  • Toys R Us is closing its doors for good. The toy emporium that Charles P. Lazarus envisioned has been reduced to dusty floors and empty shelves.
Much has been said about the demise of the toy empire, which announced its plan to liquidate. There have been fingers pointed at corporate raiders, Amazon and big-box stores. All contributed to its undoing.
Ultimately, though, Toys R Us' collapse is a story of loyalty run dry. The store in its early days fostered devotion from customers and toymakers. In the end, it lost hold on both.

When I was a young man I worked at Toys R Us while going to tech school. After a little over twenty years working at another career and becoming partially disabled I could not do my career anymore.I went back to Toys R Us and with my disabilities they hired me and I worked there for three years before becoming fully disabled.I want to thank Toys R Us for working with me during a rough part of my life. They were very kind and patient with me.I want to thank John and Mike (sorry they may not want there last names on here) for helping me and I wish them the best in their future endeavors. They were a "TRU" (Toys R Us) Family.

In my opinion, they didn't have to close all their stores. They could have survived. All they had to do was close their Babies R Us stores and free standing traditional size stores. They could have left all their smaller express stores open in the shopping malls. The express stores were much smaller and only had toys, games, and game systems just like all the traditional stores did when previous generations were growing up with Toys R Us in the decades past. I think the express stores would have gotten enough business during the holidays that the company could have emerged from bankruptcy and come out in decent shape. Eventually, they could have opened more express stores in other shopping malls as time went on and they got to be in better financial shape. The rent on an express store would have been much cheaper than their traditional size freestanding stores because they would have been using much less square footage.
