When I had a parasitic queen I did the exact same method as you but I first introduced only one worker to the queen before I did the rest of the workers and the brood, that seemed to make the process go a lot quicker as the worker was killed and she absorbed the pheromones and then they accepted the queen faster, in the end it was successful and now currently that colony has over 500 workers
I did this 2 years ago with 8 Queens, one day later only 3 Queens lived and all the others were dead. A couple days later the rest of the queens died aswel…. But 2 days ago I tried it again and finally it worked 😅
I caught some parasitic lasius this year too, but I'm not really confident with my skills as an ant keeper and I don't know where any lasius nests are so I released them. Good luck with yours!
That’s not a good way to do it. You should Introduce one worker and wait until she gets accepted or killed, then wait about 30mins and add about 5 more workers one at a time slowly and then feed them to encourage trophallaxis which masks some of the queen’s main sent glands. Then slowly add the rest of the workers and then the brood
When I was new to antkeeping I caught a Lasius Umbratus queen, but I thought it was componotus and just put it in a test tube. Since the parasitic queen didn't infiltrate any colony and didn't get any food she didn't lay eggs and died 😢
You mentioned the colour difference... Thing is that both Lasius flavus and Lasius umbratus workers are very difficult to distinguish from each other since both are yellowish-orange :p
Doing Parasitic Lasius Speices is far more difficult in the Americas(or at least the part I live in) since Lasius is less common and nest mostly by side walk where you can’t dig them up. I tried to do Formica and the ants got along but the queen later died a few months later so idk lol
@@EstheticAnts they could use some very tiny slingshots (David v Goliath) ... ok just now I had the picture of 'equiping soldier ants' with very tiny weapons. Like in an RPG! I wonder if there's a store for that...
I caught 2 Lasius Fuliginosus queens this year. I put both of them together (as they are polygynous) and I got them workers and brood.....BUT THEY WERE INFERTILE!! NOOO!!!
>show up in a colony >kill some workers to take their scent >kill the main queen >use pupa as a brood boosting source >live as a normal colony >refuse to elaborate further >stay

That sounds very smart indeed and much easier aswel.
@@EstheticAnts Thank you, I must admit though It was my dads method not mine, (he's been keeping ants for almost 14 years now)
wrr
Fantastic video EA, hope this process goes well, and nice shots too.
Totally can't wait for the next update.
Thanks man! One week till next update🤭

Yaaay succes!
Can't wait to see if this is successful that was really interesting to see!
Update next week!

Thanks man, if you have no clue it is indeed better to release them.
Guys let's try get this to 100 likes at least!
Lets gooooo
@Tykenero For sure, just give it a couple more hours or at least by tomorrow and that 100 likes will be right there😉😀
This was amazing. Love watching parasitic ants. Given me some great ideas for KAE-
Thanks😊😊🤭
That is one persistent Queen and what a quirky survival strategy.
Yeah it is!
I really loved this vid!! Thank you so much for sharing! And I hope botje queen’s will survive!! Hope to see them soon🤩
I hope so too! Thanks🥰
Интересный эксперимент бро 💪
Attention red spy is in The base
Nice video
Umbratus and Flavus workers though are hard to differentiate without a microscope as they are the same colour and appearence
Yeah big oopsie on my side.
I mean, if you check for fresh eggs/larvae, you should be able to tell if she’s laying.
Great video man! I really like the storyline type of ant videos! In my opinion one of your best yet! 👏
Thanks man!🤗

It worked tho. In the wild the colonies are much bigger
@@EstheticAnts in the wild they have days to disguise their sent before even going in the nest
Being these queens is like playing metal gear solid at super hard mode
🤣

That is very sad!

Yeah I made an oopsie
Did it survive? I have a parasitic queen and wonder if i should collect some workers and/or pupae
Epic video as always EA sad I couldn’t be here for the premiere
Thanks man!
I too had some very low numbers of black pheidoles staying with the red ones in the planting pot. Could the black one be parasitic species?
Could be
Thanks you because I keep seeing those queens
Hehe no problem
In uk ???
Ik vond laatst ook een rode koningin, maar helaas was ze onthoofd :(
Ze had alleen een kleine kop, niet iets wat ik eerder had gezien?

Yeah these ones are pretty doable
I found the tiniest sugar ant queen after her nuptial flight. She was so small definitely wouldn't be able to contain her workers
I don't know if I have the Lasius Umbratus or the Lasius Niger since they are basiclly the same
there is a big difference.
Wow such beautiful and unique shots thx for this video Ea very very cool
ty ty
Can’t use life chat cuz on phone but I’m here in time ✌️
So cool! I really like parasitic ants 🐜
I like their behaviour idk if I like to keep them
One day I might attempt this with a Formica rufa altough I plan on staying with fully clusteral ants for until I learn more about them :)
Good idea
What do you use for indoor lighting?
I just use sunlight from my window
@@EstheticAnts ah ok lol that’s smart
Hey can you try raise a honeypot ant coloney
