There was a show that kinda follows along your thought process about a comedy concerning the Devil and it was called Reaper and it had Ray Wise as the Devil. The premise was that a 21 year old whose parents sold his soul to the Devil had to work for him. It came out in 2007, but only lasted about a season and a half. I vaguely remember watching it.
Frozen Empire has definately under performed at the box office. It won't even come close to breaking even on money generated through ticket sales, but it might make a decent profit in the long run through, streaming, dvd, merchandise and promotional tie ins.
It is a little unfair to compare it to Godzilla x Kong. Unlike Frozen Empire, Godzilla X Kong has a huge advantage in that it's playing in China, where it's made $125'800'000. It's also playing in various other asian countries such as Taiwan where it's made $7'400'000, Malaysia where it's made $6'000'000, Thailand where it's made $3'800'000 and India where it's made $14'700'000. The Godzilla brand has far more brand awareness and cultural significance than Ghostbusters across asia in general. It was also released in Brazil where it's earned $7'900'000.
If Frozen Empire had been released in most of these markets I don't think it would have done anywhere near as well as Godzilla X Kong but it may have made them a bit more money. The fact that it's missing out on China though is a huge loss. Again, it wouldn't have made as much as Godzilla X Kong but it would have probably made them a significant amount of money.
Maybe Sony will look at this and decide to greenlight a Stay Puft X Murray the Mantis film. They might even decide to make Stay Puft X King Kong, as the King Kong character is in the public domain, but the copyright law around it is a tangled mess.
I’ve been missing Toy Anxiety, I guess this will do 😀
I kinda worried we won’t get one more film. I think this was the litmus test to see if this franchise can be really profitable. Hopefully we get one more, but I’m extremely skeptical about it.
Love to know what you guys think of Late Night With the Devil
Those red headed step children.
