      Yeah, I purchase one of the first 2022 Maverick XL’s in October 2021. AWD with 4K tow package. Nothing else fancy.
      At 30,000 miles they had to replace the rear differential. lol… a few other electronic issues too that updates haven’t fixed.
      Hopefully to newer 2024 models have resolved the glitches.
      It does ride smooth, but I wouldn’t buy ones again.

      I think the jury should still be out on modern 4 or 6 cyl turbo engines. These newer engines were designed from thr get-go to be turbo powered. Previous decades that wasn't always the case. That said, I would personally opt for a tried and true V6, especially in a mid size truck. At least, for now.

      Those early Japanese vehicles were great. I believe that a lot of it was due to unadorned simplicity. Plain Jane, basic RELIABLE vehicles. Now, all vehicles are ultra-complicated and loaded down with " must have" stuff, not to mention the emissions monstrosities they have to contend with. It's amazing how they do as well as they do, considering. Especially Toyota and Mazda. I do like the current Frontier. Even though I am a Toyota fan, I believe the Frontier's exterior looks better than the Tacoma. Now about the upcoming Stout...

I still have it and drive it to this day, almost 270k on the clock, it leaks oil and coolant and currently the alternater is on its way out but this car has never left me stranded and I beat the hell out of it. I drove it from SC to Ohio for the eclipse, over 1200 miles round trip and it was still flawless and getting around 30mpg with two fuel injectors that tend to stick open! For the Honda, you can order a small wiring harness that can replace the current one by the shifter. this will automatically default to turn off your "Idle Stopper" as soon as you start the car so you will never have to worry about those annoying engine shutdowns. it is especially annoying and unsafe when you get ready to jump into traffic, quickly step on the gas and find that the engine has to start first. I got mine for $100 on Amazone and it took less then 5min to install.

In it's 200K miles we've only ever had to replace the Crank Position Sensor at 180K (one BOLT, easy job). Runs strong, still orig spark plugs. They are solid and reliable and SIMPLE. The body design is simple. That's what my wife loves about it. She hates the growth in size in the new gen Frontier. Gonna drive this one till the wheels come off. Here is a tip for V6 Nissan SUV/Frontier folks.. run premium. Your truck will thank you. The engine runs much much better on premium. Also tows more.

The Honda had the best ride of the 3, very comfortable. Ford had great handling and views of the road...and of course the FWD Hybrid is the new gold standard in economy for a pickup truck. The Nissan was nice but I didn't like the ride or handling as much as the other two...probably most similar to the Toyota Tacoma. If I were taking a kayak up a rough mountain road I'd probably choose the Nissan 4x4 (or Tacoma).
      I bought a '23 Maverick. Only pull small trailers occasionally, hard to beat the price, and I'm averaging 35mpg since I've owned it (almost all Winter miles). So, I decided to go check out the new Frontiers. I found a brand new (at the time), 2023 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X that had everything I really wanted and it was in the low 40's. I think the total came to something like 44K. I drove it and it was so much more comfortable and drove so much more smoothly than the Tacoma. So, I bought it and I'm extremely happy with it. I ordered an AWD maverick XLT the week they first became available for order in Sept 2021. Took six months to be delivered. Paid sticker price of 30K. You COULD order one with plain steel wheels and no features for about 21k. But for the extra nine k I got the apple play, the better looking wheels, the AWD 250 hp 8 speed engine and the 4k tow package plus 110 outlets inside and in the bed, bed liner, rear window. Still HALF the price of a similarly equipped f-150, and smaller, more nimble and with the same carrying capacity. So far, I am very happy with it. It’s even better than my 2004 tacoma was as far as storage, power, and load. I’ll be surprised if it lasts as long as those 04 six cylinder tacomas… but as far as utility and features… I like it better.
    As regards the bed… it has a better bed than the 04 tacoma crew cab had. It has features built into the bed like a second cable clip for the tailgate that makes the truck able to haul 4x8 sheet goods. So the short bed has not been a problem at all. I routinely haul a dozen sheets of plywood, or 1500 lbs of plaster, and with the 250 horse 8 speed, you can’t even feel it.

    Love my smaller pickup. Nissan 720 - no control with a rear beam-axle. Needs more head room getting in the door. I'm driving with leaf springs, so it is rough, like Scotty's Courier.
    The trunk on a sedan is so weak, just make it an equivalent-size bed? Trunks make you load and unload your cargo in the traffic lane, in most parking situations - it is a design from the days of parallel parking, not the city of today.
    Bicycle - very small truck bed
    Camping - small truck bed with lid
    Groceries / Phones, Etc. - 12V onboard refrigerator somewhere - every vehicle needs this, even for just carrying the water that they tell us to when you venture out in hazardous weather, etc. Make it a frost-proof food/cosmetics/medicine/ phone compartment as well, like a heat-pump-AC/heater?
    Furniture / recycling / trash - small truck bed
    Plywood and building materials - full-size pickup that can tow anything, but they don't make parking lots like that (width of stall) anymore...? The truck's front doors need to be on a track, or the parking-stalls need to fatten-up.
    Maybe the trunk was just a cool thing to mount a spoiler to, that's over?
    Getting the spare tire /wheel full-sized is a good, but, I'm (at 130lbs) barely strong enough to change the largest of truck tires (like on a Jeep, Bronco, or 4Runner).

      UNLESS....it's paired w/an automatic transmission. Still tough, still good, but slow as a pig getting up to interstate speeds. And unimpressive mpg (for a 4 cyl). I wish mine had been a manual.

    I've had 5 generation 2 Frontiers; they are great trucks. Last one I had was a 2019 Pro 4 X, what a great truck - until I cleaned up a deer. Never drove the same after it was fixed.

      Ain't no vehicle going to like catapulting deer. Sorry to hear that man. Did that once w/an older Toyota PU. Got rid of it after the repair. Just wasn't right.

    Nice trucks. I am waiting to see if/when Toyota comes out with their new STOUT... at first I thought I might be interested in their Hybrid version, but I am now hoping for a normally aspirated basic truck without all the tech found on newer vehicles. Wishful thinking for sure.

    I had a Frontier. They changed the rear end 3 months into the model year cuz it was junk. The dealer couldn’t find a r replacement. Nissan said they made 10 replacements a year, and I was #7 in line.

    $35K for Ford Maverick is too much. Any used Japanese alternative is a way better option to spend money on.

    • @NVRAMboi
      @NVRAMboi 13 днів тому +2

      None of them are worth $40k asking retail price new. I agree w/you. To me the Maverick is a $25-28k vehicle tops.

      @@NVRAMboi For Maverick....rather $25K.....and only for the the top trim. With taxes rebate)))).

    • @spotdog
      @spotdog 12 днів тому +1

      $35K is for the top Lariat package, base XLT is $26K start ($add $1,500 for hybrid), $23K for the base XL. Base for my 2023 XLT Hybrid was $24,500, 2022 around $22K. Those who bought early got a decent deal on a small truck. Very few people are paying $35K for a Maverick. Better value than buying the F150 for $70K. Unless you pull a 6,000 lb trailer, of couse.
