My hair is very dry. It is naturally high porosity and ultra-fine due to genetics. I've also become allergic to most raw oils and butters. My trichologists gave me a recommended regimen: 1. shampoo weekly. 2. Deep condition weekly with a plastic cap and a hot towel for 20 minutes. 3. apply leave in lotion-like( more watery) detangler and leave-in cream conditioner and put under a plastic cap and hot towel for 20 minutes daily. This stopped all dryness on my hair and scalp.
I don't know if that would work because your high porosity and all you are doing is lifting up the cutiles because you are "using" heat for the product to Penetrate. Since i'm low porosity, i prefere you look videos specially for high porosity. Also i heard that a lot of high porosity use apple cider vinegar to prevent the hydration to evaporate faster. But yeah check some videos

Once I started steaming in my DC, it's changed the game. I am a believer in a clarifying shampoo every wash day. You can't cram all these products on your hair without taking them off. So I do a clarifying shampoo and a then a moisturizing shampoo, and then a rinse out conditioner in the shower. I get out and deep condition with my homemade deep conditioner and steam it in. I only use my dryer when doing a protein treatment (using my deep conditioner and added hydrolyzed keratin and wheat protein drops I bought from Amazon). I do rinse with cold water, because I don't do everything in one day. I physically can't because of my disability so I just add a creamy leave-in and leave my hair towel on until the next morning and then I steam it again while applying my products. I go from wash to wash and only remoisturize my hairline because I wash out the edge control as I wash my face each night. Once I really learned what my hair likes it's been pretty easy to keep it healthy. I haven't needed a trim in about 15 months (and that's my licensed cosmetologist telling me after straightening my hair and doing a good examination throughout my whole head every 3 months) so it's allowed me to retain all my length. I do green tea rinses so my hair barely sheds anymore and that's keeping it thicker and longer as well. But I couldn't do any of that without hydrating my hair well as my foundation.
Hello my sister, yes what you say makes sense. I grew up poor. My mom couldn't deal with my long kinky hair so after shampoo and conditioner the next day she would wet my hair sloppy wet then add hair grease just to get through my hair. She would style my hair while wet. Lol i used to cry when it was hair day. It always took two days. Im back on that regiment because it works. Yes yes!! All I have to say is thank you for this valuable info. Finally an answer to dry hair with easy steps to follow. God bless you sis. Thank you!💐❤️🔥
Massage your scalp and bring out your natural oils. I glide my sebum down my hair shaft, which makes it feel like silk. I shampoo only when needed. I can mix some Sidr natural shampoo more like cleaner with my henna gloss mixture to avoid harsh shampoo that strips natural oils. If i shampoo i oil and put a conditioner on it before shampooing. So, the natural oils don't get stripped out. I do the hair mask after the shampooing and dont use leavin in a conditioner, which is probably making it dry the next day. Without the leave in my hair, it stays moist. Everyone has to figure out what works for you.
Cold water is for high porosity hair. I did that before and it didn’t work for me and if I put oil on my hair before I put leave in conditioner, it will just sit on my hair and dry it out. Thank sis
I love how informative your videos are❤.Thank you. You mentioned that you use vinegar to close the cuticles, can I use aloe Vera juice to close cuticles?
Hello. I have a similar hair texture to yours and I wanted to know if you used vegetable glycerin during the winter months? Love your content and thank you!
Best informational video ever. Even better than the cosmetic chemist channel. So many products and hair stylists out ther are'nt differentiating these words, moisture & hydration, properly. You never know what your getting. Im just realizing the importance of treating hair properly. Growing up by tge oceon in Calif. my hair stayed hydrated & moist. Now that I moved to the desert, my hair has PTSD, its as dry as the desert. Isnt it bad to continuously open and close the cuticle every wash?? Your video was a little confusing at the end. Im going vack to review it. Thanks!
i think i have the hydrating aspect down but what moisturizers do you prefer for locs for people with low porosity hair that will not add to build up? any simplistic water based humectants or light oils to consider? rose water?
When you take a douche you can put your braided head or whatever hairdress you have under the douche and let the water go trough your hair to hydrate it. I do that when it is raining hard in Suriname. I then take a bad in the rain and my hair too. It feels amazing
@@CoilyDiaries I think they mean shower instead of douche. They speak Dutch in Suriname. We don't go outside in the rain in cold countries with our head uncovered..unless we want to catch pneumonia. Suriname is a tropical country. it's hot all year round with high humidity. I was raised in the Caribbean so my hair stayed moisturised there longer. It's hot and humid. heat and moisture.
@@marleyhill34I'm Caribbean too, but I was very confused by the word douche. Thanks for explaining as douche means something completely different to me. 😂
@@MsVakong although I was raised in the English speaking Caribbean, I learned French and Spanish at school there. I've to Italy, France and Spain. Douche in French and Dutch means shower in English. These are the romance languages along with Portuguese where the root is Roman Latin. English has borrowed a lot of words the the French. I studied international relations as a degree so i understand the cultural differences.
I understood what she meant as well but it pretty funny as douche for some English speakers can mean a feminine hygiene wash and it seems applicable to some extent as they may be hair in both places. 😅😂😂
Steam it, that should serve both processes. I'm doing mine with a henna gloss tomorrow. That's henna mixed with a hair mask and steamed. It will stay moist and soft for a few weeks. Without it, some creams every two days.
Hello, I wet my thick 4C hair in the shower daily so I can comb it through. I apply leave in then my oil. Is this a combo for disaster? My hair has always been dry. I’ve been natural since 2021. Still learning. Thank you.
Hi coily diaries how do you make the apple cider vinegar spritz you use after the castor oil? By the way I have learnt a ton from you and your channel, many thanks to you!!!
Thanks for tips I absolutely cannot and will not rinse with cold water, per my hair 😂😂😂😂😂 I do wash every 7 thru 10 days, makes it easy to handle my long tight tight tight coils / curls / etc ….❤😂🎉😂
Lol! I just stick my head under the shower hose....while my entire body is fully covered and warm. I have a sensitive scalp so my scalp actually finds it calming after all that wash day manipulation.
Thank you for this amazing information. I’m gathering info for my girls hair (7 years old). She has dry hair. I recently trimmed her hair but gave her a cut instead. 😢. Her hair seems to be low porosity and is always dry. From what I gather from your video, I need to shampoo (which open the cuticles), deep conditioner under the dryer ( the heat will hydrate the hair), rinse with what kind of water please ? Add leave in conditioner, (back under the dryer) after Spray with apple cider vinegar to close off cuticles and seal with castor oil) is that the order please ?
hi Sis. the video gives you the order. ACV is the final thing you do. most shampoos already have a higher PH to open the cuticle. hydration is water. in order to get it in use a shampoo or heat. they both open the cuticle. please see my moisturising routine for details🌺
Please talk about how to cover hair when we have to leave hair products on your hair and go to school or anywhere, to avoid letting out the gross smell
Very interesting! Great video!!! I have never separated moisture and hydration. Question… I don’t rinse my hair with cool water nor have I tried Apple cider vinegar rinse. I assume that my cooler leave-ins will close the cuticle. Just leaving to the cooler air will close the cuticles? Your thoughts?
this is correct. the only thing about products is that if it’s Sumer for example they could warm up and the cuticle raise especially if you go outside. PH is good for added help to keep the cuticle shut.🌺
This explains why a lady said to me, "water, warm water is natural hair's best friend. People try to say it dries out your hair but they're wrong. Use it combined with a moisturizer. And watch it grow." After listening to that suggestion, my hair started being more easy to manage and retain length.
Agreed! My hair loves loves loves being Hydrated! For me it’s also a self-esteem boost. One time after taking down braids, I noticed that I felt amazing and so refreshed after giving myself a great wash, a slick back bun with damp roots! Just as We get thirsty, our hair needs water too! We need to shy away from some of these long standing terms like “don’t get your hair wet”. (Of course not if you just had your hair straightened lol) but ideally our hair needs water on a frequent basis. Even if you can spritz it (depending on the style you have) 😊
Moisture =surface
Hydration =deeper

If you have low porosity hair as I do my cuticles close naturally on its own. I really don't have to force my cuticles to close with cider vinegar that's for sure. Hair maintenance with high porosity hair versus low is different.
Good for you! No need to change anything if you have figured out what your hair likes
I use a hair humidifier and I make a liquid hair spray with plants that open the follicle stimulate the follicle bring circulation to the scalp. I use herbs that hydrate condition and clean the scalp.
please share what plants close the cuticle and cleanse the scalp?
@@CoilyDiaries alovera plant Aloe Vera gel will help in maintaining the pH balance of the hair. It also help in opening up the blocked pores of the scalp and boost the growth of hair follicles. Shikaka Shikakai is a natural astringent that strengthens the hair roots, promotes hair growth, and the plant's saponins gently cleanse dirt and grime from the scalp . There are many herbs that benefit our hair and you don’t have to use these man made shampoos. There are pants that can be ground in to a powder and mixed with alovera gel or flaxseed gel and made into conditioner or simply make a paste of the plant once in powder. Ahhhh, Thank you! 💖You have clarified why people are raving about how steaming has benefited their hair. 👍
You’re welcome 😊
I do both because I have low porosity hair. I use warm water on my hair everyday. I don’t soak it I just wet it and then I moisturize it.
interesting
This is THE MOST helpful hair video I’ve ever seen. Thank you for sharing!
You are so welcome! time to get soft hair🌺
Thank you for the video... this makes alot of sense. Alot of times my hair does be dry no matter how much I moisturize.
I am now hydrating with aloe leave in and ofcource with some water. I tried glycerin my last wash day to me my hair felt hard afterwards. I didn't use protein so maybe that played a role.
Now I am using strengthener from Taliah Waajid to moisturize my hair. This works for me also Camille rose moisture milk.
I will try pH also...green Beauty talks alot about ph level. Thats why after wash day my hair looks better..😅
is it humid were you are? how much glycerin did you use? did you use a leave and castor oil?
@@CoilyDiaries yes I live in the Caribbean it is very humid. I added 1 tbsp together with with aloe vera leave in and castor oil. I did what you said but the products were different. My sister left a leave in conditioner and I used it as well..
Love this video. I started doing most of what you talked about last year after my recent hair fall and it’s been a game changer 💕. Love how you broke it all down for the people. You’re the best! x
hey love 🥰 thank you!! it’s exactly what you said, game changer!
Growing up we warmed up all our products before we used them. ALoe vera and peppermint and acv scalp detox monthly will keep the scalp clear so it is easier to hydrate. Ms lady you are beautiful. You should get your skin foundation custom made or get dermablend or bare essential.
Thanks for sharing!! thanks for the skin recommendations 🌺
You have a wonderfully refreshing approach.😊
Glad you think so!
I use alkaline water put it in a spray bottle and spray my hair every other day after moisturizing my strands and my hair stays very hydrated

Everyone has to figure out what works for you.
great tips!!!
Your videos are always knowledge filled. Kudos 🎉!

Very valuable information my sis! Thank you!! 😊

Cold water is for high porosity hair. I did that before and it didn’t work for me and if I put oil on my hair before I put leave in conditioner, it will just sit on my hair and dry it out. Thank sis
understand why you would say that🌺

You mentioned that you use vinegar to close the cuticles, can I use aloe Vera juice to close cuticles?
Yes, absolutely
Right. Plain water lifts the cuticle.

Thanks!
if washing too often yes it could be damaging. what wasn’t clear at the end? happy to clarify 🪻
i think i have the hydrating aspect down but what moisturizers do you prefer for locs for people with low porosity hair that will not add to build up? any simplistic water based humectants or light oils to consider? rose water?
@@crprotonme locs? Sorry I don’t know much about the care of locs
Thanks soooo much ma for this information
You are welcome
Will apply this to my hair journey. Were you using a hairdryer in the video?
to put in the hooded dryer attachment yes
When you take a douche you can put your braided head or whatever hairdress you have under the douche and let the water go trough your hair to hydrate it. I do that when it is raining hard in Suriname. I then take a bad in the rain and my hair too. It feels amazing
not sure I understand this comment 🤔
It was very helpful
great to hear
Steam it, that should serve both processes. I'm doing mine with a henna gloss tomorrow. That's henna mixed with a hair mask and steamed. It will stay moist and soft for a few weeks. Without it, some creams every two days.
again, great tips 🌺
Hello, I wet my thick 4C hair in the shower daily so I can comb it through. I apply leave in then my oil. Is this a combo for disaster? My hair has always been dry. I’ve been natural since 2021. Still learning.
Thank you.
wetting and combing your hair daily isint what I’d recommend if length is a goal of yours🌺
Thank you South Africa ❤

I don't why, but i love the way you say it
🥰🥰🥰😅
Hi coily diaries how do you make the apple cider vinegar spritz you use after the castor oil? By the way I have learnt a ton from you and your channel, many thanks to you!!!
aim for a PH of 4-4.5 for This is usually 1 tsp ACV to 240mls distilled water ❤️
@@CoilyDiaries thank you!
Hydration only happens in wash hour and it is sealed with conditioner 👌
ok…
Thank you for nice video ❤
🌺🌺🌺
You are saying putting products in then steam then more products? I got really soft and hydrated hair without the last step.
if your hair is thriving no need to take on anything I say but if you can make beneficial improvements then go for it 🌺
Thanks for tips
I absolutely cannot and will not rinse with cold water, per my hair 😂😂😂😂😂
I do wash every 7 thru 10 days, makes it easy to handle my long tight tight tight coils / curls / etc ….❤😂🎉😂
totally understand it😅
@@CoilyDiaries thank you for your reply. This weekend is wash day. I’ll def. Try this method

Does this apply to thin low porosity hair ?
Absolutely!
Hello Coliy have you ever looked at the effects is hard water on hydrating the hair ?
I have recently done a video on this. look around 🤗
got to have a very good filter or a chelating shampoo to get that hard water build up off the hair.
Thanks for the information but how about high porosity hair. It's winter now and my hair is bone dry no matter what I try to do. Thanks and God bless
This applies to all hair . Video on sealing the cuticle coming soon 🌺
What products/shampoo do you ladies recommend?
see discretion 🌺
@@CoilyDiariesthank you!$
1. Can i use a high alkaline water to hydrate my hair? 2. Doesn't plain water have chlorine & floride in it?
Use pure distilled water
When you say Humetec rich water are you referring to distilled water?
@@Black06ification distilled or pure water with a humectant added in it( glycerin is my recommended)
Ohhh ok got it! Tks
Please talk about how to cover hair when we have to leave hair products on your hair and go to school or anywhere, to avoid letting out the gross smell
do you mean like deep conditioning or moisturising? I would just pop a plastic cap and head wrap on
Very interesting!
And watch it grow." After listening to that suggestion, my hair started being more easy to manage and retain length.
love warm water!
Even if you can spritz it (depending on the style you have) 😊
Great video. Please can you tell how we can know a shampoo with a high ph ?
test the PH with PH strips. chelating shampoos have the highest
