@DrBygstan I believe that one was already broken but yes you need to be as careful as possible not to break them. If you break 1 or 2 your panel will still go back together.

@Rodjew You can on some vehicles. I'm not sure on this particular one. You might need to ask the dealer if it's possible.
@The1JollyRoger You don't have to. However when ever you work on anything electrical on a vehicle it wouldn't hurt to disconnect the battery just to be on the safe side.

I had to park on the street on a snowy night and forgot to close my driver side mirror. well it was chipped up pretty badly by a snow plow. I'm so glad it wasnt worse. this video has given meconfidence to tackle this task on my own. I have a 2009 and will do more research on the differences of the 08 and 09. Thank you so much!

Only difference with the OEM replacement mirror is that it didn't come with the rubber grommet that goes around the mirror wiring harness.
Thanks for this! Same thing here. On the rubber grommet - I just cut the tubing off of it, then cut out the center of the nipple where I could still use it and fit the plug through it, worked just fine. One other thing to mention - get some extra yellow door panel clips in advance. I broke one pulling the door off...you may have to pry some out of the door too. Also, you don't need to disconnect the door latch and window rods, extra un-necessary step.
You do not need to take the door totally off to change the side mirror.
The rods and power harness need not be disconnected.
All you need is access to the bolts to take off the mirror.

Yes,you are correct.all you really need to do is pop out the little cosmetic plug covering the Phillips screwdriver,remove that screw,and remove the T25 Torx screw behind the inside door handle.The top of the door panel will flex away from the door frame to easily expose the mirror harness plug,foam rubber cover triangle,and then the three 10mm nuts holding the mirror on.I did it in less than 20 minutes.Now having done it,I think I could do it in five minutes.It's that simple.
The steps should be the same. Not sure if the vehicle is pre-wired from the factory with the heat option. You may want to check with the dealer on enabling that option.

You may want to see if there's something that could be bent and hitting the door panel when you put it back on the door.

Thank you for this great video. I was able to replace the mirror myself. The only problem was getting the door panel back on. After comparing it to the passenger side door, I figured it out. My husband is in for a surprise!

Just replaced my wife's passenger side it was easier then I thought. I only had to remove the screws and two top door panel clips they came out nicely. I had back up clips I bought a bag of 14 (door takes 11) didn't have to use them. Once I did that little bit I was able to get at the nuts. The power connector was at the top so it was easily disconnected. My hardest part was fining my star bit for the screw in the handle which was a t-25 and the socket for the nuts which was a 10mm. The ice in my tea hadn't even melted before I was done .....
Unfortunately we do not have that vehicle available to us at this time so the video would not be able to be made for awhile but we will make a note of it for a future video.
This video is great and I think it should be included on your website under the Jeep parts. As of now there is no access to this video through your website. That would really help. Just ordered some parts for this.

Great video! I followed the steps and everything went well. I'm having problems with the door lock though, the button is stuck. I remove the door panel and everything works fine. I put the panel back on and the button doesn't move. Have you run into this problem before? I cannot see anything that would obstruct the functionality of the door lock. Help me open my eyes.

If your jeep (mine is a 2004) driver side mirror is non heated can you replace it with a heated mirror...

I had that question as well, and from other websites I have seen that the WJ heated and non-heated mirrors are interchangeable. It seems like to save money, Jeep put the heated mirror wiring in the Laredos and just put non heated mirrors. The heated mirrors just work of the rear defroster.

You may need to remove the door panel on your 1997 Cherokee to access the bolts that hold the mirror in place. We do carry replacement mirrors on our website with free shipping. I bought a replacement unit for my '04 Jeep. Wire lengths were half the distance and couldn't install. Seller said "auto dim" was the culprit, but box said '97-01, and I ordered 99-04. Is this guy telling the truth? Would the 97-01 have fit if I hadn't had "auto dim"?
