked best were the aged white LP and the white LP jr with the cool pick guard. Great video Trogly!
3 pup black beauty custom classic is really cool too
So happy you put this vid together.
I had been waiting for this video for years, thanks Austin, great job :)
I still have here with me the #37 (‘67 SG Special), exchanged at the time for a ‘79 “The SG”... I don’t know if it was a deal or nonsense that thought about it, but I still love this particular Reissue model a little revisited :)
A friend of mine instead managed to get the #41 (Nashville LP Junior) really very interesting, fabulous ebony keyboard, but unfortunately a very delicate finish... He ruined after a very short time and my friend, dissatisfied, sold it... I regret not having bought it back from him!!!
My unfulfilled dream though was #8 (LP Antique Deluxe), it will remain forever a dream :)
I bought the week 42 Ace Les Paul off you. Love it!
Awesome rundown, really enjoyable
Great work!! However, I don't see my 2007 Gibson Les Paul Classic in Vintage white with EMGs..Ebony fretboard.. I'll keep searching
great Video, My favorite is week 2 the LP Classic in Antique Fire Burst. The FireBurst on the SG Base was awesome as well. If they put that on a regular SG I would buy it.
Dang. As a bass player you got my craving a new bass with that first one mentioned. That SG bass with the quilted maple top looks killer.
I actually have the #20. Any idea what its worth in mint condition?
I was so ecstatic to buy the RD when it came out from musicians friend. However it weighed a ton and due to a work related injury I had to get rid of it a few years later. It came with dirty fingers pickups which were absolutely horrible. All low end, and not very clear. I ended up swapping them out for 57 classics and it became my main live guitar for 5 years. I have tried to look for another since having back surgery and they're now selling for over 4k on reverb! Really kicking myself for that one.
that nashville is cool! isnt there a guitar of the week for 2008 too?i have a 3 pickup sg in the satin black and white pickguard that was made in 2008
Wow so happy you did this, #38 is the one! I had wanted to buy it at the time & over the years forgot what week it was. Thanks Trogz!!!!
It would be great a video on the guitars of the month of 2008, I really loved the LP-295!

Thanks for putting this together. I recently sold GOTW#11, my zebrawood Thunderbird. I instantly regretted it, but the buyer was over the moon about it.
My guy is uploading so fast I can't keep up with him
That’s the best part of this channel. We get a daily dose of guitar information
+1
Excellent work Trogly!
Teah ..that orange read burst supreme is really nice too..
I have the cherry explorer pro, week 13. Plays and sounds awesome along with being very comfortable as well.
love this series! got the maple bird and then traded a lp classic for the zebra one..both satin finishes really nice.. wood is amazing in both of them..banjo tuners kinda junky tho. i also manage to wrangle a mahghany explorer pro from that year..tho finish on mine is more of a lighter burnt orange..the smaller body really makes it easy for a dude my stature to rock out lol. def one best sounding fiddles ive got. one my students had a burl maple top exp pro round the same time wow that was sweet..i guess those came out the following year maybe?
Beautiful guitars and I would love to own them all.
27 and 37 were my faves!!
Very good. Now can we also do the same thing with "Guitar of the Month". A few of those are some of my favorites, ever!
I have the SG week #10,and the RD week# 47.I was kind of bummed that they re-issued the RD about a year later. I really wanted the zebra wood Firewood.
Truly remarkable work
Just starting the video super stoked!
