    A true milk paint is not only water resistant but can last hundreds of years on a house. My great grandfather painted his house in 1882 with milk paint he made himself. The house has not been painted since and looks like it was painted yesterday.

    I'm kidding... What I have used is something even MORE basic. It's called Iron Oxide. Basically it's rust from factories that is mixed with pigment to give it any color you want. This is basically a stain that is mixed by dumping it into a 5 gallon bucket and mixed for a minute. You can dip wood into it, bush it on or use a sprayer for large fences or whole plywood. You can leave it as-is or put a protective coating over the top. I once saw a farmer spraying his fence deep red with it. He just walked along with a chemical hand sprayer and crudely sprayed it all. Looked good.

      +umaxen01 some rocks are full of red oxide and work well strained.

    Actually, three things changed before applying the second coat. The third being the round bowl.

    I was looking at the difference between milk paint and chalk paint... And I think there is less faffing about with chalk paint for a start it's ready mixed but I guess each to their own...

    He's referring to the fact that Polyurethane is oil based, but what he failed to take into account the there are products, that are hybrids a polyurethane that as both an oil and water base. If he doesn't know this I'd be glad to point him to a couple of top coats that are.

      He used water based poly coat. It's liquid plastic.

    May seem trivial but i have been having alot of difficulty ensuring my mitre saw is square both horizontally and vertically when in the 0 and 90 degree locked positions respectively. I would like to know hof often you check your alignment and how you make any adjustments.

    I'm looking to paint my interior trim with milk paint and I'm looking to keep sanding down to a minimum. Will this paint work without sanding the clear coat and can you bypass sanding in between coats if using a roller?

    Marc,
    Could you please explain any benefits to milk paint over the other choices out on the market? You go through some of the difficulties of using it, which makes it seem like a strictly inferior product. Thanks

    • @1Howdy1
      @1Howdy1 10 років тому

      No such thing as inferior when it comes to aesthetics. Seen the chalk board paint women are going nuts over? We would like to think the firewood we build will stand the test of time and impress everyone who gazes upon it, but some people see it as possibly looking like an orange crate with the right amount of cheap paint, to help frame their plants or whatever..

      +Mark Gunther its a true traditional.....white wash.

    • @dart70ca
      @dart70ca 7 років тому +4

      Well, it's non-toxic, doesn't smell, dries fast, tougher than most or all modern paints, sticks to bare wood like a stain, sands well, weathers better than most modern paints. You can make it in your kitchen with some milk, citric acid and handfull of rust scraped off the bumper of your truck.

  • @JakobHoldensen
    @JakobHoldensen 2 роки тому

    you don't need the acrylic product if it is real milk paint. It works out door so.. But it takes a week to be totaly dry and doesn't come off. But I'm missing the lin seed oil...

    • @woodwhisperer

      Depends on how rough it is. Go with the finest grit that gets the surface smooth. I used 220.

  • @kellerrobert80

    Just a protip: The guest's eyes should be looking in one of two places: at the host, or at the subject being discussed. You should be looking at the hosts eyes or the paint/wood/whatever is on the table--not at the camera or wandering around the room. And turn your head. You cut your eyes too much. America's Test Kitchen on PBS is a good example. It's gonna feel odd (VERY ODD) but it will produce a better show. For example, at 1:03. you look at his face then drop your eyes. Don't do this. Plus. If SHE is doing the work, SHE should do the VO. And I got the joke at 2:33.

    • @woodwhisperer
      @woodwhisperer  8 років тому +13

      +kellerrobert80 to be honest, for the amount of time Nicole spends in front of the camera with me, I can't say it's exactly worth her time to worry about where her eyes are looking. Sure it would make for a more professional TV-style presentation, but we're not on TV and we're not professional "hosts." The joy of being on the internet is that we don't have to adhere to the same rules as television. I could hop on one leg with my pants down while looking around the room and as long as the video is informative and entertaining, it will do well.
