Oh my GOD!!! I was working for abt. 20 years in China and got to know a lot of funny things. F.e. greeting at the telephone when people pick up: "Weeeiiiiiiii?" My wife is called Wei and when I want to kid her: "Weeeeiiiiiiii??" And now your lovely Mom: "Have you eaten already?" How many times I heard this especially from the older folks. This is coming from Chinese history where food was rare. And I also love this "5 minutes " of ending a phone call, ending with "ha ha, ha!" (not laughing) Cheche, Lisa. That's worth an award for entertaining us with your "Mom". Absolutely great. Yan Shi
I am enjoying your channel so much. You do a very good job talking to yourself. I grew up in England and Scotland. It was so nice back in the day. Thank You for making me smile.
This was fun. I am learning mandarin and I could actually follow a few things you said. I'm very happy. I love how mum takes so long to sign off from a phone call after she says she's going 😂😂😂😂. Merry Christmas lisa
@GobbyLisa99 that's awesome. I guess I understood the flow and took cues from your context and expression. Thank you for your encouragement. May I ask what the dialect was? Cantonese? Northern?
Oh! It's interesting that it was not Mandarin. I was confused about why some words you were saying did not have intonation because I thought you were speaking Mandarin.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Thats exactly like my wife when she talks to her her mother or sister, they know she is safe here but still ask is it safe! And the saying good bye is spot on, normally my wife gets inpatient and just hang up on her mother because she keep talking!
Yay! I studied mandarin some years ago and it's nice that I recognised a bunch of the words you used 🎉 It's fun telling your parents about new stuff isn't it? I used to tell my grandma about AI girlfriends, just to see how she'd react 😅
Lisa, you missed one thing; my mother-in-law will always tell me to stop drinking ice water, she tells my wife to make me drink hot water only. (You missed that part of the conversation.)
I started getting interested in learning Chinese and then found out about all the different dialects and the fact that even they can't all understand each other, I wish we could come together and chose a language to call the 'Human language' and then it would be worth us all learning it as our second language if it isn't the one we already speak.
Merry Christmas Lisa. We take it for granted when you talk in English on your channel it's easy to forget that you can speak Chinese.👍 My spelling was always bad and I am English
Thank you.Merry Christmas. This is a local dialect. I also can't understand many local dialects in other cities. Your spelling is definitely better than mine.😂 I didn't even pass the A2 spelling test
This is absolutlely hilarious and brilliant. Reading the comments I do believe some people think they are actually seeing your Mother in this video! 🤣 Anyway - it should be an award to you as an actress. Next stop, Hollywood!
Its lovely to get your mum in the video. I'd read that the PRC banned all mentions of LGBTQIA+ in media back in 2018 which perhaps doesn't help. Granted I remember when it was still less acceptable in the UK, not the worst of it but from 1987-2003 where I lived a teacher who mentioned gay people existed could be arrested for "promoting homosexuality" and I wasn't in favour of going beyond civil partnerships at the time (I didn't like who I was which didn't help and studying law helped me see why same-sex marriage is a good and needed part of a democratic society) but still things will hopefully get more accepting as time goes on.
There are many homosexuals in China, but they hide their sexual orientation. Due to family and social pressure, they will eventually marry the opposite sex. So I think same-sex marriage is a good thing. Everyone has the right to love
@@GobbyLisa99 Definitely agree, after all love is a good thing and it probably hurts marriage more to force people who don't love each other into it because its expected of them.
I was working in Tiantjin back in 2009, and the waitress at our local bar was very impressed when we told her, that in Denmark nobody would pay any attention to two girls getting married or living together.😋 Or two guys for that matter. 🤷♂️
Is your mum from a very traditional rural village and not educated? Many were quite educated and aware of world affairs. I know a lot of older Chinese people from China and none sounded like that beside the few grandmas who were more confused but not judgmental.
lol, your mum eh hahah, you should of told people, its not your mum silly, its me acting like my mum... btw, lots more gray hairs i see, time for the coloring again..😀
She doesn't want to come, even if it's only a few minutes to the city center, she doesn't want to go, and the food she eats every day is not available here in the UK, and the elderly have many eating habits that cannot be changed
I can understand quite a bit of Mandarin, but I totally don't understand any of these Chinese words in this dialect. My wife speaks the Changsha dialect, It is a very sexy sounding dialect I think, but I also don't understand it. I always try to get her to speak in it just to hear it, though. 🥵
It's a good question. Usually, parents call their children by their names, but sometimes they say "my daughter" or "my son". For example, if the son-in-law gives a gift that the mother-in-law or father-in-law likes, they will happily say to their faces, "my good son-in-law". Although I am Chinese, it suddenly feels very complicated to explain, because there is no rule for this, it may be due to cultural reasons.
Yes. For Chinese whatever in China or in West countries. We all called Westerners Lao wai . It’s means foreigners, even we are foreigners in West countries. But it’s not negative

@GobbyLisa99 why do chinese women always shout like they are trying to reach China without a phone?

Having the subtitles made it possible to tell which words I really didn't know and which ones were just pronounced differently in the dialect.
Wow. 👍

很好的电话 😄❤️🔥
I love you 😂
one thing I noticed about the Chinese over here in the UK is that that love snitching to the gov or cops on other people
I also watched this kind of news. They are Chinese students who have not yet started working and do not understand the real society.
I agree with your mom on some stuff. She has common sense.
I think you should take your Mum on a holiday to were you live.

Haha. My husband also likes I speak dialect.
What is "medicline" 😂
Funny video but sounds about right between my wife and her Chinese mother, but not the same dialect though.
Thank you. There are many local dialects in China. I don't understand either
Don't you use Names ?

Do you know any Chinese women that want to come to Canada to get married to a Canadian?I’m single, Is there a dating website?
Sorry, I don't know any dating website.
I do but she would have to divorce me first!
I guess that searching for "Chinese dating" or "Chinese singles" should give the needed effect.
Does your mum really say "foreign husband"? We're all foreigners somewhere in the world 🙂. Maybe she can visit the UK and also be a foreigner. 🙂

I only know a little Mandarin but I knew that you weren't speaking Mandarin because I wasn't hearing enough sh and ch like sounds.
Chinese, to me, sounds very hard to learn. The same sounds seem to mean different words.
This is not Mandarin, this is a local dialect. I also don’t understand many local dialects.
@@GobbyLisa99 I see. Thanks.
Have a great Yule Tide Lisa and husband
Thank you
Just believe Bible teaching.
She’s not Christian. She can't even use smart phone
