Toyota has always been hyped beyond what it deserved. In ‘90 I bought a dodge grand caravan that lasted till I gave it to my mechanic with about 250,000 miles on it around 2005, for some free air conditioner work on another car. My neighbour who bought a new Toyota van the same month in 1990, went through 3 toyota vans in the same time.

The problem in Japan is Overwork and Loneliness. The men and women over there typically don't get together. Lots of girls are alone and left on the shelf. The guys just work all day and don't want to get married since its too expensive and they are too tired. The girls are lonely and feel unloved. No kidding that automatic braking isn’t there yet. I used to drive a 2023 Nissan Kicks with automatic braking for work (why they would choose a Nissan over a Toyota to save a few thousand dollars, I don’t know). At least once a week the automatic braking would just go off with nobody even in front of (car or pedestrian). Not sure if it was a bug that wandered in front of the image sensor or shadows or what, but it’s absolutely TERRIFYING to be driving 45mph and the car just RANDOMLY slams the brakes on you “for you”.
The car itself wasn’t bad, drove as good as a 108hp 1.6L with a CVT can be expected. Great gas mileage though. I routinely got 44-48 highway in it, and around 34-39 city. I could idle that engine with the AC on for eight hours a day and still get 29mpg all said and done. That’s pretty spectacular, but at the end of the day it was a Nissan and was already showing signs of CVT concerns when I got fired (car was around 76,000 miles by then). No the damage wasn’t from me, I drive like a grandma (most people in those Kicks got 24 compared to my 34+).

Nuclear plants - They produce tons of power very efficiently, cleanly and consistently. The only real downside to them is that the power they produce cannot be easily turned up or down. Normally when we're producing more electricity than is being consumed we shutdown or scale down the output from non-nuclear sources so that we don't overload the power grid. So the maximum amount of nuclear power we can have will always be limited to the minimum amount of power we consume at the absolute lowest point during the year minus the smallest amount that all of our other power sources can produce. The only way around this is for us to create an energy storage system where excess energy can be directed and held for use during peak energy usage times.
Wind - Is actually a great alternative because even on days that you think aren't very windy, there is still plenty of wind to power them. Especially at the height that wind turbines are set at (190-295 feet high for land based and 328-495 for offshore). At that height, almost every square mile of the US is a suitable location for a wind turbine, except a small strip in southern California. If they are producing too much power they can easily stop any number of them to match demand. Modern wind turbines aren't a risk to birds like older faster moving turbines. About the only downside is how they look and how they clutter the view of the skyline.
Solar - Solar's biggest drawback is that it only produces power during the day. But peak energy usage happens during the day when humans are up and doing things, so it's perfect for supplementing other power sources during peak usage.
Nuclear, wind and solar are the energy holy trinity. If we get those three up to capacity and balanced, then we should be able to scale back fossil fuel usage to just a few niche areas where it still makes sense to use them. Keep enough of them around to offset any nuclear powerplant downtime, like planned maintenance.

I purchased a brand new '23 Camry LE AWD in 2/23. It's got 19K on it now. 6+ trips to the dealer since new. Mechanical (Engine/Transmission noise), Technical (TPMS not working correctly, Bluetooth/Apple Car Play not always working), Physical issues (OBVVIOUS paint defects, Mirror covers & trim fall off in car washes or hitting a bump. I've stopped washing it because it's so fragile, Had a rim replaced due to a defect & two tires replaced, etc. Dealer has YET to address 1/2 of the issues. All I get is a few things "supposedly" looked at and told that the "the car needs a software update" or some other issue and told to schedule a return visit! This is Toyota Quality ?????

Toyota's quality issues started with the 2018 Camry. My 2020 was the worst new car I've ever had. It was a happy few minutes after buying it and a much happier day when I sold it before its second scheduled oil change. I started questioning the car during the drive home, the quality was far below my old Camry's. My 2020 used to slam on the brakes when I was alone on a highway. Toyota's TSS was so advanced it could see ghost on a nearly empty highway.

@@kaohsiung99 Everything breaks with age. A 07 is a pretty old car for nothing to break. I used to put miles on things quick. I'd be out of a normal warranty before the year is up. Besides using oil it was a great car. I put new rings in it around 40k miles. Nothing but normal maintenance for the next 200k miles. I decided to treat myself with a new one in 2020 since I don't travel as much anymore. The new Camry made me miss the good old Camry's. It was a piece of junk.
