Danny Carey is 62 years of age. ...Let that sink in. And he's playing with as much fire as ever. What a master of the craft. Thank you for all the years of inspiration.
Thanks for the great interview. I really wish Danny would do a piece on Drumeo to share some of his wisdom and knowledge with the wider drum community. That would be amazing
You're looking at a living legend folks. One of the nicest and most talented guys to ever play. Never pass up an opportunity to go see him do what he does. A true master of his craft
GOAT... I've had the pleasure of meeting him 4 times now...Such a humble and cool guy. I'm taken back every time. I have a signed drumstick personally wishing me the best on my dresser. I look at it every morning on my way out.
They have been getting the recognition that they deserve and I also think it's because they're getting older and us the fans have been waiting for interviews like this I remember Loving how mysterious they were and they never did many interviews
We the world are so lucky to have Danny Carey. Thanks so much for providing such a great interview David. Thanks Danny for taking the time to give us an amazing tour of your kit and for the interview. You are a legend.
Watching a Danny Carey video is like finding a gold mine! Im so happy i watched this! I have been watching Danny since Aenima and saw his playing expand and go places. Thank you for the insights really enjoyed listening to this. 🤘🙌👏👏👏🎉
As a Portland drummer who knows many of the funk bands Danny mentioned, I can say the funk scene in Portland is still alive and well. Drummers like Tyrone Hendrix and Brain Foxworth are keeping it going.
Danny is an amazing technical player and also an insanely creative and artistic musician as well. Tough to find someone so good in both those ways... and that's really what makes him possibly the best ever I think.
Damn, I love that guy. Few people have added a full dimension to my life. But he has. New dimensions don't happen often. So, thanks Danny! Great interview!
With influences like that paired an ability like his, Danny's use of the common phrase "whipping ass" has an intense power behind it. We are lucky to stand witness to such a master at his craft. What an artist
Omg this is awesome. I remember getting the modern drummer mag in 1996 he was on the cover of.. he was god. Plain & simple. Him and Bonham. 1996 was a hell of a year for me. Ænima spoke directly to me… Seems silly now. It saved me.
this is fantastic ! i remember seeing King Crimson on a TV show called Fridays. they played Elephant Talk and Thela Hun Jinjeet. went out and bought Discipline the next day. a year later two bands merged and i ended up with an SDS 5 as part of the deal. toured with those then traded them for an SDS 7 then later got the MTM interface Simmons came out with. i believe that's what Bruford used with Earthworks for awhile. still have the gear and am currently using the SDS 7 pads with a DDTi interface. 😄 Danny truly is the GOAT
He was wearing a king crimson shirt in his dressing room one of the times I met him. I think he filled in for them at a few shows or was looking to he mentioned.
@@whataday13 have you heard that Adrian Belew started a supergroup with Tony Levin, Steve Vai and Danny Carey. They are calling the band 'Beat' and they will be playing songs from Discipline, Beat and Three of a Perfect Pair. 🤯
the best musicians put the song before their ego. this i think is what makes Danny the goat. you never hear Danny go full prog drumming virtuoso in a Tool song unless it serves their song.
I’m so happy for this generation of drummers that they have access to this kind of knowledge. Back when I was a young drummer fanboying on DC, Tool and DC had such a mystique that all we had to go by was a handful of interviews and Blair’s mostly BS newsletters. Highlights included tall tales like pumping helium into his drums on 10,000 Days. 😆
For Danny to throw out the name Dennis Chambers out there is so cool that's amazing drummer. If you noticed Danny is always talking about his favorite drummers. What a cool guy
He has John Bonham's personal bag that he got at an estate sale... he said I didn't want to know how much it was... but he has it on tour with him and it was just chilling on the couch in his dressing room... so cool
This guy and the 3 others are responsible for giving an entire generation their own music to connect with. Dont think he quite realizes the impact he's had on music and drumming.
Reminds me of a bad VHS series how the interview is abruptly interrupted outta nowhere and practically mid sentence and for a Kompressor snare drum clip. And a super generic song to top it off. Fkng awesome 😂
For a fan like me that’s been waiting 25 years for an interview with the king DC, I’m disappointed with the questions that were asked. Danny has a goldmine of wisdom to share to the world and this interviewer asks why does he like electronics. What a waste of Danny and his fans time. So much more to dive into, this was more like a catch up at the store randomly in a target aisle. Next time can we get someone with a media background to ask the right questions to this living legend and greatest of all time drummer imo So keen for the Rick Beato interview with DC going to be amazing Something a bit deeper please
Danny has a foot and some inches on Eloy. Not that anyone cares, but the size of the human ends up mattering quite a bit in terms of how physical the hits can get.

For sure. Well said.
Drug free , eats healthy dude looks 40
I wore his t-shirt with an outline of his kit to the Tool VIP experience and as he passed, he said "nice shirt". The GOAT spoke to me! I ❤ DC
The guy is truly humble and i swear if you havent seen him live you wouldnt understand how special he is. Its out of this world.
Thanks for the great interview.
I really wish Danny would do a piece on Drumeo to share some of his wisdom and knowledge with the wider drum community.
That would be amazing
have him play a dennis chambers song he hasn't heard before. I would really like to hear him play a drum n bass track though.
@@paluka82 that would be awesome after they gave Dennis Schism.
I was at the VIP over the tour and asked him to do it and he said he’s been considering it. (Seemed very genuine)
Rick Beato recently did an interview with him. Really looking forward to that.
I'm pretty sure he will now 😊
Danny Carey is one of the coolest dudes around. He most certainly is a rockstar but he doesn't act like one, which I find very admirable
Intelligent people love rock music too heh
@@adamsylvan😂
Glad we have your approval.
@@pissoff234 😂😂😂
I've met him 4 times now... can confirm.
Danny is so chill
DANNY CAREY IS A LIVING LEGEND! GOAT!
Gotta thank Danny for taking this interview. There is way too little in the way of interviews with this living legend of a musician
You're looking at a living legend folks. One of the nicest and most talented guys to ever play. Never pass up an opportunity to go see him do what he does. A true master of his craft
Dude, more Danny? Yes please.
I second this 🤘🤘👏👏
HEAR HEAR
DANNY!!!!!! This is the one. I am a guitar player but I could literally watch this guy play drums for hours, I can't explain why, he is mesmerising
He just might be the kindest, most down-to-earth "rock star" on the planet. Not too mention arguably the greatest living drummer.
As a God tier musician he is underrated.
Such a chill and humble guy.
Just like David Garibaldi, I can listen to Danny talk drums for hours.
GOAT... I've had the pleasure of meeting him 4 times now...Such a humble and cool guy. I'm taken back every time. I have a signed drumstick personally wishing me the best on my dresser. I look at it every morning on my way out.
Best fucking drummer on this planet!
The humility of this absolute legend is incredible. Pumps everyone up while speaking simply about himself.
Danny Carey is why I picked up drumming! One of the BEST.
Man, he's such a good dude and amazing drummer.
Danny, please keep speaking out for all of us to hear.
Modern Drummer should induct him in the Hall Of Fame soon. He totally deserves it!
🥁🔥🤟🏻
Thanks for conducting a very great interview with this HUMBLE legend
First we got Justin's rig run down, then Danny's, and now a nice interview! Tool is finally coming out of its shell!
Now we need Adam's rig!
They have been getting the recognition that they deserve and I also think it's because they're getting older and us the fans have been waiting for interviews like this I remember Loving how mysterious they were and they never did many interviews
Very humble and well spoken drummer, who's drumming abilities capture the listener. Love to hear this guy play, amazing !
Danny seems like such a cool dude
Truly a legend
Danny is such a skilled, talented and humble human. Thank you🙏
We the world are so lucky to have Danny Carey. Thanks so much for providing such a great interview David. Thanks Danny for taking the time to give us an amazing tour of your kit and for the interview. You are a legend.
It's crazy how long Tool has been not just active, but actively creating and evolving. Even crazier that Danny played with Carol King. Good stuff!

An incredible inspiration for myself and to so many others worldwide!
An absolute legend of the highest order!! 💯 🥁
God of drummers👏🏻
Pretty cool seeing Tool members being a bit more open to interviews.
Can I have 10 more hours of this interview please
Thank you for this interview!! Danny Carey is the GOAT 🐐!
As a Portland drummer who knows many of the funk bands Danny mentioned, I can say the funk scene in Portland is still alive and well. Drummers like Tyrone Hendrix and Brain Foxworth are keeping it going.
Great interview!! In both this and especially the gear run down it goes across as two old friends talking about drums!! 🤟
My favorite drummer from my generation! 🥁Listen to Tool daily.
No has inspired me more than this man
I could listen to those two all day. Such knowledge and deep interest in drums.
Danny is an amazing technical player and also an insanely creative and artistic musician as well. Tough to find someone so good in both those ways... and that's really what makes him possibly the best ever I think.

the subtle sound on Aenima is pretty special. He always gives the song as much or as little as it needs. The best!
Danny is phenomenal! David is a great drummer in his own right!
Best of the best

WooHoo! Great interview!
Danny is definitely inspiring a wide range of drummers and shows us that there is no limitations to the imagination.

3:47 That band he’s talking about here “Pleasure” are phenomenal. Their hit “Glide” is very chill and catchy. Almost hippyish

I always thought Danny looked like a surfer... and could have been one... but he was destined to be one of the greatest drummers of all time.
Seems like a really nice guy. Great bandmate I bet
Thank you, MD!
John Bonham, Neil Peart and Danny Carey are my biggest influences. Great interview 👍

BEST DRUMMER 🥁 IN THE WORLD!!

Aw thank you!
18:16 I wonder if he and Dennis knew each other previously or if they connected after Drumeo made Dennis play "Schism."
"to warm up all my arms" he finally admitted he's an octopus!
He is my idol
I got to go play my drums, laters
Even if you don't believe in astrology, Danny's birthday is called the Day of natural rhythm. May 10. Godly
Danny is a pretty good drummer.
If it’s not Chad smith or Danny Carey I don’t wanna hear it. lol those guys are the GOATS
I imagine a spider or octopus playing the drums on chocolate chip trip. Love it.
If i could meet one drummer and hang out and talk drums it'd be Danny or Mike Portnoy...
His drum kit costs more than my house!
Fantastic, how bout a long form for us deep thinkers now lol ❤DC
I don't why he didn't ask Danny what other drummers were trying out for Tool. It will be interesting...
Three snare heads… a night. 🤯 Holy fook!
right. I feel like thats from his time in the marching band and drum core
Danny Carey the goatopus 🐐🐙
That little interlude where they had that guy playing the drums should have had Danny playing
Goat and a cool dude
Where did you learn tabla
Danny's teacher is Aloke Dutta.

Love how he mentions Phil Collins, he was an amazing drummer, so sad he can’t play anymore.
Monster Drummer!
the very great..along with john bonham and tony williams❤❤
He has John Bonham's personal bag that he got at an estate sale... he said I didn't want to know how much it was... but he has it on tour with him and it was just chilling on the couch in his dressing room... so cool

I don’t know any other drummer, not even eloy casagrande, that goes through 3 snare heads a night. Damn!
Danny has a foot and some inches on Eloy. Not that anyone cares, but the size of the human ends up mattering quite a bit in terms of how physical the hits can get.
Always wonderful when your heroes of different categories are normal people and not weird or an asshole.
