Always buy the best sounding speakers that are within your budget. You will get the most enjoyment, and you will be content with your achievement. There are always going to be speakers come out that are better. Do not allow yourself to try and achieve perfection....it will never happen. Always purchase within your budget. Always try and look at your system subjectively. Do you hear issues with your system? Do you notice weaknesses within your system? If no, then try and keep control of your OCD. If needed, get your average Joe, have them listen to your rig....then listen to them praise how great your system sounds and how they wished they had something like what you have. Sometimes all we need is some sort of assurance that you have reached some sort of pinnacle of perfection. It is easier for a novice to convince you, then buying something " You think " will improve your system. If you paid a lot for the upgrade, but degraded the sound of your system.....That is even a bigger let down..... Yes, I have OCD too. It isn't easy.
So true. I'm currently comparing the A500s to the S300s paired with a tube amp and I'm making myself sick trying to decide which set up I like best. Both are really good. Sometimes I think I hear a bigger soundstage with the S300s, but then the A500s will blow me away with their dynamics and accurate drum sound.
The thing that gets me interested is that you can start of with two audiophile speakers and add to it to do home theater without having both two channel stereo amp and HT receiver. Please do another review of the A700 and WISA for HT.
I couldn't agree more. This is a product that's VASTLY ahead of the rest. I mean there are other good powered speakers out there like Q-Active 200's, KEF LS-50 ii's, the ELAC Navis Arb-51's, Kii 3's, even the cheap Klipsch the 5's... all of which I've considered buying. But this speaker is the only one I don't worry about in the long run. It's almost like a stock market investment that will end up giving much more back to you. And their usage is incredibly versatile. I can stream, I can Bluetooth, I can use ROON...If I wanna use them as studio monitors connected to XLR (in stereo, probably not in surround) I can. Home theater, sure. Gaming, absolutely! (Hopefully and maybe even in Dolby atmos at some point!) And improvements are coming, from the future HT options, a SUBWOOFER whose offload might even improve the A500 frequency a bit, the user interface on the app, the master tunings list, possibly even bug/connectivity fixes/improvements either with the speakers or the hub. I mean there is a LOT to look forward to. It's the first time I've seen a HiFi setup that functions like a modern video game that receives constant bug fixes, graphics improvements, new DLCs and level additions etc. Not to mention, since it's active, it reduces my peripheral needs; It reduces the work that goes into finding DAC's, Amps, and streamers with the right "synergy." And they sound great. Buchardt has given us these things...something we can live with for YEARS! What more could we ask for?
That basement is a great space to do reviews in. I would dim the lights outside of the area I was filming in and create an intimate space effect for the review. But, I have no idea what I'm on about and have never made a video. I think I see great potential for that basement though.
I’m wondering the same. Zeos was also exceptionally impressed with the Genelec 8241’s too. Suspect there isn’t a “best”, it all depends on what you’re looking for. Suspect the Genelecs are more detailed and more suited to listening at close distances (near field monitors). Whereas the A500’s have a more cohesive sound and better at listening from further away (living room distances). What makes both speakers impressive is the computer based DSP tuning.

I pre-ordered these a little while ago. Should receive them somewhere early next year. Glad to see this review confirms my decision. Before these came out I was considering something like the Hegel H190 with the Dynaudio Special Forty which together would cost more (not even counting the cables). But these Buchardts are much more convenient with less wires (less clutter) which is also an important criteria for me. With how everything is tuned to work together well in this speaker it should also be about as good (or maybe even better) than the other combo. I now have an old (much cheaper) setup (yamaha amp & b&w speakers) that I used for two decades, so I felt I could make a bit of a splash with my next setup.
@@gatobakuniano Room correction works only on iOS which is the largest remaining con besides maybe the remote which is a bit glitchy. There is now finally an Android app which is good. There were wireless dropout issues that almost made me return them and were finally(!!!) fixed recently but they seem perfectly stable now. SQ is very good after room correction, especially with the newest mid forward tunings (there have been several generations by now). It's amazing how much clean low end these small boxes can produce and I do get the imaging and soundstage that Zeos refers to which also speaks to good high frequency response. The mids are nicely fleshed out, it's hard to tell it's class D amplification since it's not dry at all. Overall I'm very happy with these speakers and I think they will do very well in most moderately sized (anything that is not huge) rooms and apartments. You may want to go with the A700 if you have a very large room. Maybe a slight worry is that the media box and the remote (the latter being machined quite well) are of questionable quality and are sometimes quirky. But not so quirky that they put me off of these speakers for now.
I had a set of KEF LS50 wireless for about ten months before the amps died in the left channel. Turns out it’s a common problem with the speakers. I sold them after repair.
