Nice overview. Thanks for not bogging this video down with a bunch of fluff and excessive details. It was just right!

So glad Apple have bought back Chord Track into Logic Pro. I've been using it for years in Cubase Pro and it's great that we now have it plus session players in Logic. Love the new features in Logic Pro 11

Since you requested feedback on how viewers enter chords in the chord track ... I am primarily a (by ear) guitar player, for identifying complex chords that I can play but don't know precisely what they are, I use my Roland GR-55 guitar synthesizer to identify the midi chords being played and enter them into the chord track. Thank you for your practical videos.

I had a crack at making a demo today of the Velvet Underground’s Sunday Morning. It certainly made it easy to get a basic backing started. I did a chord track then added a Drummer, Bass player and Piano player. After that I played acoustic guitar and added a vocal…..and it sounds fine. I’ll tweak it all a bit more but I’m impressed at how quickly you can get a track going. It is important to use the arrangement too….Intro, verse, chorus, bridge and outro etc. It makes a big difference to what the players play.

Sick! I’ve been trying to get into using this to not only make more interesting composition but just to teach myself more about theory. Only learning rhythm/drums growing up and starting to make music on my own quickly made me realize I’m an old dog not trying to learn new tricks 😂😂 this feature helps a ton to be able to write out chords and drag the midi around!

It's a great addition and I am enjoying it. My only difficulty thus far is when there is a break and you just want the bass or keyboard to sustain a single chord or note on the 1 of the break. Other than that, it's been awesome. I also wish that you could create a manual hit hat pattern in drummer like you can with kick and snare. Thanks for the video. Now, if Apple will add a B3 to keyboard and shuffles/blues/jazz styles.

Awesome, I was just checking out this feature and you mind-read all of my questions! omg I was trying to copy&paste chords using actual copy&paste and that was such strange behaviour, but you addressed even that! Option, click and drag ftw!

For guitarists use midi Guitar 3 beta. You can input guitar chords playing your guitar and the chords will be converted to midi.

First half of this video was terrific but then the second half was way beyond my pay grade. Do you have any videos where you explain things more for a beginner. ?

What I can't understand is why the Chord Track input defaults to 8 bars every time. Can one change it to default to 1 or 2 bars or some other length of the user's choosing???

Greetings Chris and again thanks for this!
I followed carefully, and I second the comment on the chord track being buggy. Created chords pop up 2 bars to the right. Grouping chords does not work. I’ve already developed workarounds for these issues. More importantly, is it possible to create a chord chart, that is a lead sheet, from the chords in the chord track?
    Regards,
    William

Say what ya want, these session robots really have it down, especially with all the drum kits remixed I hardly have to do anything other than shop for kit pieces to sound right for the song, which is as fun as shopping at a great drum store with a blank check. I started writing a song this morning and it was ready to pitch to a music supervisor for sync by 5pm. He didn't need it but he said the production quality was great. Usually I send a track off to be mastered before even considering pitching it. I took a chance and it looks like I might be saving some bucks down the road.

I have had Band in a Box by pg music for more than 15 years. This is a nice addition but not the huge leap I was expecting. Band in a Box still does heaps more

Scaler work nicely, but ye I wish logic could detect the chords from any input plus stem splitter.

@@Hammerman48 I think it's because I tend to push the start to -1 bar. When aligning the start it seems to behave itself.

Why would you want region chords if they’re different from the chord track or the other session instrument? Seems like a prescription for cacophony.

    • @emaki24
      @emaki24 15 днів тому +3

I could see this being useful with slashed chords like G/C where you want the bass to continue to hold a certain pitch rather than follow the root note of the progression. In classical terms a "pedal point" to add drama and set up a cadence.

I find it’s kind of clunky, especially editing the chords
