This was my first Dead show! Changed my life in sooo many ways! Forever Grateful! As Bill Graham said, "They're not the best at what they do...they're the ONLY ones that do what they do!" (RIP Bill). No one will ever truly know what the Dead symbolize unless they see a show...
A couple things of note... The Box Of Rain is a monster. Just the second one since the bust out in Hampton a few days earlier. They nail it. During Half-Step, Bobby tells the crowd to "keep your clothes on out there". Bobby gives a short discourse on the nature of freedom during what would be the final Lost Sailor>Saint of Circumstance the boys ever played. Space into Dew is wonderful. The Morning Dew, well, it's rather difficult to put the sheer awesomeness of it into words. All I know is, for me, it was nothing short of a life changing experience. I immediately realized I had to see them do something like that again and was officially on the bus for good.
@@brivathis was my 100th show. I was in my 2nd year of Law School! I dropped out after Jerry came out of his coma and I went on full-time tour for the next 9 years until the very last note in July ‘95.
I was there too and the box of rain was highlight of show. This video is great but didn’t do it justice to what it sounded like live. Spectrum exploded. One of greatest dead moments I have experienced. Spectrum was a great place. Old, dirty and run down but the dead never disappointed. They were always great.
I saw approx 20 -25 gd shows at the Rectum and maybe 60-70 other shows....yes dirty and brokedown just like the rest of Philly!1 But damn saw some shows at the Spectrum!!
Brent,RIP,is the greatest. Little Red Rooster, and many more.he really made the band when Jerry, Bobby, and Brent went to town..no one was better.ever!!
How I love these guys ! Wish they all were still around ! ❤️🐰🌹☠️💀☮️🥀👽🪐🛸👻💔It broke my heart to leave Jerry but nobody could get him clean but himself which he couldn’t do ! I had to leave , I was already a broken down palace ! China doll too !
May God bless those that did all the work that one day made it possible for this and other concerts to be seen. Also, thanks to the Office, Crew, Families and The Band!
Dynamite show absolutely dynamite!!! I was there with a few friends and I recall vividly discussing how incredible that show just was. Not often that they do it like that. 133 shows all told with a couple dozen JGB and Bobby & the Midnights to boot yet this one is up there in my top 5 all time. Man there was just something about Phily they loved to bring out a banger once in a while.
Thank you for the upload, voodoonola. It brings back fond memories. As far as "Morning Dew" goes (rating on mind-blowing-ness of placement combined with performance), this is my second favorite that I saw. My favorite was when they opened the second set with it at Giants Stadium (7/12/1987)
No place like the spectrum. It’s so much fun to watch this and especially with how you handled the remastering of the sound to the video. Btw, I was lucky to be there for the last show at the spectrum. I think it was with “The Dead”. When going to the spectrum we usually got a shakedown and the floor and building can mirror the vibe as it shakes with glee to the music. Great job Voo. Thank you 🙏
The morning after this show, me and my friend Al noticed a big crowd hanging around the Spectrum early that morning that wasn't deadheads...turns out it was people in line for Neil Diamond tickets. I kept asking people to tell me who they were in line for and finally some guy finally said Neil Diamond! and I was like okay, thanks for letting us know Ahh! the 80's!
Hampton was amazing as always and the boys picked up right where we left it. Box of Rain ! HighTime and MorningDew Midnight Hour. I thought here it comes for sure DarkStar encore, the air was perfect but alsas no encore at all. Still a smoking show fo sure
They didn’t care how they dressed as long as they could play music , that’s all that mattered for a long time into the 90 s ! They not to dress up in wardrobe or other bad looking garb that other bands used to make themselves attractive , they put on what was available to them at the time ! We did go shopping for them before because they ran out of underware !

Wat a shame.and pretty unbelievable considering going they rein for another decade almost
I dropped out of college and used the rest of my student loan to become a taper. This run was the first I taped. The Box indelibly stamped my soul.

2 absolute monster Dews
Phil and Jerry were feeling it together on that Dew.

One of the first Dead tapes I got handed to me. One of my favorite shows.
Truly was magical times back then. I got Mirracled twice
Love Bobby’s sense of humor acknowledging ‘someone’s’ missed beat going from Lost sailor into Saint of Circumstance... “Just like a Swiss watch”...LOL
No wonder we all Love Jerry’s long Riffs!
My friend's birthday second run in Philly 85 86 87 many great memories used to sit backstage one night of each run just for different perspective
The opener of Alabama Getaway always quickly came to mind as the best version i'm aware of
Roger that--Jerry's notes before they even kick in are fiendish.
Well hot damn! I had to stop everything during that Dew!
Killer!
Dig it deadly. I had to sit my old ass down !!!!
👍 great!! Must listening!!💀🌹⚡

And fun fact. Neil Diamonds drummer The great Ronnie Tutt also was the drummer for the Jerry Garcia band for a while.

Last Lost Sailor ever as Grateful Dead. Sad. But a sick show.
Sick tones. That's all
1:46:30 Morning Dew
The end of that Dew!...Jesus Christmas!!!
21:55 for one of the best brown eyed womens ever played, and 1:46:18 for WITHOUT A DOUBT the BEST Dew ever.

Hampton was amazing as always and the boys picked up right where we left it. Box of Rain !
HighTime and MorningDew Midnight Hour. I thought here it comes for sure DarkStar encore, the air was perfect but alsas no encore at all. Still a smoking show fo sure
I like Esau, only Weir would have a tune like that
