Right before Guns N Roses hit it really big, I met some of the LA Guns and Faster Pussycat guys at a Billy Idol/The Cult concert. They gave my friend and I a ride into town to The Cathouse, a club they'd invested in along with Riki Rachtman. since our friends had ditched us at the Forum..not a great neighborhood. We didn't even know they were "anybody" til a limo pulled up and people started taking photos of them. A couple of the guys were nice and told us to come see them play. We went straight to the record store to check out their stuff, but the staff kept saying they only had Guns N Roses (who?!! haha), which we'd never heard of and totally ignored, lol. It may have been literally right before they broke huge on MTV. Later we started seeing the GnR guys in the clubs around town...those were fun days in LA. :-)

“November Rain” is based on the short story “Without You”, written by Del James and published in his book “The Language of Fear” a few years later. The story is basically about a rock star, grieving over the death of his girlfriend, who had committed suicide.
Guns and Roses was originally Axl Rose and Traci Guns was the guitarist. That is where Guns and Roses came from. Traci Guns formed L.A. Guns after they split.
Now that you have watched November Rain, you really need to watch Don't Cry and Estranged. They are actually a 3-part video storyline, so you kind of need to watch all 3 videos. Plus they are all 3 amazing songs. Estranged is my favorite song by them. After you watch all 3, you can read up on the significance of the trilogy, or probably just rely on the Half and Jai family to explain. Half was wrong on the formation of the name...but he was also, SPOT ON on the meaning in hind sight.

If you listen to their track called "breakdown" you will hear Axle in one of the lyrics in the song say the words "It's funny how everything was roses when we held on to the guns. Now that you have watched November Rain, you really need to watch Don't Cry and Estranged. They are actually a 3-part video storyline, so you kind of need to watch all 3 videos. Plus they are all 3 amazing songs. Estranged is my favorite song by them. After you watch all 3, you can read up on the significance of the trilogy, or probably just rely on the Half and Jai family to explain. Half was wrong on the formation of the name...but he was also, SPOT ON on the meaning in hind sight.

It's actually way off. The guns part is because some member of the LA Guns band joined Axel Rose. Together they made Guns and Roses.

Roses came from the lead singer, Axle Rose. Guns came from the lead Guitarist Slash, who showed up carrying 2 pistols for his audition for the group.

The names came from when Axl was in L.A. GUNS and Hollywood ROSE...two bands before GnR was formed.
They have another song called “Breakdown,” where one of the lines is, “Everything was roses when we held on to the guns.” So they would probably agree with your interpretation, even though it also came from the names of two bands.
