    Great series!
    You can see the other slugs as unpowered liquid and gas pumps! It would be great to see a sponge slug ranch at the bottom of the map that feeds liquids into your water sorting system!
    And as suggested the gas slug deal with the carbon dioxide problem at the bottom of the map venting it to space.

  • @DavidStolp
    @DavidStolp 8 місяців тому +12

    At 2:37, this change actually makes the carbon skimmer run less often, not more. The liquid bridge gives priority to the water going past its output. This explains what's going on with the aqua-tuners as well. A blob of water sits at the input end of the liquid bridge, and waits until there's a gap at the output end. Normally, there's a gap when the AT cycles, however if you overfill your cooling loop you might never get a gap. With no gap, the water sits in the pipe until it eventually overheats and breaks.

    -The carbon dioxide layer is a good move, just watch for smog slugs (unbreathable gas exposure means higher odds)
    -If this colony ends up running short on metal, you’re already running enough dreckos for geotuning supply (if refining phosphorus seems worth it)

      The geotuner is another of the many, many means of exchanging the resources you can access for other resources you want. It’s a science-type building that boosts the output of a geyser/volcano/vent in exchange for power, a supply of minerals, and a bit of duplicant attention.
      The mineral input varies depending on the source to be boosted. Metal volcanoes specifically require refined phosphorus.
      Refined phosphorus isn’t found anywhere natively, and must be processed from phosphorite, which can be dug up. However, dreckos excrete phosphorite and are easy to feed, meaning you can get a renewable source of the stuff.
      (Making the refined stuff is a problem all its own, though)

    To consider for your Volcano tamers: When you have ice available, or if you create an ice manufacturing area (Mesh tiles and a shallow pool so the frozen ice pops up similar to when magma cools), you can build temp shift plates inside the tamer area so they melt once they get hot enough and then flash into steam, pretty darn quick. Makes it easier to math the water you're putting in as well.
    I also think it's time for at least a CO2 walk-in freezer, if not the proper one tile infinite freezer.

  • @hypotheticalaxolotl
    @hypotheticalaxolotl 8 місяців тому +15

    What you could do with those gassy slugs is put them at the bottom of the colony, let them absorb all that CO2 (and other gasses), and put in ductwork to pipe it into the slickster farm. Should clean it all up pretty quickly, no? Even with the overpressure, should be able to do the same trick as with the steam in the gas tank you used.
    Would need to filter out all the rest of the gases, but cleaning up the air in your farm by using the slugs seems like it would be fitting with the colony theme, I'd think!

    My theory - you're having an issue where the steam turbines touch. It's somehow calculating the steam removal and flashing the pipe as if it was the steam temp (just a guess though)

    The aquatuner breakage is because of a bug, but there's a workaround. Instead of placing the bridge input on the next pipe after the tuner input, take it over to just above the output port and bridge OVER the output to just below the output port. This allows one pipe of "holding" space which appears to fix the issues with the game's temp calculations.

    With the carbon skimmer, to ensure it runs (near) 100% of the time - you could add a liquid valve to the mainline coming from the tank and set it to a value of max minus the skimmer output (I haven't fired up the game in a while so I will let you figure that out) - then feed the skimmer in at the valve's output - it should ensure that the output pipe runs at a constant 10kg - as long as 10kg/s is consumed :) Hope this helps

    12:43 - "a drop-off, NOT made of steel" - and sure enough, the grooming station WAS made of steel :D
    Then again, I find making slug ranch equipment out of finer metals beneficial, in only marginally - as slugs don't eat steel/niobium/thermium, any later fixes to the layout don't risk letting the slug eat the material from deconstructed buildings/rails etc that were made out of difficult-to-renew ores.

    Quick tip to anyone who wants to get even more out of a giant pacu tank- keep the eggs above the water so the newly hatched pacu have to flop in themselves. This way, the eggs don't take up critter slots and your adults breed just a little bit more before getting cramped. It will take automation and moving of eggs, though, so it might not be worth it depending on colony size.

    If you're concerned about refined metals at all and/or want to ranch more slugs, you could always geotune your volcanoes. Geotuning is such an underrated and underutilized feature by any of the major YTers, and in addition to showing off how useful it is, you could spend an episode building a phosphorous refinement setup.
    Phosphorite refinement is an annoying process because you have to heat the material to ~250C to melt it, but it won't refreeze until ~40C. Putting together a system that will efficiently do that is tricky. While I have figured it out after many, many attempts, I think it would make geotuning more accessible if more people had a guide to look towards

    • @dean4939
      @dean4939 4 місяці тому

      Ive made refined Phosphorite using the rocket exhaust. Just build an insulated box below the rocket output and build steel tiles with some smart storage bins auto loaded with a sweeper. Set the load limit on the storage bin low like 50kg or less. ( melts faster with less) then fill the air with hydrogen. you can make the bins in a V pattern with one sweeper accessing 8 smart storage bins at the bottom of the V pattern and a conveyor receptacle in the center of the V pattern to preheat the incoming Phosphorite. When a blastoff occurs it heats the tiles and phosphorite in the storage bins and drips down the tiles to the center where you can cool it in some cold water to turn in refined phosphorite. Mine has a chilling pipe in Co2 gas just below the hydrogen so its less likely to cool the steel tiles above surrounded in insulated tiles as much as possible except where the liquid drips out onto the pipe. Doesn't give huge amounts of refinement but its relatively free and you get more then you can ever use. But its dependent on your rocket program. Be sure to get a Dreco ranch to stay sustainable.

    For an extra guess on the aquatuner....I assume smaller packets would heat faster, so perhaps the 'occassional' nature of the problem is related to occassionaly having a partial packet of water in whatever square is causing the problem.
    IE. A couple hundred grams of water would flash to steam 100x faster then 20KG, which even with insulated pipes might be fast enough.

    For your liquid processing bottleneck, you might like a switch to a Rocket Platform and Rocket Platform Extension based system. The rocket port loaders and unloaders can run in parallel as long as they are connected to the same horizontal line of platforms. You get extremely good throughput and it's very easy to setup. You can bridge over gaps with an extra platform or build a bridge to support the extensions. Each port will accept/deliver a full pipe and all it requires is a liquid cargo tank sitting on a platform somewhere along the line. Also works for gasses and even for solids if you're feeling silly.

  • @santifocus7432
    @santifocus7432 8 місяців тому +5

    Its most likely the water freezing in the pipes, ONI still seems to be inconsistant from time to time and sending a green signal still even if the fluid is already at the intended temperature, the last aquatuner not having those issues is evidence for this as the water in the pipes never even got close to the shutoff temperature. I had this happen before so I sometimes just tend to set the temperature higher then what is technically possible, so instead of -5.5° for poluted water I just set it to 10°, never have issues in those types of setups.

    • @tdx6801
      @tdx6801 8 місяців тому +1

      But then it'll be the output pipe of the Aquatuner that gets flashed, not the bridge input pipe.

    • @santifocus7432
      @santifocus7432 8 місяців тому

      @@tdx6801 Actually you are right, I thought it was the other way around.
      Then the answer is alot simpler, water gets stuck in the bridge input waiting for the other side to leave a empty slot, but because there is a constant flow of cooling it cant move on resulting in the water in the pipe slowly heating up. This only becomes an issue for aquatuners that switch from being on to off alot while being attached to a loop that is FULLY filled with water, i.e. in this case attached to a water resoirvoir, this is why you always need to have 2 empty slots in your cooling loop so when it rotates once this single slot of water can jump the bridge.

    • @tdx6801
      @tdx6801 8 місяців тому

      @@santifocus7432 Or another way (though only possible cause in this design the tile the aquatuner's on is an insulated tile) is to put the bridge inside the insulated tiles. Liquid in it will be in insulated tile's temperature and as long as the tile interacts with the outside environment (surely you don't put it in a vacuum) it will never be too hot to burst liquids in it. Only problem is the liquid "spaghetti" design as the bridge position is slightly changed but in echo's design I can see 1 workable design for the problem.

    28:11 Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems you are deconstructing the power transformer and then ordering it rebuilt as a separate command, when there's a function to do this in a single step, by selecting the building, clicking the materials tab and then the change material button.
    Or is that actually less effective somehow?

    I like using a gas pipe element sensor hooked up to an inline gas vent. It's cheap, unpowered insurance against mixed gasses, but if you send it alternating empty/full packets, it gets glitchy.

    Can confirm and this also happened in my game, if the liquid gets to hot and flashes or freezes inside the pipe, it will break. Had this happen on my metal refinery while using water as a coolant. I know to use another liquid, but I am not there yet, and I did not want to just keep losing metal to the rock crusher.

    There's actually a menu that lets you automatically replace the material of buildings you got wrong.
    It isn't totally ideal, for standard buildings they still deconstruct it before building the new one, like you do with tiles, but it still means you don't have to come back after deconstructing the first one.

    For the aquatuner and bridge, try using a ceramic bridge. Also try putting a temp shift plate behind the top left of the AT necause thats where its heat is sent. And last try putting the bridge below the AT and not above/behind it.
    Ive seen others say this new patch caused their AT builds to also start failing. Quite a few on reddit.

      @@xarzneimittel8220 A Geotunner is a building that enhances the output and temperature of any volcanoes, geysers and vents.
      It requires specific materials for activation depending of the volcano but in essence, that is it.
      You can look for more info on that Station in the Oxygen Not Included Wiki.

    For the insulated pipes issue: try hiding the liquid bridge pipes in the insulated tiles coz sometimes the insulated pipe that goes into the input of the liquid bridge mistakenly inherits the stats of the Liquid bridge. It's an uncommon occurrence but it happens.

    Hey echo I've seen a cool setup from another series that uses the bees and a carnivorous plant to make hydrogen

  • @tryoxiss

    For the AT issues, I always put my bridges in the insulated tile and I never get the pipe break issues. The bridges have weird heat transfer issues. I’ve done 2 high and 3 high and never break pipes, unless I mess up the temp sensor.

    I think something has changed with bridges to transfer more heat, they definitely transfer heat more than they used to, not sure if that is a bug that was recently introduced. My suggestion is to investigate the "double bridge" setup of aquatuners, in the early days of ONI, you had to use a double bridge to keep liquid packets moving with aquatuners before that was fixed, I still always use double bridge setups with my aquatuners even if you didn't need to as it was beat into my play style. I think you are getting packets stuck in your pipes and the bridges are transferring more heat to them, maybe

  • @kylepearson4591
    @kylepearson4591 8 місяців тому +1

    That's your pipe breaking not the tuner what happening is the water is running through the tuner and one blob is staying at the space before the bridge to long and bursting as it doesn't have priority on the line it leads to there is a configuration for the bridge to go over the exit of the tuner and doesn't have that space to sit
