There isn't a historical record that supports the idea that early architects employed an understanding of acoustical engineering when designing their structures. Their primary concern was the aesthetics and size. But sound quality was more of a hit or miss sort of thing. And not all ancient halls produce good sound. Reverb has to be subtle or it can be unusable for musical performances. But reverb is going to happen with hard walls made without sound absorbing materials. Even natural caves have this reverberating quality. It's the nature of the beast. But attributing some sort of science or technology to something that arose by chance is misleading.
