I just turned 19 and I'm looking for a job. I feel so weird cause I felt like I should have gotten a job at 18 but didn't because I was focused on college. This is going to be hard to make. All I ever do is clean up after my sisters, make food and babysit.
At least I know I ain’t the only one my parents wanted me to depend on them this whole time but I’m at a point where I feel guilty asking for money from them I rather work for my money than just ask for it. It just doesn’t feel right knowing my parents work tirelessly and hard

The money just becomes a crutch though. I live this way and I haven't worked in 6 years. You still have to budget every month like everyone else, and it's not enough money that you can essentially retire. I don't know your family's financial status but at a certain point, you will most likely have to return to the workforce. You have to stay relevant so that if you need to get a job, you can.
Being one of those people with little experience, the most frustrating thing about writing a resume is that, when you get around to the cover letter, there is nothing left to say because it is all in the resume already! :P

And what if youve been trapped in an abusive household up until this point and dont know what you like to do and generally dont feel like a person. How do i write down skills or interests when i wasnt allowed to have any...
Start with summary + objective Mention your Attributes Accomplishments, why are you passionate about the position and industry 2- focus on education and training (as experience) name the school you attended (academic Honors)
This is a really good video it goes really in depth of what I should put a my resume. I was literally so lost until I saw this video, I’m in Highschool and I’m so tired of not having any money. Thanks for the great video!! :^)
Such great advice! When my office was recently hiring, I wish some of the candidates would have known to look at this video. I think it would have helped them standout just a little bit more!

What I learned after an hour of watching these videos: 1: Get a profile on a website that is hacked constantly 2: Better hope you meticulously tracked your life 3: Lie, but with numbers.
I’m 20 and have no job experience so idk if a resume will even help me. The only experience I have is tutoring for like 3 months, working at JCPenney for almost 2 months (had to leave because we moved) and babysitting my nephew.
what sucks is how hard it is to get a job with no experience, or at least from what i've seen. i've applied to so many jobs and haven't heard back from a single one regardless of when the posting was. i lack experience, so i dont have much to offer when it comes to my resume. i need to have experience for a job, yet i can't get a job without having one for experience? it's a loophole, and im really trying to get through it. i truly would love to have a job, it'd genuinely make me so happy. i'd love to put fourth my effort towards something, make people smile, and earn from it- i have so much free time after school since i always complete my work on time that i end up kinda just sitting in my room trying to manage my boredom. the concept of getting out of the house and getting paid to do stuff? that sounds awesome. i just wish i had experience, but i guess im kinda stuck here struggling. i feel like im going to have to work at a low end store and work my way up- go from a mcdonalds to an olive garden, yk? i'm hoping if i improve my resume by watching tutorials on it that i'll have a better chance, try to show that im worth more than just experience people seem to want- i really do not want to work at a place where i dont feel safe or just uncomfortable at :(
It can be frustrating to not hear back from jobs you've applied for, especially when you lack experience. However, it's not impossible to break into the workforce. My suggestions to improve your chances: Network, gain related experience through volunteering or interning, tailor your resume to fit the job you're applying for, and practice interviewing. Remember, the job market changes and starting at the bottom can lead to learning and growing opportunities. Keep trying, stay motivated and don't hesitate to reach out for further advice.
My biggest frustration for writing a resume is that my school did not teach it at all which is mind blowing that its even legal to leave out such a thing from basic education. Furthermore the only answer I can find is " Its so easy just write it down" which is infuriating for someone that wants to join the workforce but cant due to lack of education. I never thought that i would need a degree to know basic life skills.
My problem is that most of my skills arent related to my job in general so i just look like any other run of the mill medtech kid trying to apply for a job
The nightmare that I'm currently faced with, is that both companies in which I worked, had their employees resign and emigrate, whilst others were what could be termed "global joint venture projects" wherein people from different parts of the globe work together on a project and then leave once it's complete or when one's contract term reaches fulfillment. Now I'm stuck with either deceased, retired or uncontactable references. The experience is there, but I have nobody that a recruiting agent can call to back up the claim on my résumé. I feel uninspired and find job searching pointless, especially with the bias criteria that's set as policy and protocol to follow that serves to sideline others, while allow others a "golden ticket" pass. Such a shame.
Hi, I'm 14 and I'm trying to write my first resume to get my first job but I haven't done any volunteer work and I don't have any professional memberships. Is that a problem or do I just leave that stuff out of my resume?
My biggest frustration with writing a resume is paralysis, paralysis which is caused by not starting a resume because I have no clue on how to make a good one being that I have no job experience; 2nd, I don't even know what type of job I want so why even bother? 3rd, just thinking about it stresses me out and I'd rather do something that is more understandable and quickly rewarding. Then I just sit and wonder about how impossible it all is.
21 and trying to get a job in the worst recession since the 1930s great depression. i feel this pressure to get a job right now. i have zero experience. no volunteer work. no internship. im disabled , on benefits.
Does helping your parents do housework or errands count for something in skills? plus I have never done much volunteer work, I never joined any kind of clubs in high school.
All my job experience is military and the job I'm now in the search for is not. Writing a civil resume from just myilitary background is stressing to say the less.
Hi James! I totally agree that the volunteer experience on a resume is so important. Especially if you don't have a lot of work experience. Thanks for watching!
I completely understand your frustration. It's indeed a common challenge many face when starting out. The 'experience required' loop can be daunting. But here's the thing: many employers list experience as 'preferred' rather than 'mandatory.' So, don't let that deter you from applying. Additionally, consider internships, volunteer roles, or even projects you've undertaken in personal capacities or during your education as 'experience'. Remember, it's all about framing your skills and experiences in a way that resonates with the job description. Stay persistent and keep applying. Every rejection is one step closer to an acceptance. Best of luck! 🌟
Hi there! You can remove the work experience section all together. It's there to show what's possible on your resume (all the different sections you can add). Good luck!
i tried getting a job but had an anxiety attack at the place and could tell i lied on having good customer service when in reality im a nervous wreck.. i’m trying again with a resume and trying to be professional hopefully this works out
Would you recommend adding in short-term volunteer? I have volunteer experience; however I don't know if I should include them on my resume, since many of them were short-term events. Convention gig 1: 37 hours during 1 week. Convention gig 2: 16 hours during 3 days, University move-in crew: 6 hours during 2 days, and language tutoring: 3 months.
I am still in high school, when it comes to skills and strong points, I am completely lost as to what to write, the questions start popping up like, what I'm I even good at? What achievements do I even have?

Professor with all my respect to your great efforts but don't you think that the resume template that you've show is visually dull? I mean no recruiter would look at a classic black and white. I think my biggest frustration when it comes to writing a resume is not knowing what to put in it. I have written a resume and I have jotted things down but I am not sure if they are effective. That is the biggest struggle with writing a resume; not knowing if what you are writing is effective for an employer's interest. Then again, I have no work experience and I just graduated high school and am age 18. I believe I have a lot to learn.
Man honestly wish I never threw so much time away playing video games 24/7. I’m 18 and I have no work experience or any volunteer work. It’s a pain in the ass because no one wants to hire someone without work experience.
I do appreciate the template. However, I've read and heard the tips she names in the video a hundred other times. If you're reading this, download the template and follow the sections and ignore the video. If you want to watch the video anyways, turn to 1.25x speed and it starts at 1:57 and ends at 6:39. P.S. Also, if you're a student, expect to delete half the sample resume before completing. I found that empty space is better than the useless volunteer work (such as dog walking, or babysitting your siblings) and professional memberships (such as the chess club at your school) you may be a part of.
Hi there! Thank you for sharing your feedback. I especially like that you mentioned to tune in at 1.25x speed. Such a great way to get in the content quicker. I do also agree that most students can eliminate some of the sections on the template. You'll want to stick with a one-page format. However, I still believe volunteer work is essential. Especially for a student. Thanks for watching.
I'm still struggling with this, I'm in grade 9 so I don't have much experience in anything outside of school, but academics are unrelated to pretty much any job I could get. And it would be incredibly hard to talk about my love for the supermarket I want to work at without it sounding ridiculous.
The way the groceries are pact are simply marvelous and I love the cool and refreshing air in the environment as I walk, the paint on the wall is simply breath taking and extremely well kept, the first time I laid eyes upon the floor I thought it was a mirror until I was blinded by the sparkles reflecting from the beautiful lights above
A job in retail (like the supermarket), are looking for people who are dependable, professional, punctual, have attention to detail, good people skills, comfortable talking to others, etc. They want people who are eager to work hard and will show up on time. You can play up any of those qualities. If you are good in school, that can show you are hard working, diligent, intelligent, good with numbers, etc.
Today first time I watched your video and I fall for your voice. The only reason of subscribing your channel is that please please please help me to sound as beautiful as you do 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

I think this is a problem, especially for younger people. Thank you so much for the template!
Stacey, you are very welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed the resume tips I shared here.

Great tips for writing a resume with little work experience..hadn't thought of volunteer and special skills experience.
Hi! Thanks for watching. Yes, volunteer experience and special skills are the perfect items to add to resume when you have little work experience.
So like...you had the volunteer experience all along and it never occurred to you to write it? Or you watched this video and then it gave you the idea to go and get volunteer experience?
Yes I agree!!!!
I'm helping my 13 year old son to build a resume! He wants to work so bad! So I'll download this! Thank you Heather.
Perfect! The resume template will be a great start for your son.

How do i write down skills or interests when i wasnt allowed to have any...
Very helpful and concise! Thank you! The visual examples of your resume sample helped a lot.
I'm just now starting out, and I have no guidance from my family. Thank you for making these videos.
You are so welcome!
My biggest frustration is anxiety.
I’m writing a resume today to apply for a job that I’ve been hunting. This videos is still useful! Thank you!
Start with summary + objective
Mention your Attributes Accomplishments, why are you passionate about the position and industry
2- focus on education and training (as experience) name the school you attended (academic Honors)
This is a really good video it goes really in depth of what I should put a my resume. I was literally so lost until I saw this video, I’m in Highschool and I’m so tired of not having any money. Thanks for the great video!! :^)
You're so welcome! I'm glad this video helped. I wish you the very best with your resume.
Such great advice! When my office was recently hiring, I wish some of the candidates would have known to look at this video. I think it would have helped them standout just a little bit more!
Thanks Meredith. I agree that with just a little bit more time and attention, someone can create a fantastic resume.
Volunteer work is something I recommend adding to a resume. Important your passion and generosity come across
Seed2Stem, yes! Volunteer experience is a must on a resume. So glad you enjoyed this video.
I tried downloading the resume template and it does not work. I insert my name and email address then click "SEND IT TO ME!" nothing works, looks like a scam.
it does look like a scam, still waiting to see if it works tho

Does anyone notice that the selected achievement in the sample is just a list of "nothing" but written in a more beautiful way?!
"Get volunteer experience today!" THAT'S WHY I NEED THE RESUME!
I am an avid fan of you Prof. Austin. Your videos are real great source of learning. I want to let you know that I even make some of your videos my reference in my own UA-cam videos. I do put a citation of your channel.
Awesome! Thanks for letting me know. I'm thrilled you're a fan of the channel.
What I learned after an hour of watching these videos:
1: Get a profile on a website that is hacked constantly
2: Better hope you meticulously tracked your life
3: Lie, but with numbers.
You're not going to get the job even if you fix your resume. They're going to choose the best candidate in the worst economy since ever.
I’m 20 and have no job experience so idk if a resume will even help me. The only experience I have is tutoring for like 3 months, working at JCPenney for almost 2 months (had to leave because we moved) and babysitting my nephew.
Believe it or not in the current job market that’s probably enough just not for any super high end stuff obvs
Wow this is so awesome! There’s so many videos on how to write but people don’t acknowledge that there people that may not have a lot of experience.
Thank you for watching. I appreciate your thoughts and comments.
what sucks is how hard it is to get a job with no experience, or at least from what i've seen. i've applied to so many jobs and haven't heard back from a single one regardless of when the posting was. i lack experience, so i dont have much to offer when it comes to my resume. i need to have experience for a job, yet i can't get a job without having one for experience? it's a loophole, and im really trying to get through it. i truly would love to have a job, it'd genuinely make me so happy. i'd love to put fourth my effort towards something, make people smile, and earn from it- i have so much free time after school since i always complete my work on time that i end up kinda just sitting in my room trying to manage my boredom. the concept of getting out of the house and getting paid to do stuff? that sounds awesome. i just wish i had experience, but i guess im kinda stuck here struggling. i feel like im going to have to work at a low end store and work my way up- go from a mcdonalds to an olive garden, yk? i'm hoping if i improve my resume by watching tutorials on it that i'll have a better chance, try to show that im worth more than just experience people seem to want- i really do not want to work at a place where i dont feel safe or just uncomfortable at :(
It can be frustrating to not hear back from jobs you've applied for, especially when you lack experience.
Wow professor Austin You shared a lot Ideas about Writing resume. I have visited your blog also.
Hi there Shashi! Thank for watching this resume video and for visiting my blog.
I told them I have done landscaping work and that help a lot and I got the job!!
when i mean no experience i mean none like i dont have anything smh talking abt volenteer work and stuff like thats still work god damn it
Same
oh this video is from 4 years ago but you are still a lifesaver ❤
You are so welcome. Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much I have been pushing back writing a resume for 3 months now but because of this video I did it straight away. Thank you so much
My problem is that most of my skills arent related to my job in general so i just look like any other run of the mill medtech kid trying to apply for a job
Her:focus on what you've done that shows your level of commitment.
Me:fuuuuuuu

Keep your head up.

Wow. You’ve put it into words perfectly how I’ve been feeling 😞💛
When you've only had one job for five months and can't figure out how to fit it into your no experience resume
21 and trying to get a job in the worst recession since the 1930s great depression. i feel this pressure to get a job right now. i have zero experience. no volunteer work. no internship. im disabled , on benefits.
im still cooked, this does not help me
When I graduate at Polytechnic Sarawak Diplomma in Mechanical Engineering Manufacturing and Accounting minimum CGPA : 3.75 I will applied 2014 & 2015
Does helping your parents do housework or errands count for something in skills? plus I have never done much volunteer work, I never joined any kind of clubs in high school.
Yes, helping your parents count. Can you find volunteer work?
@@ProfessorHeatherAustin haven't found any.

Hello Heather. I have been unable to receive the resume template. Just curious to know if you have a site I can go to to get the resume? Thank you
Thanks for letting me know. Email me at heather@professoraustin.com and I'll make sure you get the template. Thanks!
All my job experience is military and the job I'm now in the search for is not. Writing a civil resume from just myilitary background is stressing to say the less.
The volunteer experience section is really, really important...great tips, Heather!
Hi James! I totally agree that the volunteer experience on a resume is so important. Especially if you don't have a lot of work experience. Thanks for watching!
All the jobs say “need 1-2 years experience” like how the fuck do I get experience if they’re all like that
I completely understand your frustration. 🌟
How come on the template it has Work experience do I skip it? I don’t have any and I need one
Hi there! You can remove the work experience section all together. It's there to show what's possible on your resume (all the different sections you can add). Good luck!
Professor Heather Austin thank you so much for replying I am so thankful that you did and you replied so fast thank you so much very helpful video.
How do I delete certain sections Is there a button etc. Thank you ahead of time.
i tried getting a job but had an anxiety attack at the place and could tell i lied on having good customer service when in reality im a nervous wreck.. i’m trying again with a resume and trying to be professional hopefully this works out
Oh wow! I’m sorry tit had an anxiety attack. Keep practicing and get your resume in tip top shape. You’ve got this! ❤️
Defiantly, no reason not to. Just don't give more details than necessary if you think it barely 'counts'.
I am still in high school, when it comes to skills and strong points, I am completely lost as to what to write, the questions start popping up like, what I'm I even good at? What achievements do I even have?
I have not written a resume in a very long time so this video is very very good. Thanks for sharing!

Professor with all my respect to your great efforts but don't you think that the resume template that you've show is visually dull? I mean no recruiter would look at a classic black and white. I don't know that is my opinion if you know many cases of acceptance for this template then please correct me.
Awesome Heather. Thanks for sharing. I hope I knew that when I started :)
Hi Christina, thank you for watching this video. Resume writing is something a lot of people struggle with. Just trying to streamline the process.

Tyler, I get you buddy! Don't look back in regret. Just move forward now with everything you have. It's never to late to find volunteer work.
Professor Heather Austin is there a way I can do this without volunteer work I kinda need money ASAP
yeah im screwed
Great tips, I'll have to share this video with my boys. Thanks for sharing, cheers!

@@ProfessorHeatherAustin Professor Heather Austin Yo! Appreciate the reply, ur welcome
I’m a hard worker, but I’m 15 and my parents won’t let me get a job
That seems like a narcissist parent you need to find a way to make money
Most places won’t hire you anyway
If you are good in school, that can show you are hard working, diligent, intelligent, good with numbers, etc.
when im writing if i had a experience
when i don't
