I love the running theme of Ardal doing awful on a task and then coming for everyone else in the studio. It’s pure mischief. I also loved how quick he was with that pre-history quip
I am surprised of your ‘dislike’ of Chris - through editing, he had a very strong start but I don’t see him as cocky or arrogant or anything - just genuinely excited to be there, and happens to be quite good at tasks. I am a big fan of his podcast (he does with his wife) - it is one of the biggest and most successful in the UK!
@@insertgenericusernamehere2402 He should watch Chris on 8 out 10 cats does countdown then, Cause damn if he doesn't do awful on there in an endearing way.
Yep, I'm a big fan of the show, but he definitely brought back what had been lacking for a while - the inter-contestant put-down/banter. 😂 Felt satisfyingly 'earlier series' each time he did it, on my first viewing of this series when it aired. Not sure if it's a conscious editing decision made by the TM team these days though, or whether competitors are (on the whole) a bit more chill re each other's attempts.
Not sure when Chris first appears on the TM pod but I reckon you’d like him a lot more than maybe you think. Totally understand he won’t be everyone’s favourite but his love for the show, genuine excitement to be there and his reactions and interactions to the others is why I really enjoyed him on the show.
You ABSOLUTELY have to watch part 3 of the outtakes of this series. Bridget Christie drops a line so viciously funny that you have to hear it. You'll know it when you hear it, because she gets very close to Greg when she says it.
This is an absolutely top tier episode. I haven't seen you laugh so hard at a prize task since the gifts last series! I mentioned this once before but 13 is my favorite series! Everyone has strong personalities, and even the more "normal" seeming contestants start showing their quirks too. Chris has lost his lead, so hang on tight as you watch the scoreboard - it's a wild ride to the end!
I sometimes think the best seasons have a really clear "benchmark" character and everyone else rises to meet their energy, whether it be bickering or just loving each other, and this one has Ardal and Judi really fixing the energy in the studio at the level of siblings fighting to the death over a board game, fully aware of how funny it is to defend the indefensible - in wide shots you can ALWAYS see Judi laughing about everything even at her most faux-irate. But you can see in the tasks themselves that the other three are fully capable of doing that too, so it's just real harmony.
None of the main Horrible Histories cast have been on *yet* but Mat Baynton (Thomas in Ghosts) recently played in a Taskmaster charity football match so he could be on an upcoming season
Fun fact: This is the first episode in English-language Taskmaster history where a single contestant has gotten *more* than 5 points in *two* separate tasks. Taskmaster trivia: When this episode first aired, almost all of Ardal's history attempt was cut from broadcast because Russia had only just invaded Ukraine at that time.
Surely everyone knows "I'm not a pheasant plucker, I'm the pheasant plucker's son, and I'll keep on plucking pheasants, 'til the pheasant plucker comes."
@@raphaelperry8159 I've also heard one used by theatre actors: "I am a mother pheasant plucker, I pluck mother pheasants, I am the most pleasant mother pheasant plucker". I guess it's used as a warm-up, so the actors can work on their enunciation before a performance.
One of the Horrible Histories team is rumoured to be in the upcoming Series 19. The lineup was leaked (I've not seen it), but we'll know for sure after the New Years special
@@skw_x Well-I heard about the cast and was whelmed.... Seems like the shocking undermarking of two recent 'crazy' and inventively entertaining cast members (SW and RJ) was actually reflective of how the show is to be moving forward.... as this lot give me Sidi and Robins vibes rather than anything genuinely off beat (and weirdly Greg has been involved with projects with SW since-as well as both of them being involved in stuff with other undermarked contestants cast members of that series more than once since.... so guess the focus shift is more C4, Avalon or Alex himself wanting to make sure it can continue to be edited to appeal to a children's audience.) None of the Horrible Histories/Ghosts core group has yet been on the show but the cast list for Series 19 was recently leaked and one of them is going to be on that series! Very exciting stuff! But as you know, most of the rest of the Ghosts cast have already been on the show (Katy Wix, Lolly Adefope, Charlotte Ritchie… and others!)
TBH I think Taskmaster COULD work in the US, with the right Taskmaster and Taskmaster Assistant. I feel like DropoutTV would be the perfect place for it, I think they could definitely do it right
@@AdamfromFWCI Conan makes perfect sense too. The reason I said Dropout is because their main thing is improvisation, and they've already got a bunch of fantastic game shows so I trust them to do it well. I think it would be good to have an established comedian as taskmaster with one of the Dropout team as assistant. Zac Oyama would be my pic, he's got fantastic comedic timing (check out "A Defendant Stupidly Interrupting His Lawyer's Closing Remarks") but there's a lot of good options. They have a lot of funny people and they also bring in new people a lot (Brian David Gilbert, Wayne Brady, Pete Holmes, they've had a bunch of famous Drag Queens on, etc.), so I feel like they could easily fill out the 5 comedians with a mix of people from their own roster while also bringing in other people in.
Alex brought TM USA up quite often lately. Especially after Alex and Greg have been invited to Seth Myers Late Night earlier this year. They were overwhelmed by the reception in NY. And they will be back in NY in January. Alex also said that he would like to do a new US version with Greg and him. But since Alex is extremely busy with TM UK and The Horne Section and Greg is doing a big stand up tour next year - maybe in the US in 2026, I think we won’t get that until 2027… if it ever happens
This is one of the first series I can remember that there’s this amount of sniping each other in the studio. Love it 😂 Oh, and leave Chris alone! 😂 I’ve met him after gigs a few times and he’s a really nice bloke
We have not, as yet, had any of the Six Idiots as they call themselves, on TM. There are strong rumours about S19 though, but nothing confirmed. Kiell is S15, Bridget is in a few Ghosts episodes, and S18 that just finished had a ghosts guest in it too.

The 6 idiots haven't been on taskmaster, but there were some people on reddit hoping for a 6 contestant season or one off so we can get all of them together.
The Chris hate is irrational and bizarre. Arrogant? I don't think anyone has ever called Chris that ever. I predict a sudden turnout later in the season 🤨.
I know that the Taskmaster show format has survived having a horrible actual Taskmaster (the NZ version), but (despite Alex being DIRECTLY) involved, the US version had so very many things wrong with it. Reggie Watts was totally wrong for the show. He's not a bad or unfunny guy, but he's jovial, not stern or sarcastic, either or both of which are needed for the role. The contestants were even worse. Taskmaster contestants CAN be super competitive and the formula still work, but the US ones, despite being comedians, somehow forgot (or didn't know) the show was supposed to be a comedy, and any sense of being competitive needs to feed the comedy. The pacing was awful too. My memory of the actual tasks were some repeats from the UK (so not too bad) and some new, but nothing inspiring. If this were redone I'd try someone like Lewis Black or Anthony Jesselnik as the Taskmaster. Not sure who a good asisstant would be. I'm trying to think of current US comedians with awkward but clever personalities. The casting of contestants would have to include some kind of briefing about taking the show seriously but not TOO seriously. It's a hard attitude to explain, unless you potentially spoil them by making them watch episodes of the UK show first (and risk spoiling reused tasks).

Ep.5 not an amazing one for Chris lol
I call Chris Ramsay "Accidental Gamble" as he doesn't have the competitive drive of Ed Gamble but pulls off the tasks just as well.
"ARDAL... waitin' in the booth for the LADIES!" is one of my favorite quotes of the show. Just the way he says it hits me.
