Fix LG TV backlight for cheap! (Model 55UJ6200)

- This LG 55UJ6200 TV turns on and has sound but has a black screen. The problem was one of the LEDS in the backlight was bad. After replacing the bad led it works like a charm.
To do this repair
1. Take off the back assembly
2. Take off the front screen assembly
3. Tape the ribbon cable from the LCD to the back of the LCD panel
4. Use suction cups to remove LCD panel
5. Test all LED strips, take out any strips that are bad and fix them it helps to put them all in a row and do them all at once.
6. Re-install them and double check that they are all working
7. Re-glue the led covers
8. Re-assemble the TV.

you can also tack it on with a soldering iron but it's a bit tricky

Having this same issue. Did you replace the entire strip? And not just a single LED? Thinking about just replacing all the strips altogether.

which Led model number?
I unhooked the led connection at the back, measuring at the power supply side of the connection its reading in mV(60ish on one, 58ish on the other).
Bad power board then? I don't see any visible issues on the board.
Have the same issue with back light, flickers when turned on, sound, can see dim image with a bright flash light close to the screen but I’m also having the problem of the tv turning off after like 30 mins of being on also? Is that a whole new issue or would back lights going out cause that to happen also?? I can live without the image working, I normally just use the tv for music and background noise.
I’m having this same problem. Just skeptical about taking my tv apart. Any suggestions?

Is it always the LED themselves that are the issue or could it be the power supply for the LEDs? Mine quickly flashes for half a second when I turn it on then the backlights go off. Wouldn't it be possible for the lights to flash if 1 LED was bad?

Have the same issue and same TV. Tested the voltage on both wires going to the backlight cable. Each of them is reading around 58. I know it should be 60, so thinking 1 led is broken per circuit. Is this still enough to shut the whole tv down?

I have the same model tv with a backlight issue. Black screen. After watching the video I'm not sure I can do all of that without causing any other pro problems. How much would this cost at a normal repair shop or should I just buy another tv.
I would repair it for you for $80 but I am cheap! and do the repair at home. I know of another person who got it done for $150 but they would replace all the LEDS. The key issue is turn your backlight brightness down to 50% to make the backlights last as long as possible.
@Newsons Electronics I have the same model and can still see an very dim image if I look so close and the sound still work. Could that mean the LED lights too? Where are you located?

@@hoth9whitey I was able to speak to a technician but he advised to just buy a brand new one. He quoted the repair over $500 if he will diagnose and repair which makes no sense but to just buy a new.

no it detects the volts and current must match
@@NewsonsElectronics how big of a variance is allowed? I tried solder a new LED. Failed. ordered a new power supply board as this one is only putting out .08Vdc. New board installed but still not working. Removed LED and soldered direct bypassing LED. Still no go. Ordered a new LED back light strip kit, waiting on shipping. Learning a lot from your video and been having fun with this repair. Thanks for your time!
@@kalynkoster6715 use led tester to test your leds you don't need to replace them all this will determine if its your powersupply or backlights.
@@NewsonsElectronics I bought everything in your video. Tested every strip and every light like you showed. It’s one strip that’s being a pain. The LED on both ends works correctly but the 3 in the middle are messed up. I will see what happens when I replace the strip. Your video is very informative! I e watched it over a dozen times.
Ok replaced LED strip that had bad LED, still sound and no picture. When I hold a light up to the screen I can see it’s working but no back light. Replaced power supply board and still same issue. Any ideas
what is the solder paste you use to put it back ?
