For people applying to jobs in Europe, it is important and good practice here to include a photo on your CV, there’s even countries that disregard your CV if it doesn’t include a photo (such as Germany and Spain)!!!!

I'm so glad that my current resume follows almost all your points! It's a killer resume and has received many compliments by job advisors and recruiters. It's bright and eye catching but very clear to read (I'm an illustrator so I believe it should have some creative flare)
One thing I dropped from the working experience section is the exact dates/months of each experience. As a creative alot of jobs were contract based or just wouldn't work out very well, so I had to quit. Resulting in having months-long gaps in my resume where I was unemployed. It attracted attention in many interviews, were I had to explain myself and say that I worked as freelancer in between, so the recruiter wouldn't think that I drop jobs all the time, when in reality I wasn't.
So now I only have the year and all the experience, projects etc I've done within the year as independent sections. Seems to work quite well as no one has questioned me since and it looks very nicely organised and full.

I love all of these tips but one thing that frustrates me is that every career coach type youtuber always gives the same advice and it just doesn't apply to people like me. They all say to add figures/numbers/stats and I'm an administrative assistant. I DON'T HAVE that type of info to include in my resume. There were no sales, no increased profits, no projects, etc. And the types of jobs I'm applying to aren't looking for things like that, they're looking for what I've done. Can you please make a video for people in my situation where the whole resume is basically a list of job duties? I really needs some guidance on how to make those bullet points sound better, be more concise, be more coherent, all of that. Thank you so much for all that you do!

What do you do as administrative assistant? Do you send two to seven emails per day? Do you draft, edit and send 5 to 10 emails per day?
Do you update financial reports for each of the staff or customers? How many?
Do you manage the schedules of Staff members? How many?
Do you plan and manage any events? How many per month?
In my experience of being an administrative assistant, there is always something that is quantifiable.

I'll have to come back to this later and prepare my stuff! I definitely committed the sin of sending out the same resume to everyone when searching for the work term 😅 So far I've interviewed with 3 places and they all wanted me, but none were the generic resume put out on Indeed, so point definitely taken. My interviews all came from finding out about an opportunity some other way and contacting them directly.

Just one thing in this video, I would say apply to Jobs/ Industry you are most comfortable with and you resume will be already tailored.

If you've only been working for a couple of years to maybe 20 years with only a couple of job changes, then sure, one page. I've been working for 30 years in a profession where it is 100% normal to be a contract employee for a few months to a few years. Even cutting it down to just the past 20 years is two pages. If I only show the past 10 years, I still have to leave things off and I get people asking why I only started working 10 years ago.

When transitioning from academia to industry for data analyst roles, which is more important for a one-page resume: including a summary highlighting my analytical skills or focusing on projects and work experience directly related to data analysis?

I am about to compose my resume and this is very helpful. I would love it also if you could talk about writing a resume for smn without relevant experience or a resume for academic/research jobs, like for a phd or postdoc.

You make this so clear to me, specially because I moved countries so I did not know how to place my past experience as I do not have relevant experience for the jobs I am applying to, omg why I did not watch this earlier. lol.. thank you

I love these idea’s definitely the brain dump, but the issue I’m having is pivoting to health another industry as a digital marketer who worked in the entertainment, business and fashion industries.
PS: the soda player examples where you want a coke vs the player with the sprite is a prefect examples of how my resume looks like 😂😂 thank you

@AdviceWithErin Hey Erin! Thanks so much for this video. You had said in the video that the templates you have are free but I can't find it. The link of the "How to Make a Really Good Resume" on your website with the resume template says it costs money. Am I mistaking a different template that you are describing?

I would really appreciate if you would make some videos on how to deal with toxic co workers and build more boundaries with your boss who tries to overstep and texts you at night . Thankyou

THE DESIGN PART. I feel like many creatives would not agree but, personally, I find the "creative resume" to be a total scam. A resume is a document. It is supposed to be simple and straightforward. Portfolio is where you find the showcase of creative skills!

At 43 with a multitude of career experiences due to the popularity of corporate layoffs and preferential high turn over company policies, i find this video useless. I dream of the day when companies apply to people for help. Instead of eliminating hiring managers and recruiters in favor of AI. Getting a job in the last 15 years is complete BS.

I tried the functional resume some years ago, but with 30 years of experience and a lot of different skills (my industry is tech), it became very unwieldy, difficult to specialise for particular role-types and it requires a recruiter that is themselves ahead of the game, with a brain between their ears, and that is a small minority - let alone the hiring team in the end-client - it's a good mental exercise to do and worth it, and for some it will work in getting a job. Also, if you listen to lots of other CV advice out there, where they say don't list what you did, but what you achieved, the functional model doesn't work very well...

In my 11 years of carrer and after 5 jobs that (each of the job i got from my previous job with some one i met and he offered me a job based on performance. And my first job was by walking in a company and asked them for a job).
I have never received a call from any firm i applied in 11 years. I have used techniques from Austin Belcak. Jeff Su and what what not. I just want to add one last thing all HR and Recruiters suck at their job.
