Unicorn Overlord - Switch vs PS5 Graphics Comparison

- I am still unsure which version of Unicorn Overlord I want, so I made this video to share to hopefully help some others like me decide if the difference in resolution is enough to not have it as a portable option. Also making the assumption PS5 and Xbox Series X are the same visually.
So which version is everyone getting? The PS5 (and I assume XB Series X) is for sure sharper and has ever so slightly better load times, but is it enough to not have it with me at all times.... 🤔
Which version did you buy in the end?
Got my copy on cartridge for Switch today, ~20% cheaper than the eShop price here in Sweden atleast. :)

@@usaliengames9810Just made the choice over lunch and went with Switch. I have an OLED TV and OLED Switch so will look good docked or undocked. I was comparing more pics I had took and rewatching the video. Just not enough difference for me to go PS5 for it.
I played the entire game while at work on my iPad Pro 6 w 5GUW (Verizon) using Xbox Remote Play, was flawless; no Switch required
fullscreen 4k you can tell the resolution is higher on PS5, that's about it. Saturation will depend on the user console/tv settings so it's irrelevant. Unless the PS5 version has HDR then it will pop more there but we can't tell from this video because it wasn't uploaded in HDR.
It doesn't support HDR on PS5 natively
So just stick to SDR as creator game intended
Thanks for the comparison! It's very well done. Decided to go for the Switch version for portability and I'm still using my old 1080p tv for console gaming anyway lol
But the PS5 in 4K looks very sharp and crisp. The difference is night and day when the video is set to full screen at 2160. Really looked like a moving painting.
A game like this is wonderful on Switch. That OLED screen is among the best in the handheld industry, and this game looks great on the hardware!

Thanks for the video! I was thinking about getting this on PS5, as I recently bought one and only have FF7R. But I think this game would be much better suited to play in bed on the Switch.
The Switch version is what I settled on and has been great. I finished FF7R before moving on to it. Two amazing games back to back.
I'm getting it on both but, will probably play most of it on the Switch as it's not that big of a difference.
PS5 Chiaki with steam deck is how im playing and its the best of both worlds :)

Looks the same as far as I can see, very good looking game in handheld mode on the Switch Oled model. These type of games feels like they were made to be played on Switch, for some reson...
It’s hardly noticeable unless you wanna be nitpicky and use the zoom in feature of the switch to count against the switch version.
Imo, I’ll pick up the switch version for handheld mode, the OLED model is definitely the best experience to play it too since it’s similar to the PSvita when you experience some of VW’s ports on that system.
Yea. They both look great even if the switch is not as sharp. I might get the PS5 version though since I have a portal also. Planned to buy it tonight so have to decide quick 😂

Because they use only 2d sprites which is not graphically intensive at all. Perfect for my silly little plastic brick with a screen
This is a great video. I was afraid it was going to be another AI generated fake as they seem to be all over UA-cam for this game.
I've been struggling with this (first world) decision for a couple of days! LOL. The Switch version looks great but the lower quality is visible to scrutiny when docked to a 4k screen. Trophies on PS5, portability on Switch... it might be a literal coin toss before I make up my mind. :D
I actually decided to make the video because all I could find was these weird AI voice overs of the same footage 😂 so you are not alone.

Yeah me too. So annoyed with all those fake videos. And with them hiding the dislike count it's harder to know if it's a legit video or not.
Colors are great on switch. I can see the difference with the fps between both. However, on some 4k tv, a light upscaling do the trick. The details are more pronounce but not that much it seems. Seeing the difference that is little, portability wins. Ty for the comparison. Also... Yeah also, maybe the switch 2 will upscale old games.
Yea another reason I went with Switch, the possibility of Switch 2 enhancing Switch games or publishers updating for it
If youre struggling to see the difference than the Switch is the way to go since its can be played anywhere.
Or maybe steam deck 😂 it can upscale and run at 60 fps
Not gonna lie, I kinda prefer the colours on the switch compared to the PS5, if the load times aren’t too different on the switch, then I think it’s worth choosing the switch

I barely notice any lengthy loading times. As far as the demo is concerned.
The load difference is barely noticeable. I saw it slicing and dicing the video but if I wasn’t doing that, not sure I would have noticed or cared.
A little of the color difference could be from it being recorded in HDR on the PS5 vs OBS and Elgato from Switch.
the assets are surprisingly the same resolution on the Switch. Impressive.
They are for sure sharper on the PS5. Just depends if it’s enough for you to care when deciding between the two.
that's interesting, why is the PS5 version more muted in it's brightness?
I will say it stands out more on the video then the TV. I can only think its how its handling HDR on PS5. I was just switching between the Switch and PS5 version on my TV and the TV shows HDR is enabled when it switches to the PS5 version. Also the PS5 video was in HDR I pulled into Davinchi Resolve. Its not so much muted as a little brighter (like the tv brightness was raised), which I think in turn makes the art look not as bright if that makes sense. So I guess it would depend on the type of TV you play on.
Yeah leaving hdr enabled then putting onto a non-hdr format or platform heavily muddies the comparison
@Codex0nz UA-cam supports HDR and the video was done in HDR but unfortunately that seemed to be lost in translation on the upload to YT. Lessons learned. Next time I will make sure absolutely sure before publishing.

I can see a significant difference using my 2k monitor. PS5 version is obviously much clearer.
However, if you use a 1080p-only monitor, I think the difference should be very little (or even the same).
I don’t have a PS5, so I can only buy the NS version~

Yea, I think it really only matters if you play in 4K in PS5. That’s why I made sure to actually upload this in 4K from the PS5 recording and hey, it got me to actually figure out the 4K/HDR settings in Davinchi resolve. So win win.

The sharpness is correct. Unfortunately it was my first attempt at HDR in YT and that screwed me on the upload. It’s been discussed already in the comments. I have since learned how to properly handle it going forward.
Theres difference there0s more definition on the PS5 models than Switch, it is not that noticeable though, hmmm I think I will buy Switch version just because you can play anywhere. But yes I am tempt to get the PS5 version just to enjoy the graphics.

I was thinking of doing this as well but ultimately went with Switch. Can’t go wrong either way though!

No clue. I don't think any of their stuff is though which is a shame all around. According to the interview below, it was a Vanillaware thing, maybe not enough money/resources? Seems like it would be a perfect fit on PC.

Unicorn Overlord is heading to PlayStation, Xbox Series consoles, and Switch, but not to PC - is there any reason in particular you chose not to aim for PC at launch? Has there been any discussion about a PC port later on?
Yamamoto: As a publisher, we would like to deliver it to PC users as well, but per our agreement with Vanillaware, we are only releasing on console. In other words, there are no plans to port it to PC currently.
I don't think Dragon's Crown came out for PC either which would have been an awesome Steam Deck game. I loved playing it on the Vita. The OLED makes this game look so good on Switch.

Vanillaware never makes PC ports. It's the CEO's decision.
You could always just run it on a Switch Emulator
