The best video I have seen for how to do this. Thank you for the clear instructions and great visuals. I'm considering doing this myself and this will be my go-to guide on how to do it. Thanks!!
Another UA-cam channel that doesn’t respond to the viewers when they ask a question. excellent, I’m doing the exact same cutting and would like some advice but I guess I won’t waste my time asking any questions 👏🏻
I love how easy everything is when you have 4 hands and every special tool known to man.
this has a lot of common tools almost every house has. if you dont have a plastic welder or a soldering iron use the end of a hot glue gun to melt it down. if you need to trim the inside of the dash you could use a file and maybe tin snips. if that seems like too much work then you might want a new hobby lol
Thanks for this video, it helped me a ton!! This install is not for the beginner!!
I have to apologize guys. I just found out what the term "trolling on the internet" means. I missed used the term on a comment awhile back. I was trying to say I search the internet to find information, continue learning and grow to better myself as a installer. thank you for taking the time to make these videos and sharing your knowledge and experiences. I'm a big fan....keep the videos coming.
Man you guys do some awesome work 👍
Very detailed video all question answered great video guys
Great work guys!
Enjoyed the video. Wish I had the diy- know-how. Reviewed for curiosity since a friend in
Venezuela wants me to send him a Jeep radio. Would be nice if not so hard to send him this entire set. Great Video....Thanks
Do you have a video showing what you removed from the dash?
Great content. Thank you.
What did you have to trim on the top of the inner vents to keep the radio from pushing up in the back?
You guys are great. I subscribed.
That kit looks sad, a real dog’s breakfast, though. I’d rather mod the factory or single din...
🤣😂 a dog's breakfast
Beautiful Work Guys!
Excellent explanations and video shooting was very clear. I do have one question: Can I connect the OEM Jeep 10 disc CD changer (mounted in the rear cargo wall)? If so, how would I connect it, maybe an AUX?
Great video what size of doble din stereo was and brand ?
Nice Vid , I am replacing a 9 year old single DIN that replaced my factory radio and although it would be easiest and cheapest to simply replace the single DIN I put in there, I'll be going the double DIN touchscreen route as you have (2001 Grand Cherokee). Your vid will be helpful. .
I am installing a pioneer double din in my 02 grand Cherokee now. Having a hard time with fitment. I’ve cut plenty of the plastic above and behind. I have also trimmed above the vents on the lower section. I feel like I need to cut the bottom floor area in behind the dash because it’s ramping the rear of the stereo up and not allowing it to slide all the way in. Just a little hesitant it will damage the venting ducts.
I would likw to say that guys make a good videos. Quick question what kind of soldering equipment do you guyz use? TIA
I just bought a JGC a few weeks ago and was wondering what my radio options were. Good to know that if i wanted to i could swap in a double din radio and honestly might be the route im gonna end up going. Downside is i have no tools of skills for this. How much did yall charge for this so i can have an idea what im looking at for having this done?
Really good install ...
Will you guys ever do a jeep TJ/LJ stereo upgrade video?
Like alway fantastic great I’ve got one lined up to install
Even if its from one of the odd ball makers and its not the greatest made, you have to admit that its nice that not everyone is left out if they want a double din. To bad they dont make one forca 2002 Ford Taurus.
I wish I had found this video before I modified mine :) However, I did mine a little differently as I did not like the idea of supporting the radio with the bezel so I modified the brackets to attach the radio to the dash like the OEM. Note that you do not need special tools, a drill, side cutting pliers and a small round file are all you need.
Hi, I am currently trying to do the same thing to my 96 Grand Cherokee Laredo. Any ideas?
i have 3 yellow wires and 3 black wires, 4 if i include the other ground connection that’s with the steering wheel controls, do i connect all 3 or leave 1 out?
My jeep liberty 2003 has two yellow and black wires on the factory wiring harness that plugs into the vehicle. So the two yellow should be twisted together and connected to single yellow wire on the radio harness then solder together? Same with both black ground as well? Does it creates a short? Also i noticed that the factory wiring harness is little thicker than the radio harness. Does it creates any overheating issue on the radio wiring since the factory wiring is little more thicker? I am trying to do it safe. Any tips will be appreciated.
hola, excelente video, donde puedo comprar la carcasa, Gracias
Would this work for a 1997 jeep grand cherokee
Do the steering wheel radio control work with the radio with out the control box
good video for sure
hi, the steering command always working ?
Metra makes a better version of this kit and my vents didn't need to be melted into place. They fit like a glove!! The Metra version uses tabs instead of rods, so it is like the factory bezel.
The Metra bezel also has clips to attach the new bezel to the sides.
The dash will take a pound of flesh. You have to do a LOT of hacking as it is way overbuilt in that area.
Also, make sure you get the right harness. There is one for 99-01, one for 02-04 without and one for 02-04 with the factory amp.
Can you make a video on how to replace or upgrade the stock amplifier in a Jeep Grand Cherokee from 1998 to 2004.
Nice job! I'm doing same project using the factory bezel obviously after some modifications and wood grain 3M wrapping,After calling 3 stereo shops they all saying it won't fit
Do your steering wheel controls still work tho??
Hello,
Thank you for your demonstration, I have a vehicle Jepp Grand Cherokee WJ year 2002, and I really want to replace the car, while keeping the controls behind the wheel.
Thank you for any useful information
I came here just to look for that myself for the same reason you have.
Great work my friends. Did you get some jacuzzi parts too? ;)
Can you go back to stock after this install?
This class is aways awesome
More information - WJs don't like radios with a lot of depth, especially if it has header connectors for the RCA connectors or if you are using a Metra or PAC SWC box.
What brand touch screen is this an size screen
Hope your hand heals well brother!
Have you guys ever done a double din in a 1999 and up vw beetle ?? There's enough room to build a house inside the dashboard
So how much was that install with modifications???
was the wire harness original with the Jeep?
HUGELY helpful BUT dies anyone have more detail on trimming the dash.....not clear what we are doing there. Please advise. Thanks!!!
Hey Dean! You didn't put heatshrink on the antenna adapter☺ Just kidding☺☺☺ Nice video again. Take Care Guys!
Great instructional video!!! I’m struggling so I’ll just pay someone lol
This is great. My father buys and sells these because can be bought for $1200. So my nephews who are both less than 18 are driving them.
Do you know of a double din dash kit for a Jeep Cherokee XJ 97-01? I haven't seen one online and last Jeep I did had to be fabricated.
Thomas Byers: As soon as I saw this video, I went to amazon via the link and then searched the seller to find a ‘97 - ‘01 XJ kit as well! Sadly, no dice . . .
There's A lot involved when converting an xj over. It takes skill time and patience. You've gotta trim the bezel cut and re construct air ducts
Am I limited to certain double din players or any double players will fit
metra makes a dash kit for this now!! its half the price(around 30 bucks) and it actually comes with instructions. it's also alot better of plastic it has a rubbery feel to it or like vinyl texture. I've done like 4 of these in the past and I recently just did one with the new metra kit and it fits so much better.

Installing an Alpine ilx-w650 in my 2002 WJ. This unit is only 3” deep. Have done most of my homework but want to know about the upper trimming. Can you shed some light? Thanks
Thank you for your help. I was enjoying my project until I put the jeep in drive. A blue screen came across the screen with REVERSING. What I need to do? If you have an email I'll send you a picture of what I'm talking about.
Nice work guys, your vids just keep getting better and are really informative.
Both of our WJs (2002 overland and a sport) have a factory amp under the passenger rear seat that I was led to believe will not work with anything other than the factory radio because of some oddball volume adjustment method ...or something like that but you just plugged in and it works. Was that install without a factory amp still in place?
The oddball amp claim may be nonsense if this install just worked out that well.
This is an old comment, but if you still need an answer. It's pretty much plug and play, I did repin the steering wheel control wire, but that was it.
sociopath Could you link to a wiring diagram/instructions on the re-pin? Thanks
Keith Edginton I used Metra ASWC-1 and it shows to splice into the factory wire I can't recall the color. Instead of splicing I pulled the illumination wire that my Kenwood does not use labeled it and reinstalled it in the corresponding hole to match the factory wire.
I have an 02 Overland myself and there is a specific harness for it. Metra 70-6503
Just for anyone coming across this, I did put in a Pioneer with CarPlay and it works fine. Factory amp and all. Used a metra kit for the steering wheel controls but rest was plug and play.
Okay I tried this and my radio doesn't line up well enough to sit flush with the bezel
what are the measurements of the screen??
I like 5 star car guys but c'mmmon man!!!
what up guys have y'all ever put in dub nin. in a older 2003 dodge durango
Scottie Luther they make a double din dash kit for them but it cost 200 or more because you have to replace the whole dash panel
if that kit is made for that jeep why the hell u gotta do all that cutting?
were there some extra things you ran into that made the cutting necessary or is that to be expected for anyone at all wanting to do this??
Keldren Raze he doing to much I can order a kit for my wj perfect fit to
@@Cmullins1994 what kit is that and where from? I'd love to look into it.
He had to do all that cutting because the radio being installed is a double DIN. It's a bit bigger than the single DIN he took out.
I agree. If the kit was made for the radio and Jeep... Then why all the extra work! What if I don't have all the tools or expertise to do this. Not worth the money or effort.
@@jakeoldfield7233 it's actually a 1.5 din but yes..
What make you guys a cut above the rest, a lot of the top installers in my area instead of doing all that you do to make a radio fit, will straight up tell you it won't fit.
Wow... Its like i ordered myself from McDonald's...
I was parked in San Francisco and now I know how those guys got the radio out so fast. It's only four screws
I need you guys to work on my jeep
how can i install a double din in a 1997 jeep grand Cherokee?
Hi, just installed a Pioneer double DIN in my 1994 ZJ GC. Had to do some cutting to the inside of the dash and the trim cover. Came out pretty good. Email me if you want to see the finish product. gavdavis@comcast.net
Gavert Davis hi can you do a video the how you do it? I'm noob in this area and I want to install a 2 din in my 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Sorry but I did not make any videos, however you have to trim top and bottom inside dash and around the face trim then fab brackets for both sides. If you want to see how it looks after install just email me at the above email.
Would have been awesome for you to show how annoying it is to get to the parking brake wire.
i had one of these kits. they gave me thr wrong screws so the posts snapped. so i did a janky solution to mount the stereo. i ended up removing it because i wasnt happy with it
sparten 9999 my kit didn't even come with screws
Only thing I did different was added some Fuze it in addition to the plastic welding so there is no chance of rattling from any of it
+Jesse Steele 👍
So why didn't you use Metra?
Do they sell a double din kit for 2005 dodge durango??
+vince limonez yes check out the Metra 95-6533b
Five Star Car Stereo thanks helped alot
Could you have modified the factory dash?
Dewayne Curle you can but it's a lot of work to make it look right. The kit is well worth the price to get a finished look in the end.
I did the same thing on an install and just created a new Instagram at livingloudlee. Nice video new sub!
Hi from Australia ! How much is the kit to do the job (materials) thanks. Knowing you made this video a cupla years ago leave room for inflation. Over here they want an arm an leg and ya wallet.
Does dean own 5 Star?
Install a double din in a jeep grand cherokee zj model
Looks like I’m rockin a stock radio lol
Things have changed, 12-17-2020, $32 direct, $75 from Amazon.
This latin guy looks a lot like Efren Ramírez and Carlos Ramírez from Nacho libre.
Man, that knuckle looks painful... Looks like mine, literally every time I work on my cars
Sorry about the noise it's just the leaf blower
From watching your videos, it seems like you guys don't bother with disconnecting the battery when putting a new unit in. I don't think I'll bother with it either then.
Maybe when I bring my 2013 Grand Cherokee with all my gear they'll make a video
First woohoo
+fat catt 39 🎉🎉🎉👍😊
A jeep without 4 wheel lmfaoooooo that double din worth more than the suv👏👏
Hopefully you start medical attention for that hand
Wtf? Might as well just fabricate your existing panel instead of waste your money and time getting aftermarket
