I’ve owned 1000Watt, 12 inch, QSC KW 122 PA speakers with DSP and used them at home for watching movies just fine. At a gig, they would comfortably fill a room twice the size of a basketball court? This sounds like the source input was too high gain to begin with?
Thank you Zeos for your honesty. I was trying to decide between the M300 Mk II and these and I think these are probably too much for my small room. Your videos are always very entertaining. I currently have Klipsch the Fives. But I want something a bit better. You said the M300 Mk II were better than the Edifier S3000 Pro, so I am trusting you.

I lost like 200 Sound Demos from UA-cam. That is why I placed all sound demo's behind a safe PayWall on Patreon and SubscribeStar. Its currently Audio-Only re-uploads but its at least available.
So they're a driver level trim not a Baxendal treble and bass. The intro told me.. Not a near field listening unit. BX5a deluxe once they get the caps replaced work nice for $100 set. I didn't like the 8" version for the same reason. I'd even argue a 3" set for a desktop monitor might be optimal. I actually pair my 5" with an 8" set of the Energy 8" sub.. A clone with Mirage and a couple others. Does a thing. Bass presence as you say is no longer lacking. These things have a battle as a mastering set and are a bit much for anything under a 14ft triangle.
8 inches of swan bruh, ouch! I'm confused by their product lineup as they had the M3A and had just released the M5A in the us for sale. Now there is a M300 Mk2 and M500 which are both active as well. They used to have a passive set of M300 so assumed the M500 would be the passive M5a. So confused with their product lineup.
In order : M5A, M3A MKII, M3A, M500, M300 MKII and M300. The M300 is the only 2 way from everything I just listed. And anything with a '5' doesnt have an MKII.
Hey zeos, what speaker placement do you recommend for m300 mkii. I know that speaker placement varies from room to room, but as a rough gauge how far should they be apart and from the walls?
Using these as the center of the HT universe is WJWD. I'd like to find the most whispered movie and demo your idea vs a more conventional center. I might be able to turn off the closed captions if I had Swans in the center. Your new lair is FAAF! Your reviews are always worth the watch.
They are there and they are magical. Even my friend who didn't like the idea was DESTROYED when we did fury road and you heard everything from 18 feet away
Good suggestion👍 I have a large room. 25ft x 16ft, with 10ft walls and an open loft style ceiling. I’m thinking of using them as stand alone stereo speakers for music and movies with my large screen projector set up. This video was over a year ago now. I’m wondering if theres been any updates or modifications?
How on earth zeos are you not even little bit curious of what will happen at 40 vol? I would have gone to other side of the room and unpaused just for shits & giggles.😂
It's too bad that with these, the M300s (or even any of the Edifiers), you can't hook up a seperate sub woofer to it. That's what's needed, the ability to add a seperate sub to get that deep rumble and punch that none of these speakers can give you, esp if you need to lower the speaker volume without losing deep bass.
Well, i got Edifier R2850DB and it got sub-out. Once anything plugged into that sub-out port, the speaker would go into "sub assisted" mode, with the sub crossover point around or at 100Hz. The thing that sucks is that you can't adjust that crossover freq. Other speakers from Edifier like R1850DB, 1855DB, and maybe the models that R2850 replaced (R2800DB, and R2750DB) also has sub out. In that case you feed your input to your speakers first, then from speakers to your sub. For Edifier S Series, it has balanced inputs and also Aux In (RCA input) and that is what you need to add subwoofer. Some subwoofers take stereo input (L+R) and then relay out the crossovered output to your speakers via 2 balanced output port, just feed them to your speakers input. In this case your input is fed to your sub first, and then it goes to your speakers.
Look at Z’s video on how to add subs. Theres a powered speaker section. He has a sub with a frequency cut off switch. Running the signal from a DAC, into the sub, then out of the sub to the powered speakers. With the switch set at 80Hz, it only passes higher frequencies above that to the speakers, and the sub handles the lows. SVS do a sub with the same facility. Z stated that its very rare, but very useful in unlocking the speaker from constantly trying to drive down to hit the lows. The sub removes those frequencies from the signal passed on to the speakers so it unlocks its potential. Usually, even with a sub out, the speaker is still being told to drive low, as it receives the same signal as the sub.
I've been subscribed for a couple years but have been away for a bit because of life. When did you get the new place? So much better for your channel than that apartment. Really allows you to go to a whole other level.
Zeos, is it ok to review speakers in a concrete basement ? Wouldn't an acoustically controlled environment be better? I mean, I can imagine the reverberations just ruin the experience
Hey Zeos. You should really Really....REALLY...speak to Swan about redoing these speakers. They seem to be discontinuing them because of all the unwanted publicity they've gotten. Just like you, I couldn't wait to here what these were gonna sound like when they first came out. They not bad. They just need some definite tweeking. They didn't really redesign these. They just gave em a 8" woofer, stuck em in a larger box and called it a day. So now the dsp is causing the top two smaller drivers to ring much harder to keep up. How about replacing the 2" driver with....oh maybe a 3-4" driver instead. And also a slightly larger tweeter as well. And I really didn't think they needed to go with an 8" woofer. A 6 1/4 - 7" driver with slightly more excursion. It ain't like they gotta rework an entire new crossover network to achieve this. The dsp should have a much easier task of smoothing everything out for home audio bliss once they get the top two drivers corrected. And also adding the ability to hook up a subwoofer to them would really put these in a class by themselves. I think a lot of people would be willing to pay excess of $1400 for these once....or if they decide to get em right. Cause they not that that far off from being the stallions they supposed to be.
I wish I had these in my first apartment. I was stupid. I chose the bottom unit and for some reason the person who lived above me loved vaccuming his bedroom after midnight on Saturday or Sunday night. Sure, I should have been out partying. The only thing I could do was turn on my music really loud and put in earplugs. I can sleep with loud music, can sleep with someone vaccuming me ahead of me.
Zeos, can you please tell me what camera you are using? I'm assuming it's a Go Pro. Are you using a head strap or a hat clip-on mount? Any info on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Z, I believe you had too hot of an input via COAX off your DAC. In the future, try lowering your line-out a bit in the DAC to match the XLR input of the Phono stage & you’re golden. They’re not too much speaker, they just weren’t set-up evenly for the review.
Hi Z, I'm from Denmark 👍 have been following for years. Great Channel! - I'm really into swan and want to get a pair, but I'm wondering if the m5a is better and worth the extra money. Are you going to review them at some point? Thanks 😃
Run a nano-digi to cut the output down to say 40% to the speakers so you can have better fine grained control of volume with it's remote, assuming Swan won't fix this via firmware update.
Good suggestion👍 I have a large room. 25ftx16ft with 10ft walls and an open loft style ceiling. This video was over a year ago now. I’m wondering if theres been any updates or modifications?
Wouldn't setting the source at a low level volume and controlling it via the amp put more "usage/stress" on the amp? Not that its a bad thing, the amp is supposed to be used I know, I've always just wondered this. Correct me if im wrong, but setting the source to 80%-100% is ideal I believe.
Does this company make a full floor standing speaker? I couldn't find a website for this company but I found a pair of swan 2.3 ultra floor standing speakers. They're crazy line array!! $19,000 for the pair.
I just ordered the M5A. They should arrive in about a week. I have the S3000Pro from Edifier and to be honest i can't even imagine something to sound better than them in dynamic DSP mode. They wiped the floor with vintage floorstanding speakers like Infinity 7, 7.1 & even 9.2. in 4 out of 5 songs.
@@invisible9455 i heard the m5a before, I was just blown away. Bloody dsp at its best. The s3000pro sounds like a thin sounding toy compared to the m5a. Youll know exactly what I mean in a weeks time. Lol!
You just wait.. If the M3a did what they did in revision 1 then the M5a should shit on everything in any price range so long as you set them up in a nice space.
What is very hard to believe about these is, I have a 300wpc 2ch amp that cost $1500. And that's before speakers. How could these provide more output than whatever speaker I hook up to that amp for significantly less?
There are multiple reasons why. Active crossover vs passive crossover. The distance between amp and speaker units. And there are way more reasons why most active speakers will outperform passive ones.
@@JoshyLats I run them through the desk top computer. Windows seems to govern a lot of power out. But I added an equalizer app program, and that seems to be fixed. I think the power is good now.
Hi, i have a question about my (potential) home audio system- i bought a pair of klipsch rp160m speakers and went to an audio store to decide on an amp. They sold me an onkyo a9110 which is supposed to be a pretty good integrated amplifier. I also have an active subwoofer and it seemed like a good deal but on reading about amplifiers i noticed that the wattage seemingly isnt enough to support the speakers. The klipsch run on 100w rms at 8 ohms, the amp has 50w+50w rating at 4 ohms. Reviews about the amp say that it can deliver alot of power because of its high quality, and people say about the klipsch that they dont need much power to get loud. Can i combine those components safely?
You most definitely can. I'd only consider getting more power if you find yourself running it at 60%+ power regularly. The common wisdom says that you shouldn't really run an amp past the 12 o'clock position. That's because you want to stay within an amps "linear range." Hope that helps.
You say this is the best speaker under x money. Are you comparing to towers on the market at the same current pricing? Since you mostly do bookshelf reviews nowadays. Diy? Boutique in the same range? Or just compared to what's in your back catalogue on UA-cam and on the forum reviews? Would love to see some diy, and tower reviews from you zeos. Your videos and recommendations have never let me down when it comes to headphones and bookshelves, but now it's time to just get BIG. I got this big ass house now because adulting, and I need lots of big ass speakers to blow my money on now. Little just ain't cutting it anymore zeos. It just ain't cutting it nomore 🤦♀️😭
Swan makes some amazing speakers. I have the M300 Captain America for my TV. Their customer service, however, is wretched... awful... wretchedly awful... and it sux, too.
Yeah, I spoke to them about small issues with my M200Mkiii+ and they didn't reply to me about a replacement remote (remote would randomly mute when using volume control) and when hooked up to my Ps3 when surround sound was active they would spit out this death static noise, but I figured if i set the ps3 source to stereo it fixes it, But it sounded awful when it was pumping out the static noise, I thought they were gonna break. Other than that, they are amazing speakers, Looks, Sound, Build. Go Swan! But yeah better customer service
is there a way you can get around this whole copyright thing? its annoying that you can only play 10 seconds and have to pause it. How can you do the sound demos? I'm guessing they're unmonetized?
@@iknowyounot88 Well, when i made that comment, i only had watched the first 2 minutes of the video, only watched the rest latter. And the comment was not meant to be taken 100% seriously, it was a joke and was also meant as a caricature of the person i am. So, i was exaggerating a little, but that´s the type of person i am. Most of the things that Zeos said may apply to normal people, but not to me. I do not only like it loud, i need it loud. For you to have an idea, my only sound system currently consists of a pair of Adam T5V monitors, with a Fioo headphone amp which i use as preamp, connected to the computer. I have the speakers no more 40/45 cm (less than a foot and a half) from me, and directed towards me. I listen them usually at levels close to the max, and sometimes full max. They are rated to put out 106 dB at 1 meter, so they must be reaching more than 112 dB, maybe close to 115 dB, where i sit. So, if i were to use these Swans in the living room, they would be maybe some 10 feet away from me. And for them to reach way above my listening levels at that distance, they would have to reach way above 120 dB, close to 130 dB, at 1 meter. If that is not the case (i doubt it), then what Zeos said about them being way too much loud does not apply to me, only to normal people. Having said that, i admit that after having watched the whole video, i became very curious, to the point where i want to listen to them, just to make sure. Because if i´m wrong about what i said above, these may be the right speakers for me. The problem is that in my country, i cannot have access to them, not even to buy, let alone to just listen. And that´s a shame...
Maybe replace those trashcans with HD700. You bought DT1990 because of the praise from various salesmans on youtube and you got scammed. Quality source won't save them.
Z doesn't understand - more than half of us are masochists , why would we keep watching this channel and spending money and money and mo money. Z, you just sold more of these than any Swans so far...
How about use them without bass boost and treble boost ? Maybe they will sound quieter and like normal speakers and with actual dynamic range and not compressed. Pretty sure is like enabling loudness equalization on some amps or on windows for listening at night so you hear all frequencies at the same loudness. Yeah. Brain magic.
I have these speakers. Have had them for a few months. Like Z said, They have beautiful sound, Great Clarity, and the dsp tune on them is magic with the knobs cranked. But they are beautiful like a thunderstorm. You sit on your front porch with a beer and hear the rolling thunder and it sounds beautiful when it's miles away. These are what it would be like if your front porch was inside the thunder storm. It Is SOOOOO much sound. Honestly, I love them because I'm one of those people who have certain songs that I just cant listen to loud enough because I want to drown in the music, these are like a freaking ocean dropping on your head which is exactly what I want. These will be too much for most people. This was a perfect review and exactly how I would describe them. Great sound, but you need a LOT of space because the sound that comes out of these guys is BIG.
Whelp...I'd been considering a set of these for a while (several weeks). Got as far as 25:47 before I clicked "place order". Never say "it's too much" - that's one of those "Challenge accepted!" kind of phrases. :)
@@ZReviews - so Z, I have a question - how many different input methods did you try? I ask because I got my speakers a couple days ago and started the break in process with a few hours of music, and I haven't had the issue you did with the super sensitive volume. I want to preface with the thought of why I bought these - I like my music on the loud side. I intend to use these as room fillers, in a large room and a small shop, so loud was ideal. I did my first listening/break-in session in the room, about 14'x25', and found a few things. I used my phone over Bluetooth for a source, and figured that I could just adjust the phones volume to add low volume resolution to the speakers if I needed to, but I didn't need it - with the phone up at full I had normal volume control of the speakers. I couldn't even hear anything till 4 clicks up, and I found 15 to 18 clicks up to be comfortably room filling. I also want to point out that I like to sing along to the music and I'm rather loud, but even up at right around 18 clicks up, I was still louder than the speakers when I was belting (5 finger death punch- wrong side of heaven is a good example). In your review you couldn't have gotten them that high - so I wonder if it's a source issue, or did they maybe update the speakers firmware or something like that? Maybe you got a set with an issue? But I have normal fine grain volume control with mine, at least over Bluetooth. I'll try one of the other connections when I'm able and if it's different I'll follow this up.
Great information👍 I have a large room, 25ftx16ft with 10ft walls and an open loft style ceiling, and would love to use these as standalone stereo speakers for music and movies with my projector. This video was over a year ago now. I’m wondering if theres been any updates or modifications?
@T Z - as far as I'm aware, no - mo updates to the speakers. Swans did release a new updated dl speaker of a different line a bit ago, and Z reviewed it. Based on that review, this hsveva feeling they knight be about to update these to a newer edition too, though that's pure speculation on my part. I can say I love these speakers - they're awesome. 😀
@@Broadpaw_Fox Thanks for the response🙏 I’ve been looking on the internet and can’t find any images of the bottom of the speaker body. Are the feet screwed into place? Are their any screws anywhere under there? I’m thinking of a floating mount system, and it would be useful to be able to fix them securely to a plate at the base.

Is there a subwoofer output on the back? Or would I need to use a pre amp with a sub output?
No sub out, you would need to get funky
So confused with their product lineup.
wonder if these would be good PA speakers for an outdoor event area that don't want the shitty concert speaker sound.
98% of Swan are active. The M5a and M3a are just a higher end design even though they don't cost much more.
In order : M5A, M3A MKII, M3A, M500, M300 MKII and M300. The M300 is the only 2 way from everything I just listed. And anything with a '5' doesnt have an MKII.
How do these compare to the Edifier S3000Pro?
Hey zeos, what speaker placement do you recommend for m300 mkii. I know that speaker placement varies from room to room, but as a rough gauge how far should they be apart and from the walls?
you want an equilateral triangle. I'd stay at least 6" off the walls
Thanks! Will try moving it around to experiment
toeing in the M300 made a huge diff for me :)
Well done. I own a pair of towers that were somewhat famously described as "perfect speaker for psychos". I find them to be about right.
@@hampyonce What are your Psycho Speakers?
I'm interested - Cheers, A Former Psycho
How on earth zeos are you not even little bit curious of what will happen at 40 vol? I would have gone to other side of the room and unpaused just for shits & giggles.😂
WHAT
It's too bad that with these, the M300s (or even any of the Edifiers), you can't hook up a seperate sub woofer to it.
So have been looking and looking for any of the Swan speakers (M500 or M330 Mll) and cannot find them anywhere! Any suggestions? PLEASE!!!!
Play them loudly upstairs in the big room!
Yeow Swan for the win. what is happening with their websites though???

I've been subscribed for a couple years but have been away for a bit because of life. When did you get the new place? So much better for your channel than that apartment. Really allows you to go to a whole other level.
Its like the Adam T8Vs i guess. The T5Vs were perfect with the ribbon tweeter and 5” and changing it to an 8” makes it go wack
How would these be for near-field, computer speakers?
Zeos, is it ok to review speakers in a concrete basement ? Wouldn't an acoustically controlled environment be better? I mean, I can imagine the reverberations just ruin the experience
Are you new here?
Lmao he is new!!
So... they're for an actual (small) cinema.
Not for home in any way except multi-millinaires, just ... professional space for a LARGE room.
It’s like a Pro Audio speaker that’s to nice to be outside. add some big PA subwoofers = heaven!
Cause they not that that far off from being the stallions they supposed to be.
do you know how speakers are built?
Will the Swan m500 work with an emotiva pre amp pt 100 I am using an older pair of jbl lrs 8 self-powered speakers need to upgrade
so great for auditoriums? (auditoria, if you prefer)
These are some speakers you don't need to put your grasses on for.
Zeos, can you please tell me what camera you are using? I'm assuming it's a Go Pro. Are you using a head strap or a hat clip-on mount? Any info on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Headstrap Hero8 Black.
Z, I believe you had too hot of an input via COAX off your DAC. In the future, try lowering your line-out a bit in the DAC to match the XLR input of the Phono stage & you’re golden. They’re not too much speaker, they just weren’t set-up evenly for the review.
12:57 they've gone too far. 😂😂you should put them outside and do the distance test like the soundboks video.
Are these speakers a hazard to your health? Looking to upgrade from jbl 305's you recommended years ago.
Does this company make a full floor standing speaker?
I couldn't find a website for this company but I found a pair of swan 2.3 ultra floor standing speakers.

I just ordered the M5A.
They should arrive in about a week.

They wiped the floor with vintage floorstanding speakers like Infinity 7, 7.1 & even 9.2. in 4 out of 5 songs.
The m5a will shit on the s3000pro, i mean literally shit on it. Fact. You will either sell the Ed off or relegate it to another smaller room.

@@ZReviews the m5a will shit on the a500 too. Lmfao! One thing weird though, only the '3's have an MKII, the '5's dont till this day.
What is very hard to believe about these is, I have a 300wpc 2ch amp that cost $1500. And that's before speakers. How could these provide more output than whatever speaker I hook up to that amp for significantly less?
His Klipsch big boys are using monoblocked Crown amplifiers that each do like 1,000 watts, and I think they only cost him like $500 a pop
There are multiple reasons why. Active crossover vs passive crossover. The distance between amp and speaker units. And there are way more reasons why most active speakers will outperform passive ones.

@@Grassy_Gnoll Thanks, i was seriously worried that i was going to damage my speakers👌🏻
You say this is the best speaker under x money. Are you comparing to towers on the market at the same current pricing? Since you mostly do bookshelf reviews nowadays. Diy? Boutique in the same range? Or just compared to what's in your back catalogue on UA-cam and on the forum reviews?

Yeah I am 100% demonetized with Sound Demos and I'd say 25% with speaker videos. No real way around it.
Zeos.....These or the Klipsch RP-600M's, Cuz I have the 600M's. :)

I´ll just wait patiently for the release of the Swan M1000. That will be the speaker for me...
You trying to fill an auditorium? Lol
Hi i have dt1990 pro + element 2 can someone recomend best sound quality streaming service in europe because quboz is not avaible in Poland.

I tried all the ways. I did every increment on the clock for both knobs in both directions.
