    I was worrying the ants in my back yard (and the ants that would come in the summer) Were argentine ants. Now i know they are garden ants!

    I can tell you from personal experience they can have multiple queens. I recently caught 8 queens and they split up into 3 groups that are all working together taking care of the eggs

      Are there any workers? Because once the first workers arrive they will start killing the queens.

    Love your content! I’m planning on getting this exact species but I have a question about the ytong nest. How much water is recommended you put in the nest for humidity? Like a small colony would need how much water in their nest?

    • @BRUMAAnts
      @BRUMAAnts  Рік тому +3

      Hi! Don't worry about that! With my Ytong setup I usually add water only about once or twice a week. The trick is to watch the inside of the nest to understand when it's time to add new water (you can notice that by looking at the color of the Ytong: darker = OK, lighter = Add moisture) 😜

    Hi was thinking of owning some of these, but i am drawn away to the fact that the queen lives for 30 years. Does this mean i have to commit myself to taking care of them for that long?
    Great vid

    • @BRUMAAnts
      @BRUMAAnts  Рік тому +2

      Hi LFC, don't worry! The average lifespan is around 5 to 8 years, and if you live in a region where they are native, you can simply free them in the wild! 😉

    • @LFCISGOAT
      @LFCISGOAT Рік тому +1

      @@BRUMAAnts Thanks! will probably be getting a colony for these soon. what type of nest do you recommend for them?

    • @BRUMAAnts
      @BRUMAAnts  Рік тому +1

      Great! Usually the best way to keep a young colony is to simply leave it inside the original test tube. After they reach a certain amount of workers, you can start thinking about moving them inside a new nest 😉

    • @LFCISGOAT
      @LFCISGOAT Рік тому +1

      thanks, but like once i move them to a new nest, i was just wondering if lascius Niger's will burrow that much, or if i should just fill a square tank with stones and wood?

    Where would I hibernate my ants if I don't have a basement or garage and my fridge is a lot colder than 10 degrees Celsius

    • @BRUMAAnts
      @BRUMAAnts  2 роки тому +2

      Eheh... Good question! 😅
      You have to find a place in your house when the temperature remains somewhat constant. If you have a balcony you can try to put them there, maybe inside a cardboard box.

    Where do you suggest buying the queen? I want to buy one because I would probably miss the nuptial flight. Plus, I want to buy a queen because I want to start with the nanitics rather than just the queen.

    • @sagolshemashakiran2436
      @sagolshemashakiran2436 2 місяці тому

      It is completly ok to buy but you have to check the legality if the species of the ant that you order is native in your country it is ok

    • @BRUMAAnts
      @BRUMAAnts  2 місяці тому

      Hi! Yeah, no problem with buying a queen or a colony! I would suggest you check online which stores sell ants in your country. Usually it's very easy to find one! The largest ones are Ant Antics (for the UK) and Esthetic Ants (for the EU)

    Question i dont have my queen yet but I plan on finding one durning nuptial flight few questions
    Where I can get safe and not too expensive food for them
    How much time after puting queen in the test tube i should feed her after
    Do I have to worry for dangerus muschrooms or anything to start growing in colony durning hibernation?
    How much does owning of a colony cost a month after it has grown a bit
    Overall if you dont mind you could give few more tips if I get one it will be my first ant colony

    • @BRUMAAnts
      @BRUMAAnts  Рік тому

      Hi! Lasius niger only needs a source of water, sugar (in the form of sugar water or honey) and proteins (you can give them dried insects that you can easily buy online). You have to feed the colony only after the first workers start to appear, giving them small drops of sugar water and a small dose of insects. Don't worry! Ant keeping is an extremely cheap hobby! 😉

      @@tweets-r-us4748 Hi! If the humidity levels are too low, you can hydrate the nest by adding some water to the hydration system of your nest. Same thing viceversa, if the humidity level is too high, you can stop hydrating the nest 😉
