May I just say, this channel is amazing because it's as if they read my mind about what videos I want! I love the amount of love Grievous my favourite character gets on this channel, thank you!
I think Grievous is a really underrated villain in Star Wars. People tend to think of him as a comedic villain who constantly gets bested. I think the Clone Wars did make him too much of a laughing stock, but it was still important to show his weakness and ridiculousness. I like Grievous because he is a being fully rejecting life in favor for technology. He exemplifies the belief that technology is infallible and it’s a solution for everything.
In all the sources I’ve checked, not one says Soresu is the most common. It was popular while other forms came into being but that Niman was the most common especially during the Clone Wars. Shi-Cho came in second vis-à-vis Niman in number of sources stating it was the most common (and it was the oldest). Not one I’ve been able to find states Soresu.
From what I know, Shi-Cho is the first taught to all Jedi initiates/younglings. Niman was the most common before the start of the Clone Wars, but fell out of favor when every single Niman user died on Geonosis.
Obi-Wan was truly one of the best Jedi around. He was compassionate, had a great sense of humor, and he showed how Jedi could have friends and even a loved one without falling to the dark side, not by rejecting emotions like so Jedi tried, but by understanding, he had them and controlling them. And he did all just by being himself, never trying to be anything else. He knew he couldn't be Qui-Gon, Anakin, Mace, Yoda, Shaak Ti, and so on, if he tried he would only fail, and as Yoda once said, "Do or do not there is no try." This line, much like the Jedi Code itself is often misinterpreted, as its being taken a little too literally, saying you shouldn't practice and put effort into things because that requires trying, and like the Jedi you must strive for balance between the literal and the metaphorical. Jedi are all about practice, meditation, and improvement, that requires effort and trying, what Yoda says and Obi-Wan represents as one of the greatest Jedi is understanding what one can do and what they can't do. Obi-Wan can't be like all those other Jedi I mentioned, but he can be himself and be the best version of himself by improving, trying, and learning even as a Master, since as we see with him and Anakin or Anakin and Ahsoka, the student teaches the master just as much as the master teaches the student. That's why he could beat Grievous, because he didn't give into fear and try to be something he's not by fighting on Grevious's terms, he just had to be himself and play to his own strengths as a Jedi not try to play to some else's strengths. Also a factor in his victory was his understanding and bond with he Force. When it comes to the Force many, even some Jedi, struggle with trusting it completely. As letting something else control you could take away you're own autonomy, stripping away you're free will, and whose to say this other force in control of you has your best intentions at heart and isn't just going to sacrifice you and leave you high and dry. These are all valid concerns, of course, but when it comes to the Force itself, and by extension the Jedi that wield it at least the good ones, this is not there intent. Despite it being called the Force, it doesn't try to force people to do things they don't want to do, everyone has free will and a choice, and if the Force or the Jedi took that away from people then they would be no different then the Sith and the Dark Side which is the ones who take away people's free will and subjugate them to terrible things, which is why the Jedi and the Force itself tries to oppose them to protect the people, because the Force itself and the Jedi, at least those that don't lose there way, want life to thrive, they want people to be safe and happy and live their free lives, as long as what they do doesn't cause too much trouble for other people and take away other peoples own free will. That's why the Jedi don't take Force-Sensative babies away from their parents unless the parents willingly agree and why they allow Jedi to leave the order, because everyone deserves to have free will and choice, and they shouldn't force their ways onto other people, pun intended. The Force is to act as a guide to the Jedi, never taking away their free will, simply sharing its knowledge and hoping they will make the right choices in life for themselves and the galaxy. And you don't even have to be fully aligned with the views of the Force and the Jedi to be on the good side and help the galaxy, I mean just look at characters like good natured Bounty Hunters like Sugi, or Mandalorians like Din, Bo, and Sabine, sure they all have their own selfish desires and want to be happy but there still decent and good people who help the galaxy and do more good then bad. Many Clones like those int he 212th that served with Obi-Wan were also like this. As long as you're doing decent in the galaxy and not causing to much trouble for others, the Force will let it slide. But the Sith and the Dark Side is never satisfied, so it just keeps hurting the people and the galaxy, until their is no choice but to stop it and destroy it because it's abused it's free will to cause so much harm and pain. Grievous is another example of this with all the suffering he caused, which is why he had to be stopped. There were still many great Jedi left during the time of The Clone Wars, like Obi-Wan, Plo Koon, and even some of the problematic ones like Anakin and Mace still did a lot of good and helped a lot of people, showing there was still hope for he Jedi Order and the Galactic Republic. As the Revenge of the Sith novilzaion mentioned the Clone Wars was the end of the age of heroes, but it saved its best two for last Obi-Wan and Anakin. There were many heroes in the Clone Wars, and while they all either died or had to go into hiding when the war ended, they still did a lot of good before the dark times. And there was no better hero or Jedi during this time then Obi-Wan himself. Truly, no Jedi could reach the High Ground of heights Obi-Wan did, again pun intended.
Anakin did. In a deleted alternate version of the start of Revenge of the Sith, Anakin and Obiwan get separated in grievous' ship. After anakin defeats dooku alone, he faces against grievous and according to the script literally effortlessy beats grievous and he flees and anakin calls him a coward
“He’s given depth by his relationships with other characters” actually, that’s pretty standard for characters in fiction. There’s a lot to learn about someone based on their interactions with other individuals.
Imo the biggest reason Kenobi could stand up to Grievous while many other Jedi failed? It's that Kenobi can get into Grievous' head. Kenobi plays mind games with Grievous while every other Jedi we've seen Grievous face has always been too serious. They all acted the same in front of Grievous except Kenobi.
As great as a swordsman grievous was there was nothing he could do against someone using the force against him. And it especially doesn't help when he meets someone that's superior with a light saber than him like Obi-Wan.
This. Sure Obiwan might be his only Jedi match in lightsaber combat, but I'm pretty sure anyone with a decent proficiency of Force pull could disarm Grievous or Force stun him
Obi Wan was a menace in the plans of the Sith considering just unbeatable he appeared to be as the Clone Wars continued and especially as Sidious agents couldn’t seem to kill him.

Mostly just Kenobi's experience facing the cyborg, giving him valuable insight on how Grievous fought. But Kit Fisto almost defeated the Droid General it what I believe is their one and only fight during the Clone War. Grievous was tough, but far from invincible. Not after Mace Windu crushed his chest in the Clone Wars microseries, at least.
We should have gotten the Star Wars version of 2 and A Half Jedi. with Qui Gon surviving and him and Obi Wan butting heads over how to best train Anakin.
yeah i always felt like grievous was built up to be well as powerful as darth vader or the emperior but then obi-wan seems to defeat him realitivaly easily.
No he didn’t. He just stood his ground. Went blow for blow. But ultimately didn’t defeat him. Unfortunately we will never know for sure if Kit would have actually won in the end. 1) Kit fled the fight and 2) Kit fled life 😂
And here I thought it was his impervious plot armor that won him the day. For those of us who grew up when there were only 3 Star Wars movies and that was the extent of the universe, the question Gerneral who? comes to mind. We already knew who would win because of narrative. It has nothing to do with over analyzing what basically amounts to fan fiction made official by Disney by way of half assed retcon.
We talk about how Obi-Wan is a master of the High Ground, but can we talk for a moment about how Obi-Wan mastered the Low Ground? Grievous had the High Ground in the final moments when Obi-Wan uncivilly ended him
Kit Fisto defeated him. Windu crushed his chest and forced him to flee (though did admit that he didn't think he could beat him in sabre combat) Eeth Koth looked like he would have defeated Grevious and I highly doubt Yoda would have been unable to defeat Grevious, even if he had to use force abilities like Windu.
I think he took down 12, yet i don't know about hundreds, the general moves at the speed that everything to his rotating electro-drivers to his lightsabers disappear into a blur.
I believe many of the reasons listed here is also why Obi-wan was the only jedi who could've realistically beaten a fallen Anakin. I know we all love Yoda, especially when he goes Bayblade mode, but personally I feel like Ataru is a poor match for Djem So, especially after the newly anointed Vader is fresh off the outer rim sieges and hyped up on dark side steroids while Yoda's been weakened by the diminished light side energy from the Jedi's fall. I'm not saying Yoda couldn't defeat Vader on Mustafar, there's a few scenarios I see him winning, I'm just trying to point out that it's not gonna be the total steamroll a lot seem to think it would.
The author of the RotS. Over agrees with you: "You also see him grow into, by Revenge of the Sith, the only person who could have stood up against Anakin. In my opinion and I don't think there would be many people who would argue with me, at least not people whose opinion I respect... Obi-Wan is the only person who could have beaten Anakin. That was it. And you see him by the end.. you can see where the Alec Guinness version of the character is coming from." - MS
i feel like kit-fisto with 2 lightsabers could beat grevious, fisto uses form 1 which is good for going up against multiple opponents and grevious technically counts as multiple opponents with his 4 arms.
Why did all the Jedi try to take Grievous with lightsabers? They all had one advantage Grievous never did. They had the Force. Grievous was basically a droid. Plot armor aside, why did it never occur to the Jedi to use the Force to crush Grievous like a beer can?
Because its not the jedi way and because grievous never engages in a fair manor, he isnt standing at the end of a hallway waiting for jedi to march up to him he is ambushing them or speed blitzing them. (when he is written properly at least seriously fuck filloni for the character assassination of grievous)
@@drakethesnek6429I will address your criticism by rejecting your frame. The lightsaber forms are thematically meaningful concepts within a fantasy story first, and logically sound technical systems second. Star wars is fantasy set in space, not science fiction. This is not to discount your criticism of the form from a technical standpoint. I just see it as, potentially, missing some of the point.
..... didn't Kit Fisto come pretty damn close? I got the feeling he could've won but just Nope'd out since reporting back was more important. Depending on continuity Windu also bodied him at one point with Greivous having to run from that fight, and I'm pretty sure Plo Koon would've had a distinct advantage with Electric Judgement.
Yoda also could defeat General Grievous and Legends Mace also could. I’ve heard it said before that Kit Fisto could also have won against General grievous but considering he lost his entire division, his Padawan, and had to call his Astromech to save him I’m not sure the likelihood of that
@@Voldemort22grievous is one of my fave fictional characters but there is no way in hell without serious plot induced bullshit nerfing yoda in some way that grievous is beating him. Yoda is one of the only characters in the films that pretty inarguably stomps grievous
Um… Obi-Wan never actually defeated Grievous in any of their duels. It both legends and canon, their duels almost always ended in a stalemate, usually because of Grievous running away. In canon, Grievous defeated Obi-Wan once and that was in the unfinished Clone Wars episode. The only real time Obi-Wan ever defeated Grievous was in Revenge of the Sith and ironically enough, it wasn’t due to a lightsaber but rather a blaster of all things. So, you got some details wrong.
Grievous could take on jedi because he was trained by arguably the best swordsman of the time period, could wield 4 lightsabers, was faster and far stronger than the vast majority of jedi and grievous wasnt above using underhanded methods like ambushes or blasters, a massive amount of cybernetic enhancements. Grievous had no connection to the force whatsoever
@@James-pt2vk Yes, but without some Force powers of his own, a good Jedi could have simply squezzed Grievouse's biological heart, or choked his biological Lung.
@@HiR0SHi.the.D0G they could in theory but they dont because its not the jedi way and grievous fighting the way he does prevents them from getting the concentration to do so generally
After watching this video, I cannot helped but asking this: How many peoples watched Revenge of the Sith these days? After all, General Grievous has been depicted as always willing retreat when he knows that the fight is no longer in his favor just as Count Dooku instructed. So how did this part get forgotten so easily? Was it because the Clones Wars series is being watched more instead of the Revenge of the Sith in nowadays?
I strongly disagree with this video. Geetsly, you have wonderful work and I admire your videos and input, but i strongly feel that you're 100% wrong. Anakin of ROTS would demolish him
Should our next president of the United States of America being synonymous to Obi-Wan Kenobi, as you have described him & such?
I think prime anakin could, considering he was more aggressive
Over agrees with you:
"You also see him grow into, by Revenge of the Sith, the only person who could have stood up against Anakin. In my opinion and I don't think there would be many people who would argue with me, at least not people whose opinion I respect... Obi-Wan is the only person who could have beaten Anakin. That was it. And you see him by the end.. you can see where the Alec Guinness version of the character is coming from."

i feel like kit-fisto with 2 lightsabers could beat grevious, fisto uses form 1 which is good for going up against multiple opponents and grevious technically counts as multiple opponents with his 4 arms.
Grievous had neither the knowledge of the force nor the want to become a cyborg.
They have merged alot of the legends and canon material for grievous now
I'll never pass up a kenobi appreciation video
This was excellent.
The soresu defensive stance is so ridiculously counterproductive. It completely leaves a jedi open from most directions.
Did you not watch the video? Or is this sarcasm
@spaceman9396 the video does not address how dumb the soresu stance is.
Source: Trust me bro
Mace Windu says hello.
22:06 the Dutches would agree
Hey great video, keep up the good work. 🙂
Yoda also could defeat General Grievous and Legends Mace also could.
I’ve heard it said before that Kit Fisto could also have won against General grievous but considering he lost his entire division, his Padawan, and had to call his Astromech to save him I’m not sure the likelihood of that
There was a comic where Yoda toyed with Grievous, he was too fast and strong with the force for Grievous
Grievous would have won but his battle droids ruined it for him
@@Voldemort22 There is no way Grievous would have win.
@@dunyal6812 Yes it is. Grievous was getting the advantage but his droids came and ruined it and yoda fleed
Grevous really had some innate Force power. That's why he could take on Jedi.
Amazing video my friend. God bless u
@geetslys Had Obi-wan fought Palpatine instead of Yoda at the end of Episode 3, would Palpatine have fallen sans plot armor?
There are way too many absolutes in SW these days. No room for growth. It doesn't matter who owns the IP, or is writing/directing whatever.
Obi-wan win cause he's the master of trolling 😂
Can grievous parry blaster shots with his lightsabers ?
Kit fisto:😔
After watching this video, I cannot helped but asking this: How many peoples watched Revenge of the Sith these days? After all, General Grievous has been depicted as always willing retreat when he knows that the fight is no longer in his favor just as Count Dooku instructed. So how did this part get forgotten so easily? Was it because the Clones Wars series is being watched more instead of the Revenge of the Sith in nowadays?
feels weird being this early wth
id argue mace could of beat grievous but im sure grievous would of run away once he started getting beat like he tried to against obiwan
Amazing
How would Anakin Skywalker fair against General Grievous?
How is obiwan considered the best for handling grievous when you have other jedi like Yoda or Windu 🤔?
Grievous beat obi in canon multiple times. What do you mean he only lost once??? Grevious forced obi wan to retreat multiple times
Let me stream line this vid a touch. Because it was in the script.
Um Kitt Fistro
What George Lucas did to Grievous in ROTS is the equivalent of what Rian Johnson did to Luke Skywalker in TLJ.
Dooku can kill general grievous
I strongly disagree with this video.
Geetsly, you have wonderful work and I admire your videos and input, but i strongly feel that you're 100% wrong.
Here's why
Mace Windu in Clone Wars (the Powerpuff Girls and Samari Jack creator's version) he gave Grievous force choke.
In 2008 Star Wars Clone Wars the animated series, you see that Grievous is a coward because he doesn't want to deal with that defeat again.
Yes, Obi-Wan is a great Jedi and did defeat Grievous, but i think Mace could have easily done this fight.
I think Obi-Wan is overhyped
