Back in college I went to a Mongolian BBQ restaurant (side note: our meals were cooked in front of us after we brought up our ingredients in a bowl). When my bowl was handed back to me, the chef accidentally tipped it and the scorching hot food all fell on my hands burning them. I still remember the manager coming in the bathroom NOT to check on me, but to start talking about how it wasn’t their fault and how I was responsible for obvious fear of a lawsuit. Finally I interrupted him to say I don’t care about whose responsible, I just want something for the burning. He went and got me some anti burn cream, and didn’t even comp the meal.
Anyways… my story doesn’t really align with yours. Just thought I would empathize with my own negative Mongolian BBQ experience.

I picked up my bottle for $200 about a month ago. It will be opened when I burn the mortgage on my house next year. A fitting occasion indeed! It hurt to pay that much for one bottle, but it finished my Michter's triple crown, with Toasted Barrel Rye and Barrel Strength Rye. I still cannot get myself to open any of them! SOON!! 😎

The house painting thing kind of happened to my brother. They hired painters, and the painters came for one day and left never to return. Their house was only partially painted, and there was a bunch of light fixtures and such pulled out to presumably paint. However, the house never got painted. My brother and his wife wound up just painting the house themselves. Oh, and they never could get their money back.
So they got brushed off? boom
Got my bottle for $250 last fall. I thought I was insane. But I do love it. Buttery spiced candy in a good way (like Werthers Originals). I don’t get the oak quite a forward as you, but it’s certainly there. If you are a rye fan you won’t be disappointed.
I've bought the more accessible - cheaper Michters Rye a few times and it always tasted more like a Bourbon to me. But I also found I would finish off the bottle pretty quick. It's just a great satisfying pour.
We had this right after the Michters Barrel Strength Rye last week and I agree. Was totally blown away by how complex and amazing this much lower proofer is. I didn't even realize it was low proof until after drinking.
Ahhh! The "what do you want to eat?" dance - I know it well. I hope one day to win a raffle also

I just scored a bottle of this in PA for Msrp and I saw it in NJ this weekend for $270. I seriously might go back and get the NJ bottle.
I’m going to do a friendly home blind of Rare breed rye, Kentucky Owl batch #4 rye and Michters 10 yr rye.
Mind blown!!!....I am, no SH!T having my house painted (eaves, shutters outside and 4 rooms inside). I'm having issues with my painter not showing or showing up whenever. When you went on about your lunch the other day and not getting your food, then busted out with the house painter scenario I felt like you were describing my life right now!

Hey Matt, I believe Michters makes one of the best rye whiskeys in America the barrel proof rye is hands down the best I've had. It's very tough to get a hold of.
Snagged one when I was visiting San Francisco for $220, which is close to the most I have paid for a bottle and have no regrets. A real tastebud tickler and would buy another @ $220.
I got the 2021 M10 rye and it was one of the best bottles I purchased last year. Plus I somehow got it under MSRP from the grocery store
Came for the whisky, left a thumbs up for the story about dinner.
Just picked up a bottle Today of the 2023 release paid MSRP $150.00

I love Mongolian BBQ. But everywhere I've done that you put it all together yourself. Then you stand next to the huge grill where it's made and the chefs hand it right back to you.
