Can you elaborate? What do you do if you need to screw into material and the screw has to embed into material, i.e. you can't access the bolt from the other side?
I would just do it at keypoints, likely just need to be able to separate the box that the wheel is on from the base, that way you can get it through most any door. Possibly do it at the end of each upright for that box, so it can be almost flat packed. The rest, for absolute rigidity, glue and screw.
Building my first cockpit based on this. Thank you for the pointers, helped a ton! Ended up buying a used Miata seat on craigslist for $30. Have the extra wood laying around from other projects. In total, I think I will have the whole build done for under $50 (excluding wheel and peddles).
Solid looking rig. If you want it to be visually stunning, get your sander and a router with 1/4” round over bit. Round over every single square edge (best before assembly). Then sand everything smooth with 150 sandpaper. Now you can use a pre-stain sealer and either stain/seal or paint. It can be gorgeous.
Kilted Dragon I would imagine it’s possible to design for a flight sim but I personally didn’t set out to do so. My seat is a Sparco Sprint-it’s a race seat for the IRL drift car I had laying about, but I don’t recommend using fixed back buckets unless you have a motion rig, a more stock car seat would’ve been way more comfortable. I was just making use of what I had haha😅

You could make another ebrake section on the other side and put the lever for thrust on it (if it uses that) but you probably want something that could pivot or slide for the flight stick(s) and a removable steering wheel to keep it out of the way during flight time
Just finished my first evening of testing last night using your videos on your homemade rig as a guide. I'm using VR so I don't need a table...I just used single 2x6 uprights with small braces at the bottom and a 2x6 on top for the wheel mount. It is super solid. I had an old rocking gaming chair (you can find em at salvation army for like $5). Downside is its not adjustable and I may upgrade to a bucket seat w/ rails from a car someday. Total cost was right around $60 and my wife enjoyed watching me build it. Win-win. Having the pedals mounted and a chair that doesn't roll away from the pedals is game changing.
100% true, wobbly gear hurts accuracy and driver traction sensing/confidence so much. Glad to hear this helped, the game chair is a pretty neat throwback too 👍🏻
I built one of these this weekend with modifications of course. The box that the seat is mounted on is a critical first step. For most measurements are based on the rail length and the width between the rails. Having a separate seat box came in handy since I had to move it back another 4 1/2 inches in order for the pedal reach to be right. Total material cost was $49.03 (US). I had a board for the racing wheel already and I did not include a gearshift or brake extensions, this lowered the cost a bit. Price did include a 2'x5' precut rug I mounted upside down on the bottom so my wood floors didn't get scratched up--and it slides around pretty easily. Thanks for both videos!
exec11 us thanks, glad I could help! The one challenge I’ve had is position my PC so I can easily run it in “desktop mode” and “sim mode”...but that’s more of a space issue than anything else 😅
You gave me a great idea to use an old computer chair to mount to the rig for a cheap seat. They almost all mount to the roller base with 4 holes into the base of the chair. It would be easy to create a bit of an angle with the wood for seat angle comfort and bolt it down! The design would be similar to how KT made the uprights for the wheel angle.
I made my rig from your plans. My favorite thing about a Wood rig is that you can add things and rebuild it easy. My drifting is so Much fun with a rig and not a wheel stand pro. Great video and great cockpit! My plan is to use it for inspiration to make a rig for my Son. I'll be using an Audi A1 front seat for him to sit on but reclined a fair bit into almost an F1 posture so the pedals will be a fair bit higher but in terms of dimensions and the angles used to give it strength this has helped me massively

Done a ton of research and your rig is the one I like the most for a cheap build. I'm only going to use it till I finish getting the 2 other screens, new computer, and upgrade my shifter and ebrake. I made it with 2x6 boards, made the 2 vertical boards the same height and put an mdf surface behind the 2x6 that held the wheel. My computer sits on it behind my screen (only 1 right now). I made a separate monitor mount that straddles the rig with legs on either side. The monitor is right over my wheelbase. I am going to wrap the whole rig and monitor mount in charcoal speakerbox carpet. I also got cabinet drawer casters and made a keyboard tray that I will wrap in mousepad material. It rolls out under the wheel or tucks in under the mdf top

Pro tip, buy a square (actually shaped like a triangle) you can use that and a pencil to draw a straight line. If you can follow it you'll get straight cuts for your circular saw (hand held saw)

Nice! You may make a wrong cut and have to redo a single piece or something, but there’s a lot of satisfaction in doing it yourself and saving some money for your sim hardware! 👌🏻
Wood cockpits do the job. They’re not perfectly rigid when you start throwing 20Nm at them, but I still think the cost to performance ratio is compelling

@@letrface_8596 if it’s solid but wobbles on the floor (like the bottom isn’t perfectly flat or the wood is bowed a little) just put it on carpet, or put some carpet or foam strips under it...they will probably deform to where it doesn’t do that like it would on, say, a concrete floor 👍🏻
I've watched a tonne of this video's and plans, and everyone complains about how hard it is to get in and out of the rigs. Isn't it an easy fix to build the rig to match the seat in the *MOST* forward position on its rails, then when you want to enter/exit the rig, the seat slides all the way back on rails, and you exit easily?
Nice ez build! Love it. When building my first rig, I got tonnes of crap advice about putting DD wheels on wood etc. Turns out it's all BS and it's strong AF.
I’ve not tried a DD wheel on my rig but it’s pretty solid. I think as long as you use large washers or a flat panel of aluminum to keep the bolts from eating up the wood it would be doable. Of course not a rigid as aluminum but certainly good enough to drive on for 4 or 5 years at least.
Hey I'm thinking of building this because all the prebuilt rigs are super expensive. How sturdy is this rig? Is there any give under very hard braking or high FFB settings? How do you think the pedal plate will hold up if I try and angle it up a bit? I don't know how well the wood screws will take that repeated force and might loosen up over time.

Just the bolds through the wood and in the wheelbase or is there any metal to make it very tight? I hope you find some time to give me a reply.
sfmish I used the included Fanatec bolts to determine the thread pitch, and bought longer ones and washers (think a fender washer from a car) to account for the added thickness of the wood. You NEED washers to distribute the tension force of the bolt across the wood though-otherwise the bolt just digs through the wood and it doesn’t get very tight. With washers it’s all good 👍🏻
How many of those 8 foot 2x4s did you end up needing for the full build? Im getting ready to pick up supplies right now to start building it but you never said how many of them were needed.
Thinking of building a rig. Not the most handy but want to at least try. Biggest concern I'm 6'3 is their a way to make it easier to get in. Like would something that can slide in and out and lock be good idea or could build more sturdy on one side and more open on other making easier to get in.
Well, moving parts frequently become a source of vibration or flex, which we generally want to avoid (and why the most serious/expensive sim cockpits are metal-it eliminates flexing the best) The safest option would probably be using seat rails with a slider like your real car has. That way you can slide the seat away from the wheel for ingress and egress. The best thing about building your own rig is that you can size it to your body, just do like I did (the concept, not the exact measurements) and build a rectangle to mount your seat to, then sit in the seat and figure out how far away your pedals should be, then use the same idea for wheel distance and height. It is not completely without flex, but I think this sort of design slays in the value per dollar department. I was using an 8Nm belt drive and load cell pedals with it before, and these days I’m on a 20Nm DD wheel. I’m not unhappy about it at all. The biggest reason I’m considering a change is to review products, cause you can’t go turning the wood into Swiss cheese to run 10 different pedal kits. But for a “set it and forget it” hardware setup it’s pretty acceptable for $50. Even if material costs have doubled, it wouldn’t be bad imho

I would build the seat box, mount the seat, and then measure how high your arms are holding them out where you want the wheel to be. A stock car seat is 100% more comfortable than a bucket seat-no reason to do a bucket unless you just want it to look more like a race car. Only reason I did is because I had a spare from owning a real race car 😆
On carpet I don’t notice anything. It’s probably 95-98% rock solid and doesn’t make any sounds. Very good for the price! I’m still using this exact same setup years later and it’s continued to hold up just as well. I built a desk for my monitors that isn’t connected to the sim rig at all, so that tiny bit of flex doesn’t make my monitors wobble...there’s a build video on it here in the channel video library too ✌🏻
C. Baseball I have no idea offhand but it’s a bit hefty, not fun to move for sure (mainly from being unwieldy not so much the weight itself) If I had to guess I’d say 50-75 lbs but I’m not really sure 😅
Runic Echoes if you have access to a few basic shop tools you can do pretty well making one yourself! And on the off chance it doesn’t turn out the way you want you’re not out much money compared to a bough frame you don’t like😁

A regular car seat from a pull a part would be way cheaper and more comfortable. I wouldn’t recommend getting a real racing bucket seat. I just had this lying around because real drift car life 😅 That said you may have to make your own rails as a lot of stock car rails aren’t all facing perpendicular to the ground, which can make bolting a seat down kind of a pain. My seat is an FIA approved Sparco Sprint, and my rails I believe are from Street Faction FWIW
I honestly don’t remember. If you already have a box of drill bits, take the bolt to them and pick one slightly thinner than the bolt. If not, go to a hardware store and do the same thing to determine the drill bit you need to buy that’s specific to the bolts in your hand, rather than the ones on my kit😅
Do you think I could mount the wheel plate and the other plate directly on top of the upright 2x4s (I dont need to angle the wheel g27 is already angled) ? Then have the support go to the uprights in line with the main frame instead of inside around the legs? The wheel wouldnt be supported by the supports inside the frame but instead directly by the upright 2x4s then and the two supports going from the front and back 2x4s would be just for extra strength.
Harrison you could probably do that, yeah. I found it easier to tie everything in and then set the wheel height and angle afterwords, then cut off the excess but there are several ways that should work! 👌🏻
Any suggestions for how to add a couple of platforms for a flight stick and throttle? Something modular that's easy to take in and out when you want to switch between driving and flying.
Hmm. Depends on how fast you want the swap to be. There’s “nuts and bolts” fast, and then there’s “dowels and voter pins” fast. I personally would do nuts and bolts since they tend to hold stronger.
@@MikeCastleberg nuts and bolts, or screws going into metal if your rig is metal, is the way to go then. You could keep a small electric drill or socket handy to do quickly get it to finger right if needed 🤔

Retro Crash assuming they fit you alright, I don’t see why not. Ideally just use a stock car seat though, they don’t look as cool but they’re waaaay more comfortable 👍🏻
The worst thing about mine is just the looks. I used construction lumber so it’s pretty rough and the wood grain reflects in paint. Not super worried about that but it always looks dusty when light catches the paint as a result.
Papa Ruffy thanks for checking out my video! 👋🏻The only thing would be positioning and tools: F1 cars position the driver way different than production chassis...paddles shifters may be used instead of a center floor mounted shifter...and grip cars may have no need for an ebrake. Those are the main things I can think of that might change house you’d want to assemble a sim racing cockpit 👍🏻
That I didn’t measure, I just had a friend hold the wood plank with the wheelbase on it and tilt it until I personally felt that the height and angle felt best. I recommend you do something similar 🤷🏻♂️

I’m using a 20nm DD wheelbase on this same build from years ago (you can see it in any of my recent sim vids) and it’s doing just fine. If it’s solid when you’re done it will stay solid with a DD base 👍🏻
Ben McCarthy that’s going to be a function of how high you want your wheel base to be relative to the seat, and at what angle you want your wheel base to be, so you may want something different than what I did. But, I’ll measure it and reply again when I get home✌🏻
EAZY GFX depends on the car I’m in TBH. 350 feels perfect to me in my S13, and I’d like that size in anything bigger like a 350Z or E36...330 feels like it fits better in AE86’s and miatas. If your sim cockpit feels cramped you might prefer a 330, that’s what I’m using in my rig but it’s also because I happened to have an extra one laying around.
I just used standard construction lumber, It’s nice and steady when driving, but if I were to take it apart and re-assemble it for a move it would probably be pretty shaky...one time use I’d guess. Leaving it assembled it’s over 2 years old and going strong!
Any idea how to make one that moves around side to side? The cheapest ones are like $2500 but I bet it could be made with much less money. I gotta figure that out some how.
That’s a bit out of my skill set. Find an automotive engineer who can spec and assemble servos and roboxylinders etc, then find a programmer who can code it to move...I think you’d pay more than 2500 for the expertise unless your friend group has all that though 😥
The objective of my vid is that you put the pedals where they fit *your* body. As in, build a seat box and put 4ft side rails on, put the pedals where you think they feel best, make a mark and cut the side rails down to that length...then do the same process to position and make uprights for the wheel base, etc. I’m 5’10 so if you copy what I did exactly odds are it will be a tight fit.
All the 2x4’s were 8 footers...It’s been years ago so I don’t remember exactly, but like add the lengths together and buy enough 8 footers to do the job. Sorry I didn’t spell it out differently 😅

@Hi, I saw your video very interesting. Sometimes you have also planned how to put a monitor connected to the station, do you think if I put thicker woods the 32 "monitor will hold me? If you can put them at what height?
Putting a monitor directly into the sim cockpit works, I was able to by putting a 2x6 board over the part behind the wheel base. But it does transfer some vibrations from the wheel and pedals to the monitor if you do it that way. After I had some time to save up I built a desk the cockpit slides under to keep the monitors from having any vibration 👌🏻
@@KameTrick I I thought of lengthening the beams, the lower ones towards the pedal board so I don't think monitors should have the vibrations of the steering wheel, otherwise I make a frame that rests directly on the ground without being fixed to the base, but what sense would it have. At what height should the monitor be placed?

I actually have a DD wheel on my rig now, it’s a 20Nm wheel running at about 50% output and my wooden rig is as solid as ever. I do want to upgrade to aluminum profile eventually but more for additional pedal mounting options. If you want to see it in action, I’ll be live-streaming some drift content in about 6 hours (9pm CT)
I made mine 48” because I used 8 foot long 2x4’s...it didn’t need to be quite that long but it was easy to cut 1 board in half 🤷🏻♂️ That’s in the video but hop that helps ✌🏻
I believe I used around three 2x4x8 boards and one 2x4x6 board...but you can be sure by watching the more detailed build breakdown video (linked in the description) and adding up the dimensions provided 👍🏻
I suppose I would look for the smoothness or levels of detail in its motion. If it’s too rough or basic in how it shifts weight from left to right turn drifting, for example, it wouldn’t be very useful to understand what the car is doing and could be more of a gimmick or possibly even a distraction 🤔 That said I don’t know much about what’s out there since it would take a brand deal/sponsorship for me to obtain one, so I can only say what feels right IRL until I get the chance to drive motion rigs in sim😅
@@KameTrick Well I have an idea of developing one, hopefully this year 😅. Considering I'm a big drift fanatic myself, I would want something of a hefty yaw angle with some jerk action reaching realism as much as possible. To have settings that would be adjustable for pitch, roll and yaw. I feel like minimum pitch and roll would be optimal for drifting. The sims Ive seen in the market don't have a lot of yaw motion but big pitch and roll motion, and they are super expensive. Even a butt kicker is like $3k, LOL Iv'e had it in mind for quite some time to make a motion sim myself, really looking forward to put my engineering skills to the test with a project like this. Would you be interested in taking part in research for the development of motor sport gaming maybe some time in the future?
@@driftkid270 that would be an interesting project for sure 👌🏻 I think many of the options on the market right now are grip-oriented so they would prioritize heavy forward/back movements for the powerful corner entry braking of track cars, but not have much yaw movement since ideally you only have slip angles in the single digits for maximum speed in grip driving. Thinking about it in more detail I can agree that more yaw angle would be fairly important since simulating the angle change on transition is a big deal. I’ll try to help if I can, yeah. The best thing to do is buy a stock vehicle seat off Craigslist, eBay, Facebook marketplace, or from a junkyard. People upgrading to a racing seat who don’t need a stock seat sitting around their flat or garage are your prime targets to buy from. Depending on the seat you get, it may not mount flat like mine, so that may complicate your build, just something to look out for 👍🏻

Samurai Medi yeah, it’s weird. Evidently the rough cut size from a lumber mill is 2x4, but then they have to plane the board (make it flat) and also they’re cut green, when they dry they shrink...so that why apparently. Curiously, the length (8ft) is still accurate 🤓

You could use 4 locking casters on the bottom. That would be a better solution and easier to move when necessary.

It would be easy to create a bit of an angle with the wood for seat angle comfort and bolt it down! The design would be similar to how KT made the uprights for the wheel angle.

Great video and great cockpit! My plan is to use it for inspiration to make a rig for my Son. I'll be using an Audi A1 front seat for him to sit on but reclined a fair bit into almost an F1 posture so the pedals will be a fair bit higher but in terms of dimensions and the angles used to give it strength this has helped me massively

Done a ton of research and your rig is the one I like the most for a cheap build. I'm only going to use it till I finish getting the 2 other screens, new computer, and upgrade my shifter and ebrake. I made it with 2x6 boards, made the 2 vertical boards the same height and put an mdf surface behind the 2x6 that held the wheel. My computer sits on it behind my screen (only 1 right now). I made a separate monitor mount that straddles the rig with legs on either side. The monitor is right over my wheelbase. I am going to wrap the whole rig and monitor mount in charcoal speakerbox carpet. I also got cabinet drawer casters and made a keyboard tray that I will wrap in mousepad material. It rolls out under the wheel or tucks in under the mdf top

Pro tip, buy a square (actually shaped like a triangle) you can use that and a pencil to draw a straight line. If you can follow it you'll get straight cuts for your circular saw (hand held saw)

Nice! You may make a wrong cut and have to redo a single piece or something, but there’s a lot of satisfaction in doing it yourself and saving some money for your sim hardware! 👌🏻

@@letrface_8596 if it’s solid but wobbles on the floor (like the bottom isn’t perfectly flat or the wood is bowed a little) just put it on carpet, or put some carpet or foam strips under it...they will probably deform to where it doesn’t do that like it would on, say, a concrete floor 👍🏻
I've watched a tonne of this video's and plans, and everyone complains about how hard it is to get in and out of the rigs. Isn't it an easy fix to build the rig to match the seat in the *MOST* forward position on its rails, then when you want to enter/exit the rig, the seat slides all the way back on rails, and you exit easily?

Nice ez build! Love it. When building my first rig, I got tonnes of crap advice about putting DD wheels on wood etc. Turns out it's all BS and it's strong AF.
I’ve not tried a DD wheel on my rig but it’s pretty solid. I think as long as you use large washers or a flat panel of aluminum to keep the bolts from eating up the wood it would be doable. Of course not a rigid as aluminum but certainly good enough to drive on for 4 or 5 years at least.

Hey I'm thinking of building this because all the prebuilt rigs are super expensive. How sturdy is this rig? Is there any give under very hard braking or high FFB settings?
How do you think the pedal plate will hold up if I try and angle it up a bit? I don't know how well the wood screws will take that repeated force and might loosen up over time.
Hi, this looks really nice, I'm not very good at this stuff but I'll make it my "winter project". Just a quick question: How did you tighten the Fanatec motor? Just the bolds through the wood and in the wheelbase or is there any metal to make it very tight?

sfmish I used the included Fanatec bolts to determine the thread pitch, and bought longer ones and washers (think a fender washer from a car) to account for the added thickness of the wood.
You NEED washers to distribute the tension force of the bolt across the wood though-otherwise the bolt just digs through the wood and it doesn’t get very tight. With washers it’s all good 👍🏻

Thinking of building a rig. Not the most handy but want to at least try. Biggest concern I'm 6'3 is their a way to make it easier to get in. Like would something that can slide in and out and lock be good idea or could build more sturdy on one side and more open on other making easier to get in.
Well, moving parts frequently become a source of vibration or flex, which we generally want to avoid (and why the most serious/expensive sim cockpits are metal-it eliminates flexing the best)
The safest option would probably be using seat rails with a slider like your real car has. That way you can slide the seat away from the wheel for ingress and egress.
The best thing about building your own rig is that you can size it to your body, just do like I did (the concept, not the exact measurements) and build a rectangle to mount your seat to, then sit in the seat and figure out how far away your pedals should be, then use the same idea for wheel distance and height.

It is not completely without flex, but I think this sort of design slays in the value per dollar department. I was using an 8Nm belt drive and load cell pedals with it before, and these days I’m on a 20Nm DD wheel. I’m not unhappy about it at all. The biggest reason I’m considering a change is to review products, cause you can’t go turning the wood into Swiss cheese to run 10 different pedal kits. But for a “set it and forget it” hardware setup it’s pretty acceptable for $50. Even if material costs have doubled, it wouldn’t be bad imho

I would build the seat box, mount the seat, and then measure how high your arms are holding them out where you want the wheel to be. A stock car seat is 100% more comfortable than a bucket seat-no reason to do a bucket unless you just want it to look more like a race car. Only reason I did is because I had a spare from owning a real race car 😆

On carpet I don’t notice anything. It’s probably 95-98% rock solid and doesn’t make any sounds. Very good for the price! I’m still using this exact same setup years later and it’s continued to hold up just as well. I built a desk for my monitors that isn’t connected to the sim rig at all, so that tiny bit of flex doesn’t make my monitors wobble...there’s a build video on it here in the channel video library too ✌🏻

C. Baseball I have no idea offhand but it’s a bit hefty, not fun to move for sure (mainly from being unwieldy not so much the weight itself) If I had to guess I’d say 50-75 lbs but I’m not really sure 😅

A regular car seat from a pull a part would be way cheaper and more comfortable. I wouldn’t recommend getting a real racing bucket seat. I just had this lying around because real drift car life 😅
That said you may have to make your own rails as a lot of stock car rails aren’t all facing perpendicular to the ground, which can make bolting a seat down kind of a pain.
My seat is an FIA approved Sparco Sprint, and my rails I believe are from Street Faction FWIW
a chop saw i can really only do strait cuts a miter saw is better because you can cut it with many different angles
If I had a mitre I definitely would’ve used it, just wasn’t in my toolkit when I needed to build this rig 😅
I'm following this, almost exactly, when drilling holes for the shifter, handbrake and drivetrain, what width drill bit do you use?
I honestly don’t remember. If you already have a box of drill bits, take the bolt to them and pick one slightly thinner than the bolt. If not, go to a hardware store and do the same thing to determine the drill bit you need to buy that’s specific to the bolts in your hand, rather than the ones on my kit😅
Do you think I could mount the wheel plate and the other plate directly on top of the upright 2x4s (I dont need to angle the wheel g27 is already angled) ? Then have the support go to the uprights in line with the main frame instead of inside around the legs?
The wheel wouldnt be supported by the supports inside the frame but instead directly by the upright 2x4s then and the two supports going from the front and back 2x4s would be just for extra strength.
Harrison you could probably do that, yeah. I found it easier to tie everything in and then set the wheel height and angle afterwords, then cut off the excess but there are several ways that should work! 👌🏻

Hmm. Depends on how fast you want the swap to be. There’s “nuts and bolts” fast, and then there’s “dowels and voter pins” fast. I personally would do nuts and bolts since they tend to hold stronger.

@@MikeCastleberg nuts and bolts, or screws going into metal if your rig is metal, is the way to go then. You could keep a small electric drill or socket handy to do quickly get it to finger right if needed 🤔

The worst thing about mine is just the looks. I used construction lumber so it’s pretty rough and the wood grain reflects in paint. Not super worried about that but it always looks dusty when light catches the paint as a result.

Papa Ruffy thanks for checking out my video! 👋🏻The only thing would be positioning and tools: F1 cars position the driver way different than production chassis...paddles shifters may be used instead of a center floor mounted shifter...and grip cars may have no need for an ebrake. Those are the main things I can think of that might change house you’d want to assemble a sim racing cockpit 👍🏻

That I didn’t measure, I just had a friend hold the wood plank with the wheelbase on it and tilt it until I personally felt that the height and angle felt best. I recommend you do something similar 🤷🏻♂️

I’m using a 20nm DD wheelbase on this same build from years ago (you can see it in any of my recent sim vids) and it’s doing just fine. If it’s solid when you’re done it will stay solid with a DD base 👍🏻

Ben McCarthy that’s going to be a function of how high you want your wheel base to be relative to the seat, and at what angle you want your wheel base to be, so you may want something different than what I did. But, I’ll measure it and reply again when I get home✌🏻

Side question.. what size diameter of the wheel do you recommend? I’ve found a cheap one 350mm (13.77”) but im wondering if its too large
EAZY GFX depends on the car I’m in TBH. 350 feels perfect to me in my S13, and I’d like that size in anything bigger like a 350Z or E36...330 feels like it fits better in AE86’s and miatas. If your sim cockpit feels cramped you might prefer a 330, that’s what I’m using in my rig but it’s also because I happened to have an extra one laying around.

What type of wood you used? Is it steady?
I just used standard construction lumber, It’s nice and steady when driving, but if I were to take it apart and re-assemble it for a move it would probably be pretty shaky...one time use I’d guess. Leaving it assembled it’s over 2 years old and going strong!
Any idea how to make one that moves around side to side? The cheapest ones are like $2500 but I bet it could be made with much less money. I gotta figure that out some how.
That’s a bit out of my skill set. Find an automotive engineer who can spec and assemble servos and roboxylinders etc, then find a programmer who can code it to move...I think you’d pay more than 2500 for the expertise unless your friend group has all that though 😥

The objective of my vid is that you put the pedals where they fit *your* body. As in, build a seat box and put 4ft side rails on, put the pedals where you think they feel best, make a mark and cut the side rails down to that length...then do the same process to position and make uprights for the wheel base, etc.
I’m 5’10 so if you copy what I did exactly odds are it will be a tight fit.

@Hi, I saw your video very interesting. Sometimes you have also planned how to put a monitor connected to the station, do you think if I put thicker woods the 32 "monitor will hold me? If you can put them at what height?
Putting a monitor directly into the sim cockpit works, I was able to by putting a 2x6 board over the part behind the wheel base. But it does transfer some vibrations from the wheel and pedals to the monitor if you do it that way. After I had some time to save up I built a desk the cockpit slides under to keep the monitors from having any vibration 👌🏻
@@KameTrick I I thought of lengthening the beams, the lower ones towards the pedal board so I don't think monitors should have the vibrations of the steering wheel, otherwise I make a frame that rests directly on the ground without being fixed to the base, but what sense would it have. At what height should the monitor be placed?

I actually have a DD wheel on my rig now, it’s a 20Nm wheel running at about 50% output and my wooden rig is as solid as ever. I do want to upgrade to aluminum profile eventually but more for additional pedal mounting options.

If you were to own a motion sim rig, what would you look for in it?
I suppose I would look for the smoothness or levels of detail in its motion. If it’s too rough or basic in how it shifts weight from left to right turn drifting, for example, it wouldn’t be very useful to understand what the car is doing and could be more of a gimmick or possibly even a distraction 🤔
That said I don’t know much about what’s out there since it would take a brand deal/sponsorship for me to obtain one, so I can only say what feels right IRL until I get the chance to drive motion rigs in sim😅
@@KameTrick Well I have an idea of developing one, hopefully this year 😅. Considering I'm a big drift fanatic myself, I would want something of a hefty yaw angle with some jerk action reaching realism as much as possible. To have settings that would be adjustable for pitch, roll and yaw. I feel like minimum pitch and roll would be optimal for drifting.
The sims Ive seen in the market don't have a lot of yaw motion but big pitch and roll motion, and they are super expensive. Even a butt kicker is like $3k, LOL
Iv'e had it in mind for quite some time to make a motion sim myself, really looking forward to put my engineering skills to the test with a project like this. Would you be interested in taking part in research for the development of motor sport gaming maybe some time in the future?
@@driftkid270 that would be an interesting project for sure 👌🏻 I think many of the options on the market right now are grip-oriented so they would prioritize heavy forward/back movements for the powerful corner entry braking of track cars, but not have much yaw movement since ideally you only have slip angles in the single digits for maximum speed in grip driving.
Thinking about it in more detail I can agree that more yaw angle would be fairly important since simulating the angle change on transition is a big deal. I’ll try to help if I can, yeah. Hit me up on discord (FYI my response times can be 1-2 days depending on what projects I have going on, I’m don’t take it personally 😁)

The best thing to do is buy a stock vehicle seat off Craigslist, eBay, Facebook marketplace, or from a junkyard. People upgrading to a racing seat who don’t need a stock seat sitting around their flat or garage are your prime targets to buy from.
Depending on the seat you get, it may not mount flat like mine, so that may complicate your build, just something to look out for 👍🏻

Samurai Medi it’s actually less, surprisingly. A 2x4 is actually like 1.5x3 or something so it’s important to measure it😅😅😅
@@KameTrick that is odd, why even call them 2x or whatever if it isn't the measurement.
Samurai Medi yeah, it’s weird. Evidently the rough cut size from a lumber mill is 2x4, but then they have to plane the board (make it flat) and also they’re cut green, when they dry they shrink...so that why apparently. Curiously, the length (8ft) is still accurate 🤓
