I do think games like ONI do lend themselves to long term content on UA-cam. People may drop off a series in the short term but old series will continue to have views roll in a lot longer than other games.
i watch the old vods on unabridged as sleep buffers but sometimes i'm guilty on the regular lets plays of falling victim to the critical role syndrome where i get so overwhelmed by the backlog i can't face it and plow through it.
Yeah, I watch playlists of these sorts of series years after they've been uploaded, oftentimes for a second or third time by that point. You can binge it in a playlist format, all the episodes are already out so there's no waiting for another upload (or losing interest during that delay) in the middle of a series, and there's no dependence on notifications working or the algorithm showing you the episode. You just click, watch, and can bookmark where you left off (episode/timestamp) for later.
It's me! Sorry for trying to drown myself right out the gate! Aside from now feeling connected to this playthrough, I'm here for the swampy biome dumpster fires!
I really like the series format concept. It makes so much sense from a storytelling standpoint. The early game has the most readable narrative. You're basically only working on one project at a time and you're trying to just nail down the basics. It basically doesn't matter what you had planned, you're just trying to survive. Once you you're solidly into the the mid game you're dealing with multiple colonies and trying to set up autonomous systems. It's hard to talk about the 5 projects you're keeping tabs on all in one video, but each of those 5 projects might be perfect for its own tutorial video (and you can even refer back to the basic systems you used in the early game).
as someone who dabbles in videos as well. don't forget about the 15k people that enjoy watching your series all the way through. their your loyalty squad. it's not as flashy as that first video for sure, but they love your content and look forward to seeing a new video from you every time you post. Personally I'm still watching the Max Difficulty run, I'm 27 videos in but I only found this channel a few weeks ago. I hope you keep doing more series like it because I find it more enjoyable but I do understand it can fade out of popularity. I do however thing it draws in people like myself, and I imagine that you can more easily produce said long form series than one off videos since you have to come up with new idea and create a script opening to start off each new thing. Anyways long of it I'm for keeping the long series but I understand the struggle these types of series have on youtube. I think there are steps you could take to improve retention but its never going to be equal to a new series usually.
I found this channel when the max difficulty series was at episode 35 and i immediately started binge watching the entire series. If it was a stand alone video I would have just watched that specific video and moved on, but the fact that it was a series made me actually subscribe and watch other videos. It's a shame that long term series don't do well on youtube
At a certain point you also progress past the point where most people can take a colony. Ive never been able to keep a colony stable even half as far along the tech tree as you do, I've only ever been able to launch 1 CO2 rocket. I try to follow along each colony start amd even do my own one from same seed but time and skill level get in the way. Still good to watch the ingenuity of the systems you put in place.
@@EchoRidgeGaming Btw, it is your fault that I try this seed now. I hope you feel sufficiently bad about this 😀 It is my very first true spaced out colony. Usually I play on classic mode and only on relaxing asteroids like Aridio. But your seed? It's a f'ing asteroid that is made of basically only offgassing stuff and very few ways to counter this. Yucky lungs 24/7 and slime lung everywhere. Way too little space. Way too little resources. On the other hand, I never played on an asteroid where I can get away without building any kind of oxygen production for such a long time... I'm curious. But I hate it. I think the first episode on games like this do so well because there's so much progress that's easy to see for someone who doesn't play the game themselves. I've noticed in ONI playthroughs that once it gets to later episodes, things seem to slow down a lot and progress is harder to track if you're not super familiar with the game, and it's just not as interesting, or it's a whole episode just focused on redoing a really complex power set up or water system, and is super technical and not as interesting as watching the Dupes explore and dig out new areas.
Fisher Echo at 17:53, don’t see any mention yet. Thanks for new chaos! I’m looking forward to the “new” pacu farm. well, that would've probably killed my base because I wouldn't have seen it. but then again now that he has seen it I don't understand why he doesn't simply liquid lock and vacuum that room.
Personally, I dropped off of the max difficulty playlist because I was (and still am) trying to learn some of the early-mid game stuff, and the way you explain it is super clear and has definitely helped me. Unfortunately, I don't improve at the pace your videos are released (nor do I get to play as much as I'd like). As the game gets trickier, people will either slow down (even if it's just to smell the flowers) or give up. It's a consequence of having content that suits multiple audiences - some are ride or die, some like to keep the training wheels on for a bit longer. My point is, I do watch most (if not all) of your videos, but I often stick with the earlier ones to reinforce stuff I'm still learning.
This is exactly my situation too. Although I try and watch the late game videos I can’t get as engaged with them because I don’t really understand what’s happening anymore.

PSA - If you are brand new to the game and got it with SO, this is the best start. I'm going to be brutally honest here. A video series for this exact start is really great to have on YT. Especially if it can teach beginners how to play. Because I always recommend first time users to start on this exact choice - Metallic Swampy Moonlet, if they bought the game with SO.
I think that people like start of a series. They se you maybe struggle a little bit and it is relatable. After a while you have everything sorted and builds get complicated and harder to follow. At least I have it like that.
I started this seed just to see how I might do... Glad I watched and found out about the little surprise. Now I gotta get to it before all hope is lost.
I'm absolutely a beginner at this game and don't really understand all the mechanics, but I'd like to throw in a guess/suggestion: is there a way to boil the poluted water clean? With those areas so hot, maybe you could have the water heat up, purify, and then a water filter bring out the clean water? Considering the metal-rich map too, it looks like you could make mechanised airlocks without worrying about your resources, and make some smaller and more sustainable clean oxygen areas, but again I'm a beginner and this might not really matter for all I know lol
Actually you can do this. If you boil polluted water you end up with mostly steam and a small amount of dirt. Cooling down the steam gives you normal water. But the 'cooling down' part is the tricky bit when you don't have a decent energy source yet.
I looked it up in the in-game wiki on cleaning water and found the same results. The best bet is to boil the water but avoid creating steam, but I haven't tried that before so for all I know this was a well-intentioned, but not at all doable idea @@mordrak90
Completing all the story traits sounds like a fun objective and it doesn't put the constraints of regular achievements on you while still being a bit challenging.
12:05 I once had one of those that drained over a million tons of salt water ocean into one tile. Didn't notice it until it became a ticking time bomb that eventually drowned my colony. Edit: omg the fish baggie is adorable!

I've got a colony on a radioactive/swampy asteroid and I'm trying the dumbest idea I could think of: Using gas pumps to draw the icky slimelung filled air up, past a radioactive satellite to kill the germs and then past some deoderizers, then out into the rest of the base. It's working so far. No germs and clean air, which is really good since I don't have a source of water on the asteroid to run an electrolyzer.
Little tip, you can switch the water cooler to brackene and it will drop the water bottle on the floor so you can use it else where. You can still disable it but you don't have to
decided to join in for this one! This is my first playthrough so its a bit rough, but 12 hours in and I'm trying to figure out radbolts so I can make steam turbines to cool my base ,_,
FYI you dont need to be careful about clean water , a pitcher pump can grab any kind of liquid from a pool so you just place a pitcher pump over whatever tile you want and then autobottle the water to wherever you want.
The thing with Yucky-Lungs in swamp planetoids is, it's not an issue at all. The pure amount of polluted water you usually get which is constantly producing polluted oxigen makes more then up for the higher intake of the Dupes. Oxigen is actually less of a concern on such planetoids then on many others
been trying to get over the mid game hump, and have a feeling this series is going to be above my current skill level haha, but also.. wow you really showed me that I am paranoid about illness and mixing the air types... and you're just letting it all happen. Maybe I'm struggling to get into midgame because my perfectionism is holding me back??
I liked the planetoid just because it gave me free (bad) oxygen and power (as little as the slugs give). Me and my friend like to play the same seeds at the same time and see who dies first, its always fun seeing the difference between our strategies and prioritizations!
I really enjoyed your last series. It inspired me to play the game some more. Although you make the game seem a lot easier then it is.😅 example, the Rodriquez is really difficult to set up. I'm looking forward to thile rest of this series.😊
since you have a hot polluted o2 vent, and a chlorine vent on your second asteroid, use ethanol from a distiller to create a heat deletion system around the o2 vent, and use the chlorine vent to produce salt for a rust deoxidizer and unlimited sand production via table salt.
@@EchoRidgeGaming i don't believe it is, because ethanol doesn't in of itself have the ability to cool down and maintain the temperature, without an aqautuner, thermo regulator, or geyser to keep the temperature of the condenser down. this creates either limited uses, or high power requirements, the later being only managed by a steam turbine. at best i can only see it as a way to trade steel and power efficiency for a lower state change to make aquatuners work with lower ranking metal ores. i think steam turbines are more exploitive than ethanol deletion.
Whenever I see a sulfur geyser I always want to set up divergent ranches with grubfruits growing in them just because I hate wasting a geyser... except CO2, vent or geyser. Those can go right in the dumpster
The first 4 thumbnails have the little ONI Avatar on it, then its just whatever you're working on. For myself, I have a hard time getting from the early game stability (Everything's more or less sorted and the fires are put out) into the transition to Industrial Materials, then Space exploration, etc
I do think games like ONI do lend themselves to long term content on UA-cam. People may drop off a series in the short term but old series will continue to have views roll in a lot longer than other games.

I watched every single video of the Achievement Colony.
"and they never get injured or hurt"
sus
Very sus :)
been trying to get over the mid game hump, and have a feeling this series is going to be above my current skill level haha, but also.. wow you really showed me that I am paranoid about illness and mixing the air types... and you're just letting it all happen. Maybe I'm struggling to get into midgame because my perfectionism is holding me back??
Sounds like we play similarly. The only race is against your potential lack of resources. Play at your own pace and have fun!
Ed says it right. Play how you want to play. Most importantly, have fun.
Yay, found hidden Echo fishing on my 3rd watch of the series!
I liked the planetoid just because it gave me free (bad) oxygen and power (as little as the slugs give). Me and my friend like to play the same seeds at the same time and see who dies first, its always fun seeing the difference between our strategies and prioritizations!
ONI is back - YAY
Tiny Echo goin fishin'!
Nice job finding the Hidden Echo!
thanks for sharing behind the curtain of your video stats
UA-cam is more likely to recommend the earlier episodes, but not the later ones.
It's a trend I've definitely noticed.
I'm on cycle 31, here for the chaos!
On the upside, you can use that abyssalite break as an easy way in for a geothermal plant later on.
I really enjoyed your last series. It inspired me to play the game some more. Although you make the game seem a lot easier then it is.😅 example, the Rodriquez is really difficult to set up. I'm looking forward to thile rest of this series.😊
33:08 I'm pretty sure the steam actually heated up the slime and turned it into some dirt, so out of this ordeal you got some more dirt!
You’re absolutely right, you can see the slime at 32:06
Great content.
since you have a hot polluted o2 vent, and a chlorine vent on your second asteroid, use ethanol from a distiller to create a heat deletion system around the o2 vent, and use the chlorine vent to produce salt for a rust deoxidizer and unlimited sand production via table salt.
This is a great idea. I wonder if most people think the Ethanol heat deletion is exploitive. Not sure to be honest.
YEAH!!! NEW SERIES!!! WERE MAKIN IT OUT OF 2023 WITH THIS ONE!!! 🔥🔥🔥🚀🚀🚀
Whenever I see a sulfur geyser I always want to set up divergent ranches with grubfruits growing in them just because I hate wasting a geyser... except CO2, vent or geyser. Those can go right in the dumpster
I miss your ONI episodes ❤
The first 4 thumbnails have the little ONI Avatar on it, then its just whatever you're working on.
For myself, I have a hard time getting from the early game stability (Everything's more or less sorted and the fires are put out) into the transition to Industrial Materials, then Space exploration, etc
I don't know why, but I love the Swamp where everything is toxic 😅
If you keep these around 30 minutes long, I can watch them on my lunch breaks at work
