We see this when Padme goes to Scipio accompanied by Shock Troopers. This downturn could also further facilitate Palpatine's introduction of the Red Guard.

I think the only time i see the senate guard do well was when Ashoka was escaping mandalore with lux. They were happy to protect her and fight off the droids. Thats the only time they don’t fight anyone on the most wanted list in TCW. Can’t blame them for losing to top of the line bounty hunters. Jedi and clones struggle to fight/capture them as well.
Even though they served as blaster fodder for most of the show, you gotta appreciate their armor design. Some of the coolest in the Star War universe in my opinion. I assume they were based off of the Praetorian guards of Rome, as they are notoriously portrayed as inept and traitors, killing emperors on numerous occasions.
Every army or security force is strong as long as it have the "what you know and what you can do" requirements and when that is replaced by "who do you know and who was your daddy" than all of them go to shit. Not only in Star Wars but also in real life and history.
I don't think they're bad, I just think they suffer from a common injustice in the series called "We need to think of an artificial way to keep the plot moving" syndrome. They fail because the plot needs them to fail. It's a bit like unnamed clones - If two unnamed clones are guarding something, it's practically a guarantee that they'll be wildly incompetent and end up dying. This show as a whole just has a tendency of making people too incompetent to win rather than coming up with witty, tactical ways for the enemy to overcome the challenge. Almost every villain suffers from it, sometimes the heroes suffer from it.
Pragmatically, as soon as the Clone Wars started, the Senate guard should have been _replaced with Clone troopers._ [Maybe even some veterans that had lost limbs and had cybernetic leg replacements as commanders, since they probably couldn't run as fast as regular clones out in the field]. And even a few junior Jedi as first assignments, they can still Force control minds and sense danger. Besides they will get a chance to hang with Clones and understand them before having to work with Clones on the battlefield, where it's too busy to learn how they think - getting on well with Clones is a skill, just like gaining familiarity with a person. And the Clones can help explain the basics of their military doctrine, so the Jedi won't accidentally get a bunch killed out in the field on their first few missions. On a side note, what did the Senate guard do when Order 66 came down?
The Coruscant guard were a group of Clone troopers; they were basically Palestine’s personal security service. I think they could’ve been used to protect the senate.

I think the biggest reasons for their incompetence were internal corruption, lack of formal training, and the fact they were expected to go against troublemakers and assassins, not trained warriors
The senate guard is one of my favorite things in all of Star Wars lore. As much as i loved the clone wars i really hated to see them use the guard as a joke and then flesh them out by making one of their leaders a traitor. It’s a shame that every time the writers need to make someone look like an idiot for something cool to happen it was almost always the guard.
Uhh... Clone Wars is also a part of Legends, the whole series is in this weird position when is from both Legends and Canon, like the original 6 movies

Grievous; Maul; Dooku being a complete and total douchebag, uber-evil villain instead of a morally complex and complicated anti-hero/villain depending on your perspective; clone ranks, training and lore; Mandalorians and countless other things are all completely different from the actual Legends stories out there and they both cannot exist simultaneously.

this is exactly why the clone wars TV series isn't cannon lol. you can't just casually park on the senate building and shoot guards in broad daylight. people are going to see you and soon the Coruscant police system will have shock troopers and jedi come over and arrest you. plus there'd already be waaayy more security to start with.
One other event that you didn’t cover was on Mandore. I don’t remember the name of the episode, but it was the one that Ashoka saves Lux Bontairi from commando droids, and when they are fleeing we see the senate commandos being obliterated by the droids.

They are basically police honor guard of a peacetime government that were not battle hardened, Why train an elite guard unit when most plants have their own defense forces.

I agree, the Senate Guard were pretty useless in The Clone Wars, but the only time they weren't useless was when Ahsoka and Lux were being pursued by Commando Droids and the Senate Guard covered their escape while the two of them escaped Mandalore.
Even a lamp shade can hold symbolism. i feel that was their primary purpose, to grant those around them a sense of peace and control with having them around. Believing in the notion that the guards should be, but only represented.

agreed, in general i think that every republic planet should have built up there own military cause in the clone wars as you have said many times before they where massively outnumbered. it would have been useful if the republic planets had there own defense forces and didn't 100% rely on the clones to come and rescue them or defended them. in general the war would have ended a lot sooner if the republic planets had defense forces this would have never happened. still the clones are amazing and I have teared up every time i see one in season 7 so far
The simple reason they weren’t prepared because thought that an attack could not happen and it did, Cad Bane used fear and that caused everyone to go into panic mode and not beef up the senate’s defences.
Considering the only time we actually see them fight, it happens to be against ridiculously powerful bounty hunters that even carve through clones, and even had to face Asajj Ventress, I wouldn’t expect much. I personally love the Senate Commandos, I just wish we saw them face less OPAF opponents
There are so many different things that had they been even slightly different they whole series would be different That’s what made Star Wars movies made by Lucas so cool and what Disney mainly lacks as well as the ability to understand that not all major characters have to be force sensitive or be related to a force sensitive

This would explain why Jaller Obrim left to join the ATU, which helped the Republic Commandos a LOT (and, by extension, saved his family, since they later evacced him and his family before the Empire could purge them). The Senate Guard was too incompetent for a man like Obrim to stay.
I remember the guide books for Episodes 1 and 2 (prior to Clone Wars) stating that the weaponry of the Senate Guards was unwieldy and mostly for ceremonial purposes. In other words, they were originally just for show.

The Coruscant guard were a group of Clone troopers; they were basically Palestine’s personal security service. I think they could’ve been used to protect the senate.

they replaced the senate guard almost entirely considering they outnumbered them as well as being better trained and not susceptible to bribes the senate guard only stuck around because of tradition and having already been established in the republic

I think the biggest reasons for their incompetence were internal corruption, lack of formal training, and the fact they were expected to go against troublemakers and assassins, not trained warriors
The senate guard is one of my favorite things in all of Star Wars lore. As much as i loved the clone wars i really hated to see them use the guard as a joke and then flesh them out by making one of their leaders a traitor. It’s a shame that every time the writers need to make someone look like an idiot for something cool to happen it was almost always the guard.
The Legends Senate Commandos are actually pretty good at their job

People may claim that, Wookieepedia included, but that's just not the case. There's far too many contradictions in Filoni's TCW to be included in Legends. Grievous; Maul; Dooku being a complete and total douchebag, uber-evil villain instead of a morally complex and complicated anti-hero/villain depending on your perspective; clone ranks, training and lore; Mandalorians and countless other things are all completely different from the actual Legends stories out there and they both cannot exist simultaneously.

as an astetic choice it invokes old glory, and the sheer age of the guard itself. The flipside is it fits perfectly with how outdated, corrupt, and weak the once glorious guard had become.
Palpatine might have had a hand in the terrible performance of the guard, he seems to get his hands everywhere else.

this is exactly why the clone wars TV series isn't cannon lol. you can't just casually park on the senate building and shoot guards in broad daylight. people are going to see you and soon the Coruscant police system will have shock troopers and jedi come over and arrest you. plus there'd already be waaayy more security to start with.
One other event that you didn’t cover was on Mandore. I don’t remember the name of the episode, but it was the one that Ashoka saves Lux Bontairi from commando droids, and when they are fleeing we see the senate commandos being obliterated by the droids.
Clone wars and rebels are like a video game that has been set on super easy where the story characters have cheat codes on, nothing is a challenge to them.

They are basically police honor guard of a peacetime government that were not battle hardened, Why train an elite guard unit when most plants have their own defense forces.

Probably remained in the Senate building. They have to business with the Jedi and they don't interfere with whatever the clones were doing
I agree, the Senate Guard were pretty useless in The Clone Wars, but the only time they weren't useless was when Ahsoka and Lux were being pursued by Commando Droids and the Senate Guard covered their escape while the two of them escaped Mandalore.
To be fair nobody can win against characters with plot armor. The senate guard never stood a chance :(
I actually liked Senate Commandos, and when I was little I was mad at and started to hate the bounty hunters for killing them.

Judging anyone against Cad Bane is kinda unfair. He’s the best of the best, so it makes sense that anyone would be beneath him.
Even a lamp shade can hold symbolism. i feel that was their primary purpose, to grant those around them a sense of peace and control with having them around. Believing in the notion that the guards should be, but only represented.
I'm so upset. Because Senate guards were cool in my opinion and I liked them. But when I was a kid and watched the episode I felt so bad for them. I almost cried because I felt bad how they were just slaughtered.

I believe those Senate guards with a broom on the helmet and a cape 0:01 were much more elite than the senate commandos 0:45 . They commandos should be the senate equivalent of clone troopers.

agreed, in general i think that every republic planet should have built up there own military cause in the clone wars as you have said many times before they where massively outnumbered. it would have been useful if the republic planets had there own defense forces and didn't 100% rely on the clones to come and rescue them or defended them. in general the war would have ended a lot sooner if the republic planets had defense forces this would have never happened. still the clones are amazing and I have teared up every time i see one in season 7 so far
Planetary Defence Forces (Or Militias) are a thing in star wars but they're not as used as they should be nor were they very centralized.
They were very good at very one thing getting killed and not protecting their targets...

The simple reason they weren’t prepared because thought that an attack could not happen and it did, Cad Bane used fear and that caused everyone to go into panic mode and not beef up the senate’s defences.

Considering the only time we actually see them fight, it happens to be against ridiculously powerful bounty hunters that even carve through clones, and even had to face Asajj Ventress, I wouldn’t expect much. I personally love the Senate Commandos, I just wish we saw them face less OPAF opponents

Snooshy 16 clones were trained all their life, senate commandos were trained for 4 weeks. Not even army grunts on our earth get that little training.

There are so many different things that had they been even slightly different they whole series would be different

This gets to stress how strong and brave Clone Troopers were compared to lesser men.
This would explain why Jaller Obrim left to join the ATU, which helped the Republic Commandos a LOT (and, by extension, saved his family, since they later evacced him and his family before the Empire could purge them). The Senate Guard was too incompetent for a man like Obrim to stay.
I remember the guide books for Episodes 1 and 2 (prior to Clone Wars) stating that the weaponry of the Senate Guards was unwieldy and mostly for ceremonial purposes. In other words, they were originally just for show.
