This is beautiful. At the end it becomes really evident that there is a force larger then the artists on stage at work. Its wild how the energy of the crowd and the spirit that was working thru the musicians jelled in such an edifying and lovely way... Bless Mr Garcia's heart and thank god that open hearts are still felt. Support real music!!! The spirits need people to dance with :)
I was at these shows in Phila! My friends and I never missed an opportunity to see the Grateful Dead when they were in town! It was always a memorable experience to hear the best jam band the world has every heard!
Ah yes I remember this show very much I was there That was a great tour I loved all the east coast tours they did spring, summer, fall in places like Philly,Hampton,Richmond,Merriweather Post Pavilion etc...................good times had by all
.one of the brothers commented that he feels the music of the dead in his soul. i can empathize.with that. jerry and the boys injected their magic into my heart way back in 89 and i hold onto that with all my heart and soul. papa bear is my heart and illlove him and his legacy all my days.its just such an emotional ride.i shure do miss the shows
Wow man... nice audience tape. Fees like I'm there. No band could ever even think about pulling off a Morning Dew. This is the Grateful Dead, and the Deadheads, and I miss them with all my heart. I love you all!!
Holy sh*t........ concise, intense, and brilliant. Incredible, and the crowd knows it. I was living near Philly at the time but missed this, must have gone to another night of the run. But here it is now. :-)
@gregoryjamesaustin I was at that show and it meant a lot to me. I was going through a nasty divorce at the time and the ex wouldn't let me see my kids. I eventually wound up with custody of them but for two years Jerry and the boys got me through the toughest time in my life. That Dew squeezed tears from my eyes that night. Thank you Uncle Jerry. I miss you so much.
I remember this as one of the last great shows of '86 before Jerry decended into that awful summer haze... Who knew what lay ahead in '87 - '90 ? I miss you every day, Jerry...
This one tugs at the heart~it makes me want them back so badly. I get 'prickles' when i remember hearing the news that jerry died. Well...i usually don't dig those RIP comments~because i know he is...but i sure do miss him.
This is the first song I heard by the Dead. A friend's tape from a show sometime in 83?...Countless shows and now years after Jerry's death, it moves me even more. Can we capture the spirit again?
Was lucky enough to be in the taper's pit for this one. The Dew was the first tune out of space, and it ended the show! Don't think that ever happened before or after that show. They had blown a whole in the fabric of the night and it was time to just put down the instruments. They did a quick Midnight hour afterwards for an encore and everybody went home blown away. Love how Jerry works the feedback into that first solo. What a shred!
I was there - I took one of my best show bros for his first show - we have talked to each other every day on our anniversary - It was quite a bromance -
You used to be able to hear a pin drop in the venue at the beginning of the ending crescendo when they played this. I remember seeing this at Giant's Stadium once and you could hear a whisper among 70,000 people. Tremendous experience.
One hit wonder.... That's what I heard a DJ say about this band... A touch of gray? A lot of kids today have no idea of an album cover or the other 9 songs on the album. To really listen to the music. Wow did I get old. I just remember getting together with friends, turning the lights down and the music up and just listening to an entire album.
Can't help but tear up every time I hear this most beautiful song.... The World was a much better place with Jerry on it........................... Nothing against Bobby, Phil, Mickey, Bill, Brent , Keith, Pigpen, ... Captain O' Captain.
@XxMke1127Xx Mike. You bet it was the best of all. I have seen over 200 shows and that show was amazing! Garcia literally squeezed tears from my eyes.....again
I wish you could edit UA-cam - forgot to mention... Love the "Thank you" at about 0:27, a great memory of a moment that happened at so many Dead shows (no to mention the various yahooos.) Thank you!!
I love Morning Dew and it's great to hear an enthusiastic audience and i appreciate it being shared but regret to say that this recording does not have enough base for me. Though it's a jerry song, phil needs to be heard.......no monster base comes through on my headphones and that means it does not reflect the true sound that is essential to this song .....saw my first spectrum show in spring 1977.....dead dominated that facilty....
excellent!! was at this show -- oddly was also right around this angle -- this Dew closed a SHORT set with (a High Time) and we are all wtf? Jerome and Brent were on fire plainly - then they came out with a mid tempo Midnight Hour encore so- so // best 80's Dew -- Hampton Roads 4-14-84 that one will really steal your face!!
@womenrsmarter420 I was at those shows. Saw a beautifull rainbow walking in. Jumped for joy then nearly broke my ankle when I landed. Will never forget it. I danced the whole time with a screwed up ankle. There will never be another Jerry. Maybe we'll see him again in Heaven
+Jake Tunney the way i can tell great dead songs: i'll put on a show, do my thing, work, zone out, etc. then all of a sudden, something nails me in my subconscious. well you guys were right- this song definitely did that to me, right at the end before jerry explodes...
My favourite version of 'Morning Dew' is by the German industrial band Einsturzende Neubauten. I starts out gently, almost beautifully, and then becomes progressively more and more disturbing. By the end of it, the last place you want to go is walking out in the morning dew.
@dosed1dosed1000 I am really sorry for your loss. I lost my brother, who was with me at all the Vegas shows. The song He's Gone makes me cry. take care:)
@dosed1dosed1000 rest easy cassidy. Back in 02 I buried a wife and daughter of 22 months and had a buddy do a good acoustic "Brokedown Palace" but I want "dew" played at mine. Its tough and we dont always understand at the time, but there will come a point when you realize the only road to where you are is the one you took. With love and sincerity, Jason
1986 was not a great year for the grateful dead but this morning dew is pretty hot it brings back memories of being at this show. this was the only song after the drums.
morning dew was my favorite song after the drums ya know like a wheel>goin down the road>playin'in the band>morning dew>sugar magnolia encore uncle johns band >casey jones
@CaptainShays love the stories i was crackin up readin your post could picture it happening...your ankle must've been swollen for a week???grate stuff capt
@captainblewhard Fuk Yeaa. . . Thank You Jerry Givin Us All Had Till You Were Not Able Too . . Thank You & See You In Heaven Shakin Our Heads When We Make It To The Promised Land . . (~);}
@cklein121 He tripped many more times then once in the mid sixties, you are right though he didn't like drugs. the time you are referring to is the last time he did it. the one where someone in the bands crew slipped it to him. Jerry didn't slip it to him. Pigpen couldn't go onstage. Jerry was furious because Pig was not into it and was having a bad trip and no one would own up to it
This jut came via algorithm today. Epic, stunning. Morning dew has always been holy for me
I love 70's dead and miss the donna and keith years but bye far this is my favorite dew
Took my brother to this show ... his first. I remember looking over at him and watching him being amazed... I miss those days!!!
This is beautiful. At the end it becomes really evident that there is a force larger then the artists on stage at work. Its wild how the energy of the crowd and the spirit that was working thru the musicians jelled in such an edifying and lovely way...

I was at this one - it was one of my first Dead shows ever. Thank you so much for posting!
I really like this song alot.
I have seen over 200 shows and out of them numerous Morning Dews. Without a doubt this was THE finest of them all. Thank you for posting this.
Just found a Caboose show from 89--they truly loved the Dead as well. Their Morning Dew is astounding, as is this one.
I was at these shows in Phila! My friends and I never missed an opportunity to see the Grateful Dead when they were in town! It was always a memorable experience to hear the best jam band the world has every heard!
Beautiful! Thank you for posting this.
This song always sends shivers down my spine and tears to my eyes
After experiencing countless shows and dozens of morning dews i can say without hesitation that this version is the best of the best
I was at this show. This song still gives me goosebumps to this day.
Friendly greetings from Cork Ireland.
Ah yes I remember this show very much I was there That was a great tour
I loved all the east coast tours they did spring, summer, fall in places like Philly,Hampton,Richmond,Merriweather Post Pavilion etc...................good times had by all
great song thx Jerry for many years of music!
I was there and strangely I remember the whole show even under the influence of a 3 letter substance
85,86 brought out some of the best Dews ever
The old Philadelphia Spectrum. Thanks for taking me back to this show!

there's nothing like coming off of Space with an awesome Morning Dew!

sweet morning dew one of my favs

Was there, blew my mind...................
Love this song!
Jerry gives me goosebumps.
Best. Clip. Ever.
Ever.
Don't Argue.
Stop.
Best ever.
Air Jerry!
Spectacular Stellar Unadulterated Bliss The Grateful Dead
Can't help but tear up every time I hear this most beautiful song.... The World was a much better place with Jerry on it........................... Nothing against Bobby, Phil, Mickey, Bill, Brent , Keith, Pigpen, ... Captain O' Captain.
It is the rarest of occurences when you hear a crowd as loud as one at a Dead show. Seger in Detroit (only) comes to mind, and that's about it.
Very Nice!!!
Brilliant !!
@XxMke1127Xx Mike. You bet it was the best of all. I have seen over 200 shows and that show was amazing! Garcia literally squeezed tears from my eyes.....again
gee whiz, couldn't imagine seeing a spring 86 show....all wound up after a monster 1985...the boys were on a tear.
Jerry had the right voice for this great song. wow.
I wish you could edit UA-cam - forgot to mention...

Nobody will ever finish a song the way Garcia did , unreal!!
they were the best ever

This is probably the greatest version I´ve heard of this fabulous song. And I always assumed 80´s Dead was inferior to 60´s and 70´s Dead . . .
you are very right.
@womenrsmarter420 I was at those shows. Saw a beautifull rainbow walking in. Jumped for joy then nearly broke my ankle when I landed. Will never forget it. I danced the whole time with a screwed up ankle. There will never be another Jerry. Maybe we'll see him again in Heaven
magical.....
All that needs to be said is "Thank you"
New Potato Caboose did last night. First time I'd seen them in about 20 yrs. Sounded like 1986 again.
finaly someone who understands
haaa! so amazing. such a random date with this many views. must be good- now to watch :)
+Jake Tunney the way i can tell great dead songs: i'll put on a show, do my thing, work, zone out, etc. then all of a sudden, something nails me in my subconscious. well you guys were right- this song definitely did that to me, right at the end before jerry explodes...
This could be one of their earliest covers...Definitely one of their earliest non-blues covers
My favourite version of 'Morning Dew' is by the German industrial band Einsturzende Neubauten. I starts out gently, almost beautifully, and then becomes progressively more and more disturbing. By the end of it, the last place you want to go is walking out in the morning dew.
forever a dead head, there really is nothing like a deadshow, much missed.
thumbs up if the opening riff, just makes you happy :)
When we walked out of the Spectrum on this night we couldn't tell which one was Halley's Comet!!
every couple of weeks i find myself.........................just kidding i find myself listening to this paticular version..miss ya jerry
goose bumps :)
@dosed1dosed1000 I am really sorry for your loss. I lost my brother, who was with me at all the Vegas shows. The song He's Gone makes me cry. take care:)
A miracle

the epic morning dew
love
1986 was not a great year for the grateful dead but this morning dew is pretty hot it brings back memories of being at this show. this was the only song after the drums.
Truly a rip roaring ending...would have been a good one to be at....watch Bobby doing the windmill at the end. Good stuff....
EPIC.
wow my birthday and the year i was born
morning dew was my favorite song after the drums ya know like a wheel>goin down the road>playin'in the band>morning dew>sugar magnolia encore uncle johns band >casey jones

Jerry had the right, painful voice for this great song. wow. Gonna ck out the Jeff Beck version now.
@CaptainShays what makes it one of the finest?the emotion?
actually written by a Canadian Songwriter Bonnie Dobson after seeing "On the Beach"
Haha!! That was hilarious!!
If there ever was an anthem from the Cold War, this song would be it.
it was written by a Canadian singer/songwriter named Bonnie Dobson...
@cklein121 He tripped many more times then once in the mid sixties, you are right though he didn't like drugs. the time you are referring to is the last time he did it. the one where someone in the bands crew slipped it to him. Sure doesn't sound like he's almost dead. 🌹🌹
I miss the 80s
