This sounds like a closer version of what I would have expected to hear from Liszt himself. I also think that he would have played it differently at times when he was feeling happier one day versus on the day he felt sad. The tempo changes and longer pause give this piece meaning. This is a rhapsody and it meant to be played as so... one needs to feels like it is a dozen melodies all rapped into one unison which is almost impossible. This piece of Liszt never leaves me satisfied nor empty or unsatisfied. I would love to hear other version when you feel different emotions... maybe think wedding scenarios, funeral of a special one or even great sex. This is the essence of this piece. It is an adventure, not a destination. Brilliantly played, I like the personal touches, it almost sounds like small mistakes but with headphones you realize that it is complete but different. Thanks for sharing, as in sharing you put yourself open for praise just as much as criticism and even insults. This s what is in your heart and I thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much. I can't stop crying (and shaking because of 9 days no.sleep). This is how I feel and experience the HR 2 undeed. It is purely from the heart not like my Chopin Nocturne where Chopin told me in a vision how I should play it. I know that I probably never will be able to play a concert and up for a lifetime psychiatry where I already was resident for a.few years. I do not have any affinity with this world were.people are so selfish, egocentric and verbally agressive with their "opinions". I am getting rid of FB, normal.smartphones,... I want essence: love. If you want we can contact via email. My cd will be quite something. Feel free to send an email to lisztfreak@gmail.com
I remain listening and keep reminded of how virtuosity sounds by a master gifted pianist. A true enjoyment of listening in eager at admiration each time again!
I love this so much! The whole recording is amazing, but the cadenza is definitely the icing on the cake. Your cadenza is a really convincing piece of music on its own, a beautiful commentary on HR2 with amazingly organic references to Liszt's other masterworks. (You specified the Sonata and the Mephisto Waltz No.1 - but I think you managed to capture other aspects of the Lisztian idiom as well.) Thank you for bringing this performance of yours to my attention. I also like your approach to pedalling - quite a few passages receive a completely different lighting this way. Thank you for your music, Sir! Keep on playing, please! And consider playing more Liszt, I believe his works are especially suited to individual interpretation.
Hello there. I've been practicing Mephisto Walzer 1 and will record it after the Schubert. My nickname used to be Mephisto. My interpretation is completely different than all others. Only sad thing is that I can't thrill with left (have to take MRIs... scary because feeling left side body is less than right). Anyway technical not perfect or not.. I will record it.
Thanks for listening! It is not easy to get people to listen to my recordings because UA-cam is a visual medium. Feel free to explore my other recordings.
that cadenza very cool indeed :) discovered cyprien katsaris lately (through the epic video where he performs cziffra's bumble bee version before him) and how he attempted to inform (alarm) the world about most of the pianists of today not being able to improvise anymore ... I agree it to be a vital skill for anyone attempting to attain upper echelons of music. you're helping reviving it. keep posting your progress. you should have many more listeners (and I believe also viewing is important, really love your birthday rendition ...). best regards 🕊️
thanks so much for this compliment! I hope I had exeryting correct from Google translate. My morning was ruined by someone who found this performance "utterly tasteless wretched excess". @inraid
J'arrive régulièrement sur vos interprétations et vos improvisations avec un oeil (une oreille) critique, et j'en sors chaque fois médusé; j'aurais regretté de passer à coté d'un musicien de cette qualité; je pense que je suis pas le seul à le penser...
@inraid Is a reply like this really necessary? Does it help to cope with your frustrations or are you truly convinced by this? Well, I think I already know the answer.

Bravo!!!👏 What a cadenza!! So many elements; Liszt Sonata polyphony, Mephisto Waltz, hints of Mazeppa and Gnomenreigen. Genius, love it😀

So different, passionate, extraordinary version! My favorite version is Hamelin but thisone comes second.
Wow thank you!! But... I would sell a kidney, half of my brain and maybe "slightly plausible" do sports to have Hamelin his technique!!
Sensazionale, sono senza parole!
Beautiful, Michiel. Thank you.❤️
