The video discusses the development of active focus over time for the speaker, Gemma, who is using the End Myopia method to improve her vision. Active focus has changed for her as she has become more experienced, and she can now use it to intentionally clear up things that are further away. She has found that her active focus ability has become stronger and can be used more effectively while moving. The speaker also shares her experience with active focus when she got her new normalised glasses, which introduced a large amount of blur. Despite the blur, she was able to use active focus to clear it up and experience a sense of depth and relaxation. She emphasizes that active focus can be basic and unassuming, and it can become more powerful as the eyes get better and better with practice.
Great video as usual. Stereograms you refer to are usually made to diverge eyes so if you converge eyes you see the image in the background instead of being 3D in foreground. This explains tension too, stereograms are very relaxing and usefull to me to improve fusion and I got rid of double vision also using those images.
@@GemilyMez yes sure. Converging too much leads to strain. Diverging 'exercises' are great to improve fusion and stereograms are funny and I really relax myself in those 3D hidden images. Try to blink and keep the image! For me it's a great habit
You will. It is also possible to have found it and not even realise it, because at the beginning it can be very subtle - nothing very dramatic, despite all the talk.
Keep up your excellent work, Gemily! Your enthusiasm is incredible! I have been helping my sister's three kids with this effort over the last 30 years. My strong recommendation, was to always keep the Snellen up (or confirn on Cell Phone Snellen), and always guarantee that is they objectively pass the required 20/40 line. Do that, and you can totally reject any prescribed minus lens, and self confirm, your successful, back to 20/20. (You also avoid all arguments with ODs. Who needs them?)
Love love love as always. I spent like massive time outside over last weekend and was getting a bunch of clear flashes much of the week during my morning reset (super exciting since it has been a while and I have had some health related set backs, but feels like evidence I am going the right way again). So excited for you that in just 6 weeks your normz aren't really challenging anymore!! Best wishes with that double vision, it's a pain but all part of the journey, so cheers. See you next week ;)
I hope you are okay! Outside time is wonderful. I still haven't experienced clear flashes! Forgive me for asking (I probably should know, but hard to keep everyone's numbers in my head) - where are your diopters at? Hehe, see you next week indeed!
@@GemilyMez better now, thanks, nasty virus in Feb caused an even nastier months long Fibromyalgia flare up that made a mess of my vision... anyways I am using a - 3 normalized currently (without cyl) which even the ophthalmologist low-key measured me at 20\30 with some 20\25 in, under fluorescent lighting (obviously get a little better in good light) and when I hit 20/20 in this one I am going for my full on optometrist check up and getting it in writing (for the disbelivers). I started at a 17 year stabilized -4.75 with .5 cyl, so a nice gap people are going to be hard pressed to explain away :) As for the clear flashes I wouldn't worry if I was you, like you stated it could just be a matter of not enough opportunities, but you are doing splendidly regardless. I feel like I saw somewhere that clear flashes are most common in that last diopter, once again probably comes down to a matter of more opportunity for your eyes to jump the bigger gap. I think I get them more as a rule because my eyes prefer to pull focus, vs push focus (I have I hard time convincing my eyes just a little blur is worth the effort lol)
@@Reannon5 Ugh, fybro sucks. My sister has it. Sorry to hear that - it can really knock you about. How exciting about getting close to making your vision gains "official"!
@@GemilyMez yeah, I am excited. I was an anxious mess about it because I know the lighting is so bad and they test your vision one eye at a time, so I know their measurements aren't going to match mine, since I measure in the conditions I live in with both eyes (strange that, since I use them together right? Lol) but that low-key screening gave me a confidence boost. Almost certainly they will still write it for a bit higher especially with the tendency to correct to 20/15 but I really am looking forward to it now :D
There can be lots of reasons for not having found active focus. Did you watch my first video on Active Focus? It doesn't have to be a bit or obvious thing - just looking more carefully, more intentionally is a fine place to start. If you can just do that, on purpose, keep reminding yourself throughout the ray to look at one tiny detail, like the dot on an "i" when you are reading, and then if you are outside, pick something near by and do the same, and just keep doing that whenever you think of it - even if the blur doesn't clear up, just doing that multiple times a day over time your eyes will start getting better at it. Have you got differentials yet? Normalised yet? Where are you up to?
Gemily Mez yeah I’ve watched all your videos. I’ve haven’t found active focus with my diffs or my normalised. I did what you said and it stays stuck. The only thing I can clear up is the small text on my iPhone with no glasses on. I feel so down about it and I know I should be positive but I just want a little bit of improvement and I would be so happy
The fact that you can clear up the small text on your iPhone without your glasses on is excellent! If you can do it, you can do it! Just keep practicing and it will get stronger!
When my son practiced active focus at the first time he asked me if to wipe his tears but there was none. That’s just how he felt. He wasn’t feeling well today so we didn’t do AF but tomorrow we’ll head to the nearest parking lot. I need to come up with more games for him to practice AF. He is -0.75 and -0.25.
Hi Gemily - My sister's three kids, always personally pass the required DMV Test. If their Visual Acuity got down to 20/50, (about -1 Diopter ) they would wear a plus lens for all college work, until they got their eyes, close to 20/20.
Great video! I like the camera analogy; AF feels like a "fluttering" for me. Also: Do you think the sensation of depth that you gained has something to do with improved binocular alignment/convergence? I'm having similarly positive experiences in AF and am wondering if I should spend money on eye therapy to fix overconvergence (misaligned binocular vision). Good luck!
Oooh, that is a great theory regarding depth. Yes, that would certainly fit. It fits with the Magic Eye puzzle similarity as well. I didn't know eye therapy to fix over-convergence was a thing. Do you suffer with it?
@@GemilyMez Right, I've gotten headaches from 3D movies and am told it's due to binocular misalignment, when the eyes don't work well together (those with lazy eye are in a similar boat). I found out recently and some in the EM forum have also gotten therapy, though others seem to have worked it out... So I'm hopeful.. 🤞 And my over convergence is from working too much up close (grad student here). So getting away from screen more and more will hopefully help in many ways...
My first pair of differentials should arrive today...can't wait to get started. At -3,75/-2,75 I wasn't really able, to do any practicing without them so far. The difference between left and right eye is just to big, to do anything at all without correction. Wish me luck in getting the hang of it soon!

I dont really know how to express this but yeah and also ended up getting headaches please reply, I would be grateful if you do so by the way, i love your videos
I learnt active focus the hard way 😂 i started at -1.75 i ditch my glasses and i only wore -1.25 at night ,which was pretty under prescribed for night vision i should have used them as my Normalised.. . i would walk in blur and try to relax and wait for the clear flashes to happen which eventually they do but it's so hard and they only last for few seconds until i blink and i got socially awkward it wasn't fun . I felt my eyes were messing with me cause sometimes when I don't need the clear flashes they come and when i really need them there is just blur 😂😂 imagine for 4 months i was living like this cause i didn't know what i was doing at that time i didn't absorb endmyopia method and how stimulus works i was kinda confused cause i was following Mark Warren method . So nowadays i do have my pulling walks without glasses in the morning while the weather is good and i enjoy the clear flashes while they last but after half an hour or so when i feel that my eyes just had enough of it i would wear my normalised -1 back on and continue to wear them for the rest of the day . And yeah i feel better now glasses are not the enemy when u know what u are doing . Endmyopia rocks ❤️👌
That is such a great idea - morning walks without glasses until your eyes really ask for them. That's a wonderful way to enjoy the pulling focus in your day. I may try that when it is nice sunny weather. You are so right - glasses are not the enemy.
Thanks for your content Gemily, I listen to you and jake constantly throughout the day even if I already seen the episode. Your experience is valuable. For my active focus experience. I'm 3 weeks into endmyopia and last week is when i started to get it a bit. It feels kind of like my eye ball is jumping out just a bit and grabbing the image. It started with just a half second or so but now at random times I can hold the clear image, and then if I blink or move my eyes elsewhere it goes away. Does that sound about right to you? I'm also wondering how people are getting clear flashes of they are wearing glasses? To me my normalized are still pretty damn clear and I probably wouldnt know whether I had a clear flash or not.
It could be tricky to make a video that everyone can understand, as I only speak a limited number of languages, so I am a bit limited there. But I have made a number of active focus videos, as well as pointing viewers towards active focus videos other people have made. Have you seen these? 1. ua-cam.com/video/7BvHDvrk0dQ/v-deo.html 2. ua-cam.com/video/Pq2plJDBsg4/v-deo.html 3. ua-cam.com/video/tD7Hck_dKOI/v-deo.html
There are some really fascinating observations here. I think it's a really good point that the experience may change as one progresses. Can I add that endmyopia isn't just for those who are short-sighted? I am long-sighted and using the same techniques to stabilize my vision at whatever diopter it ends up with.
@@GemilyMez Yes, it's exactly the sme principle. I use techniques to relax my eyes and get them working properly again. I wasn't diagnoseed when I should have been and ended up with very strained eyes and also a strabismus which I'm getting rid of with the same techniques. Check out some of my vids.
Both are really helpful if you are still at a level of myopia to need differentials. Once you no longer need differentials though, the distance vision is going to become more valuable.
I use active focus in conjunction with movement. I use Dr. Bates' methods as well as other techniques to active focus. Ideally, being outside on a sunny day, looking at trees in the distance while walking or rocking back & forth (both side-by-side and front-to-back) produces active focus for me. I think the key parts to active focus are (1) noticing detail, texture, shade, (2) noticing movement of any kind both centrally and peripherally, and (3) being relaxed as much as possible (don't strain too much). Noticing movement is probably the toughest for most near-sight'rs since many have a bad habit of looking at things through tunnel vision.
You are so right! Tunnel vision, or... not looking at anything too. Like, when I would go for walks, or be outside for any reason, I would often find myself lost in thoughts, not engaging my eyes on anything at all. So important to engage, notice and appreciate what we see!
Hey can u tell this thing really effective pleases tell me most of them are fake in yt this is my last hope to improve my eye others wish I will blind in year help me please
Hey gemily ....every time I try active focus my eyes instead gets blurrier and lost the focus Is this normal??? Or do i need to do a little bit longer???
were you still able to make some gains, improvements without having found active focus? I find it is really hard to clear up blur. When i go outside, I look at signs and far distance like trees and look at them actively, but if there is blur, its really hard to do.
I had Active Focus already, I have just found a new level. If you find it hard to clear up blur at a distance, what about things close up? Can you clear up text on a book? Also, if you are trying to clear up blur in the distance, are you wearing your normalised while doing that?
I have definitely made gains and still have no idea how active focus works. Close up I can move text back a little and it still seems mostly clear. But at a distance I'm completely lost. I don't let it bother me. Progress happens as long as I avoid close up use of distance lens.
@@Kevin.L_ how much diopters did you reduce in what time frame or how much progress without af. I can somewhat do closeup af just like you described but far distance I cant seem to clear any blur, or im not sure what im looking for. How much distance/outdoor time do you get? when im outdoors, i feel like im not accomplishing any gains by just looking into the trees
@@lavliina2136 . 75 diopters and a little cylinder in close to 10 months. A lot of time driving and other outside time which helps. It seems like close up time hurts my eyesight even when using differentials.
Just found endmyopia, going to order my first pair, which are differentials, how do you recommend I start using them, like should I give my eyes a day of blur, to shock them, I read about this on the endmyopia blog, what do you recommend I have average myopia but high astigmatism, so I am planning to drop 1D of astigmatism and 1D of spherical instead of 1.5D spherical( as mentioned in blog, drop 1D astigmatism, add 0.5D to spherical)
Do you have to blink to find active focus or is it just looking at text and objects at a comfortable distance with intention and your eyes will clear it up by themselves? Thanks!
It can be be either. You don't have to blink. Some people find it helps, some people don't. I think your second description is pretty good. My latest video is about ways to do active focus - it may clear things up. ua-cam.com/video/7BvHDvrk0dQ/v-deo.html
Thanks so much! I saw your comment on Facebook as well. I’ve been doing the looking with intention all day, I’m getting there. I’ve had good success with the blinking before. I had actually gotten to seeing the 20/20 line on my eye chart without glasses then I relaxed and started going about my normal day without doing so much active focus and then my eyes started going backwards and for the past 6 months I’ve been struggling seeing improvements in my eyes. Looking back now I’m thinking, doing it the way I was doing it wasn’t sustainable. Which was hard blinking mostly. So this way seems so much better and sustainable for long term results and nicer to the skin around your eyes lol
Nice video 👍👌. Can u help me out. Ihave -6 left and -5 right. With 1.5 left and 2 right astigmatism. How much to reduce it for my first differential. Plsssss help me out .
Hi there! Unfortunately, I cannot give diopter-specific advice, as I am not a professional. However, you can find some very helpful information that will let you work that out in this link: endmyopia.org/defined-differential-prescription/ But I will give you a tip: you don't reduce astigmatism in your first set of differentials. ;) Save that until your second set of differentials. So you only need to worry about reducing spherical for your first pair of differentials. But when you are ready to reduce cylinder (astigmatism) correction in your differentials, there is a page on the website that is very helpful. Even though you do not have "Low Mtyopia, High Astigmatism", if you read this page you will learn some important things about reducing astigmatism... endmyopia.org/qa-high-astigmatism-low-myopia-sph-to-cyl-ratio-control/ Good luck!
When I get a differential, do I have to wear them for 6 weeks with a normalized or just only the differential during those 6 weeks then use the normalized? *sigh* everything is so hard to understand when English isn’t even my first language so sorry if I ask ☺️...I’m getting a bit depressed abt this day by day now
Your first pair of differentials? You wear them for close up, and just keep wearing your normal full correction for the rest of the time. After 6 weeks, you introduce a lowered correction - your normalised. So it looks like this: Full glasses 1st Normalised 2nd Normalised 3rd Normalised | | | |______(6 weeks)|(6 weeks)|(6 weeks)|(6 weeks)|(6 weeks)|(6 weeks)|........... | | | | 1st Differentials 2nd Differentials 3rd Differentials 4th Differentials Does that make sense? Edit: This doesn't really work if you are on an app, but looks right on a computer screen.
Gemily Mez also , doing active focus is not about staring right ? It’s basically like looking at something with curiosity without forcing , finding tiny blur and clear it ?
Don't feel bad! Stressing about it won't help at all. Did you see my first video on active focus? That is where I give the best explanation I can. Stop waiting for something obvious and profound. Just try to use your best vision, pay attention to what you are seeing, don't look in a lazy way. Challenge yourself to clear up a tiny bit of blur when you are reading. And don't stress! Just have fun connecting with your vision and play with what your eyes can do.
All you gotta do was touch the video to see the top icons pop up and touch "CC" to unwhite it......"CC" there for reason, for peoole that are deaf and hearing loss from old age. So they can read what the person in video talking about while hearing viewers listening.

You are so right! Tunnel vision, or... not looking at anything too. Like, when I would go for walks, or be outside for any reason, I would often find myself lost in thoughts, not engaging my eyes on anything at all. So important to engage, notice and appreciate what we see!
Has active focus helped anyone here to reduce their diopters?
I am back to 20/20. I will not say active focus for myself.
I got rid of all close work.
@@otiebrown9999 what did help you then? Reducing close work and maybe screen time?
@@minimalist2406 I got rid of close work.
This is not accepted.
Hey can u tell this thing really effective pleases tell me most of them are fake in yt this is my last hope to improve my eye others wish I will blind in year help me please
Hey gemily ....every time I try active focus my eyes instead gets blurrier and lost the focus
Is this normal???
Or do i need to do a little bit longer???
It doesn't have to be longer, as long as you do it often. Have you seen this video on Active Focus? ua-cam.com/video/7BvHDvrk0dQ/v-deo.html
were you still able to make some gains, improvements without having found active focus?
Just found endmyopia, going to order my first pair, which are differentials, how do you recommend I start using them, like should I give my eyes a day of blur, to shock them, I read about this on the endmyopia blog, what do you recommend
I have average myopia but high astigmatism, so I am planning to drop 1D of astigmatism and 1D of spherical instead of 1.5D spherical( as mentioned in blog, drop 1D astigmatism, add 0.5D to spherical)
Sounds great. For diffs, no need to do any sort of diopter reset. Just put them on for close up whenever you get them. :)
It’s possible to move back and forth between the two views, at least I can.
Yeah, I would assume it is possible - especially since you experience that it is!
However, you can find some very helpful information that will let you work that out in this link: endmyopia.org/defined-differential-prescription/
But I will give you a tip: you don't reduce astigmatism in your first set of differentials. ;) Save that until your second set of differentials. So you only need to worry about reducing spherical for your first pair of differentials. But when you are ready to reduce cylinder (astigmatism) correction in your differentials, there is a page on the website that is very helpful. Even though you do not have "Low Mtyopia, High Astigmatism", if you read this page you will learn some important things about reducing astigmatism... endmyopia.org/qa-high-astigmatism-low-myopia-sph-to-cyl-ratio-control/
Good luck!
@@GemilyMez so nice of you dear .

@@aashivsharma15plz update
When I get a differential, do I have to wear them for 6 weeks with a normalized or just only the differential during those 6 weeks then use the normalized? *sigh* everything is so hard to understand when English isn’t even my first language so sorry if I ask ☺️...I’m getting a bit depressed abt this day by day now
Your first pair of differentials? You wear them for close up, and just keep wearing your normal full correction for the rest of the time.
After 6 weeks, you introduce a lowered correction - your normalised.
So it looks like this:
Full glasses 1st Normalised 2nd Normalised 3rd Normalised
| | |
|______(6 weeks)|(6 weeks)|(6 weeks)|(6 weeks)|(6 weeks)|(6 weeks)|...........
| | | |
1st Differentials 2nd Differentials 3rd Differentials 4th Differentials
Does that make sense?
Edit: This doesn't really work if you are on an app, but looks right on a computer screen.
Gemily Mez so I wear a differential and my full correction for now for 6 six weeks, then I reduce after new 6 weeks ?
Yep. Your differentials and your full correction for 6 weeks. Then, once 6 weeks is up, swap your full correction for your first pair of normalised.
Gemily Mez thank you ! About finding active focus, I have to find it with differential and my full correction the first time ?
Gemily Mez also , doing active focus is not about staring right ? It’s basically like looking at something with curiosity without forcing , finding tiny blur and clear it ?
I am trying since 1 month and I can't find active focus I feel so bad about that thing can you help me in this
Don't feel bad!
Mam do u get a little floaters in ur eyes?
Yeah, I have some.
@@HelpingHand3120 u started ur journey?
''Putting the subtitles on'' no thanks. No more depression.
You do not enjoy subtitles?
All you gotta do was touch the video to see the top icons pop up and touch "CC" to unwhite it......"CC" there for reason, for peoole that are deaf and hearing loss from old age. So they can read what the person in video talking about while hearing viewers listening.
